Trying to help my father with (semi) bricked SM-900H - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So my dad recently picked up a SM-900H variety of the S5. He had it for about a week and the power button started to fail. Then, more recently, the phone said it had a software update from Samsung and he figured you could trust samsung and he let it go...turns out now the phone thinks it's a 900F, instead of a 900H and the radios are all buggered up...it gets constant sim card imei errors, and it doesn't seem to want to go to download mode which would allow up to put different software on it. You cannot do the key press combo, because the power button is non-functional, and if you try adb reboot download, it just reboots the phone normally.
Was wondering if anyone could help me out with this thing? Is it even worth trying to save?
Thanks!

Think Id be returning it / getting it replaced if it's new and doing that already

He bought it off Craigslist, so that is not an option.
Thanks for the reply, though.

See whether it's still under warranty, see if Samsung will fix it
Or if you're technically headed, open it up and try fix the buttons so you can get into download mode
There are apps that allow you to boot to recovery/download but you need root for that, and unless you can get into download mode, you can't root either, bit of a catch 22

Anybody know if a usb jig works on an S5?
Sent from my rooted kn0x0 stocKK SM-G900F S5

Apparently yes
If the device fails to respond to any key combinations and appears completely dead, it is likely that it is hard-bricked. The only viable solution for this issue is to use JTAG service locally or a USB jig.

The only reason I ask about the jig is that it *should* force the phone into download mode (even) from a powered off state......The OP can then odin flash the phone.

USB Jig on Bell\Virgin Galaxy S II

If you're wondering if the USB jig works on Bell GSII... read on.
So I received my USB jig in the mail today.
First off a little background...
Bell locked, but unlocked using unsecured kernel and Helroz's Galaxy_S unlock app.
Flashed multiple custom ROMs and the last one I had was Sensation ROM by Crysis.
At boot up I was showing the nasty YELLOW triangle and showed "Galaxy S II I-9100" as opposed to "I-9100M".
The jig worked, cleared my counter and removed the yellow stain on my boot up screen, and brought me back to i-9100M.
With that said, anyone in need of an emergency USB jig fix around the GTA can use mine but of course, you'd have to meet me... I ain't driving to meet you.
Good to know it works.
I should be receiving mine soon.
Hey Guys, where did u order the USB Jig from? I'm looking at buying one for myself.
Thanks,

Steps are very, very, VERY complicated....
1) Power Off GS2
2) Insert USB Jig
3) wait....wait for it...
4) done
reboot
Yeah you dont even power on the device. When you plug in the usb it will automatically boot your phone.

Just received my jig today, have a question though before I pop this in.
Should I use this before installing a custom rom or after?
Does it just reset the counter? Doesn't remove the custom rom or anything right?
Phone is brand new haven't flashed anything yet.
Thanks.
why am i so lazy to purches one! i guess ill wait a till im screwed
Got mine yesterday. Worked perfect.
Should I use this before installing a custom rom or after?
After.... though you can also use it to get in to Download mode initially but not necessary since we have the button combination as an alternative
Does it just reset the counter? Doesn't remove the custom rom or anything right?
It just resets the counter, it doesn't do anything to the ROM.
The jig is only for getting into download mode and reset the counter... thats it.
Got my jig for 4$ on ebay. And got it today and voila no yellow triangle anymore!

[Q] help my bricked galaxy S4 MF3

Installed https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.font.installer&hl=en tried a custom font... BRICK
Things I tried to unbrick with
1.flashing a pit file in odin
Not tried
1. BestBuy, gonna trip out there after my college classes.
2. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Unbrick-Ser...t-/271267344770?ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:US:1123 would like to do this only as a last resort as i am broke right now.
I'm posting on XDA for some help/suggestions on what i should do. (please note I have no custom recovery)
Also I saw someone say they put their phone on T-Mobile and took a T-Mobile OTA to replace the MF3 and then bootloader unlocked the T-Mobile update.
Edit: I do have the SGH-1337 sim unlocked currently running on airvoice going to make the switch to T-Mobile sometime this week.
Don't mess with the pit file. Best case, it didn't do anything, worst case I'd it messes up your phone worse that it is. You never mentioned what state your phone is in. Did it boot? Boot into download or what.
I think your best bet is best buy. They seem to be able to flash the mf3 firmware. It's basically the same thing jtag would do and it's free.

Wasn't thinking straight, it bootloops at the AT&T logo so I can hit download and stock recovery. tried factory reset from recovery, no dice. I'll be hitting up best buy asap. and do you anything about OTA'ing to T-Mobile and possibly unlocking that build?

You can use the Samsung kies program to do an emergency recovery. It should work. I'd try that before bestbuy.

thanks for the suggestion, just put my phone in download I'm guessing?
Samsung sure does think they're protecting me by locking my bootloader. locked bootloader just creating problems ;-;
Kies just sorta sits here...

Except kies doesn't have mf3...and more often than not makes the phone worse than before as it does a partial flash of (older) MDL until it gets stopped due to bootloader

You'd probably be better off going to a Best Buy that has a "Samsung Experience" booth. They can flash it back to stock MF3. The normal BB service counter will have no clue what your talking about.

Just cam back from my local Breast Boy. Phone got returned to perfect stock. The guy knew what he was doing and tried a few different things to get my phone on MDL/MDK like i asked and hes said the program wouldn't allow it. (I watched over his shoulder, no hope sadly :/)

Glad you got it back working. There's no way it'll ever be able to be downgraded.

Popup messages....

Whenever I switch my phone on, I get a message in a white box that says something about making sure the battery cover is firmly in place.
....And....
Whenever I unplug my charger, a similar box mentioning the charger port cover appears......
Let's face it, this advice ain't rocket science is it, and to be honest, they are annoying.........
Is there any way of getting rid of them?
I am rooted, so if I have to modify some text in build prop or something similar I can........
Thanks in advance......Keith...

I believe theres something you can edit to remove them, i forget what it is but you can google. There are also a number of xposed modules that do this as well.

Having trouble getting rid of these popups on rooted stock lollipop.
Solutions like the the popupdisablerzip don't seem to work anymore and the the xopsed framework won't work either (yet).
Any more ideas, short of a custom rom?

I wouldnt take any of this as fact since i dont have lollipop, but i'd think they havent found the files yet. It's safe to assume the zip or the options in the module just edit the file that makes them appear, not just supress them some how. So you'll most likely have to wait, shouldn't take long though.

Firmware issue. Please help!

Good morning everyone.
Long story: I promised a cousin of mine I could downgrade his phone to an older version of Android(kitkat) because they didn't like lollipop for many reason. In my head I thought it would be a good hour or less job, so I took it home with me to flash an older stock rom on it. It didn't work and he needs his phone after he gets out of school in 6 hours.
Short: I tried to flash a 4.4.2 stock image(SamMobile) with Odin but it failed at some point and when I returned to the phone it wouldn't boot up, but it did give an error msg "firmware update encountered an issue" when ever I try to use Odin I get "FAIL" what I'm seeing is "Auth fail" . I also can no longer get into recovery mode to reset or clear anything (Vol up+Home+Power)
If I left any information out please let me know I'm really in need of help I don't want to look stupid or have to buy a new phone for him....
If someone can please help me I've never seen this issue before.... (Nexus user)

AT&T bootloader is locked IIRC, you might need to take it to the store to get it flashed back to KK

I don't think even the store can flash it back to KK, they might be able to though. Only way to get a 900A KK phone is to get a replacement from the store as far as I know.

What abou this Galaxy s5 bootloop issue: https://youtu.be/vYoGOL12vSU my s5 is unlocked g900f so no carrier bull**** or locked bootloaders, but soon as I flash this firmware G900FXXU1ANG9_G900FNEE1ANG5_G900FXXU1ANG8_HOME from sammobile, I just get stuck on that bootloop as it is on the video.
I'm I ****ed and I have to take it back or can I somehow resolve this without service center, reason I want to avoid them is that my knox if at 0x1 so no warranty.

You may have to make your own post, yours just seems like a simple bootloop.
Update: with little help on my post I feel like I searched for hours and hours and came up with this conclusion, reactivating is stopping me from flashing anything, but the problem is I was getting the "firmware encountered an issue" error msg on powering up each and every time even when teething to load recovery mode (only went to download mode. Day or so later the error msg is gone and it tries to boot but fails then restarts boot and goes straight to recovery mode. Any help now?? The help here is kind of slow.....

Really?
It's very strange that behaviour!
Go to a repair center, Samsung, and ask for a solution.

Once you root you lose knox. No way around it.

You would have to reinstall the stock firmware back onto your device.
You've broken KNOX now, even flashing stock firmware won't bring it back. Only Samsung can reset it.

actually not even samsung can reset... its motherboard thing... change motherboard and you will get back knox.
