Best ROM for US Tmobile Xperia Z? - Xperia Z General

is there a good most recent working rom that works with T-Mobile network?. Specially the Network's LTE and the WIFI calling features Is possible. I just tried the Xistenze ROM, but reboots often and the signal is very slow. I understand that I might not be able to get the latest and greatest, but at least the most reliable rom that is able to work normally on T-Mobile's network.

im also looking for a good rom for locked BL Xperia z, my current wifi keeps flaking.

Rajeevs 4.4.4 is a good bet! Runs great on my Z!

i actually just installed eXistenZ Ultimate and i love it!
very smooth and the closets to xperia z3 os there is.
also my battery went from about 10hrs to 16hrs (medium usage, wifi on all day and music player for 3 hrs)
also wifi seems boosted now

z1c with CM11 April 4 build - highly recommended

I finally had a bit of time to install the latest build of CM11 on my z1c this weekend. I've previously tried a few different ROMS:
- Stock rooted Sony KK 4.4 - too many bugs, not usable for me
- Stock rooted Sony JB 4.3 - works fine, just very hard to go back to JB after using KK daily driver (Moto X) for so long
The current build of CM11 for the z1c (as of this writing, April 4th) is really, really solid! It feels the way KK 4.4.2 should, not the hybrid, buggy Sony version! I don't mind not having the "Sony" apps (Walkman, etc) since I'm used to stock KK. I haven't done enough testing yet with the camera, but apparently it supports full 20mp resolution. Sure, you lose Sony's camera UI but I'm ok with that. Along with GravityBox I was able to get my z1c to feel like my Moto X (well, except active notifications!).
The CM11 build lacks Sony's bugs (the ones I had run into involved everything sound related - notifications, alarm, video playback, etc).
I highly recommend this route for anyone who has unlocked their bootloader and wants a very stock look and feel without Sony's bugs!
What about battery? Can I expect the same battery performance as with stock kernel?

Unfortunately I didn't use it enough with the other ROM's to be able to make a comparison.
Thanks for the fast answer. Camera UI and battery are the two things keeping me from trying CM.

Well lets say, on avarage, how long does the battery last? To compare please provide screen on time (seen from battery in settings)
Thanks

I'll report back in a few days. I need to compare it to the same usage pattern I have on my Moto X.

I am with liquid smooth ROM and I have no problems with the battery. It gets me through the day with 40% remaining at the end of the day. This is with moderate to heavy usage: listening to music on bluetooth headphones, push notifications and a few hours browsing.

[INFO] Comments about last update 4.4.4 Xperia Z

Hi everyone!
Just got the 4.4.4 from Pc companion.
It seems ok! Fast and smoother than 4.4.2
Battery drain is just ok but was better on 4.3 version.
RAM is occuping a lot for some apps:
Settings ~140MB
Google keyboard ~50MB
Facebook -113MB
Google search 56MB
New xperia live wallpaper ~100MB !!!????
Do you notice the same or similiar things??
I still notice temperature is increasing easily when looking on web, facebook, youtube after a while.
I still think 4.3 version (.101) was the best for battery and less heating on back cover.
I also tought "Move to SD" option was coming but nothing!
How you doing with this new update???
Aosp its the best option for me
Sent from my C6603 using XDA Free mobile app
Notification sometimes is partially opened and there are still problems with music but less than was on 4.4.2. Performance ok
The lag is finally gone, the Phone is really smooth.
Battery life definetly improved
Google location battery issue is finally solved.
There are still sound problems, the sound lags from time to time.
Overall, very pleased with the update
It's butter than the 4.4.2 specially buttery life but I still prefer paranoid android
I don't know you guys but with 4.2.2 and 4.3 this phone was awesome but now I can see he doesn't like this s***
that much...
Notification bar is not always so smoother and temp is going up easily. Maybe I should try to flash with flashtool.
Then if nothing is better i'll go for Cyanogen or an old stock update.
Please tell what you think after days and if you find issues!
There is one pure aosp but not on xda due some blabla, pabx one. In cm11 rootcloack is not working anymore. Pabx rom is the fastest and stabe for me, combined with snaphdr the photo quality is the same like in sony rom.

Only Battery Performance have been changed for me . . .
Love This Update!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally Bluetooth works with car controls. Couldnt use my steering controls or phonebook since 4.1. Phone very fluid and fast.
Hey guys, I know it's not the right thread, but I have one quick question.
I'm about to unlock my BL and would like to install some custom rom, aosp or cm based. So can someone recommend me some, with a lot of features, like double tap to wake etc... Feel free to pm me if for some reasone it's inappropriate to post it here...
Help is very appreciated, thanks.
Is it just me or is the default white balance settings not that great in this update:?
I came from KMV from what I can say between AOSP and Sony Stock ROM is that stock rom no matter what will always have the best battery life but in terms of security fixes AOSP :3

So STOCK ROM are best for battery? I would like to try CM11 but battery life is very important for me. What you think?
Ok
I just flashed it today and after few minutes flashed other non stock ROM
It was disappointing... In other pages saying WIFI IMPROVED but it wasn't
I've faced a WiFi problems like dropping and no internet access while I'm actually connected. Same as other stock ROMs
The speed was great. Battery life was ok
But the WiFi is a huge problem for me. That's why I flashed custom ROM....

I dunno bro but my home WiFi is pretty weak. So I got drop outs but it's perfectly fine on custom ROMs
Maybe it's yes better than 4.4.2 but my home WiFi is weak and that's may be the reason
But I can say it's need little improvements

Google wallet tap and pay works on this update as HCE is finally enabled. I'm using it on a c6606 with the generic ES update on it.

I flashed the generic es version of the 4.4.4 update onto my wife's c6606. I had previously read that NXP HCE support was added into android after 4.4.2. When I opened up wallet, I was asked if I wanted to set up tap and pay. It now works, though I'm sure all the general wallet restrictions apply (us only...).

My thoughts on my new OnePlus X

Man this phone is beautiful. Size and build quality are A+ really good in the hands. Sound is surprisingly good for a single speaker. I also like the Oxygen OS as well. Call quality is good too. There are a few things though that would make this phone even better, and I bet if they had these features the phone would have sold 50% more than it did. They are:
1. LTE on all bands including 12 and 17
2. Dual WIFI 5 G
3. More Timely updates
4. Better Camera
They could make a Oneplus X SE version and have those features and charge say $279 Overall pleased with it.
There had to be few compromises. Yes the camera could have been better. But there is a version by sultanxda that enhances the camera. It is good.
Yet to buy this phone. Cannot wait*!
It is a very good phone but it is even more amazing once rooted and a custom rom flashed on it which you may or may not want to do yet. I think it may also be possible to unlock the locked LTE bands once rooted but am not sure.
I tried to put a custom ROM on it. Must have tried 8 or 9 of them. They would install fine but I would get no cellular data, I had no signal from T-Mobile. Finally just gave up and went back to stock and everything worked.

That's interesting..I'm still thinking of flashing a custom rom... For now I use stock oxygenos with bluspark kernel, rooted. I still try to add all funktions that are missing for me via xposed and apps but for one it's quite some work to do and I'm also concerned of additional battery drain. My cell phone carrier is T Mobile Austria.
I'm sure it was just me, user error some how I must have missed a step or something
Wow this is strange. I just went back to try and flash Exodux Rom and this time it worked. I have data and everything. I have no idea what I did different this time to get it to work.

Not to mention that you can do even more with the camera from Color OS
This is the best $250 you could spend on a device really. Its perfect. No performance drawbacks or anything like that. The only things I could ask for if they made a X^2 is a bigger battery and a better camera sensor... Maybe an 805 or 652 as well... and maybe 3.18 kernel sources... but hey, I'm happy.
Regarding 5ghz WiFi... That would be awesome and actually, with an internal mod, should be possible. But even with 2.4ghz I'm able to go a far distance away from home and still have a decent connection that I wouldn't have on any other device

Agree. I got the ceramic version, paid $300 (onyx version would have cost the same for my country) for 9 days now and I'm pleasantly surprised. 5ghz wifi and a bigger battery are the only 2 things missing for me.
A cm based rom, not overly bloated makes it perfect. OxygenOs itself is not perfect but after rooting, installing bluspark kernel, removing some google apps and using xposed modules it's great.
If one is used to have a custom rom flashed, I can only recommend the xposed module gravitybox..lets you greatly customize your rom.
Thinking of upgrading to this from my 2014 Moto G that I got before Chirstmas as an emergency purchase. It's lasting me fine and running a highly optimized stock ROM very well. But I really want something that has more under the hood. Especially in the RAM category. I'm not a super heavy user in terms of how many apps I run. (I try to keep whats running in the background to an absolute minimum) So having the 'latest and greatest' specs isn't really a concern for me.
My only concern is the lack of the popular LTE bands being that I live in the states. I've been living on HSPA+ for the past 4 months and really haven't had much to complain about. Anyone care to share how well it does on 3g and the like?

Yep been running this Rom for a day now and it's been really stable with amazing battery life!! Can't say anything about data or signal since I no longer use the phone on cellular (Sprint) but just to mess around with on Bluetooth and wifi it seems great! Charge my phone last night took it off when I left for work at 7am and checked when I got home from work at 8pm and still had 92% granted I don't have a data connection so that probably helps but even with wifi on it didn't hardly drain at all and performance is buttery smooth! Thanks AOKP DEVS!!
This rom is super fast, But iam unable to make or recieve phone calls, no network even tho its registered to o2-uk?
I am also having problems with phone calls. Mobile data is working. I will try one more and this time I will eject and reinsert the sim card.
This ROM has a special smooth scrolling and amazing battery life.
Very Best ROM , very smooth , better than cm14.1

14.1 is is stable as rock but the app starting is a little slow.

Unfortunately I had not checked , network not fixed when trying to make a call
Mobile network still not available on this Latest build, Hope for a fix soon, Nice rom

Unfortunately it boot loops with SIM in, no problem with SIM out. Looks like a nougat/Bell/Virgin sim card issue. Same with the CM 14.1 alpha.

It is better for me because it is stock frequency but as fast as 14.1 .
In 14.1 at least for the version 11/7 there is a delay between a tap and the start of apps or actions generally . I am sure they will fix it because they are awesome team .
For me the fastest ever ROM is Insertcoin + Elemenntal Repack 10+ smeejas booster v5 + performance mode. It is as fast as a pixel!
New build is up on AFH!
AOKP Nougat is now beta!
They fixed call ability. I am just trying it.
Pure turbocharged Nougat power!!!

Attached a screenshot from Uxbench app on playstore. I made the app myself. Its completely free.

Rolled back to 4.4.4

After many years away from KitKat (2 years?), and a long list of nuisances (5.0 had neverending problems with Xposed, 5.1.1, any version, would close an app out of a sudden, and put my back to a sluggish, slow slow loading Home Screen), i took the decision and go back in time, and reinstall the golden - to me - version of android for the Z1: 4.4.4.
And yes its working fast fast as it should be with so powerful insides.
I dont know whats the problem with the newer versions, its not about lack of power on behalf of the Z1. It feels like memory leaks.
The KitKat isnt much different than every other versions that came after it. Tbh, the whole design got nailed down during IceCream and got prettier and prettier, but its essentially the same alot of years now.
What did i miss from 5.1.1? Quiet Hours. But i downloaded an app that does exactly that. I didnt even bother to root or apply TWRP.
Just wanted a fast computer that can make phones, play media, surf the Internet, make use of VoIP. !
I prefer 5.1.1
Well I have swayed a few times back and forth with 4.4 and 5.1 on my Xperia Z1, I've researched and got to the point where I realized the 5.1 improved this device a lot
Pros:
1. The battery life got a lot better
2. Precise multi touch up to 10 fingers (and more maybe)
3. Design is awesome
Cons:
1. There is some bug with the microphone, when I switch to loudspeaker during a call and switch back to phone mode then the other party will not hear me, so I avoid clicking that "Loud" button
So as you can see, for me there are more pros than cons in the update so I stick with it
I cant argue the fact that for you the 5.1 is working perfectly. Sadly for me its the exact opposite, whether its rooted or unrooted.
The 4.4.4 gives me all the good things the newer versions should give me, sans the updated interface.
Kitkat has slight lag compared to 5.1
On 5.1.1. Greenify is all I ever need off of root. With a little bit of "headroom" thanks to Greenify, I actually have my Z1 clock limited at 1.037GHz. Not laggy and perfectly usable.
i m on 5.1.1 and rooted with custom stock based rom and i dont have any major probs and no lags...m using my phone continuously(camera, watching videos, listening music, internet browsing, downloading files.) and m getting 1 and half day decent battery life i.e very good battery life. if i start using phone little lesser i may get upto 2 days battery life...
İ use Xperia z1 (c6903)5.1.1 .three days ago i uploaded mx rom v8.5.0....Normally everything is very beautiful but battery performance very very bad.i watching movie and The battery draining quickly.example my charge is %35 but later 1 minute %0. My english bad sorry.last month i try 4.3 jb and 4.4.4 kitkat.battery performance is perfectly.i want to back 4.3 jb...
I remember buying a Z1 for €630 when they came out brand new. It was so fast (I had been using phones like the first galaxy mini and iphone 3gs). I noticed even though it's still fast on 5.1 it always felt like it was faster using the older firmware for some reason. I have a Galaxy S7 now but I still own a Z1 too because I think it's still a really good phone, even 3 years later. I'm wondering whether to use a custom rom on the z1 and if so I have no idea which one to choose. The Z1 is a lot better than the first Z in terms of speed and battery life and I think the phone was ahead of it's time when they made it. It was the biggest upgrade from Z to Z1 than any other new Sony phone that came out after that in my opinion. You'd still use a Z1 now but with a Z you'd complain that it's going slow or that the battery is terrible.
As I said though before going too far off topic, I always felt that the phone ran smoother on kitkat than it does on lollipop. I have no idea why, maybe it's the ram usage or the way it reminds me of when I first bought a Z1.
