[Q] Problem updating to lollipop 5.0 - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
As many of you know, lollipop has been released for verizon very recently. I just unrooted my phone fully by using tot method to go back to stock. When I try to install the second update for lollipop, when my phone reboots after installing, it is stuck at the lg logo screen. I have tried factory reset and have used tot method to go back to stock and retry installing lollipop 3 times now. Any help on why the update isn't working would be appreciated, thank you

So it is doing the update to the previous version before Lollipop? Then the Lollipop update itself fails? That is odd, which model is it?

Ive tried 4 times now. I have to keep using tot to go to 11a and update from there. I get the first part of 5.0 (28a) successfully, but the second part always ends up sitting at the lg logo screen. Last thing i know i could try is a factory reset before the second update.

When was the last time your phone was rooted, and were there any problems you had before you went back to stock? Because for me i tried to update and i was unrooted but still had twrp. My phone was stuck going into recovery mode and i had to input that command in the terminal so i could go into download mode.

I actually went ahead and started the second part without wiping. My dad updated his G2 to lollipop without any issues and he hasn't wiped the phone since it came out. I think it might be a heat issue so I let it sit in the freezer for a little before I started it the second part of the update. If this doesn't work I'm either gonna try and use the upgrade assistant or go to 27A and then root and flash the 39a firmware through twrp. If you try wiping in between updates let me know how it goes!

Just a theory, maybe the phone doesnt want to boot completely because it's too hot. Either way freezing it for a little didnt work so Im gonna have to tot back to 11a and restart and try the upgrade assistant

There are multiple (39a kdz with instructions how to attain root and a recovery, flashable stock 39a zip, and a debloated stock 39a ROM) ways to get on Lollipop but it will help you both to look in the Verizon section.

[Q] LG G2 Recovery bootloop?

Hi all... I have an at&t d800 that was running stock, rooted, and using Xposed. I was at work when I noticed that it was on the recovery TWRP screen. Weird I thought as I didn't restart it. I was having no issues with it prior. When I tried to reboot to system, it went right back to bootscreen. So I did a complete wipe and tried a system restore to a nandroid stock backup. reboot continues to go to the TWRP home screen... anyone have suggestions? I have a feeling its going to take a factory restore of some sort, but wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions beforehand. I can turn it off and on, but cannot get past the recovery home screen.
Thanks...

Yea that was the first thing I tried to do after the nandroid didn't work... still doesn't work. boots into recovery every time.
Didn't want to have to do the LG stock firmware but it looks like I'm going to have to... wish I knew what would've caused it to randomly do that. Wasn't playing with the phone or anything...

Same thing happened to me, I rebooted and then noticed that the at&t update went through automatically without permission, popup said phone will reboot in 30 seconds, on reboot I am stuck on TWRP, every reboot is back to recovery screen.
Looking for a way now to get some kinda ROM on phone, at&t has really pissed me off.

That's exactly what it is for me. Only they did the download while I was working. Bastards. I'm currently downloading the zip file from that link where we do the firmware reload and uproot and go back to stock... the host site is brutal... downloading at 115 kb/sec... once this is down I'll just stay unroot and get the update and move on for a bit. Wait until the kitkat alphas are in release mode.
I'll post with results when it's complete.
Man after reading Some of these horror stories I'm nervous about flashing twrp just got phone 2 days ago and I'm rooted with twrp ready to flash with flashify. I am brand new to this phone and Im not filmiliar with what some stuff you guys are talking about. I guess I should start with a lot if reading. Hope u guys fix your phone's..good luck.

Can not get into download mode either, I tried sideload adb and was able to flash stock rom and I tried CleanROM 2.0, recovery bootloop anyways, I have a copy of backup lg g2 recovery from flashify but I have no idea how to flash that.
Starting to understand the main disadvantage to this phone when compared to Samsung and Nexus. Nexus 5 looking real good right about now.
wow. if they bricked our phones this will be the last business I ever do with att or lg. This is inexcusable.

I can't get into download mode either.... This is surreal - Never had this issue before.. Am I without a phone right now? I can't do a damn thing here...
This seems malicious
I knew not to run the OTA - I chose to postpone or ignore the notice from AT&T -- it looks like they pushed it through without my OK and ended up bricking my phone.... can anyone verify a workaround to get into download mode??
I really hope there's a workaround here.... I can't belive that I would be the only one this happened to because I made no selection to run the OTA -- it pushed itself through without my authorization, so I gotta imagine it did the same to a lot of other people here.... Hoping for a response by morning.. Thanks!
Just to confirm some facts about this update....
Are you rooted?
Are you on a custom recovery. If so, twrp or cwm?

This has happened to me also. With my s4 .att pushed update in middle of night and it messed my phone up. Anyhow after two days or so of arguing with att they agreed on a eairly upgrade replacement and I got brand new lg g2 instead of a refurbished s4 .so now I am learning about this phone and I just took the new update. I rooted and was getting ready to flash twrp threw via flashify but I think now im gunna chill with just being rooted until I get a chance to do a lot of reading I guess before I go flashing anything..

Isn't there something that could be froze to prevent OTA's from coming through?
EDIT: Also, what is the Software version for said update?
EDIT2: Nevermind, found that it's D80010o.. i'm still D80010d.
EDIT3: For those stuck in the bootloop, have you tried this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451696
Apparently the bastards will only allow you to decline downloading it up to 3 times at 4 hours per decline, then it 'automagically' downloads and installs itself.
I saw that info on the AT&T website for the LG G2 update, they are such asses.
I used Titanium Backup to search for 'update' and then froze that. That is the easiest way to fix it for now, but, will cost you some money to buy titanium backup. Other apps can probably freeze stuff too tho.
There are other apps/processes running in the background, but, the one I froze was the update after I d/l'd it to my phone, but, chose not to run it. Later on I will disable the rest of the BS on this phone so it won't be AT&T'ified.
There is a 'Cleantool' somebody here on XDA wrote that can run via ADB and remove all the AT&T crap, but, I wanted to make a nandroid backup of the configured initial setup before I start carving the turkey so to speak.

I'm not sure if that will work or not, my knowledge of Linux and the phones is too limited to say. It was however originally intended for Verizon phones as I'm sure you realize.
Just wanted to point that out so that nobody tries it and potentially messes up their D800 to a state that can't be fixed later on when hopefully some kind soul cleans up after AT&T flaming bag of dog poop they just left on our doorstep.

I need help Fast if anyone can help lg g2

Ok so my Lg g2 for t mobile required an optional update and and i though it was for my data upgrade. Because it said my data returned today Jan 15/2014 and this was my first good smart phone so i thought i needed to update to receive my data back, so though i was skeptical and i ran the update anyway (oh and im rooted and have the lg g2 d801 version) and i tried to reboot to system and it went back to my TWRP recovery and i was like what the heck and i decided to wipe all and recover one of my old back ups and it did the same thing and went to my TWRP so i decided to format my data which cleared my restore point and now im stuck and my phone is useless if anyone can help thanks a lot in advance

Accidentally tried to update a rooted G2..

Hey guys, I screwed up bad. Im trading my G2 for an M8 tomorow, So I reverted back to my 'stock' restore on TWRP. Not really thinking about it I tried to update to 4.4 directly from the update centre. Now im stuck in a boot loop going into TWRP and it wont let me into the firmware. Can I still follow the thread that tells you how to go back to stock? Im in panic mode right now so im sorry if this has been asked before. Im just writing this so I can maybe get responses while I try and fix it myself.
thanks,
Brandon
EDIT: this back to stock thread is very intimidating. If someone could tell me an easier way (if there is one of course) to get back to stock it'd be appreciated.

100% wiped as in you wiped the internal storage as well.
Try to adb sideload a rom to atleast get it to boot something? You'll still have to go back to stock tho..
And if someone sends you a stock rom, that won't help you I wouldn't think. You'd still have twrp if you were to flash that. I'm assuming you want it back to 100% stock, right?

Well, it's too bad the return to stock scares you. I'm not too sure how it works for your variant, but it was pretty straight forward to do on my D800. If you could return it to stock, then update, you could use towelroot to re-root (takes like 10 secs).
Aside from all that, i'm not too sure what else you could do really.

Ok bro, first thing you need is the LG Drivers which you can get here:
http://www.mediafire.com/download/g3...Ver_3.11.3.exe
Next you need the LG Flash Tool which you can get here:
http://www.mediafire.com/download/fw..._Tool_2014.zip
Then you need the stock rom which you can get from the sources you found or you can even just google it. Everything is pretty self explanatory. Make sure you're tablet is in d/l mode. If you have any more questions just ask. Good luck!!!

XXX01, did this work for you? I'd like to be prepared if I come across a problem like this. Also, has anyone had any luck flashing *any* custom rom on a 430? I see Cyanogen has release for 400 and 410, and I know this is a recent release, so I'm conflicted by how new the device is compared to how similar it might be to those others.

I would benefit from this as well. I would like to revert my G Pad F7.0 back to full stock but I can't. When I do a factory restore, it is still missing web browser and other apps that I had removed.

Could you push those apps through ADB install? Do you have the apk files for those? If you want to PM me a list of those apps I can try to get you the APKs off mine and you can try that. Meanwhile, I'm working on pulling my rom for you guys.

I still can not find a way to flash this thing back to stock either. I am unable to find the stock rom anywhere. Not sure what to do.
We are having an error that says fastboot init( ), under that is loading keystore failed status 5 and then usb init ept @ 0x8f20700 and underneath that it says udc_start( ). It will not boot past this screen.

Did you get your stock ROM yet. I can pull it off one of mine if you still need it., I got two of them from Sprint just to save the activation fees on 3 other phones. I need to root them because they are way to slow. The hardware is way too small. Anyways, as soon as I figure out how to root them I can do a nan droid off the one I have never used so I won't even have to factory reset first. If you give me the steps you did to root yours it will save me time. How did you brick yours?

I need to know what recovery you used then you can flash it instead of having to use your PC.

Extracting a nan droid is easy enough. It is what you should have done as soon as you installed a recovery. t's just a back up. I need to use the same recovery you installed so it works on yours. After I back it up I will send you a link. You put it on your card and then restore from your recovery. It is key to always back up your firmware before you modify anything. If I make a back with the device that I haven't used it will be stock for you. I've never rooted a LG so I'm still looking for the method. I can compress it to a TAR if you want to flash it odin (or whatever is used for LG) but it is easiest just to install it as a restore. You can still power your device on to the recovery can't you?
I didnt even get to the recovery part I rooted and try to reboot after installing supers u from King root and been looping ever since

Getting it out of the boot loop is usefully not all that difficult. Did you try wiping the Dalvik and the cache? That will probably do it. If not what you need is the boot or kernel. Find the stock or the custom kernel and install it then wipe dalvik and cache.
I think i need the boot.img or kernal and I can't find either anywhere I've looked and I've tried factory reset and nothing I have the stock recovery so j can't wipe dalvik

A factory reset will wipe the dalvik. I will see what I can find tomorrow. When I get mine rooted you can use the boot image from my back up if I can't find one elsewhere. It's best to install a custom recovery. If your wanting the option to return to stock a good app is flashily. You can back up the boot loader and the kernel before you install a recovery and then use it to flash it back when you want to. It will even back it up to drop box so it doesn't get lost.
What method did you use to root?
I used king root and I'm no rookie to the rooting Android thing I've been doin it for years I just can't find a recovery to flash or anything other then King root to root it and if i could get it to go past the splash screen I'd be able to fix it but I can't get it passed there unless I find those files

Yes on the latest twrp. Idk what the issue is.
Would it be because I'm on 7.0? Idk if that's a thing but I would assume it wouldn't be the case.

Are you using the one for your device from here?
There are 2 variants of the SM-G928R4

Yes I'm sure I'm using the right one for my device. I have never had this issue before.
Went back to twrp 3.0.2.0 and it's fine, I guess it was just the latest release that was the issue.
