I apologize in advance for the title, seems confusing but i'm unsure how to word it better.
We Share an A501 at home for a few apps and games.
Unfortunately all my info is in there and since Android doesn't support multiple users I thought a good way of doing this would be to use an alternate lockscreen (Like Widget locker) add a few widgets and apps in the lockscreen for everyone to use.
But you need to enter a password or pin to enter the device completely.
I've tried doing this with widget locker, but the problem is when I start an app from the lockscreen shortcut I get the Pattern prompt.
Any idea whether this is feasible?
Thanks
There's an app called seal that puts a password on individual apps. You can have a standard lockscreen, and just protect the apps you don't want anyone using.
probably would be a lot of hassle as I'd need to protect 10+ apps and have to type the password myself everytime.

It's actually not that bad. I use it to prevent my kids from opening bank apps and other non-games. I have it set up to prompt me for a pattern not an actual password. Try it!
When you enter the password for an app any other protected app can be run within X time. after that you have to put the password in again.
I use this on my cell phone.I lock SMS sunk and a wifi tether app.so that when my son uses my cell I still get my textessages he tries to turn it off so my tablet will not get his text.teenagers grrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Basically I just want to use Tasker to turn on a PIN lock when I'm not connected to my home wifi. I've tried it multiple ways - using the keyguard on/off built into tasker, using the secure settings plugin, etc. I can't get it to work. Is there something I'm missing here? Does the Nexus 7 have problems with this function? Any tips would be appreciated, thanks!

It turns out that Android is no longer allowing applications to lock / unlock screen, this is a security feature (even Tasker has this info somewhere in the documentation). The way Tasker currently turns off the screen lock is by some messy work around. The closest I got to having this feature working on ICS and later on JB 4.1.1 was that it was working as expected most of the time, but whenever the screen lock was switched off by Tasker and I clicked on any notification in the notification bar, the screen would get locked and keep locking itself from then on. This is really annoying and makes this feature pretty messy and useless. So I finally resolved to setting the phone to lock automatically after a long period (eg. 30 mins), which is good enough when I'm at home. That way the chances are that if I forget to lock the phone and loose it, it will lock itself after 30 mins. I also created a shortcut on the screen (using Secure Settings plugin) to lock the phone manually whenever I remember about locking it. I doubt there is currently a better way of doing that.
Hi everyone,
I have a rooted Nexus 4 running Paranoid Android 3.6, CWM backup and I have a question concerning tasker. I am having a problem with the lock screen and hoping I can get some help. I have it set up as a pin # and I'm using a profile on tasker that disables the lock screen when I'm connected to my home wi-fi; however, sometimes it gets buggy, and it changes the lock screen from pin to slide in the settings menu. I'm using secure settings to disable the pin and keyguard. I even tried to disable the lock screen in the settings menu to see if possibly secure settings will override it, but it doesn't work. Any ideas?
Profile set as follows: when wi-fi connected to my ssd: secure settings 'clear password/wait for unlock; secure settings keyguard disabled; end task secure settings keyguard enabled, set pin.
Can anyone help me with this setup on Tasker Wiki? Basically the same concept, but they are using variables. I have already downloaded the file, but it's an XML document....how do I install this? Thanks for any help! Since I can't post any external links yet, all I can really do is post this and hope someone can help me out. The website is tasker.wikidot - dot com and the profile is under 'simple' LOCK Enable/disable PIN lock with Wifi connection or Car Mode
On my Note-2 (Android 4.1.2) I had two apps that worked properly to toggle (disable/re-enable) the Lock-Screen function. They are [SwitchPro Widget] and [Turn Off the Screen by Protoport]. This was handy: I would disable the security feature when I was safely at home, but enable it when I would go out to public places.
Sadly, neither of these work on the Note-3 (Android 4.3). I suspect the newer Android version prevents an App from disabling the Lock-Screen.
Does anyone know of an App that can toggle the Lock-Screen state on the Note-3 (Android 4.3)?
I have never been able to reliably do this with any app, even with Root access. In the end, I used Llama to set the password (or PIN) to empty when at home. That way I get a 'swipe' screen only. When out, I get a PIN. In my case, I even set it to something you just cannot set using Android, so it is even more secure (I believe).
Not ideal, but it works very reliably, and even without root.

I use an app called automagic for it. It's also possible to disable the swipe to unlock screen which I do while connected to my car (Bluetooth)

Your mentioned app, "No Lock, by BoD" doesn't work on Android 4.3. That app hasn't been updated since Sep 2011.

OK, I installed it again just now. Nope, it doesn't work "properly".
It does install. It does run and it does show the toggled states for the widget. I attempt to toggle it, then the widget shows the change. But, the Lock-Screen state remains in its pre-existing state.
In my case, I have Lock-Screen set for Pattern Lock. The setting also has the Lock-Screen (Pattern Lock) appear only if the screen is off for longer than, say 5 seconds. This Android feature works properly, despite the App. The Pattern Lock is not required when I power off-then-on in under the assigned time of 5 seconds. However, the Pattern Lock always appears after the assigned time, regardless of the use of this App.
What I want is the App to disable Pattern Lock while I am at home.
I notice that the App does not appear in the Android permissions, "Device Administrators". Then again, it doesn't show up on my Note-2 installation either, even though the App works on that device.
I would appreciate it if you can give me some insight on how I can get this App to work on my Note-3 ....
Thanks.
Further testing ...
The App (No Lock) does work in one condition: If the Lock-Screen state is set for Swipe-Lock, then the App works properly to enable/disable it.
However, when the Lock-Screen state is set for Pattern-Lock, then the App fails to truly enable/disable it. However, the App's widget does show an indicated change of state (it shows either pad lock open or closed) - but this is an illusion only.

Yeah i just use it to totally Disable the Lock Screen , which it does for me with no issues , i never used any pin or pattern unlock , i did however see something mentioned about that when youu hit help after you hit the menu key , anyway sorry this didn't work for you , but i must thankyou for this thread because it tottaly works for me .....:good:
I use tasker for stuff like this. It works together with secure settings. My home zone is set up to work with cell tower id's. This works for me as my work place is far enough away. In Tasker (or llama or automagic or automateit pro) you can select secure settings as a plugin task. You then just select in secure settings what you want to toggle (swipe, pin or pattern). Some of them require root, though.
Has anyone used Tasker with SDMaid to check for when the Scan button changes to Clean to allow for quick input tap.
Looking to automate this and a few other apps and I'm having no luck getting a way around wait commands.
