[Q] Galaxy S4 connection problem - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
i have an unlocked Samsung galaxy S4 and I keep getting a no service stop sign (see screenshots) at the top of my device. I cannot make calls nor receive any sms messages. However I can connect and use a 4G network.
Things I tried to solve this:
Use other simcards
Switch network operator
Factory reset
Flash Cyanogenmod
airplane mode on off/restart phone
Send my device to samsung for a repair
None of these things helped me out and I really am stuck here, none of my friends who also have a galaxy S4 and are on the same network have these problems and even the Samsung technicians didn't solve it. please see the screenshots below with my network status.

Is there anything else i can do to solve this?
Thanks in advance!

Did the Samsung techs explain what they did? I'm assuming they restored the device to stock and weren't able to resolve this. Since you've done virtually everything software related and the problem hasn't been resolved, you need to look at the hardware.

Yes, I was thinking that too... But what hardware problem could this be? The antenna? Are there any guides on what I should do/check?

There aren't any guides I'm aware of. The two easiest fixes on the S4 are the antenna wire and the SIM card tray. I'm more inclined to believe your SIM card tray is the culprit here, as you are getting 4G signals that you wouldn't get if your antenna was bad. You have tried different SIM cards and had the same result, so we can rule out the SIM itself as the problem. I'd replace the SIM card tray. Replacements are inexpensive at about $10USD off Amazon and replacing the tray is about the easiest thing one can do on the S4.
When you do the replacement, the new tray likely will not have the rubber pad on top of the motherboard connector that the original has. Simply peel the rubber pad off the old tray and put it on top of the new tray's connector. This ensures the connector doesn't loosen during use.

Wi-fi suddenly extremely weak / not working

The Wifi of my HD2 is all of the sudden barely working. It only gets a signal if it's about an inch away from a router, so in practice it's not really working.
I tried several roms and radios, run task 29, but nothing has had any effect.
Do you have any ideas what has happened? Do you think it is hardware-related?
Have you checked in the WIFI settings, there is an option for best performance or best battery.
Yeah, it doesn't seem to change anything.
maybe uve bent the phone and the antennas/antennas solder pad disconnected
Interesting.. I have been pushing the sides of the (somewhat recently replaced) digitizer pretty hard in an attempt to make it fit perfectly, because the service-people apparently didn't do so. Could this have loosened or disconnected something?
Another possibility is of course that the service-people did something, but they claim that's not possible.
Anyone?
(yea, this is a bump of sorts)
WiFi signal extremely weak
I have the same problem with my HD2. I tried changing ROM and/or Radio but nothing happens. This is not my first HD2, i buy them and then sell them here in my country so it is probably a hardware issue. However this is the first HD2 i got that is apparently manufactured after June of this year, which I think is a new model.
Here is a comparison between the HD2 and a Pure, side by side in the same room. (The router is about 3 meters from the devices)

Any other one with a problem like this?
yeah, my HD2 has always got weak WiFi signals, while my laptop shows 4 bars, the HD2 only shows 2 bars. But back then, the WiFi is still usable.
but since last week, I kept getting disconnected from the WiFi router when i try to access the internet. No matter how many different ROMs and Radio i try, they are all the same.
I'm starting to wonder if HTC hardware fails after a certain period of usage... hmm...
Phone was prolly damaged during the repair process, take it back and have them replace it

[Q] WTF SO MAD. Physically cannot insert Sim card into my P8600 that I got TODAY.

I've taken it in and out a few times without any issues. I've been rooting etc. today so i decided that ill keep the sim in my phone while i get things situated. So, I get things situated, and apparently I've broken it. I don't think its my fault at all... the Sim card just simply will not click into the device. I'm pretty sure its because the mechanism is in "SD Card Inserted" mode, but i have NO IDEA how to fix this. I might just send this back and not get a tablet.
Can anyone help me out/give advice.
edit: NOTE: Yes, I have checked to see if im inserting in the correct orientation. I even checked verizons website for a photo simulation.
The pins on the 7.7 are EXTREMELY sensitive. The same thing happened to mine. I ended up setting up an RMA however I just got an email today from Negri telling me that the unit is considered "damaged" and they will not honor the RMA.
I believe this is a design flaw as there is no reason that normal use with a SIM card should cause this sort of damage.
Has this happened to anyone else? We need to make sure that Samsung is aware of the issue.
I believe majority of us here would recommend you taking it to Samsung for repair. While you might have to part with your beloved device for couple weeks but this is possibly the best option.
If you were planning to send it back for repair, I also recommend you to have them calibrating the electronic compass as well if you found it display incorrect reading like mine, which has almost 90-degree off-course.
Happen to me once, push the sim card with something sharp.
hi !

Hi, this happened to me last week. I wondered what the hell was going on. The sim would phisically not push down where it once clicked in place.
I only got mine in January. Luckily I got mine from Panamoz with the £12 replacement warranty. Sent it back to Panamoz last week and they agreed it was faulty and sent me a brand new one which I received today

Mobile Data/Network/Internet Issue

I did not have this issue before change my charging socket.

Issiue:
My phone gets H/H+/3G mobile data so hardly.
Even if I inside a building it only gets "Edge" signal or non!
In a building with same phone and gsm op. others get 3G etc. but mine phone gets Edge.
I set APN, wipe cache, reboot etc.. Nothing changed.
PS: If I change WCDMA/GSM(auto) to Just WCDMA, I get H+,3G sometimes in a building but it turns to no service or no data at frequent intervals. Not stable to use..
Reads like you have damaged a component .

Which component you think?
I have seen reports where people used a cheap third-party USB replacement and the phone started to suffer charging, sync, and/or signal issues.
If the phone connects at 3g before the part change, install the old part and see what happens.

I don't have the old damaged part.
Otherwise phone connect the 3G but not everywhere. It doesn't connect in a building but connects out of the building or connects very normally at popular squares.
Is the signal worse with the new part? If it is, maybe buy another one and try? I got cheap one from Aliexpress and it worked very well for a Note 3 n900w8.

Signal is the same like first time no problem.
Simply it doesn't connect 3G or H/H+ in a building connect EDGE.
I guess the only way to know for sure would be to buy another replacement.
Anyone thinkin something else?

S7 Edge freeze/crash

Hi everyone.
I am having a big problem with my phone, and since I messed up my warranty by rooting my phone, I am gonna try to find help here, and I really hope someone knows how to fix this issue.
So I got my S7 Edge this summer straight out of the box and it was working perfect. A couple of months after that it started freezing and restarting once every week or so, but I didnt think much of it. Slowly it was doing that more and more, until the point where the screen would freeze and the phone would restart 5 times a day. Shortly after it got stuck in a bootloop. I went to the store I bought it from but since a had a small scratch on the screen they wouldnt repair it without me paying for the screen change. Since it was a lot of money I tried to repair my phone at home by rooting my phone and installing a stock firmware. That didnt work so I installed a custom rom, that worked for a day but then it got back in the bootloop. Now I cant even be in TWRP without it freezing and restarting. My question to you guys is, has anyone had this issue (I hope not because its the worst) and is there any chance I could fix this myself?
I found this picture on google that resembles how my phone looks when it freezes/crashes. It gets these small pixel on the screen, not on the whole screen like in this picture, just on parts of the screen and on different parts everytime.

I have exactly the same problem. I think is somehow power related. Happens more frequently when phone is plugged in or when there's an increase in power consumption...
Is there a fix for it? I am having the same problem.
I found out that is the EMMC and the only fix is motherboard replacement... SAD

I guess you are right since the crashes were more frequent when I had a memory card in the slot. I thought that maybe my memory card was incompatible. But the eMMC seems to be the problem

Canadian SM-G935W8 LTE Hardware Issue

Hello, I own the SM935W8 variant of the S7 Edge, bought directly from Samsung in Canada. Recently, I needed to do a capacitor/charge port replacement due to a torn ribbon cable. This is the module:

After restarting, I lost all LTE reception. I saw the LTE statusbar icon flicker a couple times with very low bars, then it disappeared, never to be seen again. It's been a couple weeks. It was working fine immediately before. I'm almost certain it's a hardware issue incurred upon disassembly/reassembly. My phone has been opened more than ten times, owing to screen and camera issues. Lots of little parts to remove, maybe something wore. I already tried reseating all the hardware. I'm going to buy replacement coaxial antennae cables, because I'm thinking I may have bent a pin in one of them. This is the part:
However, I have a variant where the antenna doesn't go like that. Instead of 3 cables (right side, red/white/blueish), I have only two (left side, blue/white, partially obscured by bottom black piece). Note the lack of third, uppermost coaxial cable. Not a lot of documentation on these differences. The cables come for sale in either groups of 2 or 3.
In case replacing these cables doesn't work, what could the problem be? Does anyone know of any hardware part that, if broken, would cause loss of 4G signal specifically?
How about this part? Some websites simply call these pieces "motherboard cover", but other websites call it "antenna":
See here for website referring to these three pieces as "antennae". They do contain some pseudocircuitry that looks like it could contribute to cell reception. Since they're not super expensive, and I had problems making them fit back together 100% immediately before I lost the signal, I wonder if I should just replace them all too?
The only other thing of note is that I stripped one of the 15+ screw holes battening down the 3 black cover/"antenna" pieces that go over the hardware, hence I'm operating without one screw. The only feasible way this could contribute to the problem is if a certain amount of tension is required to keep some metal contacts together. It seems unlikely, but that's another reason to replace the black pieces.
I really don't think it's software related, although I haven't yet tried a factory reset or different ROM, kernel, or modem. I did try to see if it has anything to do with the APN settings, but sadly it didn't. I wonder what else it could be? Thanks for any guidance.
