[DEV][Thinktank]Root 23.0.1.A.0.167 FW on Sony Xperia™ Z2? (Android 4.4.4)

Today, the long-awaited update Android 4.4.4 for Sony Xperia™ Z2 is released.
Rejoice!
But, installing this update will overrun the root access. Root access will be gone. So, how to root 23.0.1.A.0.167 FW on Sony Xperia™ Z2?
I'm gonna try the same old "Easy Root Tool" and see what happens. Any ideas would be good!

I got root on 4.4.4 on my own, using this guide, credits @norti
@niaboc79 's pre-rooted ROM was based on Generic RU and the NC feature wasn't working on it. So I wanted to download a brand new FTF with my customization number and followed the steps on the guide.

Got my own .167 (4.4.4) ROM (Generic DE) with root on my Sony Xperia™ Z2.

but you should definitely put question mark in title...
we are lucky to have older fw (I'm talking for LB, z3 can't be downgrade and they will have problems to root 4.4.4. I believe we could use older fw to root fw and to upgrade keeping root...
I'll upgrade later today and will try few things...

I doubt...
Sony patched all those security holes and all those methods should be updated.
Of course, someone should try...
Can anyone confirm he upgraded D6503 to 4.4.4?

Wouldn't downloading the update through PC companion and making an ftf/downloading an ftf and then pre-rooting the firmware work? We have recovery for the phone so a pre-rooted flashable firmware should work without working exploits right?

In 30 minutes, I will. The update is downloading now. It's around 1.2GB.

As a few members noticed, the thread title was a little misleading, as it seemed like there already was a way to root the new firmware.

4.4.4 for D6503 isn't out yet.
Don't bother to download that, it'll say it's 167 but you'll download 314 and flashing will stop immediately after downloading fw.

Yes, that should work.
That's why I said, we are lucky to have older fws to downgrade and keep the root using prerooted fws...
we'll see once fw is available...

I didn't actually read any of the other replies to the thread. Mainly cause the main post was all about how could we root it.

It is possible to install the lockeddualrecovery from NUT? If yes we can use it for root

i guess this will be the option for now. Root .314 firmware, backup TA then flash 4.4.4 ftf. Plug the device to flashtool and unlock the BL, install Doomkernel (for recovery), flash supersu.zip, plug phone again to flashtool reflash stock kernel, boot the phone and it should be rooted then restore TA Backup.

Thats correct, but too long way to install .167

anyone is working on prerooted rom?
I'm starting so if anyone is already on it I don't want to lose time on that....

It is possible to install it on a rooted firmware, you wouldn't be able to install it on the new firmware without root.

You wouldn't even need to do that.
1) Root .314 firmware.
2) Install locked bootloader recovery.
3) Make a pre-rooted firmware of the 4.4.4 build.
4) Install the firmware through recovery.

Is it for the D6502 or D6503? If I was able to update my D6503 to 4.4.4 I would have done it but I have been plagued with the same problem as all the other D6503 owners. I'm just going to wait for a UK unbranded pre-rooted firmware (or a UK unbranded ftf, whatever comes first).

[Stock][Lolipop][ZIP][C6602&C6603]10.6.A.0.454 [Prerooted]

This is prerooted zips based on C6602 Customized US 10.6.A.0.454 and C6603 10.6.A.0.454 Customized HK, downloaded with Xperifirm, packacked by flastool and rooted with PRFCreator. I myself tested it on my C6602 and root worked (with SuperSU). Haven't tested C6603, but it should also work. I don't take responsibility for any damage to your phone.

C6603 rom seems not to be flashing, so I removed it for time being.
As users have been reporting, flashing with twrp results in fail, so flashing with CWM(or recovery based on it) is advised. Also you should be on stock 4.4.4 (rooted with recovery) before flashing.

TWRP says it's installed after 1 second installation on C6603. What to do?

Without recovery u can't flash this.. Install any 4.4.4 rom and install recovery. Then flash this rom

It Worked.
I installed it with the cwm. I flashed a 4.4.4 stock kernel thru flashtool and i worked without any problems. But I havent checked the root status. Will check that

You should go back to stock kitkat, root, install recovery and then flash this.

I flashed from 4.4.2 ftf after root and recovery but you can probably flash from anything if you do a complete wipe including kernel etc check op for screenshots

You can't install it with flashtool. You need to root and install reocvery.

There is a new root method for lollipop roms. You can find it in here in the general section. And yes you have to put the rom file in the SD card. I suggest you to read everything about root, bootloader unlocking, TA backup, and recovery and only start it.

so i think if we change the kernel to 5.0 kernel and root it by kingroot it will success !

I kept getting bootloop

In theory it shouldn't boot due to a mismatch in Android version. It was like this back on my XM when 4.3 got released for it, so I can't see anything having changed.

You should get the notification, you should be able to download it, but it will not install.

afaik, it will install (OTA fw update) but you will lose your root and recovery. im really not sure tho as i always update thru flashing pre-rooted firmware

It will not install. It will notify that there is some update and it will download it but it will not install as some files in system are changed
