Battery drain on lollipop HELP 170% android OS - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there
I've had Lollipop on my S5 for a while now official over the air update, no roms being used. However about a week ago samsung released a new over the air smaller update to "improve performance" and some other stuff but now my S5's battery drains soo fast even when not doing anything, android OS is using 171% of battery usage according to the settings (see photo),
It kind of makes me want to switch back to iPhone...
Build number: LRX21T.G900FXXU1P0BK
All help welcome
thanks

That's your issue. The developer's ROMs have already fixed a bunch of the issues. You can either root and install a custom ROM for your model, go back to 4.4.4 or go to the iPhone, which would be my last resort.
I'm running an international ROM on my Verizon S5 with great battery, a lot less bloat and faster speeds.

[Q] Update to Kitkat or not?

I need to update to Kitkat cause there are too many apps and options I can't get
But I'm afraid of Kitakat problems many people have mentioned like battery drain and other issues
So I need an assurance that the problems are fixed by the firmware that LG has released like D80220C or so
Can anybody help??
And another question about LG PC SUITE:
Does it provide the phone with the most recent update directly without updating to 20a then 20b then 20c and so on??
And If yes does that mean I can wait and use it to update my phone from JellyBean to Lollipop directly??
My phone started with 4.4.2 20E firmware so I cant comment on performance compared to 4.3.
I will say however, that 20E was good and 20H is even better. Coming from the Nexus 5 running 4.4.4, I suprised what a good job LG have done with Kit Kat. :victory:
Why not make sure you have the 4.3 image as a backup before you update to KK

I've already made a backup, but I'm hesitating to update because I've heard that the phone is experiencing a horrible battery life on Kitkat
What about your phone on Kitkat:How much does your battery last from 100% to 0??How much screen on time does you get???

The updates from your specific carrier may end at 20C but I am using LG stock image which has gone onto 20H. Battery life on 20H is very good indeed. My best is 103H of standby with 2.5 hours of SOT, (as I'm a light user.)

Stopping at 20C may have something to do with your carrier and country. My phone was on Vodaphone in the UK and came with 20E. I de-branded my phone by installing the LG 20H firmware direct from LG. :victory: (this is differnent to unlocking your phone!)
I also made sure I had the original Vodaphone 20E firmware before I flashed the LG firmware to let me go back should I require. 20H is so good that I dont need to.

Yes,It's the country I got the phone from supports it until only 20C
I just want to update it to a stable version in Kitkat and doesn't matter for me If It's the latest update or not
The problem is that I'm impressed with the phone's battery life and I would lose my mind If the update to Kitkat makes it worse

I suggest you do your homework and learn how to flash the various stock roms with the LG flash tool. (I'm not talking about rooting etc here!)
Once you've found the current rom you are using, (to save as a backup incase anything goes wrong,) you can then flash 20C or 20H to see if you are happy with the battery life. Just remember to judge over 3 or 4 cycles as the 1st is always excellent, but the 2nd is always rubbish, (In my experience.)
As you have your backup, you can always go back if you arent happy.

Yes, Immersive mode in apps like Kindle & MX player work fine. Not sure if there is a global setting to toggle this though.

I will TRY to resist the TEMPTATION to NOT install the lollipop directly when it gets available, maybe wait 2 weeks for other people to tell us if it is better or worse.. especially if it it is Android 5.0 and not 5.1...with said it will be very hard to resist to not install it directly.
Maybe that is for mediapad x2, and new p8 support, those have lollipop. So I dont think we will get update soon.

Let's just hope for the best. They may release the update after mediapad x2 and p8 is out. Its most likely be based on their updated versoon of android. And we may get a better one because they will testers for our update.
What I would like on the update is the tap to wake up function. I don't like using the flip cover. I like cases or bumpers and its easier if you can just tap to wake up.
Guys you really think u will be happy with 5.0 ???
BET with me once it will be avail. and u install it u'll be rolling back !
Did u been considering that u MIGHT NOT be able to root phone ? OR install custom recovery ?? You didn't right ? heh .. yeah
Well .. u might be surprised I just plaing with LG G3 which I had installed 5.0 and 1. There was no possible to root G3 ! only now recently released root program .. so so it is rooted
BUT
Not possible to install custom recovery (only in very difficult long way)
Xposed not working YET only by flashing another dificulty way ..
So no support at all .. devs. keeping slowly up .. but ..
Do u think somebody gonna bother to get all this working on huawei phones ?
Let's see.
But remember once again .. u will be rooling back sam eas I reverted G3 back to kitkat .. no lag at all..
For G3 all it needs is to downgrade to kitkat, instal custom recovery, than flash cm12 lolipop, all of this take max 25 min, not complicated at all.
Maby updating to lollipop will not relock bootloader, so flashing custom recovery will take 2 minutes, and flashing super su trought cwm also take one minute, so we can have lollipop and root very easy. I am waiting for lollipo because CM 12 rom, not for update with emui 3.0 on the top because everything will be the same as now.

You see? u said it by your self DOWNGRADING to kitkat so? whats the point getting lolipop..
And I said that I already downgraded.. to kitkat... this morning..
xposed works on 100% LG G3 tweaksBox , TWRP latest works 100%
NOTHING properly works on 5.0 ...
No mate there is no any unlocking or relocking bootloader.. like in huawei phones... and no there is no any CWM ONLY TWRP is made for G3...
Yeah there MIGHT be CM based on lolipop .. but again with so many buuugs not workings.. so best to stay on 4.4.2 for now..
And u said all be same no point ..
Don't understand what some ppl thinks when they see higher number 5.0 . or lolipop it it is gonna be better... aahh well
From Lolipop i expect only better battery optimization, nothing more.

Seeing that the February 2015 update for the gold version is no longer available for download form the huawei website (italy) maybe we'll get lucky and get lollipop finally.....at least I'm hoping so because I don't care if it can't be rooted etc etc....

Won't happen, TBH.
Not much chance the first LP release will be smooth, you would be best hoping huawei used their brain & made effort on bugfix & improvements on JB & move on to LP once revisions/improvements been done by google team to LP.
I think the biggest disspointment will be a lot of functions that we associate with Lollipop will not be included...
Will we get new multi tasking view ? Probably not.
https://cdn3.pcadvisor.co.uk/cmsdata/reviews/3585263/Android-lollipop-review-multitasking_thumb.jpg
Will we get Lollipop notifications view ? probably not
http://offoindia.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Lollypop-3.jpg
I think depressingly enough the biggest disappointment will be that it will be impossible to see the difference between current kitkat (that looks little bit like Lollipop already) and the new lollipop release, I think they will mainly try to make it look exactly like the old kitkat. I say this because of the latest Huawei tablet with lollipop, we must expect something similar...
What I hope though is improvements under the hood... Better performance which means better adjusted cpu cores how they throttles up and down..
right now there is microlag a lot...
I hope even faster and more smooth animations (if the GPU can handle it). Right now I have fastest animation setting .5x in developer options, but the problem is with the fastest setting it does not run as smooth as one would wish, but as it is now I prefer the fastness with some micro stutter to painfully slow animations which make me unproductive.
Batterylife I hope it can be improved a little bit even though. The androi system still use more then it should so I think there is potential..but still it is the modem that drains most of the battery...and software improvements can't make much of that .

No idea if it's the standard 5.1.1 or the updated one that fixes the memory and battery leaks.

That's BOGB, so the latest 5.1.1.
Too early to say for sure if this fixes all my issues with my S6E but, after 24 hours running it, it does seem better than any of the other S6E builds I've used.

That's cool. It's difficult for me to say as I never got the update to the first 5.1.1 and was stuck on 5.0.2 and only yesterday did i get the update to 5.1.1
But so far battery life seems to be on par with 5.0.2 and I do notice that unlocking the lock screen and going into the home screen seems a tad faster.
is it worth to loose root? cos i'm still on 5.02 with Root Exploit [email protected] and i use Titanium Backup a lot
Battery seems to be better on mine since the update

New Update N910VVRU2BPA1

I've been chatting with Samsung Support through Twitter about Kies not taking my serial # for my Note 4. They asked for my serial # and my imei #, so I gave it to them and they asked what version i was on and told them BOK3, they wrote back saying there is a newer version, so I asked which one is it. So here is a screenshot.
OTA Update provided by @hsbadr thanks to @doinsvelt
Official Firmware & OTA Update from N910VVRU2BOG5 to N910VVRU2BPA1: http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...mware-firmware-kernel-modem-recovery-t2942937
Safe Upgrade N910VVRU2BPA1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=65278655
Update: if your battery takes a dump with the OTA, it is recommend that you do a repair via the Verizon assistant or via Kies. But if you are on a safe upgrade version then this will take you out of safe upgrade and keep you on BOG5 incremented bootloader.
Maybe a new Samsung version, but maybe not a Verizon version?

Here are the screenshots.
They responded back that it is 5.1.1 with security patches
So Samsung says there is another version they have out. But has Verizon released it yet? The manufacturer releases versions to the carriers who then release it to the phone owners after they do their "branding". Case in point, Samsung released 6.0.1 for the Note 4, but we don't have it yet. So

Hopefully it fixes my battery life problem, after the 5.1.1 update my battery life is TERRIBLE. It is the worse it has ever been and that's with trying to different factory OEM batteries.......The Note 4 really was a disappointment for a phone with such awesome hardware...
If anybody able to pull OTA and link it, I would put in the OP, I have it downloaded, but not installed. If anybody can guide me to pull it, I would appreciate it
Interesting

Its quite simple indeed just download the zip file from the forum 5.1.1 then save it in ur sd card, press up volume, power and home button at the same time to access stock recovery, navigate to option where is says update from a file, there you go it will update to 5.1.1, batter been slightly different (not a big improvement) im indeed a very very heavy user.... i received emails all day from my job, need to check whatsapp several times, there is some annoyances however... like wifi notification that is connected never go away... the wireless and fast charging notification remain in 5.0.1 now in 5.1.1 just says it once time and disappear, album cover full screen its completly gone.... performance in task screen and some apps display faster and also navigate throught touchwiz its a little bit better... not a BIG BIG difference... they put connect to at&t network (even thou its verizon), everything its fixed in BPA1 update so if you want to give a shot go ahead... i mean its not a big big diference but if you are bored of being in 4.4.4 or 5.0.1 go ahead! good luck
This may need to go devs but notice every time you boot into recovery on this update it says "installing update". Not sure exactly what that means cause I am no dev but it seems like the the recovery is more locked down on this update.
I also did factory reset after update. So not sure why it would do that every time booting into recovery.
for last week battery been dropping fairly quickly to about 40%, then stopping abruptly. Got the update last night. After almost 12 hours on battery, it is still at 88%.
My battery wasn't doing very well until I disabled fast charging and charged regularly. But have always noticed that even on kitkat

need to back lollipop

Hello ! You can't conclude with the drain of battery in only one day. Make several charge, and look your drain after days.

You complained nonstop in several posts - duplicates mostly - about your battery life with Lollipop. So why not be helpful and describe your MM problem? It may help the community.

After update marshmallow
Drains quickly
Even though it's in lollipop was also a drain but not quickly Marshmallow

Is that true?? I guess I need to halt my update to MM. Seems like bug in Note 5 which drains battery extremely fast.
