[Q] [HELP] Ext SD won't mount - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've had this problem since i got my i9505 but i have no more ideas on what to do next...
Since i got the phone i am not able to mount external sd card. With stock 4.4.2 it was detected but it would mount and unmount.
I flashed some other roms and most of them won't even detect the external sd card...
I am now on stock lollipop, rooted. No external sd card is detected and the Mount SD Card option is in grey. I've changed already the SD/SIM modulo and no diference.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

What format is the sdcard?
Eg. Fat32, EXfat, ext1 2 3 or 4, ntfs.
Is it a primary partition or secondary or logical partition?

To get it to work it needs to first be primary partition, but be careful as I think Fat32 is going to be dropped from andriod at some point.
My sd is primary partition and formatted as EXfat.

Tried in every possible way... And with different cards...

micro sd card issue with galaxy s4

well guys I recently bought Samsung galaxy s4 19500 and for that I bought Kingston 32gb class 10 micro sd card. it worked flawlessly
but today when I unmounted the sd card from my galaxy s4 and put it in a card reader and connected it to my pc, windows detected it but asked for to format it.I clicked format microsd 32 gb , it wont format by quick format option for NTFS, FAT32 and EXFAT formats saying windows is unable to format sd card.then I unticked the quick format option and SLOW FORMATED in FAT32 .it continued to format it till around 99% then it said cant be formatted. Now when I mounted it back in my S4 , it says blank sd card and is not detected.
ANY solution to this issue?

Just mount it in Linux. Delete all partitions using "gparted" and unmount the card and remove it from the reader. Mount it and Create the partition you want like fat32 or ext4. I won't recommend NTFS due to the fact that it very restrictive filesystem. Your card is perfect and you just need to create and mount right partitions.

[Q] 64Gb EXT4 SD card not recognized

Hi,
I've recently formated my SD card from NTFS to EXT4 format, since, neither my pc or phone can detect it or re-format it.
My Note 3 is running CM11, and i've heard it should support EX4 format but it doesn't, i'm actually trying different ROM's to try to detect my SD card but since i've started, none has worked.
do you guys have any clue to help me?
Check whether shows up in Device Manager in Windows. Never looks like a problem with ROM

It shouldn't be a Rom problem nor Kernel.
Something must be wrong with your sdCard.
Because my Note 3 N9005 detects exFat, Ntfs, Ufs, ext4 and few other format (*After Rooting*) hard drive without any issues.
I am on Stock kernel and Stock recovery.

Note 3 support Ext4 format for internal partitions only, not for the external sdcard.
Remove your card from the phone and insert it directly to the PC (via Card Reader/Adapter) to reformat it.
The problem is that the SD Card have always worked for now more than a year, using the ExFat FileSystem.
i can't reformat it because windows don't detect it since it's ext4 FileSystem and my linux or Gparted live don't detect it as well. i'm using an external card reader (cheap i recognize it) but it has always worked as well and still work with another SD card or PSP card.
have to say i feel pretty ****ed up since i had my SD card full and my internal memory too all the time :crying:
-------------------------------------
i'm actually using S5 base / Note 4 style Tweaked ROM DEODEXED and it has detected my SD card, the problem is that it is detected as a 0,00 octet card and it can't be formatted, tried the command format with terminal but it isn't available on android.
Hi just a little up so we can remember me after holydays :fingers-crossed:
Did you try changing the filesystem in TWRP recovery?

problems with SD-Card and the UltraTablet

I have tried several different SD-cards, I can get the ultratablet to recognize 8GB and 16 GB SD-cards but not 32 GB or 64 GB cards. Is anyone else having similar problems? is there a solution? Am I missing something?
I have had a SanDisk 128gb since the kick starter campaign. Pretty sure I am NTFS. No issues currently on the latest build either.

I had the same problem. I had ejected my card to erase and format it (I just wanted to start fresh on the new OS) and when I put it back in it wasn't recognized. After several hours of frustration—especially since there is no more "Storage" option in the Settings app to auto-format the card—I remembered that to get Remix 1.5 to recognize my 128 GB USB flash drive I had to format it as NTFS via my PC. So I did that with my 64 GB SD card, and when I went to check File Manager it showed up.
tl;dr Format your SD card as NTFS on your PC and it will work on Remix.
Getting closer, with NTSF ultratablet sees the card but
I formatted with NTSF, now the ultratablet sees the card but will not allow a write to it. If I put files on the SC-Card from my PC, they do not show up when viewed from the tablet.
PS
the SC-Cards that do work are 8GB and 16GB both formatted as FAT - formatted on my Samsung phone. But If I format the 64GB as FAT on my phone the ultratablet doesn't see it. It only sees the card as NTFS but will not allow read or writes.
PPS
the SD-Cards that work are class 4, the 32GB and the 64GB that don't work are class 10, could that matter?

I figured out that part last evening. After you insert the NTFS-formatted card, you have to open File Manager. In the menu on the left, touch Settings. An overview of your tablet's internal storage will appear on the right side. Near the top of that is a tab for external storage (it might be titled "No name" or something similar). Touch that tab and in the window that appears an option to "Format" will appear. When you format the card it will work correctly.

It doesn't matter. I'm using a Class 10 64 GB SDXC card.

Removable MicroSD card detected but not mounted

I have recently switched from the stock ROM (4.4.2) for my Samsung Galaxy S3 Neo+ to Cyanogen 11 (4.4.4 - I wiped data, system and cache partitions before doing this). I have a 64GB external sd card formatted to FAT32 which was working fine when using my stock ROM but Cyanogenmod will not mount it anywhere. It detects the presence of the removable sd card as I am offered to erase it in the storage section in the settings. However, there are no files under /external_sd or /storage/sdcard1.
Is there any way I can fix this and mount my external sd card?
I solved this by converting my external SD card from FAT32 to NTFS using MiniTool Partition Wizard.

[Resolved] Need help about Micro SDCard unreadable in TWRP version 3.1.1

Hi all...
I have a Micro SDCard under the brand "Sandisk Ultra", class 10 which is formatted fat32 (now I format again to ExFat) size 32Gb.
My device is S4-i9500 using MBP-v5-PF1 ROM. Now I'm using recovery with TWRP version 3.1.1.
So my problem here is that my Micro SDCard is not read through TWRP (Micro SDCard = 0 mb). But here, when I turn on my device, I can see that my Micro SDCard is read through the ES Explorer app. Strangely again, when I tried to insert Micro SDCard class 4, it was read in TWRP, either formatted fat32 or ExFat. So I really need an explanation of where the problem lies? Thank you for your help.
Regards.
So my problem lies in forgetting to change the partition type. It turned out that Micro SDCard mine is still logical type, should be changed to Primary. That is all. So my problem is over. :victory:
