A few days ago I saw a thread of a guy talking about how he had tripped his Knox counter and couldn't use his Allshare Cast Hub thing. So I'm considering going the easy way and tripping Knox so that it's possible to flash stuff without the use of a computer.
But what else can't I use aside from the Allshare Cast Hub thing?
Knox and warranty
Allstars cast hub thing should have nothing to do with this... Let me see the thread... Link pls

I haven't been able to get it running. There's a setup wizard in /system/apps/ but it doesn't seem to do anything other than reinstall what's already there. Inside the .apk are a couple of link setup apps. When I ran them, Lookout was triggered. No joy, so far.

It's not like on Note III. Here it is called "privacy mode", and it's triggered with "Settings...privacy mode". It's good to set fingerprints prior first use.
Working quite different, but I like this way.
Privacy mode is not working if You choose Art instead of Dalvik.
Sorry for my english...
is not the same.
KNOX is for business, secure mail, more business applications, etc.
Bump, does anyone know where is knox? I've been using s5 only a few days (s2 before that)... so I'm pretty new to this knox thing, but so far that I've been reading and researching... private mode isn't knox since all private mode does is hide your content... knox is suppose to make a new "layer" basicly a new phone much like dual-boot... or am I mistaken? if I'm not mistaken, then where is knox? I just booted to download mode and there is atleast knox counter... but I cant find the app anywhere...
EDIT: just went to samsung page, and samsung galaxy s5 isn't listed as supported for knox... then why is there knox counter? is it going to support it in future? if so does this mean that if I flash now the counter will not be tripped?

depends on your carrier
ATT disabled Knox for their phones, check with yours. I hear you can side-load it and it still works but haven't tried. google it.

I will confirm with my carrier tomorrow (I doubt it's them, living in a country where there isn't much restrictions in term of technology), but can anyone confirm that the sm-g900f variant do have knox? (I'm on the latest stock rom)

Hi all. İ wonder is there a way to root without tripping knox like Towelroot etc? I don't want to trip knox counter...
Not possible on any Note 4 variant.

There is a way you could try but the last time I checked it wasn't supported for the Galaxy Note 4's. It's an app that roots your phone by literally The Click (Tap) of a Button. It's called Towel Root by geohot. You can find it here.
Try it out and let me know if it works. Hope this helped.
It takes longer to type "Thanks" than to press the button. Make your life easier
i guess it does not support anything exept snapdragon
Well, that's the best you can get at the moment. Sorry. I too was trying to root without tripping knox counter but really it doesn't matter that much. I mean I've never destroyed a phone in any way to need a replacement or damage it in any unrecoverable way that I would have to take it to my Service Provider to fix it (plus they don't have a clue about phones at MTN, I don't know how they hire those people when they can't even explain how to edit your Network Settings).

I tried Towelroot and it fails.
Towelroot used an exploit to gain root without tripping Knox. That exploit was also a security vulnerability and was fixed by Samsung on the Note 3 and S5 later software updates. The Note 4 and S6 come with that fix built-in and towelroot will not work. Which is a good thing because the same exploit could be used by a third party to gain FULL access to your phone.
Hello,
I was wondering if the application "kingroot" is a good and trustable option to trust my device?
I also saw a site "oneclickroot.com" that looked intresting but after research I saw it's not trustable that they are out of your money.
Or what would you guys advice me?
It's not for intalling roms and so on. Just for other options that I want to root my device.
Greetings
CF-Auto-Root. It's the only way to go. And you can't without a PC.
ah owkey, and "kingroot" is unsafe then?
Oh and what about unrooting the device is that also possible with cf auto root?
And what about towelroot??

Towelroot will simply not work on 5.0 (will reboot the phone after a while from clicking "make it ra1n" but no root access delivered)
For 4.4 you need GNF1 or older kernel for it to work - see HERE if you have newer version but still KK.
Ah ok and kingroot is also no option?
I m searching for the easyest way.
And is your way also possible to unroot?
The easiest way is CF-Autoroot, period. Flash it with the Odin software, let it deliver its payload, and you're done. If you want to unroot afterward, simply uninstall SuperSU.
Ah owkey so it's possible to unroot the device.
Will my warranty then not be rooted.
It's about galaxy s4
Some people talk about "trig Knox flag to 0x1?"
What is that???
Is it something with the warranty???
Because I don't want that my warranty is woided.
If I use your method and I must remove it with time the root.
Is this the application that I will need to reset the trig knox flag to 0x0 ???

I believe it was @zelendel who brought this up on another thread, but he asks people what root is and why they need it. Since you're clearly new at this, I'm taking a page from his book.
1. What is root?
2. Why do you need root?
If you cannot answer both questions, you have no business nor need of rooting your S4. That said, there is an entire thread on Knox in the General forum that you should be reading if you want to know more. However, regardless of the methods used, if you root the Knox flag will be tripped. Once tripped, it stays tripped. There is no way to reset it, period.

Knox is some kind of security crap from Samsung. You can find more about it in the s4 general section or by googling it.
Knox default status is 0x0.
Tripping knox to 0x1 will voind your warranty.
1. rooting the the device is to have acces to the root of the phone so you can do more with your phone.
2. I want to root it because I want to have following options enabled at my phone.
* Moving programs to my sd card (not possible anymore without rooting)
* More control over 3G/4G/Wifi/Gps (from my computer) when phone is lost
* Set a security code on the phone factory reset (with avast root edition)
* Using less battery to let greenpower auto disable the 3G or wifi and so on.
At the moment this are the most important things for me.
Flashing roms and so on doesn't intrest me now , because everything is working fine.

Fantastic. The reason I asked was to get you to slow down a bit and think about what you're doing. Your previous posts in the thread were all over the place and gave the impression that you didn't know what you were doing.
Back to Knox, do you still have a warranty on the S4? Most units will be out of warranty, in which case it won't matter if you trip the Knox flag. If you're trying to preserve your warranty, it probably will not be possible due to changes to Android.

Well yes I do have 2 year warranty because I did bought the galaxy s4 just 2 weeks ago, that's why I don't want to root it.
But if I could root it and still have the warranty on one or other way or set it back to normal , well that changes everything.
There are to much cool featers with this rooting stuff.
And also because I can't copy any files anymore to the sd card , stupidest change in android I've seen :'o

So apparently you're still on Android 4.4.2, since Android 5.x removed the MicroSD card restriction. Is that correct?
As long as you are NOT on Android 5.x, you can root without tripping Knox, by downgrading the bootloader and modem to an earlier version, then running Towelroot. The drawback is that you won't be able to upgrade to Android 5.x. OTA updates won't function, and using Odin to upgrade wipes the /system partition, which will cost you root.
Regardless of the warranty, I personally would trip Knox and not lose any sleep over it.
Hey
Sorry for my double post.
Euh no, android 5.0.1 was already pre installed on this phone.
It is galaxy s4 black edition gt-i9515
Hmm maybe I must wait for a moment maybe there will come new safer methods
Greetings
The fact you have a value edition S4 changes things. You might as well flash CF-Autoroot now, because there are no safe methods for you. There are no custom ROMs either, but I digress.
@darrendude1: Rule number 1 of this site is to search before you post. The entire reason the rule is present is to avoid having people ask the same questions over and over again, simply because the question has likely been already answered. It applies regardless of whether you are a noob, senior member, recognized developer, or any other title the site may bestow.
In the case of the OP, you clearly didn't read the thread, because I explained to the OP exactly why I asked the questions. He understood why I asked them, and from there we have continued the conversation. To a noob, I would hope they would take rule 1 to heart, and actually did some research into what root is so they could actually explain why they think they need it.
Hi just got my s8 plus and I'm just wondering I want to root and been searching around about what tripping knox brakes but keep getting mixed views
I will be rooting and flashing a custom Rom and kernel would someone be kind enough to list every app that get broken and is not fixed even by a custom Rom or kernel (like iris scanner,s Health, ect)
As I really want to root but don't want to damage too many apps in the process
Many thanks also my model is the SM-G955F

No unfortunately not, Knox is a fuse on the motherboard. Once tripped it burns. So far only way to get Knox back would be to change the motherboard

Yes but the apps and system dont read the statuts directly from the bootloader but from the kernel, this is why there is a kernel that has faked 0x0 knox, but the fuse is still blown yes.

You can use terminal to change Knox to 0x0 but still. S health will work and some apps, but not secure folder or Samsung pay
so, knox tripped and rooted on stock unmodified rom :
safety net fail : (no apps like samsung pay, Pokemon go, Mario run, snapchat login ,etc)
no system updates
samsung apps won't work : samsung pass, samsung pay, Shealth, secure folder, issue with private mode on samsung internet,
if you use a custom rom most of stuff CAN be fixed like
safety net pass with magisk hide (root)
s health work
private mode on internet
BUT some are permanent and can't be fixed even with custom rom so once rooted , no way back except buy new phone
samsung pass, samsung pay, secure folder
Remember that once you are rooted and knox counter is tripped (0x1), its irreversible and can't be "unrooted" or be official and reset knox counter even by flashing stock firmware though odin because since galaxy s7 the knox counter is not software related but its hardware. its an electronic fuse and if you root or install custom recovery etc the electronic fuse will broke and broken fuse mean tripped knox counter. this is because even flashing stock firmware is useless, as most of Samsung apps knox related don't only check root but also the knox counter, so unroot won't help. so think twice before rooting your device

its useless, Samsung knox apps dont check if they see 0x0 but it just put some electricity though the knox fuse and if it get though it its ok but if the electricity dont success to get through the fuse it mean its broken so I mean knox is 0x1 and rooted.
fake knox counter is useless as every knox eligibility checks are hardware and not software. fake 0x0 is only for you ^^to reset the counter only way is the replace the motherboard, even Samsung can't reset it

There has to be some hardware abstraction layer, you can't just test the fuse each time, that would mean that the apps have really low level rights/api to do so wich is risky. The bootloader tests the fuse and writes the value to the kernel, wich can be faked to make some apps work.
If the value is checked by apps then there is a software value other than the hardware status.
But dont quote me on that.
For apps that dont work i think there is some selinux policies issues or root gets detected.
Why would devs include the fake 0x0 counter if it was useless ?
darn making me think twice about rooting now i mainly want it for debloating, apps ad blocking,viper4android,and a few mods like stereo speaker and camera mod
also the youtube mod which allows us to stream 4k (i know we only have 2k display) but i still like to stream in 4k

In my opinion android pay is better and it's supported in many places. But that's my opinion.
If you root I recommend rooting with magisk. So you can use magisk hide and modules. Good luck and post here if you need any help :good:
