Method for Rooting Newest ATT Build - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can some of you guys point me in the direction for the best method of rooting the most recent ATT version. There seems to be a few methods and I can't quite pin down the one I should be using. I've had HTC phones in the past and rooting this phone seems to be much easier other than I'm not sure which method to use due to so many variants of the phone. I appreciate the help.

There are a few methods to rooting the G2. The 3 most commonly referred to ones are,
IORoot25.
TowelRoot.
StumpRoot.
IORoot is as simple as enabling USB Debugging, connecting your G2 to your PC and then running the .bat file on your computer.
TowelRoot comes in the form of an .apk which you can run on your device, essentially rooting your phone wirelessly.
StumpRoot also comes in the form of an .apk which you can run on your device.
I recommend going with IORoot25 for your AT&T D800. It has the highest and most clearly stated compatibility, and from reading user feedback here on XDA, it causes the least amount of problems (mostly related to compatibility).

I have an AT&T Model too, and the method that worked for me was using StumpRoot

[Q] Is it currently possible to root an AT&T Galaxy S4 (1337) on 4.4.2?

I updated my Galaxy S4 (1337 AT&T) to 4.4.2 KitKat, without realizing that I risked the possibility of not being able to root my phone for a while. Is there any way to root my phone right now? If not, when do you think a root method will be available? I use on a mac running OSX Mavericks at the moment so if there are any methods specifically for macs then please do let me know. Thank you!
You can downgrade to a semi-working 4.3 firmware and then flash a pre-rooted 4.4.2 rom using safestrap. Although this method requires you to use odin at the end so idk if odin works for mac or not.
Further details discussed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2692825
There is no traditional root method available, but the root-workaround is an excellent solution to gain root access.
This "index" thread will tell you all you need to know concerning roms, root, etc. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2616221

Thanks, when do you estimate a traditional root method will arrive for my phone?
There is no estimate. For future reference, asking for any kind of estimated time is generally frowned upon as the insanely hard working devs here on xda have a ton of stuff on their plates BEFORE you add in actually working on any device. Not trying to sound like one of those asshats that gets all bent out of shape about people who ask for an eta, just giving you the heads up.

Well, with a working root method already available, most devs see no reason or motivation to do something redundant. Since root access is already available.
If our bootloaders were unlocked, then we would be able to use Chainfire's CF-autoroot method.
If I root like this, will I still be able to install custom roms?

Yes, but you are limited to using Safestrap and Touchwiz ROMs.

Heimdall is generally used on the macs--I haven't needed it but you can google and get familiar--I found numerous sites and some are on xda. Always good to read all you can and kinda reconfirm what one site may say or find out it wasn't right for you.
if you haven't this link should help you get adb working on mac
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1917237
best advice was already given by 4ndroid99's link and also get very familiar with SafeStrap for your build. Threads for that are on our forum here also. You can't flash custom recoveries, just what SafeStrap provides.
Also, I have never had luck on my iMac with Keis and my rooted s4--recommend not using it
Good Luck--:good:

[Q] Glaxy Tab 4 T537 att

Is it possible to un-lock the boot loader on this device? I have read that ATT has locked boot loaders.
Also do I need root to enable USB Host? When I use USB host checker , android,hardware.usb.host is checked green.
But,
Hanheld.core_hardware.xml & _core_hardware.xml are X'ed in red.
Any assitance would be greatly appriecieated
Not possible to unlock
To be more accurate, it is very very very very unlikely to be unlock able.

I have the SM-t537a, Or the new 10.1 I used towel-root and it did in fact give me full root, Also unlocked the device. I only tested it for root with one of the root checkers from the play store I am sorry I cannot remember witch one. I booted to recovery mode and had full access to the boot-loader
However there are no roms for my device as it is so new. The towel-root is available on the net, I just typed in towel-root on Google,. It took me 3 or 4 tries before I got a clean link, just be careful and follow the instructions, and you should have no problems. Here is the good link for the towel root .apk just go to Google search and type in towel root. I am new here so I cannot post the link, but it is towel root by geohot.
Towel root won't install on my device even though i told it to allow unknown apps. Any ideas on why this is? I have the ATT tab 4 also. I really want to unlock the bootloader on this if anyone knows a work around.

hopefully you already found your answer... you have to downgrade to an exploitable version T537AUCU1ANE1 then use TR. I had the same issue around the start of this year. It's posted in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785869&page=25#post58495094
OK, I just got this damn Samsung tab 4. I Have the exact one (ATT), it is running 4.4.2. TR does NOT work on this, tried it. Can someone point me in the direction for another method. Looking for the method flashing older version to gain root. Usually google will get me where I need to go, not this time.

Thanks rep, going to give this a try this afternoon. If this works I'll keep the tablet lol.
OK, so that root process worked. Big smile on my face. Now to get a custom recovery on this and flashe a rom. Anyone now of one for sm-t537a?

AT&T and Verizon lock all their bootloaders, so unfortunately custom recoveries and custom kernels are impossible. You could build a custom rom, just as long as it was able to run on top of the stock kernel (so no cyanogenmod). You still have to figure out a way to flash it (Flash Fire maybe?)
Dang. Time to sell this thing lol.
So when did all this get so complicated? I take a hiatus from Android for a year or two and come back and everything is locked down. Maybe I'm wrong, but it never used to be this difficult.
Locked bootloaders are a terrible thing

Very NOOBy, but I would like some things cleared up.

I currently have an S5 G900A on 5.0.
Am I able to root this phone as is?
If not, am I able to root it by downgrading it to say 4.4.2?
How would I got about doing either of these?
I'm sorry that I'm a big noob at this, but I would like to root my phone and I'm having issues right now.

With an AT&T branded device, you will find things difficult at best......
You have zero chance of downgrading successfully due to a locked bootloader and security measures put in place by AT&T........
Some XDA members have given favourable mention to a process called (I think) safe strap, but as I have never had to use it, I haven't needed to research it.
One thing is for certain though.....
While you *might* be able to attain root, you won't be able to flash a custom recovery to your device.......blame AT&T and their almost apple like desire to retain control over your device........

Root question about G930U

I recently purchased an unlocked S7 straight from Samsung
It's build is G930UUEU4APL2 running 6.0.1 and I haven't activated it yet.
Can this be rooted? And if so, do I activate it first with VZW or is it done prior to activation?
Not new to rooting, just new to this phone.. .so don't beat me up too badly.
There are multiple root threads for MM and now that N is finally out, you'll be able to update and root that. I would make sure it is activated with VZW and you test it out working first. Root can make the phone do weird things because of the engineering kernel not being designed for daily use. The root threads will also walk you through how to optimize the phone after root so that you don't run into too much lag. Again, use the phone unrooted for a short time to get a feel for it so you know what expected actions and results are

TA-1025, Is root really possible?

I've seen several tutorials on this with variants of the Nokia 6 I'm hesitant to proceed with the steps at the moment, I'm running the Amazon Add version and have successfully figured out how to keep the adds off my phone however I desire more startup app control. Is there a method to root the phone that doesn't involve running firmware from a different phone variant or installing old firmware, currently I have 7.1.2 installed on the phone.

Atm it's not even officially possible to root the device without risk. So no there's no way to use other Roms atm

Lame, I think I'll just buy a different phone, far too many restrictions.
