Case Color: White vs black Poll

Rogers (in Canada) is coming up with this phone this week. Who is picking up which color? I can't decide, lets see which is the most popular one

Black, of course. The white one doesn't have a rubberized panel at the back. My tip is for you to try both of them out before you buy one.

the white one has the same back panel as the black. slightly sparkly pearl white kind of colour with the same texture as the black.

sign me up for the WHITE one, whenever I can get it with ATT 3G for $650 or less!!!!

What? It doesn't have the same back panel in Sweden. Edit: The white one has a glossy back panel while the black one has a rubberized back panel and isn't glossy at all.

the white one i saw in the UK orange store had a matte white back cover....

hmm looking at pictures of the white one in the phonearena review it certainly seems glossy. the one i saw might have been different cos it was a dummy unit

Strange... The ones I've tested has a glossy back cover.

I'll never wear a white suit, but I love my white one .. *lol*
In Germany they have glossy backs.
But it would be easy to change it, if it becomes scrached or arubberized would become available.

I have a white X10 and a friend of mine has a black one, I really love the white version and although you may think the white one is very hard to keep clean the black one is actually the fingerprint magnet. The white one just keeps looking clean . The backpanel of the black one is indeed rubberized and the white one has a glossy backpanel (at least here in the Netherlands):

I can confirm that my white one from orange has a glossy plastic back cover. It is not rubberised and doesn't offer as much grip in the hand.
However it still feels good in the hand. It also came completely free of any branding. No logos on the device no operator start-up screens or up apps, just the APNS.

My Missus reckons that the white ones are targetted at Girls... (I thought it looked good in white 'til she said that!!)

at first i didnt like the white one but its grown on me. However the ALS is a bit ugly, black dot on top of the screen. Plus even though it looked nice, i thought the black one looked more professional (i wear suits a lot). Oh well, no regrets. Love the phone!

Im glad I didnt have to make that choice, in the UK the only network to have the white one is Orange, and I dont get a signal at home with them, so black it was...

yea its a real pity they dint add an oleophobic coating to the screen. any of you guys know of a screen protector that has said coating?
From the pictures i thought the X10 looked really ugly. The Nexus One, Milestone, and Desire looked so sleek in pictures. But after seeing the X10 in real life i changed my mind about the looks. Photos dont seem to do it justice.I thought the angles and angled surfaces look bulky and clunky in the pictures, but when u have it in your hand its great!

I bought the black one because thinking of long term the white one in my opinion will discolor over time; so you may get a "off" white color in 10 - 12 months time.
However, I do like the white one because I don't think there many white phone around which would make this phone unique.

I almost think it's a gimick...half white? come on...
Make it all white or go home. You won't tell the difference when using it as you will see the front...

I played with one at Best Buy. I'm not sold, like, at all. half white looks kinda dumb, and then the back is glossy, like, REALLY glossy and just doesn't feel good at all, the matte feel of the black is so much better. if they went ALL white, with a matte white back, I might have been sold on it. but this just looks (because it is) half-assed

It looks like an albino. And I'll be honest; albinos kind of freak me out. If they had made the kickstand, "HTC", and camera ring black instead of red, it would look MUCH better. Panda phone instead of AlbinoPhone.

i love my white EVO. everybody that has used it said they like it as well. the white since its glossy i thought would make it seem cheaper, but in person the white really is distinguished and looks great. the white offsets the sillouette as to perceive the phone as being thin.
you really would have to hold one yourself to make a solid judgement. i originally was like forget white, it looks cheaper than the black one, but when i held it i perfered the white one in the end.

and i think it looks good with a slight modification

I like that it has a black front.

i think its personal preference, got it for my gf last week cuz she preferred it over the black one.
One downside that i've found out so far is dirt accumulates and shows around the edges of the zagg invsishield battery cover protector.
I've applied zagg invsishield covers to about 5 devices and never noticed this because they were all black. Also the white shows little fibers that were caught under from the "lint-free" cloth that came with the zagg.
I'm gonna apply the carbon fiber to her back case next week but the white carbon fiber. should look good.
I didn't watch the unboxing attached but i saw one where the unboxer put the black battery cover on the white evo and looked cool, kinda like an oreo haha.

It looks ugly. Now it has three different colors red, black , and white they messed up this phone.

i wish they would have left the htc logo free but looks good!

The people in China making that panel messed up and colored them white, now htc is "marketing" them. Don't know if this is true, but that is my story and i'm sticking to it.

What hardware version is it and does it have the screen separation issue?

Total gimmick. Seriously, the majority of the time your looking at the phone, guess what color your going to see? I guess htc has a 1/2up on apple for bringing out the first "white" phone between the evo and iphone 4....i guess that's what matters most.

I prefer the white for one simple reason: it stands out. Everyone has a black phone, they are almost indistinguishable, but the white one will make people ask what phone it is because its obviously not an iPhone. Then I can stand on my soapbox and spout the word of Android.
I do agree that they did a half-assed job, though.

Black because I think it looks slightly slicker. The white is lovely too.

white because black is too overplayed.

I like the white one. That being said i have the black one.

I went with black. I had the white iPhone and the white for the x10 looks cheap and girlish

I got the black one sure to the white looking overly 'LOOK AT ME DAMNIT'.. I would have liked to see a silver model, though.

i have a white one because my last couple of phones were black so i wanted a change. id have preferred metalic or brushed metal. would have been a super cool look, plus made it feel weighty and expensive. i dont like cheap feeling plastic phones, both of which the black and white x10 have. ah well.

In the UK when I bought mine only one carrier had the white as an exclusive and as I was getting as a steal on upgrade (oh yes we can do it 'free' for £35.00 a month... thats nice bye bye, hang on a minute madam we can sell you one for £170 and charge you £10 a month) I was happy to receive the Black.
Also I was a bit worried that the white would look like you were somehow imitating an Iphone and I don't wish to pay homage to old Jobsy in any shape way or form!
The brushed metal sounds cool tho, maybe someone will come up with some replacement battery covers along those lines.

But seriously though, to me piano black has always been the favourite. It just suits technology better imo, white just makes it look like a kitchen appliance.
And the white, iirc, doesn't have the non-slip battery grip, correct?

Correct, the white is "piano" white on the back as well. That being said, I have the white one. It's a nice change as 4 people in my friendsgroup have the black one. Also the white seems to be less a fingerprintmagnet..

Got the black one. Since most of my tech "toys" are black/silver. Except the Wii and my netbook.

Thanks for the confirmation.
And I'm not saying that the white one looks bad or anything, it just doesn't have that hifi feel to it and for hitech gear that's a cardinal sin.

Once you go black, you never go back.
Black or Silver has, and will always be my preferred colour for my phones, and think the white phones are more girly imo.

Black,as it just looks sleeker and im not a fan of white devices, the white does look good but just not for me.

The hot pink Suzuki Vitara I owned a couple years back was girly, a white phone is no big deal.
Speaking of colours, I would've loved to have an X10 in dark purple or dark scarlet red. Anyone else miss any colour options?

Any one that owns a white or black model can you give me some insight. Which one looks better overall? More prone to scratches? stuff like that.
The white one also seems more special for some reason but I absolutely hate how the frame around the screen is white, it looks like it doesn't match even the new white iphone4 is like that I wish it was more like the 3gs how the front was black.

I choose the white model, 2 main reasons, i believe that the white is more scratch proof (or at least less noticeable) and it will be probably a little more exclusive.

I had previously preordered the black one and when I went to the roadshow to collect it I saw the white version on display and found that it looks nicer.
Since I can't change the preordered colour there and then I'm using the black version now but if I had a chance to choose again I'll definitely take the white one.
The black version looks like any other black coloured phones but the white version gives me a feeling of higher quality and more premium looking. I think it's because the white coating is really very nicely done.
Though like all other white gadgets you'll have to be more careful in handling it as any scratches etc will be more obvious on the white surface.

If they had made the white model purely white (including screen borders), I might have considered it. I always find the contrast with the screen border vs the rest of the phone to be a bit strange.

seriously, white will make your fron screen look more outstanding... i brought white and i very happy with it...

I didn't even want white but that's what the seller I found had at the time so I just bought it anyway. I actually like it a lot now. And if you get sick of it, just slap a black hard case on it and you won't see it

I never buy white computer gadgets.
Old white PC's looked rubbish. (well, whitish)
White Xbox looked rubbish.
White iphone will look rubbish.
White Xperia Play looks rubbish.
Heck, white cars even look rubbish.
Just my opinion of course

White does look very nice though.
I do wish they used rubber coating on the back plate though, stupid SE. If any phone needed to have a non slip surface it's this one.
I hope a 3rd party releases rubbery back plates.

I spoke to Nergi. They took some pics of a unit they had. The black on the front is there, not white. So the glass around the screen is black. This must have been a mock-up shot of the white.

is there a reason why verizon isn't getting the white version of the phone? I was planning to get that, but there's only black.

Did they say for sure that they would not ge getting the white one? At first, I thought that the white was exclusive to O2 but you can now get an unlocked one with the USA AT&T 3G 850/1900 bands. Probably the Canadian version. Maybe Verizon will offer later down the road.

Trick is the Blue is so dark that it looks like Black(the battery cover)!
Good Luck finding the White one. I gave up and got the "Blue" one and I could not be more happy. I like white devices...but I did not want to wait.

Blue and if you want white, get a white case.
Plus the prices for white are ridiculous.

Appears bigger than the blue ones. White is a classic clean look.
Lots of envy look from blue note users who wished they had waited.

I like white gadgets but the white bezel around deep black amoled screen doesn't really work for me. So I went for the hybrid solution: got the black (dark blue) Note and bought the white battery door separately.
We'll see how it looks, since I haven't received the white door yet. Hopefully, I'll get a look that's close to my old white iphone 3g.

I had a choice between the black/blue and the white and went for the white. It's clean, classy and looks great set up by the SuperAMOLED's vibrancy. I have posted some photos of my Note in the other White Note thread here on XDA.

In fact, I bought the white first but returned it after a few days. Now I got the black (or midnight blue) one, and I think this looks cooler than white..reasons:
1. The back cover of the white version is just plain, and the Samsung logo is boringly flat and non-reflective. In the dark version the back cover is beautifully textured, while the logo is not flat and is reflective.
2. The metallic ring around the white version is just simply metal. I like the gun metal color in the dark one.
The above two reasons make the dark version seems more subtle than the flashy white version.
3. Dusts are easily accumulated inside the gap between the glass and the metallic edge. This will be more obvious in the white version than the dark one.

I vote white (well since I have one), it looks pretty amazing. The black is too boring imho

The screen's brightness overwhelmed the piddly camera sensor on my Blackberry Torch.

The white's back cover is boring to me.
At my place here, the white is as abundantly available as the black. But mostly are the girls who buy them.

Wonder if the white's colour will turn yellowish over time? It does happen to some white plastic products that I own, though admittedly these are not gadgets. I've heard about white iphone turning yellowish due to heating, or something to that effect.
I had some agnoising moments as well and finally went with the black. A white would mean it can get dirtier more easily, may even turn yellow (though not proven), and I may even have problems finding accessories that match. Besides, as someone pointed out in another thread, black is more immersive when you're viewing videos, reading ebooks, etc.
Oh well, those are thoughts I used to console myself and to stop the paralysis by analysis process.

Anyway online sells the battery door... multicilour...

Edit: never kind I found some on ebay...buying a white one now....
Plus a extra to try and sand down the inside just a tad to try and get my NFC Bank Of America Credit card to fit under there.....
