Can't connect to fastboot in Ubuntu - Nexus Player Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The light on the bottom is blinking quickly which I assume is fastboot. But it will not show up with fastboot devices. Anyone else have this issue and found an answer?

Edit:
Fastboot is working fine with my N6 and N9. When I unplug the USB on the NP while it's in fastboot it shows on the bootloader screen that it has been unplugged, but sudo fastboot devices still shows nothing. Everything is up to date on the SDK. At a loss

I'm using elementary OS(based on Ubuntu 12.04)
adb and fastboot installed from ubuntu repositories are 1 version behind what is on developer.android.com/sdk/installing/index.html
For example, few days ago, my installed adb was 1.0.31, while in SDK it was 1.032
1.0.31 didn't see NP, but 1.0.32 works fine. Strange
So what you're supposed to do: Download official SDK, use adb and fastboot from there. And don't forget to use sudo

I'm doing both. Sees adb, but not fastboot. Might have to try and install the SDK again in case something is bugged

Same issue with NP. I'm on xUbuntu . Need a solution please.

I'm coming in late but I just got my NP. I've got a fresh install of Android Studio and SDK but I can't adb or fastboot working. Anyone figure this out?

You have to plug the USB in on both ends first, then boot the device. For some reason it doesn't like picking up a new connection while it's on... At least that's been my experience...
I'm running the latest xubuntu

Have your setup the rule file? https://web.archive.org/web/20150221063818/http://desire.giesecke.tk/tutorial-adb-on-xubuntu/ worked for me. Just check the output of lsusb in bootloader and normal modes and get both vendor and product id...
I also had to take the vendor id and add a 0x before it...

[Q] Device doesn't show up in adb

Ok, I'm having a problem here. I'm buzy on a ROM, and I have made something that I want to test. But when I try to access my phone via adb, it doesn't show up in adb devices. Just nothing. I reïnstalled adb, the drivers, rebooted the phone and computer, put on debugging mode, everything. The phone is showing in (windows) devices, but adb just don't recognize him. I'm on Windows 7 Home Premium. And on my phone Swiftdroid M5 (with ClockworkMod Recovery 3.2.0.1, which is working properly). Anyone knows what to do?
Anyone?

Heres my solution ^^ adb worked for me some weeks ago but now i had your problem too lol:
first uninstall all the adb drivers from:
Start>devicemanager
then get this :
http://www.junefabrics.com/bin2/LGDriver.exe
original LG drivers
and install
then plug your phone(debugging on of course)
then it will show 7 (i think) installations
5 of them will be done fast but 2 won't finish installation
so just go to devices and printer
rightclick on android sooner single adb interface and select troubleshooting( marked with a yellow triangle)
then just let is solve the error
the last of the 7 drivers wont install but thats not a problem
EDIT: make sure u know on which port u were doing this
Oh of course you should reinstall the adb drivers. Btw i'm in linux you can use linux for building rom. What are you using?

Hello, I tried all of the above but my device still doesn't get recognized. Is there any other way to fix this? Thanks.
I've been in the same situation like this before. My phone wasn't recognized by adb. I though it was a driver problem so I reinstall the driver million times but it doesn't help. I tried on many other computer with various OS as well but adb still can't recoginized it. At last I flash another ROM and adb can recognized my phone again. so the problem is the SDSL ROM
I see. Thanks for the info ^_^

Adb offine

I am trying to set up my adb and am having some problems. I am able to see my phone when I type adb devices, but it shows" offline". I am rooted and have twrp as my recovery but still my adb is offline.
I just updated my sdk but no lick. Anybody have any ideas?

Connect your phone, go into device manager....do you have a G2 listed there with an exclamation next to it. If so, delete it and reconnect your phone and reinstall the drivers again
Remember that usb debug must be enabled as well.

Same issue here. I have a freshly updated version of ADB SDK installed and no yellow Exclamation mark in Device Manager. Still the command "adb devices" returns my serial number but says "offline". I'm using a Windows XP machine for this, as it seems it'd be much more difficult on my Windows 8 machine. Opinions?
I assume I won't be able to root until it reports as 'online" as well.
Ideas?

I don't have a G2 so my apologies for not knowing much about it but if you are on android version 4.2 or higher you need to authenticate the pc to allow USB debugging on the phone to get it to show as online.
Try disconnecting phone from PC, turn off usb debugging. Turn usb debug back on then connect to pc and send "adb devices" command, you should get this pop up screen on your phone (make sure you have screen unlocked)
If you still have issues I think it helps to be on newest version on ADB, try sending command "adb version" it should return 1.0.31
Hope this helps!
Which version of ADB are you using? I think that version 1.0.31 needs to be used for full connectivity with Android 4.2.2

Yes it should show "device" not "online" after the device ID number. Your adb is good to go with this device now.

Whew! I updated my SDK on my Win XP machine, must have taken 90 minutes. After running EVERY update available it still reported an older version. I'm guessing you can't run the newest version of ADB on XP. Anyway, thank you (all) for your help!

[HOWTO] How to restore frimware on your device + Amazon Frimware

So if you been messing around with your fire and got to the point that it wont want to get past the loading screen or something or you may have messed up during the root process you can use these steps to restore your Fire
MOD EDIT: THE FIRMWARE LINKED HERE IS NOT SAFE AT THIS TIME, LINK REMOVED AND THREAD CLOSED.
Steps.
1. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ALL YOUR ADB DRIVERS INSTALLED!! and if you dont know how to check this thread
2. Download the amazon frimware above and keep it where you can flash it.
3. Boot into recovery (Volume Down + Power at the same time)
4. Select "adb sideload" or whatever it says using your volume keys and press the power to select
5. Now adb sideload <frimware>.bin
6. Its probably gonna take 5- 10 minutes so be patient and then once the recovery options come up make sure you wipe every thing and cache as well
7. Reboot gonna take another few minutes BE PATIENT!!
8. Now your back to your stock frimware.
I'm trying to try this method because Ive gone too far in deleting bloatware and now the Fire doesn't start properly. It get stuck on a flashing lock screen and I can't do anything (I can't concede ADB permissions so I can't operate with ADB console).
Sadly I'm trying to sideload bin into recovery mode, but It says: "device unauthorized". It weird 'cause I've the drivers installed on my PC (I've rooted and sideload Playstore before).
What can I do? :crying:

Try installing ADB drivers in Device Manager while the Fire is in recovery. If you do it correctly, when you do ADB Devices, it should come up as Sideload.

Troubleshooting
Device may not connect to PC until you select apply update from ADB,
check device manager, Fire should be listed ADB sideload or adb composite interface, when in recovery mode
If device is in adb sideload mode
Code:
adb devices
should return
Code:
G000HXXXXXXXXXXX.........sideload
if not drivers are not correct
Manually Fix Drivers
Open device manager Settings>Devices>Device Manager
(If Kindle is not listed as Android>Android Composite ADB interface)
select Other Devices>Fire
Right Click>Update Driver Software
Browse my computer for Driver Software
Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer
select Android or Android Phone (or ADB Interface or Android Device)
Select Android Composite ADB interface
or Android Composite ADB interface
next
you may have to reboot pc
Error

It's strange but when the tablet is in recovery mode, PC doesn't recognise it. The device manager doesn't show any related device. I've reinstalled drivers and nothing... Even I made the same procedure in another PC (also with W10) and nothing... There's no trail of any "Android device" in device manager when the tablet is in recovery mode. I'm seriously confused and I don't know what else to do...
Looking for a miracolous hard factory reset...
EDIT: I see that the battery is low. Does this have something to do with Recovery troubles?

possible, not sure if Amazon blocks flashing, if battery is low, i know motorola does.
You do not want battery to die during firmware install, it can brick a device.
Try charging battery.

It seems that there are some advances but a new problem appears. Finally the PC recognised the tablet into recovery's sideload option but a new error appears. I can't sideload with success 'cause of this message "You need adb 1.0.32 r never to sideload to this device. Installation aborted". Strange because I've installed the newer ADB drivers...

Sure!
I deleted my adb folder and follow the steps in your thread here. So it got the right adb version (1.0.32) and I finally could sideload properly the bin file. I think that the point is that PC just recognizes the Fire (as ADB composite) when you are into 'adb sideload' option, not in the recovery main menu.
5th Gen Kindle Fire - MT65xx Preloader problems
Hi - Noob here. 5th Gen Kindle Fire I'm trying to root. Followed the steps and had no trouble installing the ADB driver or running the .bat until...
Two things happen: 1st, Windows 7 says it fails to load a driver: MT65xx Preloader. 2nd: I get as far as the Fastboot screen but there it stops. Nothing else happens for 5-10 min until I shut it down.
I've tried downloading what were supposed to be MT65xx drivers (some off of other threads here). Windows 7 accepts none of them so far when I try to Update Driver on Unknown Device. Have tried pointing it to MT6577 USB VCOM drivers.rar, USB_Drivers.rar, and MT65xx Preloader.rar (all unzipped of course). No luck.
Any helpful advice would be appreciated.

I'm having the exact same issue. If you watch the Device Manager while the process rolls out, the MT65xx Preloader, will disappear after a few seconds and is replaced with just a generic "Android" device. At this point the rooting process hasn't even started yet, and the tablet is just sitting on the fastboot screen waiting for input.
Shadow, your solution doesn't apply. The device can still be booted back normally. It just basically sits at the fastboot screen until you power it off and turn it back on again.

Following your comment, I ran the .BAT while watching Device Mgr. Prior to running it, I had the Android device apparently successfully installed. It had its own folder in Dev Mgr without any [!]. Running the .BAT, that disappeared and Android migrated down to Other Devices. It's now next to the same Unknown Device that I haven't been able to update drivers for.
I tried pointing both to the latest_USB_drivers zip from Shadow's recommended thread. According to Win7, it's 'unable to install' from that unzipped folder or any of the others I've pulled from various threads.

With the Fire disconnected, I booted to recovery (Volume Down + Power) and got a list. Not knowing what to pick, I chose the Bootloader option. It started to boot in FASTBOOT mode. Plugged it in, went to Dev Mgr. Both Android Device and Unknown Device showing in Other Devices. Pointed the Android Device driver to the latest_USB drivers from your other thread. Windows says unable to install your Android. Tried same thing with Unknown Device. Unable to install.

Not recognized in fastboot on Mac

Hey all, I'm very new to this and have been struggling a lot here lately. I've tried to search every avenue I could possibly think of for the past week before posting, but if I missed something I apologize in advance.
I'm trying to flash my Nexus 6P back to stock, but I can't get my Mac to recognize the device when it's in fastboot. No matter what I've tried, it still asks me to connect the USB data cable. I have ADB and fastboot installed and working fine, every proper thing checked in the developer options, and the bootloader is unlocked (SuperSU and TWRP are installed if that matters). After some initial confusion, android file transfer works when the device is booted normally so I know my computer and phone can communicate. I just don't know where to go from here. Most of the tutorials on this are for PC and, unfortunately, that's not an option for me.
I really and truly appreciate the help, this is driving me insane!

Thanks for the reply! I don't get anything with the adb command, it says "list of devices attached" and then there is nothing. I do, however, get my serial number with the fastboot command.
edit: I didn't actually answer your question! I downloaded adb and fastboot from a link I found on DroidViews, so I didn't extract them from the Android SDK myself and I don't believe I have Platform Tools installed at all....

I don't know about that site, not saying they do not know what they are doing, but I downloaded the SDK Tools from Google, then I installed the SDk and Platform-Tools through that file. I followed the instructions in this guide by AshtonTS to set up ADB and fastboot. Once ADB was set up, I skipped the nano and export stuff so that I could do manual commands "./adb" or "./fastboot" so that I knew what I was doing when I flashed files onto my phone.
try installing this.

Fastboot works from bootloader. ADB works in either the OS or recovery. You already have fastboot working correctly since it's returning the device number. Boot to recovery and then do "./adb devices" You should then see the device number for adb. I've never seen one work and not the other. It's just a matter of being in the correct mode when you enter the commands.

Thanks everyone! I got new versions of adb and fastboot but what I think it boiled down too way this (I'm dumb). After spending all morning on it, I finally got back to stock and everything seems to be okay. It never did say on the phone screen that the USB was connected, but that may have more to do with it being an older mac and a type-C cord or something along those lines. Again, I greatly appreciate all the help!! :good:

ADB cannot detect after reboot to bootloader menu

ADB detects my 6P but cannot detect any devices after restarting into the bootloader menu. When this kind of thing used to happen before I just removed and replaced the USB connection to fix. No more.
Mac is seeing "Nexus 6P" in System Report under USB when 6P is booted and "Android" when 6P is in bootloader menu. I am using Google Platform-Tools. I also tried with another super-clean Mac (both are running Sierra) and got same result.
Trying to flash to Oreo OPR 17 from stock 7.1.2. Device is unlocked. USB debugging is enabled. Just says "Connect USB Data Cable" in bootloader screen. I have never had trouble doing this before. Please help. It's driving me nuts.
Two options
1. use a USB port directly on your motherboard and not one on the front of your PC.
2. Drivers issue. Remove and re-install ADB drivers.

Thanks, but I'm using OSX on 2 laptops and it doesn't need drivers for the Nexus.

Could you enter "Fastboot devices" and see what it says? Judging from your post, you are entering the wrong commands. Fastboot commands are issued when the phone is in the bootloader. ADB commands only work in recovery or when fully booted into Android.
