Rooted phone refuses to activate fully - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey there. I have a rooted Sprint Galaxy S5. Recently I realized the WiFi Hotspot I'm paying for just doesn't work. It enables. It allows devices to connect. It remains turned on. But any device that connects to my phone fails to achieve an Internet connection.
Yesterday I took my phone in to a Sprint representative who spent a valiant amount of time trying to fix my phone. Unfortunately when he entered ##72786#, the phone started an update process that completely screwed up my activation. I believe he later reprogrammed the phone, but the S5 is still obsessively trying to "finish" activating.

(fun fact: right now when I google "reporting firmware version to server ", nothing is returned. Maybe this'll put it on the map.)
When it's done trying, I see "firmware update not completed."
I've been seeing these messages since yesterday. And I hadn't no idea if any of this has to do with my device being rooted. Rooting is really all I've done, no ROMs or anything of that nature have been attempted... only SDFix and SELinux Mode Changer were run using it.
But I HAVE had activation woes before. When I enabled tethering on my phone, it took the better part of the day for sprint to reactivate it. And I was flying, so the process took several major cities before its success. And this was well before I rooted.
Tl;dr is it possible to use the stock Hotspot and reactivate your sprint phone while rooted with your device in a Custom status?

I'm probably just going to factory reset my phone. Is it safe to do when rooted?

Yeah, it's safe. I've never heard of such a problem so let us know if it works after f.resetting it

I did it via Samsung Kies... this seemed safest. I used to have negative experiences with custom ROMS and ultimately decided this was the best way to go forward.
P.S. Kies is like iTunes but it doesn't suck and it doesn't require a whole lot of authentication. I just learned this. I did a text message backup and restore and that worked great. An app backup was a lot more hit-and-miss; only the apps were backed up, not the data.

So you fixed it this way? ☺

Did Factory Reset fix the message="reporting firmware version to server ", as I'm considering doing it...Thank You...

I've recently come across a weird issue with both Galaxy S4 devices on my account. One is running a custom ROM (Goldeneye 18.1) and the other is stock rooted mf3. I have had no trouble accessing sites with either phone until today. i tried to get on icontact.com (email marketing site). I get the same error on both phones:

I've tried various browsers with the same basic results. I've tried the icontact app (which worked b4) and it claims that I'm not connected to the internet. I've tried on Wi-Fi and 4g lte. Other sites work fine. Friends and family have been able to connect to the same sites on their phones with no problem. I tried clearing cache/cookies/history. I tried formatting my phone and clean flashing this ROM. Nothing I've tried seems to work. I'm at a loss as to what this could be. Is there some simple thing that I'm overlooking?

I think GoldenEye has ad-blocking built-in. There should be a flashable zip to remove it. Or, you can directly edit /system/etc/hosts to remove the offending entries. I'm not sure why a stock rooted phone would be blocking it too. I can pull up the site fine on CM 11.
EDIT: You can remove all the lines from the hosts file except leave "127.0.0.1 localhost".
Thank you. I installed adfree on the stock rooted. I'm not sure why that site would be blocked by the hosts file but i guess it was. I'll edit it manually later.

[Q] Noob just softbricked a fresh S4

Since Sprint decided to pull the plug on WiMAX, I had to get rid of my trusty Evo 4G for a S4. Rooted with Odin, but followed an ancient guide on youtube to get tether unlocked without reading the comments. Now I'm stuck at a yellow "Sprint Spark" screen. Tried a hard reset (a few times), no change.
I think I need to flash a stock rom, but I have no clue which one I should use (and am fearing breaking more stuff). At this point, I just want to get the phone usable .. probably as stock as possible for now. The phone is brand new, assuming 4.4.2? Not sure if there's a way to check exactly what it was running. Recovery says KOT49H.L720VPUFNAE
Any advice, is much appreciated

Maybe, but 250 pages is a lot to sort through (no offense). Does a stock rom (no root) even exist?

[Q] Question regarding system updates to rooted s4 (stock rom)

Hello,
I have a Sprint Galaxy S4 (but you knew that.) that is currently running 4.4.2 Android. I have rooted my phone, but I never installed any roms, I am still using the stock touchwiz. For a while now, my phone has been telling me "system update downloaded" and wants me to install it.
Basically: How do I go about updating my phone without breaking something due to my root status. Should I un-root? Should I just hit update? I'm skeptical because I don't know much about fixing my phone if I accidentally brick it.
Alternatively, would I be better just getting a rom, like Cyanogen? I don't hate touchwiz as much as I probably should, haha.
Side note, I apologize if this has been raised before, I have been searching for answers to this since the first time my phone notified me of the update, between Google searches and searching this forum, I haven't found a topic that addresses my issue.

You coins just try a custom Touchwiz ROM like mine (Wicked X). You can't install the OTA on a rooted system, you need to unroot to take the OTA.

Brand new Nokia 6 is "uncertified"/no android pay?

Hi! I'm looking for a little help with my new Nokia 6.
I bought this phone on amazon, and everywhere else I looked said that it worked with Android Pay. (I got the version with amazon ads, because I figured I could always pay $50 to remove them later if I wanted).
So I got it up and running (On AT&T) and downloaded Android Pay and it tells me I can't use it on this phone because "My device is rooted, has an unlocked bootloader, or is running a custom ROM".
I just don't get it. Just to be clear this phone is right out of the box from that amazon link above, I didn't do a thing to it.
I contacted Nokia support (which was painful) and they told me that for some reason the phone isn't updating to the latest security version (It's security version is June 1st 2017). Google Play also says the phone is "uncertified". They have maintained radio silence since then.
I did a factory reset, and that didn't help anything.
Here are some screenshots in case I wasn't clear what I meant:

I hope this is the right place, Thanks for any help!
Hi again
I'll try and keep this post updated in case anyone else runs into this problem. I'm sending the phone off to Nokia repair. I debated just sending it back to Amazon, but I kind of want to ride this out, and I can always return it later if it can't be fixed.
Just factory reset it
And it will be OK.

Then see if OEM unlocking in Developer options is turned on, if it is, try turn it off and have the phone restarted.
Any luck? My wife is experiencing the same thing with her TA-1025

S7 Edge won't let me turn on the WiFI/WLAN

My S7 is completely new and was sent to me a couple of days ago. But after some usage, the phone turned off its WIFI/WLAN.
I thought it just was the phone going a bit crazy but after I wanted to turn my WIFI back on It wouldn't turn on.
But now without any Internet connection, I cannot install the latest updates that may have fixed it.
I also searched on google after a possible answer to my problem, but all I found is stuff that even a 12-year-old knows.
So now I am trying my luck here.
But I tried some off them including a Hard Reset, wiping the cache partition, etc.
None of the above worked for me.
Wiping the cache partition temporarily helped, as I was able to connect to a WIFI signal.
But it sadly ceased to work again.
So, I will send some Screenshots and that's it.
I hope you could help me or even other people that have this problem!
(I am German so the text "Sicherer Modus" translates into "Safe mode")

I'm new and do not know how to flash.

Still, appreciate your help.
I will try to flash it, since I can look up a easy YouTube tutorial.

Sorry, but I also tried this many times, with no succes.
What operating system? Latest Oreo?
If not can you update?
Sounds like potential faulty device. Can you take it back?

Yes, I have the latest Oreo installed.
The WiFi normally works fine and I have managed to even get it working for a whole day, but after I restarted my phone it wasn't working.
I think I can get it taken back, this is a pretty new phone since it came from the phone insurance company. I got it as a present from the previous owner after it came from the insurance company.

I hope your issue is resolved but looks like a buggy blcp. Have you tried flashing? Yes though bricking is always possible but if you follow a guide step to step it shouldn't happen. Goto sammobile, get latest firmware for your country and flash. This should solve your issue. Odin is tool made by samsung so flashing through is safe, if you follow all the steps.
