Apologies if this has been proven currently not possible on the Nexus Player.
I've been following the main Sony Remote Play Port thread and have unlocked and rooted my Nexus Player. The port is installed and opens fine.
However, whenever I try to select anything in the app, it comes up with a dialogue box saying "you don't have an app that can do this" and proceeds to do nothing.
I've tried having the companion Playstation app installed concurrently, but it doesn't help.
Has anyone managed to get the Remote Play app working on their Nexus Player, or has encountered the "you don't have an app that can do this" error anywhere else?
Cheers!
[Solved]
I've figured it out! I didn't have Chrome (or any other internet browser) installed. When trying to connect to the PS4, the app needs to log into PSN and uses a browser to do so instead of doing it within the app itself.
Thus, the "you don't have an app that can do this" error on the Nexus Player can be solved by installing Chrome.

I've tried searching through the forums to see if this issue has already been solved but I wasn't able to find a clear answer on XDA or through google... so I figured it out on my own If this solution has already been discovered and posted please let me know.
Anyways, I know a lot of us haven't been able to get Allshare to connect with the Xbox360 (really the other way around), but after a little toying around with different options, I came upon THE way to push media from any galaxy s phone to the Xbox...
1.) All you really need to do is to have media center set up on your Xbox360 (if you haven't, just follow the super simple steps provided by the software itself)
2.) Just open up Allshare like normal, and when you get to the select device screen, you should now see "xbox360 media center" instead of what you may have saw before which was just "xbox360"
3.) Now just select your media like you would anyway, and viola, your media should begin to playback on it's own instantly.
...this should also work the same with regular media center on pc.
As I said before, if this has been posted, there's no need to flame me. Just let me know and I'll take it from there lol.
If I'm in Media Center on the 360, nothing shows up under allshare. If I exit Media Center to the Dashboard, then I see "Xbox 360" in allshare, but I can't do anything with it. Your steps are pretty vague, so what am I doing wrong?

Anyone know anything about this? Success playing devices from vibrant via xbox 360?
I just played a picture slide show and played music loaded on my Vibrant on a big screen TV using my PS3, works perfectly connecting with All Share
Is it possible to allshare Avatar?

I am having trouble as well. I can select the 360 from my phone but nothing happens on the TV and my 360.
I have my 360 connected to the internet through an ethernet cable and my phone using wireless, could that be the issue?
If anyone has gotten this to work can you shed some light on what you have done differently.
Whenever I do this it keeps saying my Xbox 360 requires a update to play my media, and I install the update and it still asks for it -_______________________-.
Its works flawlessly when the xbox and vibrant are both on wifi

So do I need to actually have a media center pc all setup through xbox in order to get the xbox (media center) to show up in all share? I have a pc that I play videos from on the xbox but its running xp and when I start media center in the xbox it checks the network then displays a code and tells me to finish the setup at xbox360.com. Am I missing something?

That's correct. Your xbox needs to be set up and linked to your Media Center PC first.

Can anyone confirm that this works on Media Center Extender v2 (DMA-2100/2200)?

Since you got it working perfectly maybe you can help me. I was able to see the samsung galaxy s in the ps3 video menu and start playback from there but i was not able to get the ps3 to show up on the allshare menu and thus I was not able to use the phone as a remote for the video on the ps3. If you could post what you did to get the ps3 on the allshare menu on the phone that would be great. I would really like to have the control on the phone so i dont have to get out a ps3 remote.
Still can't get this to work. The 360 never shows up in the list on the phone, but the name of the PC that the 360 is extending shows up... twice. If I select it, nothing will play.
The other issue is, most of my music is on my external SD card, but when I select that as the default storage location in the AllShare settings it doesn't find anything.
The Allshare app worked with the 360 from the 1st day I got my Vibrant (Jul 2010). However, I thought it was lame (for my purposes anyway) because it but seemed to require a Media Center PC. It doesn't look like that has changed. Skip Allshare. I eliminated the PC by using Twonky from the Market. Any other DLNA server replacement from the Market may work as well too. If you like / want to have a PC in the middle, this simply ignore this post.
I've found when trying to download apk's off xda on chrome it opens a video player.
Anyone else had his issue?
At first I thought it was VPlayer opening but it appears to be chrome ( but this is from looking at the opened apps)
So I went into application manager in settings and cleared chrome's defaults and it worked at first as it asked permission to download the file but it just opens the video player again...please help.
Nexus 7
Root
Paranoid Android v.2+
I don't know if it's at all related, but I have a similar issue when I try to follow links in Google currents, especially play store links, sometimes it just opens another random current article instead of opening play store.

I have a similar problem - sometimes when i click on a link in flipboard it opens OI-Filemanager instead of a webpage.
It´s Android not iOS! It´s not perfect...!

When trying to download an APK in Chrome it ALWAYS tries opening it with BS Player, rather than just downloading it. If I uninstall BS Player, Chrome works properly and just downloads the APK. If I user any other browser, everything works. It's driving me nuts! Any thoughts?
Using Chrome on Nexus 7 16GB Android 4.1.2, btw.
Any fix for this yet? It is very annoying.
Same problem here with chrome and Bs player. Any idea's?
Same on galaxy note II N7100.
Chrome opens vplayer.
I tried to removed the "Launch by default" settings in vplayer and chrome for the applications manager but still remains....
Having same problem on HTC One X... apk links in Google Chrome opens in Vplayer...
So, nobody can help us with this? I have a SGS3 with stock (yet unpublished) 4.1.2 and it works ok, but on my gtab with CM10 it is on permanent failure. Only solution to date is uninstalling vplayer, but I need it for other tasks so, no joy. Some help would be extremely welcome. Come on! It's Christmas
Sorry guys, this is just a "me too" response. This thread has been dead for 2 months.
I've just been coping the URL into the stock browser "Internet" to avoid, in my case, VPlayer opening....
I just got a new Android TV/Nexus Player device. And was able to find other media apps either installed as soon as I set things up or via going to the Google Play Store app in the Android TV device. But I have not been able to find Netflix. And when I go to Google Play using a PC web browser, the page for the Netflix app says that Netflix is not compatible with my "No carrier Asus Nexus Player".
Anyone know why? I've searched here and been unable to find an answer so far. I know there's the ability to side load apps. But being new to Nexus Player, I'd just like to get Netflix quickly installed via Play Store if possible.
Any help is appreciated.
Worked with Netflix support. Did a hard reset and entered my Google credentials manually. And Netflix is there now.
Just setup my Nexus Player... same issue. Netflix is MIA on the device and Google Play Store says Nexus Player isn't compatible.
Can you provide a bit more detail on the fix Netflix gave you? Hard reset what? The NP? Manually entered Google credentials? Where? TIA.

Reset to factory settings
After you reset to Factory settings, the first thing on screen will be a prompt for Language/Region. Be sure you pick the correct one for where you are, since Netflix won't work with some selections. I don't know which don't work. Mine is "English US". After that, you'll be asked to setup your Google account. Which you can do via web browser or entering your Google ID/password manually on the Nexus Player. I entered my manually on the Nexus Player.
I've attempted resets and manually entering passwords, disabling location, enabling location and still no luck.
This is a brand new out of the box Nexus Player yet I cannot access Netflix due to it thinking I'm "out of region" or something.
Just got mine today and same problem. What I did was go to settings>apps (under the device menu). Under system apps, find Google play store and click it. Click force stop and OK it. Clear cache, then clear data. Click open and Netflix should be there.
Same problem.
try update your Nexus player to lolipop 5.1.1 in Setting > apps > About
go on the google play website and find Netflix compatible with android tv
Same problem; updated to 5.1.1, factory reset, updated all apps, still no Netflix available on Google Play.
So I downloaded the APK found at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-player/help/netflix-apk-t3121671
and installed it. Worked perfectly.
It seems there are newer versions of the apk (http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/netflix-inc/) but I haven't tried it.
I don't have a micro USB adapter to use an external storage, so I placed the apk on a windows share in the network and pulled it with ES File Explorer on the Nexus Player.
You need to allow the installation of non-Play Store apps in Settings, Security.

Just grab the APK file somewhere legit. That's what I did when it didn't appear in the Play Store. Maybe you can even request it from them. I dunno.
Has anyone has Spotify able to cast to the nexus player yet? I know they said an update would be out, but have not heard or seen any news about it.
Thanks!
wanted to try it out yesterday but didn't get to.
I'll set myself a reminder to try it out tonight and update this post, so stay tuned.
EDIT: Ok, I tried it. Got the latest Spotify update (the one which mentions Chromecast support in its changelog) and tried casting, however no cast button is appearing. In order to verify I directly opened the youtube app on the same phone after and in youtube I got the cast button...

From what I saw, they weren't adding a Cast button for Spotify, but rather listing it under the Devices Available option when playing, like Spotify Connect. Which makes sense I guess, you wouldn't want two completely separate interfaces for what is basically the same thing.
Doesn't appear there on mine though for the Nexus Player.
Nexus Player still not showing under Spotify Connect on you're phones app? Like with the new Chromecast update?

Hi all, I've just got my moto x force and updated to marshmallow. When I try to play online videos I'm missing some of my apps in "play with" pop-up menu. I should have MX player and also have droid loader there too. I can't find out why they are not an option any more. They were when on 5.1.1

Not saying it's the definite cause, but there is a menu in MX Player where you tell it which file types you want it to play; it's possible that for whatever reason some options have been deselected so MX Player doesn't attempt to intercept the file types you're trying to play?
It's strange as on 5.1.1 it was OK. Even loader droid download manager isn't on the list
I was looking for more info and found this. Seems to have worked. Really Strange !!

Bah, I installed "Intent Intercept" app from Google Play to try and provide some additional information to help resolve this issue... and lo and behold MX Player now appears as a valid target for playing remote WMVs and MP4s...
Have no clue about what happened, but the issue seem to be Android-related, and has nothing to do with MX.
Thanks anyway!

OK this exact thing has just happened to me. Installed Intent Intercept and now everything is showing. I've uninstalled t now to see and they still show. Maybe something in that app has kicked android to work proper now haha
