[Q] Bootloop after TWRP Backup Restore (LP back to KitKat) - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guyz,
I have a 910F.
I had the German Lollipop flashed via Odin, and now decided to go back to KitKat.
I did a full Nandroid backup of my original KitKat before going to Lolli, so I thought I just need to restore that backup :silly:
Since I restored now, I am stuck in boot loop. It shows the "Note 4 powered by Android screen", the vibrates 2 times and begins again.
I tried to restore again (everything except internal & external card), still the same result.
Of course did a wipe cache/dalvik.
The only way to shut it up is to remove the battery, which I did.
What happened here?
Thought this was going to be straight forward
Is there anything I can do or try except flashing Stock ROM with ODIN?

Ok, anyway, went now through Odin and my Note is working again

[Q] Restoring Note 3prior backup causes Red Verizon hang screen

Recently installed Hyperdrive Rom on my Verizon Note 3. SM-900V, NC4, running KK 4.4.2 prior to this installation.
Followed instructions re flashing back to NC2, Rom installed, everything is good,
BTW, as a part of the process installed SafeStrap, which provided a nice TWRP related recovery.
Did as suggested, a backup through recovery.
subsequently, made a couple of other changes, making a new backup through recovery each time. At present, there are three recoveries in backup.
Now comes the problem...........Decided to restore a prior backup, as instructed, did the full wipe using SS recovery, selected restore file desired, all went well and rebooted phone, only to have it hang once it reached the Bright Red Verizon screen.
Rebooted to recovery, followed the above procedure two other times on the remaining two backups. Same results.
Have wiped (Factory reset) each time in recovery with no apparent success.
Is this now being caused by the fact that I'm @ NC2, rather than NC4?
Would appreciate any suggestions as how I can get back to being able to restore and use any of the prior backups.
As a temporary measure, I went into recovery and reinstalled the Hyperdrive rom but would like to be able to go back in time if possible, and for no other reason to be able to understand just exactly what is causing this issue. Perhaps others have the same and have resolved in some way. A Google search shows that some are suggesting a return to factory settings, i.e. a full wipe through recovery, however I've done that with no success.
Another question, what happens if I also "wipe" the system files as well as dalvic, cache and data? Have hesitated to do that for fear of the unknown consequences

I am essentially having the same problem. I am currently running on Biggins ROM and that had me install a unified verision of the NC2 and NC4 kernels (I came from NC4 prior to flashing). I wanted to go back to stock root and flashed my backup from SS, everything went well so I restarted and just like you the phone just never went passed the Verizon logo screen. So I reinstalled the Biggins ROM and it works fine now but I also want to know what I have to do when I want to install other ROMS or simply go back to stock root.

Bootloop after CWM restore

My Nexsus 4 was at 5.0.1 updated OTA, I rooted and installed recovery and created a nandriod backup on the internal SD card. The phone was working fine for the most part except it was having issues with the screen going black when making a call and would not come out of that state. I wanted to revert back prior backup so I did a nandriod restore with CWM v6.0.4.7 and now my phone is in a bootloop. I've tried wipe data/factory reset, also tried wipe cache partition, but still stuck in bootloop. I'm not sure what else I can do to get out of this bootloop state/ Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Fixed it by using Nexus Root Tool Kit to flash stock image. Not sure what happened but I'm switching to TWRP. First time using CWM and things didn't work out well for me using it.

[Q] Problems restoring a backup of the stock rom

I recently made a backup of my stock rom using TWRP, I then flashed cyanogenmod 12.1 and due some random reboots I wanted to restore my stock rom.. I went into TWRP, did a wipe on everything but the external sd card then restored the backup of the samsung rom boot, data, system. When it booted it said it was upgrading all the android apps then starting apps then all the apps it tried to start crashed and was left with a blank screen. Is there something you have to do, to be able to restore a stock rom after flashing cyanogen?
No, that should have worked, but I have seen that crash black screen after clearing caches in TWRP, I pulled the battery, booted again and it was fine

Wierd, yeah I tried a couple of reboots and it always crashes once it starts apps after a restore.
Try flashing a stock ROM with ODIN to get the phone back to 100% stock
Then root and flash TWRP again and see if you can restore the backup then, if not, try restoring the backup without restoring DATA which is where the apps are
If that works, you could use Titanium Backup to restore the DATA partition iirc, see if you can get around it that way

Impossibly persistent problem even after reset

I have a Sprint Note 3 and I am having the dreaded "Unfortunately, the process android.process.media has stopped" problem.
I tried every single fix I found online. Even the stupid ones I knew wouldn't work. I finally caved and did a full wipe. Low and behold, on the very first setup screen the error message immediately popped up.
I am stock (whatever the latest version is) and rooted.
If factory reset doesn't work I don't know what else would work. That's usually the last recourse. Any suggestions? HELP!
Do I maybe need to re-flash the stock rom? If so, can someone please provide a link?
Suggest you ask in the SPRINT forum .

Yes, you need to re-flash stock ROM (search in updato). I'd also suggest you do a full DATA wipe with TWRP before and THEN flash stock ROM. Make sure you backup everything before anything.

Holy crap. I downloaded a stock ROM from Updato and my phone isn't bricked but I'm worse off now.
Somehow, nothing at all changed on my phone after I flashed the ROM. All my apps, data, screens, everything is still there. However, I lost root and I lost my custom recovery and I still have the problem I had before.
Two questions:
1) I still have a Nandroid backup of my rooted phone from before I flashed the stock ROM. Can I restore this Nandroid backup with the stock recovery?
2) If not I will install TWRP again. At that point can I just restore the rooted Nandroid and gain root again or do I have to root first and then restore the Nandroid?
What a mess. Why did everything stay the same after flashing the stock ROM? Is updato a legit website?

It's a legit website but you need to wipe everything before flashing stock ROM. The order would have been: Boot into TWRP -> Wipe/Factory reset -> Format Data -> Reboot to download mode -> Flash stock
Yes, you will have to re-install TWRP again and restore your nandroid backup.

Can't install stock ROM on Note 2 GT-N7100

Hi,
Am just a newbie in flashing roms and stuff like that. I have a note 2 GT-N7100 that was running 4.4.2. KitKat. I decicided to root the device and it was successful. Flash TWRP all went well. Then I tried flashing a custom ROM. I read about backups so I made a backup before flashing the ROM ViperOS 7.1.2. Flash Gapps and it was successful. But my Sim was not detected. So I retored backup and was back in 4.4.2. and the sim was detected. Unfortunately for me, my backup was in the internal memory of the phone. I thought the ViperOS was just faulty somehow not to have read my sim. So I tried a Marchmellow custom ROM from a site I can't remember. The phone got stock at Samsung Logo. I waited long time to no avail. Instead of clearing cache n dalvic I included internal memory and data. That was how I lost the back up. It took me to the stock recovery. I wipe data / factory reset. Still got stock at boot loop. I flashed TWRP via odin and it was successful. I flashed the viperOS it works but no Sim. I read through some threads and understood I lost my IMEI. I checked it was unknown. Baseband unknown. Tried a couple of proposed measures but to no avail. I thought the best thing was to go back to stock.
When I flash the stock, with odin it fail. I don't want to believe it can be cable or port issues since I flash TWRP successful. I tried flashfire. The flash completes bit it says "failed to mount cache. Invalid argument. Read that I have to mount and clear cache. Did all that with no success. For 5 days now. I really need help. Don't know what to do. Pls help me.
Thanks.
Am sorry for writing too much
