Serious question: Why do you need to touch the 1mm sliver of the screen near the bezel? This isn't the middle of the screen we're talking about. This is on the very edge where there is no interactive media. Even if there was, your finger would still activate it unless you are suggesting that the interactive area is literally the size of the "dead" area, which is implausible. And, as a practical matter, in what circumstances do you find that the non-responsive gap has affected your usage of the phone? Clearly your thumb isn't the size of a pin-point, or maybe it is?
Not to mention, ever galaxy phone has had this since the SGS3.

This seems like a logical design decision to make for the Edge version, even if it weren't there in the past. It seems to me this is not a defect or bug, but an intended feature.
This is the biggest non-issue I have seen posted thus far. It's as if people are blindly overlooking the practical usage of such a thing in order to try to downsize the potential success of the S6. Up until this point, all the news regarding the S6 has been overwhelmingly positive minus a couple people moaning about the removal of expandable storage/removable battery. I guess someone had to try to break the positivity.
Sent from my SM-G900W8 using Tapatalk
If that's the only "technical fault" they can find on the S6, I'll be alright with that
2 main issues for me for me are the same as everyone: lack of SD slot and removable battery. They are apparently both solved by the fact that:
- there is a 128gb version (will only take a lot of time to copy all my stuff into the internal storage at first, can live with that)
- fast charging (not as easy as replace the battery, but once again, can live with it)

The back is removeable... just not like you would normally think by past Sammy devices. See here.
The edge gap for touch input has been present on phones from at least 2010 and also happens on my HTC so they're making a mountain out of a non-issue and probable design decision to prevent accidental touch input when cupping the phone.
Digitizer testing is incomplete at best in the said story. Thread closed to avoid future OT Discussions.

Well, been using my GS3 for about 4 days now and I must say that I am somewhat underwhelmed by it so far. The jump between my EVO to the Epic 4G Touch was much greater than that from the E4GT to the GS3 (as expected). However, there are 3 gripes that I just bothering me more than I initially thought they would:
1. Camera - The Epic 4G Touch's picture quality is light-years ahead than that of the GS3. This is really unacceptable for a flagship device. Sure, the shutter speed is quite fast, but the quality is just not there. Part of the reason I skipped over the Galaxy Nexus was the camera inferiority to the E4GT and here I am with the GS3. The HTC EVO LTE at the store seemed to take amazing pictures. Haven't compared them side-by-side, but I feel I'll be more disappointed if I do.
2. The power button - I don't see a lot of people complaining about this, but I'm having a difficult time adjusting to the power button. The curved bezel in conjunction with the flushness of the button makes it hard to find/press it most of the time. Even though it feels quite clickable, it takes some digging around every time I need to use it. I'm hoping that the Slim Case I ordered will help with this as the cutouts will guide me better. It's a small gripe, I know, but it's enough to annoy me.
3. Speed - I know that this phone will smoke most of the competition, including the E4GT, but I'm not really blown-away by it. Once the apps are opened (which I admit to being quite fast), it seems to take longer for the information to download and appear (Play Store, Facebook, etc). I don't know if it's the connection or the phone itself. Never had this issue with the previous phone.
That's about it really. I know it's nothing major, but it's enough to taint my experiences. I'll give it another week before I decide what to do with it. But I'm really leaning towards the HTC EVO LTE (even though I find it hideous) or just going with a Galaxy Nexus (and not have to worry about future upgrades, etc).
Sorry about the rant... just had to let it out.
Speed -
You don't feel smoothness , and fast information because android
The problem is not the device , its the software
Android is still "buggy" , i have Asus Prime Tegra 3 -and i dont feel smoothness
Maybe next android version will be more smoother and faster
Just return it and stop complaining

The power button on mine is not quite right too, it is less flushed against the bezel compared to the volume rocker and creaks at the touch, it also feels spongy when pushed. That's not enough to slate the phone though because I know the capabilities of this beast hence I'm waiting for my exchange. If yours is the same ill advise you to do the same.

You're using the Sprint version right? If so, why are you posting in the international GT-I9300 forum?
Plus, it's already been quoted in several reviews that the US versions have a slight lag during usage that the international version does not. Just return the phone and move on.
@Stea1thmode: Thanks bud! Will do!
@everyone else: Take your meds and learn to deal with criticism.
This phone was really smooth for me. Bur my major problem is not being able to get into download mode.
The screen is also mediocre. =/ Wondering if I should have bought LG Optimus 4x instead, I only picked this phone for the custom firmwares..
There's nothing worse than having an S3 on Sprint. It's bad enough that you have to deal with the inferior CPU, but also the non-existent LTE network that is set to debut sometime between now and when hell freezes over.
why do US variant owners come to the international section to B!TCH and complain?????

Ha ha same on mine lol
There should be enough batter left at the end of the day for some fish and chips.
Well spotted!
The thing that annoys the most with this phone is the Norwegian translations, especially the info screens. Now, I work as a proof reader and translator, so it might tick me off more than anyone, but a monkey with Google translate could have done it better. It's horrendous. Can't believe how that slipped through.

While these are pretty small and insignificant things, I definitely feel manufacturers should pay more attention to things like translations and typos.
I can guarantee that when you buy an Apple (for example) device, everything has been translated with greater care and attention to detail, and also I would be very surprised to find typos in the Macbook Pro documentation, for example.
Of course everyone makes mistakes, I'm sure Apple has as well. But I mean that all these little things work together, it all matters, and details are indeed important. This is something that a manufacturer like Apple seems to understand, while many others don't.
I agree with the above. So many underestimate the effect correct use of language has. Not only does it make the sender look unprofessional and not very serious, but the whole notion of downgrading the importance of the tool upon which the whole concept of communicating with any media is built, is just absurd.

Probably an early firmware. That amused me anyway.
Someone discovered this very early after its release.
Mines has "battery" tho. I guess was corrected on the last update.
Another typo in the CPU power saving.. They have used "effect" instead of affect.

Correct me if I am wrong, I am not a native speaker of the English language, but I still think it should be "It will not affect normal usage" instead of "It will not effect normal usage". I'm sure native speakers will corroborate!

Couldn't agree with you more there. Although I'm not a great fan of Apple products, I do appreciate their attention to detail. I just feel as though they care about the user experience a little bit more than, say, Samsung etc. That being said I'm not particularly complaining about the Galaxy Note 2. So far I've found it absolutely brilliant...so brilliant, in fact, I'm willing to overlook small niggles like these. But hey, I was just curious....

Actually "Color" is american and "colour" is british based.
And I agree with the previous post that apple are some perfectionist mother-efers. In weird areas tho; dont know if the absence of those details would have hinder in their success. For intance, apple has a subsidiary that does all the packaging, and the package material, presentation and methodology passes thru the usual Apple QC tests.

yes, the only flaw.
Why people buy phones with disgustingly crap batteries? Because manufacturers make them and people just accept it?
I am sick of hearing about phones weights differences in few grams, (our phone is thinner by 1 mm!!! -how sad) , about screens quality, about processors speeds, etc, and on.. Just because this is where all attention is?
What is use of it all if then users have to carry chargers wherever they go, they have to disable network modes, tweak performance, buy and run monitoring softwear, a lots of hassle JUST BECAUSE those manufacturers are jerks! Like there is problem to give proper large battery option to chose and we will see how market reacts?
I got phone from China with larger battery than you can get on any European market and I am finally happy, I don't worry about anything anymore.
On purpose I set everything to look nice, bright, run fast and never worry about any tweaks unless I suspect unhappiness from performance being somehow compromised, I do play games, I do use internet, I do stream and do other things without fear of not having more power for a call I may need to make. At end of day I have still 50% which will last next day easily.
BATTERY IS CRUCIAL PART OF THE PHONE. MUST NOT BE REDUCED IN PERFORMANCE IN ANY WAY (reducing size).
This is why we have smartphones to do many things quickly at any time instead switch all those cool features off, like everyday life was emergency situation for saving battery -ON DAILY BASIS?
P.S. some brands thinks I will carry second battery with me like I have a pocket and good will to open my phone and swap batteries??? really??? or taking ugly external USB-battery, swinging on cable while I am using my phone or looking ugly like second half of nadset to damage my USB socket with a time and have a patience to keep it charged -like a second device?
How ridiculous...
Battery performance actually did advance with processing technology over the years. It's not just sheer capacity that tripled, but efficiency became better. A top-end phone of today easily has 10 times more performance than a smartphone of 4 years back with so much bigger and higher-res screen not to mention extra antennas and extra ongoing processes, yet when HW/SW is properly balanced, it can last the same full day. Samsung and HTC are doing it right lately while Apple is particularly power-efficient, to expect anything more there has to be a battery tech revolution.
Much bigger manufacturer BS is storage capacity. A 64GB module hardly costs more than $20 for them and all gadgets should start with that going up to 256GB, but at least HTC is skipping the 16GB variant and you get a healthy space for starting price. You see they can't really put significantly bigger battery in a phone where they could put more storage in it, they just don't want to.
Are you specifically moaning about the HTC one or just phones in general? The one, in reviews, has been shown to perform admirably.

Along with battery, everything moved on and needs more resources.
Still, batteries could give us more freedom, especially now, when 4G is in use.
Their size should not be reduced.

Ok !
Initially I was trying to ignore the battery life and how long it takes to charge haha..
But you can't deny, it's about the average. But when you consider the screen and how the phone works, you can't expect an extra day's worth out of nowhere..
If this and the S4 are considered the best options for smartphones right now and the S4 really does gets a few more standby hours, I would still go with the HTC One.
I was thinking about this after playing with a friends S4... yeah its a slick device but nothing on the market feels as good as the One.

Whilst typically I can't help but say every argument has 2 sides, and it's foolish to say the HTC One doesn't have any floors, the fact that this device and similar ones exist certainly deserves a moment of appreciation.
I remember when I was 11, and I spent a full week optimizing what at the time was a relatively well maintained machine and removing loads of crap, overclocking my CPU + graphics, disabling literally everything and eventually I had enough space to install the just-released GTA3 on my computer. The installation itself felt like it took around an hour. Even on the lowest graphics settings I managed just to get 15fps and boy did it make my computer run hot!
Now I have a HTC One. Just one of it's cores is capable of 5 times more processing power than my crappy little AMD Duron had. Today I installed GTA3 on it in a matter of minutes and was playing it maximum settings at a frame rate that made it smooth as butter. And to top it all off, I can control every remote controlled device in my house with it AND it fits in my pocket.
On a forum where people are inherently pointing out every little area for improvement to get the best from their devices, I agree with OP that we should all take a minute to sit back and reflect on the awesomeness of the technology we're all in possession of right now.
We're living in the future.
Hoverboards and holodecks can't be that far away now.

Hi! My Note didn't survive switching casing. I switched from the original fake skin plastic cover into a s view cover! And the plastic cover ripped some of the plastic under the volume buttons! Also, while trying a casing for my Note! The buttons became really loose! Would this be under warranty or hardware failure?

Err potentially they may see it as accidental damage. But they may be nice enough to fix/replace still.
Since the phone is so new it's quite irritating that the build quality isn't so good as expected! I have carrier warranty so Knox doesn't mean anything right? It's uncomfortable to have it in my hand since the volume rocker is sharp..

Carrier's don't care about KNOX, chances are your carrier will fix/replace for you without issues. Most tend to do so
I have a s-view case and it didn't do any damage to my phone. I took it off a couple of times and put it back on and my phone still perfect.
Sent from Note 3 SM-N9005
I don't have s-view, but I had used couple cheap copies which mount the same way and I imagine either the plastic was already cracked/ weakened or somehow you pressed way too hard on one side, before aligning it properly. At this point IMO you have no choice but just see what they say, or you want to wait to see if there is Knox reset fix if and when?
Samsung seriously needs to stop it's plasticstuff. asking my carrier for a repair/replacement tomorrow! First Samsung phone! and maybe last. since it's bloated with tons of stuff.. might sell this one if i get it repaired and buy the S5!

Plastic is better for signal, and impact as it can absorb more, metal will dent it also loses its sheen eventually (The back of iphones for example will get ugly quick) . Seems that it was probably a bad phone that was already stressed in that spot. Ive had a note 2 come with a broken battery cover and carrier switched it, also no phone really shines without custom roms but bloatwise you can use the N3 de-bloat script and pick and choose what you want to keep.
Carrier will hand you a working device no problem

This just happened to my Note 3. The plastic under the volume button just cracked and it is hanging out. I baby this thing and have had it since earlier this year. Coming from iPhones (durability ftw) - this is a huge disappointment. It's spent most of its life in a case too... Really disappointed about this.
