Hey Guys!
Tasker is really epic, we all know that dont we?
I discovered something epic, and made a tutorial out of it for you all to give it a shot, it works on any android device [It's 2015, get a decent device] it's not restricted to the One.
Why can this be usefull?
Well my friend at The Techolic featured the video on his website, and and mentioned every reason why this is epic!
So do check the article out too!
http://bit.ly/TheTecholic-BlogPost
So what is the tutorial about?
It's simple, suppose you're cycling (using my own example), headphones always on, due to that i miss important notifications, even if i notice that something has come, i have to stop to read the notification, but that irritates me, or moreover takes my average speed , So i used Tasker and Autonotification to make a profile which would work with headphones connected/or not (it's upto you), the profile will speak up all notifications, specially whats app's or texts, for eg. it would say, "New Message from (Contact Name). (Message).
This also works for all of us lazy asses out there, Feeling Lazy to read? or even extend your hand to the table next to you? damn this would do the job for you, speak up the notifications
Let me know how is it, and if you find it usefull, hit on the Thanks meter
So you made this video? You're Android Kingdom?

Excellent.
For those of us hard of hearing, would you post up the Tasker config file for this and or write up the How To?
Nothing new that is not on Youtube and the multitude of 101 Tasker howto videos. Oh and please don't bump you own posts.... And BTW you don't need anything else than Tasker to do this. You want ot learn more about tasker programming ? Look for
hollywoodfrodo's videos i found it to be one of the best.

How to record courses... via a bluetooth mic on the teacher's desktop.
And then transform the recording in text. With the possibility to turn on/off the mic when he's talking about his wife and how he banged her the night before...
an app which records and is a note taker at the same time, with you being allowed to tag certain areas of the recording (lecture) with appended notes and stuff.
Btw, if you do make it, pm me the link !

Microsoft word 2008 does it...(the MAC version).
What about something that automatically switches your phone to silent mode when you're in a lecture? You could base that off your calendar to know when your lectures are. (Note: I think this kind of app has been done before, but it should be challenging enough to be an interesting assignment.)

I believe Tasker does this

Hello, I am a .NET Web Developer that has become enthralled with the android operating system. I had an idea the other night while me and a friend of mine were discussing his adulterous spouse.
The app would activate the mic and begin streaming audio to a remote server (she's not tech savvy, so as long as it's not obvious she won't notice). He could listen to what was happening in real time, with a slight time lag, and activate/deactivate from the same remote server by having the app check a variable on the remote server that he could change for whether or not it's recording at given point in time.
Would this require root? Is it even possible? I don't see why not.

Once a service is running in the background, it can check whatever internet site it wants whenever it wants. No need for rooting the phone. You just need to install the app.
And you might as well suck up GPS data while you're at it... though some folks (Evo!) disable GPS to prolong their battery life. There's always "course location" information available.
As long as we're being horrifically intrusive, you might as well log incoming and outgoing phone calls, and make recordings of selected numbers. Heck you could record the first 10 seconds or so of all calls, and the full conversation of specific numbers you flag.
:/
Then all you need to do is install this beast... and give it some innocuous/useful name so if she ever checks the service list she won't kill it.
PS: Services don't show up on the app list.
PPS: I'm starting to feel dirty just typing this stuff. This sort of app would be so easy to abuse. Law enforcement wet dream. Stalker wet dream too. Yow!
Of course lets not forget text and mms forwarding or intercepting. Some similar products out the allow remote control over the phone such as turning on the gps, bluetooth, speaker, and camera. Even if the program did show up in a process or service list on the phone - given the proper name no one would end it in fear the it's an important system process or something similar. (Well that excludes us on XDA )
Oh my, this is nasty... Might you ever release it.. Let me know.

Hahaha. Sounds like yrref is up to something devious.
There are already several similar spy apps out there... there's a thread in the evo forum about some guy that can't get one off his phone, psycho girlfriend issues.
Not. Cool.
Just updated fine for me on Myn's.
The update includes:
Groups - support for those new 'small' groups
Places
Improved notifications - view the comments without leaving the app. This is huge - it actually seems to work.
Overall, the app seems to work much faster and be snappier over 3G.
Really wish I used facebook.. So over it now, but I bet our phones do a great job with it..
cool, thanks for thanks for the update.
Yeah the app is near perfect for me and just as enjoyable to use as the iPhone app.
Places works great, just used it, actually..
Just needs push notifications and chat.. Though I simply set facebook to send notifications to my push gmail account and BeejiveIM works great with Facebook chat.
It's better but still "meh".
This, and cards, are the only place where I like Webos better. In facebook for webos...
You actually get notifications in the notification area when you have new notifications on Facebook.
Why can't we have that?
I'd also like the ability to delete posts and comments and the ability to "like" comments.
Yeah...why they can enable push notifications is beyond me. Its on the iOS, webos, and blackberry apps...android really gets left out.
I also wish they'd improve the update status menu/area. The 1.5 line thing that they have now is very hard and doesn't allow for a very long update...their mobile website is better.
Thanks for the update info!
It's an improvement for sure.

Also, I should be able to like comments like I can on the site and delete my own comments.
Don't know why you can't via any facebook app on any platform.

Whenever receiving an error of any kind, after updating any app of any kind, you should clear any data/cache that is associated with the app.
If that doesn't work, then take the step of uninstalling and then reinstalling.
That usually fixes problems after updates.

You can delete your own posts on the app I just did it now to make sure I wasn't just imagining it. Just hold down on your post and it gives u an option to comment or like, or remove post. I found it in the last update. Don't know if its been around longer than that...

This was in the old app as well. Doesn't look like it's changed. You can only remove posts that you've done from the app, which is nice, but sucks that you can't do ones from your laptop, ect.

Actually, I just tried and you CAN remove comments ON YOUR OWN POSTS but not comments you make on others posts.
You also CANNOT like comments.
You CANNOT delete wall posts though.
I think the next added feature should be orientation options for the main app screen. For some reason you can view comments, pictures, and just about everything else in landscape, just not the main screen.
Otherwise loving that I don't have to open the browser when I want to read a comment
This is a short movie I made demonstrating the intelligent features of the Samsung Galaxy S3 in a possible real life scenario!
S Voice, Smart stay, Smart alert, Direct call and Social tag, all packed in a short movie (7:31")
A boy and a girl communicate to set a date! What's the funny/sexy part? hint: strawberry-banana
Special thanks to Litsa for being in this video with me!
I named my film "Strawberry-Banana" some people get it, some don't!
Will you?
Did you?
Not bad. I actually liked it. But it shows some flaws of smart stay. It recognises that you look at it but still screen wents off.
PS: I didn't get the one with the banana or maybe I did get it if I'm right. But that would be bad too.

Nicely done, you seem to have some experience in making movies.
Also, I learned a bit more about S Voice and how to use it.
Kinda sad, I kept wondering whether the phone display needs to be turned on to speak to S Voice, the video confirms this. At least now I know.
Thanks guys!
Askannon12, if you mean @ 4:00 it is not a flaw of smart stay. The "eye" pops out to check! It checks that there is no one looking so it turns off the screen!
Landorin the phone display needs to be turned on to speak to S Voice, otherwise it would consume a lot of battery because it would be in "listening mode" all the time!
I tried the camera one where you say "cheese" and it takes a picture automatically but it won't. Is there a setting for it that I need to change/activate?

Yes! Settings->Language and input. There you must activate "Voice cmd for apps" and in this option everything must be checked.
You can also do many thing with voice commands as you will see. As answer voice calls, play, pause music and more.
And the most important thing is that you can do all of these (voice commands) WITHOUT an internet connection!

love this feature, I normally shout 'action' instead of 'cheese' though.
The best thing about this feature is you can switch it to the self portrait cam and give it to someone.
omg!

nice vid.
---------- Post added at 03:23 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:13 PM ----------
there are voice commands that don't need svoice to be enabled just enable voice commands and check all options.
few examples are:
when using camera just say "shoot" to take a shot.
when someone is calling your phone, say "answer" to answer and "reject" to reject the call.
from that vid, i learned stop and snooze for alarm. in turn i'm reminded of another not so well known new feature and it's smart alarm.
the description says, sound will start quietly a few minutes early and slowly increase in volume. so it basically is like the increasing ringtone.
lols and i do get what strawberry-banana meant, hehe it's because the op asked the girl "that" question. hehehehe
me and my gf don't want to use casings.
btw, this vid is better than some of samsung's and that recent u.s. company's vids.
because some of their vids are easy to understand, but the rest can only be understood by only those who already know that certain feature.
this one is pretty clear and people can relate to since what they're doing is pretty much what people would do in their normal lives.
thanks.
Nicely done, though i have freezed s-voice.
If you liked this video maybe you'll like my previous (smaller) video which demonstrates the "smart stay" feature of the Galaxy S3 with examples that has happen to all of us! don't miss the bloopers video link at the end!
@radeonxt you sure got it! some people stay in the "ice-cream" scenario

I'm having this issue with multitasking and sound where eg. if i open xbox music and then go back to my desktop the music volume reduces. Another example would be where i am chatting with a friend on skype(metroapp), i can't put it in the background and do other things because the sound reduces so much that i can't hear it.
I tried going to sounds in control panel and make it do nothing when there is communication activity but it doesn't help.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Well, e.mote's "suggestion" boiled down to either "I didn't read your post" or "I'm going to imply that you're an idiot for even asking this" (instead of putting in an edit saying something like "EDIT: sorry, mis-read OP, please ignore"; seriously, how else would you read that initial response post-edit?) depending on whether you read the pre-edit version or not. I wouldn't have found that very useful either. Since he further went on to be sufficiently thin-skinned to be unable to take mild sarcasm in response to (intentionally or otherwise) coming across as an insulting prick... seems unlikely he was in a helpful mood anyhow.
Yo, e.mote, you've been very helpful here sometimes, but don't be a prick, man! BTW, your avatar doesn't do you any favors in the "no really, I'm not a sarcastic troll" department, even if your Thanks meter does.
To the OP: do you have different Communication and Default output devices defined, by chance? Does this problem still happen when using headphones? If you switch the Sound->Communication option to "Mute all other sounds" does it have any effect (I know you tried setting it to Do Nothing)? I've not heard of this problem before. Another thing to try: open the Volume Mixer (on the desktop, right-click the Volume icon in the tray and select Volume Mixer, or left-click it and then click Mixer) and see if your background Metro apps have a reduced volume there for some reason.
@GoodDay
Your name-calling isn't appreciated, nor is putdown of my avatar. It is below you, and my opinion of you is lessened. My future responses to present company may be less graceful.
Words can be interpreted in a variety of ways, and I try to give people the benefit of the doubt. However, I don't believe snark is the attitude to take when one is trying to get help. As you well realize from your own tart-tongued responses to some, there is no obligation here to answer questions or provide tech support.

@goldflame09
The first step to troubleshooting is to hit Google search. I'd start with
http://google.com/search?q="windows+8"+low+sound+volume+on+multitask
I didn't see any immediate relevant hit, which usually mean that it's not a systemic problem, and more of one particular to your setup. You mentioned that it happens in Skype, and only when headphones are involved. Then, expand your search out to enclose either or both of those terms.
You may also want to just search on "windows 8" skype low audio|volume to see if there are hits.
If you haven't already, I'd also suggest getting familiar with Google search syntax. 90% of all questions here, as long as they aren't specific to the particular setup, have already been asked elsewhere, and some will already have solutions.

I've had this exact problem. Here's the solution:
Go to the desktop and right click the Windows volume icon in the task bar and click on "Playback Devices", then in the "Sound" panel that pops up (and under the playback tab), right click your Speakers and click on "properties" then go to the "Advanced" tab, and deselect the "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" check-box.
If you notice that Skype has been lowering the volume on other applications when it's open, then go to the "Communications" tab of the same Sound panel and select "Do nothing".
While this helped me a lot, I discovered some new information on the subject from the MSDN blog on sound tagging and priority in Metro apps here:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/windowsappd...edia-to-make-your-app-shine-in-windows-8.aspx
Hope this helps.
Thank you for these responses. I will look into it.
As for you people who keep criticizing e.mote's comments. Stop it or I will have mods close this thread because apparently you can't stop b****ing like little kids do.

I should have kept my criticism private, and for that I apologize. Nonetheless, I stand by thekiller99 (the original parent of the thread) - if a comment is made in error, then edited, it should be marked as such. If you feel that's out of line, you and every other member have the right to notify the moderators, but - to adapt your own earlier response - you're not likely to get much help from people if you shut down the threads where you're asking for help. This is the Internet; there will be misunderstandings and mistakes. Accept that they will happen, try to avoid situations that could cause them, and apologize if you cause one anyhow. That's all any of us can do.
Please let us know what you discover. It sounds like the issue occurs in a few different forms. It may also help to mention exactly what hardware each person is using, in case there's a common thread that can be used to find the root of the problem.
I accept your apology and offer my own for being rash.
I will let you know what I come up with though.
