[REQUEST] Touchwiz camera app on cyanogenmod - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
It seems possible to have the touchwiz camera app working on cyanogenmod.
I saw a lot of forum posts about it and almost everybody says that's not possible...
But I saw this thread :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...t-gs3-touchwiz-camera-app-aosp-4-2-2-t2370869
It seems possible then ! Can someone do the same for i9506 cyanogenmod 12 lollipop ?
Coz I love cyanogenmod and I love the samsung stock camera app that takes really good photos...
Thank you

+1

I'm sure it will be pain in the ass, but even on stock rom I'm using A Better Camera app.

Replace Non Sense ROM camera with SenseUI Camera?

Hey Dev's, can ya answer me this?
Why does SenseUI have a different camera app then non SenseUI ROM's? At least that's what I've noticed with Cyan's latest ROM, and his 1.6 ROM. I like the camera in the SenseUI ROM's, but really want to stick with Cyan's 2.1 ROM. Can the camera app be replaced? If so can any Dev provide some guidance?
If your new topic ends in a question mark then 99.9% of the time it needs to be in General because it has nothing to do with developing a rom itself.

The customized apps in HTC Sense builds are closely tied in to HTC's framework. So it would take a hell of a lot of work to 'port' the camera app over and making sure all it's dependencies are intact. It's not a copy and paste job.
However HTC's camera app was ported to Cyan's 1.6 builds before the whole Google ****storm went down, but that requires a really old ROM that I doubt you'll be able to find. Anyway, Google's Camera app from 2.1 surpasses it anyway.

The current camera in Cyan's 2.1 build is crap, can't zoom, can't adjust brightness levels, all it has are some filters and some white balance. I'd really like zoom and brightness controls. Any suggestions?

I was saying that Google's camera from 2.1 is better than the HTC camera from 1.6...
The only thing I can suggest is running a Sense ROM w/o Sense.
Ahhh...gotcha Yah, the 1.6 camera was pretty bad. I've been pretty spoiled with Android, I ran 1.5 for about a day, 1.6 for another day, and have been on 2.x ever since. LoL I used a 2.0 ROM for the longest time, but am really liking Cyan's 2.1, except this camera thing. Damn, I don't wanna move to Sense....I really like this ROM!

Yup, it sounds awesome, can't wait to get my magic in a couple of weeks time. Definitely flashing it the second I root it. And I agree, Sense sucks >.<

[Verdict 10/11/11] MIUI vs Samsung ROMs (Non ASOP ones)

Alright after a week of testing. Heres the rundown.
Stock Features you will miss:
Enhanced Contacts.
Motion Gestures.
HW Accelerated Browser
The Cam. MIUI isnt as good.
Battery life.
MIUI features you will miss if you're hooked:
Firewall
Guard
App lock
Themes
UI. duh.
Elegance.
Overall verdict is wait a bit. MIUI can be better. The MIUI contacts isnt good either.
Oh and Stock Cam vs MIUI Cam.. whats better?
Use skifta instead of allshare and wi fi file explorer instead of kies.
Tw camera is better.

I think he meant touch wizard in TW camera. I would like this camera the hw accerated browser and tv out support in a miui hybrid rom.

There has to be some Pros and Cons in AOSP ROMs over Stock ROMs. Customisations, speedy UI etc are better but on the other hand there are some simple yet impotent things aren't available or buggy! Why would one buy Samsung on first place and then suddenly they want to get rid of Samsung junk? A little bit of iOS, little bit of Android, I hate it anyway.
I have frozen literally everything all the Samsung bloatware that can be frozen, i think ive used Kies like once, it's a crock of sh*t anyway buggy as hell, allshare is a serious battery drainer too, why do people still use this rubbish then complain about serious battery drainage?
I love all MIUI stuff but I dislike the battery draining, camera is not good and video playback is so poor 'cause Hw aceleration is not working... Ignoring that, I prefer a lot this even over the perfect stock rom, 'cause I can personalize everything.
I've had a look and play with miui and cm7 nightly #99 lately.
Still like Samsung's roms better. To me they just seem more polished. Camera, calendar, etc, add jkay mods in there too.
Also find music sounds better for me on Samsung roms. That surprised me.
I pick cm7 over miui by a mile.
I must be missing something about miui because i didnt see anything to make me use it over Samsung or cm7.

I've tried CM7 and it's pretty nice especially with all of the themes and it is incredibly fast, however I love TouchWiz! Good Widgets, great camera app, smoothest launcher (IMO), and of course the best browser on any Android device.

About this, in MIUI you just have to press volume down+menu. Pretty easy IMO...
About everything else im with you, but let me add one more con about MIUI: Call recording doenst work. Not the stock app but neither "CallRecorder" app.
Since this is an important feature for me, I hope they manage to fixed it because I really like MIUI.
Every now and then, i fill that urge to try MIUI or Cyanogen, and after a day or two, i am back to Samsung ROMs ...
1.I've been modifying my framework and TW launcher since my i9000 and i have made my personal setup from it
2.Video codecs support, although recently i've found Dice player who looks extremely capable, even more than the default one
3.The small little things, like brightness swipe on status bar, call and message swipe on contacts and some others that doesn't come to mind right now
4.Like someone else stated, i also like the cohesion of the stock ROM
There are some things that always bothered me that Samsung doesn't implement in it's ROMs like percentage battery and BLN. I mean, those are are easy to do, add functionality and they blend well with stock ..., but luckily, this is Android and we can do it ourselves .

Now that MIUI have officially launched the S2 ROM. I tried it. I used to use the Litening ROM. So far there have been PROS and CONS. Some neat features that I love that I dont wanna go back. But there are some minor things which I can't live without either.
I will be updating this thread with Pro and Cons with you guys support.
Stock ROM features I miss:
The Motion Gestures. In Gallery and on Launcher. I think that was TouchWiz 4.0... right?
Kies and AllShare. I would love to have those two. SGS2 is the only Android device out there with DLNA support and would be a shame to cut it out. --There are alternatives. WifiFile Explorer. And Upnplay.
The easy screenshots like iOS.
Swype support. I sideloaded Swype but looks like I cant switch themes. And the Official Swype installer on MIUI says the resolution isn't supported. Weird. -- It works.
The Camera App. For some weird reason I think the MIUI Cam has flaws. -- Still looking for an alternative. Gonna checkout TW Camera.
And this may be stupid but MIUI doesnt show H+ icons. Just H. (Network icon) -- Think themes can fix this.
MIUI Features I love:
The torch. Pretty neat, you can use it by pressing the Home Button.
The UI and themes. Obvious
The Music App Lyrics
You can lock specific apps. And even hide them.
The Guard feature. Now I can give my phone to anyone w/o worrying bout them snooping.
Status: Back to Stock. MIUI has Battery drain issues.

There are alot of devices come with DLNA. Atrix for example.

and the only thing stock vs Miui i care is the internet browser in stock rom that comes with hardware accelerated. And also the long press edit for search is imssing in MIUI.
What I can't live without is the to out support via MHL missing from all aosp roms.

Samsung Galaxy S4 4.4 Cyanogenmod "stock" camera

Hi all
Currently got a Samsung i9505 running 4.4 via cyanogenmod 11....all in all its working really well, does anyone know if it's possible to install the "stock" s4 camera and if so where to get it. If not, can you suggest a free alternative that has the same/as good functionality?

Good question! I've been trying to find out the same thing... I've tried a bunch of camera apps from Google Play but nothing lives up to the Sammy camera. I wonder if we could install the official GPE camera apk? Or is that strictly not aosp?
I'm wondering the same thing for CM 10.2.
The issue with the camera in AOSP ROMS is that the stock TouchWiz camera has all kinds of proprietary software driving it. That software is built into different parts of the rom and absolutely requires the TouchWiz framework to run. (Which is also proprietary)
So there is no way to get the stock TW camera to run on any AOSP rom.
This means that any other app that is using the camera is using generic software to run the camera hardware. This leaves out the ability to do things that the TW software was specifically written to do like crisp auto focus and color depth and all those goodies that make the TW camera better. All that software was written specificly for the S4 hardware.
The Cyanogen camera or the Google stock camera is just an app using generic software not written specificly for this phone's camera hardware. That's no different than ANY other camera you can find on Google Play. They are ALL using generic software.
As a result, none of them are every going to be as crisp as the TouchWiz camera software. They almost all still take a really good picture with this phone, and many give various effects you might enjoy, but if you are looking for a downloadable camera app that takes a higher resolution, better focused picture than the CM camera, you're not going to find one that's substantially better.
It's the major drawback of AOSP roms on the S4. But unless you are a photog with a really decerning eye, you will eventually become used to the AOSP Camera quality. It's still better than most other phones on the market.
Thanks Skipjacks.
That post should be made a sticky as it applies to a whole load of ROMs and something that a lot of people want.
u got it
u just got lucky, there is Stock Camera for cm10.try this...it say's s3 but since cm uses the same app for recording media it won't make a differene , you will just have an additional camera icon that youi can choose to open your camera and switch whenever you like.

That is an excellent response. Already gave a thanks but would like to say it directly. I wish all the knowledgeable folks would answer this way.

Is There an AOSP Rom That Has A Camera That Is As Good As Stock?

I'm on CM11 nightlies with the S900W8 and the camera is terrible and is constantly blurry. The camera app doesn't change anything (included cam, Google Camera, A Better Camera, etc). The problem is the lack of optical stabilization (and stock resolutions).
Is there an AOSP rom which has a camera that produces results as good as stock? Or a TW Rom that uses Google Dialer?
I just don't want to go back to Touchwiz. I'm addicted to the Google Dialer with search and Google Dialer doesn't work on TouchWiz.
No there is no camera on aosp as good as tw. Had you bothered to search you'd of found your answer

[Q] Stock camera app ported to CM-based ROMs?

Hi all, I've been using the S5 for a while and while CM ROMs are great they still lack a proper camera app (the default google camera just doesn't do this camera justice, a lot of options are lacking). So is there any new update on a port of the official Samsung camera app to flash / install on CM ROMs? Thanks in advance!
Anyone?
this is a great question
i'd simply will not consider or try any stock like android for my 900f until they sort the camera out. the s5 camera may not be the best on the market anymore but it's still great on touchwiz.
Did you ever get an answer for this? I am looking for the same thing. Thanks.
