weird charging - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello
i have the sm-n9005 note 3 32 gb model,1 month old
when i connect the phone to the charger using the original usb 3.0 cable and charger to the wall,it does not charge immediately, sometime after 4-8 seconds and sometims i dont know,if unplug it and plug it back it starts charging.
i tried moving the usb maybe its a contact lose.. but nope, same result.
and this happens rarely.. like twice a week
does any 1 have this issue ?

nobody.
go to warranty but before do factory reset.

Have you tried replacing the usb cable and or the ac charger? if you dont have a 3.0 usb cable you can use a 2.0 usb cable.
If its still the same you can then try to get a new battery just to test if its the battery or not.
If all else fails contact samsung or your mobile provider for warranty. Just to be safe tell them your situation and the stuff that you did to properly isolate the problem.
Once they approve the repair of the unit you will need to mail them the unit and it may or will take 1 to 2 wreks for it to get repaired. I think it will be mailed to a service center that fixes their tablets and mobile phone somewhere in el paso texas.

[Q] Nexus 4 charging mode won't stay in AC, drops to USB

phone only started doing this over the last couple months, used to be able to plug in (either charger / cable) and charge in AC mode without supervision.
Nowadays, it takes several plug in attempts to even START in AC mode, but typically it'll drop down to USB (the screen comes on momentarily when the change occurs) at some point in the charging.
Worst case scenario, it'll change rapidly back into AC and out, to the point where I can watch it on happen on the screen. That's rarer though.
It never changes INTO AC and stays there, to be clear. Always a downgrade to USB charging.
Is something wrong physically with the jack on the phone? I've never damaged the phone, dropped in water, etc.
If RMA is what's suggested as my only option - is that a brand new phone or refurbished?
Use another USB charger, its a known problem with the supplied LG charger with the N4. I myself have this problem but am using another charger and its fine.
The USB cable has no problems btw, its the charger itself.
Can you link to your sources on this being a "known problem" ?
I'm pretty sure the same issue persists with my old Samsung charger too - the one supplied with the Galaxy Nexus. So.. that suggest the problem is with the phone, not the charger/cable.
i also have the exact same problem just now.. i'll try using another charger tonight at home..
just now i charged my nx4 using its original charger, in just a couple of minutes, the phone is saying that its being charged using usb.. stupid..
I'm also getting this at the moment, I'm completely stock, not even rooted and this has cropped up only since the 1.8mb Security Patch....
Any fixes?
Will root if I can fix it....
I was/am having this issue as well. I typically charge my phone via car charger (works fine) or wireless, so I can get around this issue easily. Plugging it into the PC and enabling fast charge with franco's kernel works as well.
I tried my N10 charger and it was dropping to USB as well. When I'm at my friend's place and use his generic charger, it works fine.
I used to have this issue but ever since I updated Android to 4.3, my charging works just fine.

Might try a factory reset and see does it make any difference...
do we have any more thoughts on this issue? is it a software bug? is it hardware? which hardware? I am going to experiement with a few different wall chargers and usb cables.
so 3 chargers (Galaxy Nexus' , Nexus 4's, USB 3.0 port on PC) and 3 cables (likewise + cable from monoprice)
SEEM to yield the results, that the problem is the connection between the cable and the phone. The oldest and most used cable has the hardest time establishing and maintaining an AC connection, the newest/lest used one from monoprice has never had a problem, and the LG cable is in the middle.
Is this an issue of wear and tear on both the cable connectors and the phone's port? It's really lame the phone and it's cable are not even a year old and THAT can't stay charging at AC voltages.
Will a replacement phone from Google be a refurbished unit or brand new?

They will send you a new (not refurb) phone and you will have 21 days to send back your old phone. The replacement process is super easy, just call them at +1 855 83NEXUS and tell them your issue. They will walk you through a factory reset and if the problem is not fixed they will replace it.
I've had issues with the microusb port on multiple phones in the past, and have definitely noticed the N4's socket getting looser.
On an old HTC sensation, I had to resolder the port on. Can you reproduce the behavior by applying slight pressure to the plug in various directions?
Does your connection also intermittently drop out when connected to a computer?
A workaround for the time being could be to use a kernel that allows you to force fast charging regardless of the detected charger. But at that rate, it's quite possible you'll lose your usb port altogether sometime in the future..
You could also enable adb over wireless, and check the charger type:
Code:
cat /sys/kernel/debug/msm_otg/chg_type
You should be seeing DCP (has the data pins connected, possibly with some resistance).
Or proprietary if you're using an Apple-compatible charger (has aspecific voltage on the data pins).
If you see SDP, it means it's in "USB" mode.
If it's staying DCP/proprietary but the charge rate is dropping to "USB," it means the phone is throttling down the current because it's detecting the charger can't deliver (voltage dropping below threshold).
with the good cable (monoprice), wiggling has no effect.
with the poorest cable (samsung), wiggling will rapidly change it between AC / USB / nadda
with the LG cable, wiggling, will SOMETIMES have an effect. sometimes it's solid and will only become a flaky connection after it's been charging a while already

[Q] OEM usb cable malfunction

Hello community,
trying for half an hour to connect my note 3 to the pc using the OEM usb cable, I kept getting error 43 "Unknown Device" stuff but the phone was being charged. After that, I plugged it in my usb 3.0 external drive cable and got recognised instantly. What do you think is the problem here? I did happen to land the phone-edge of it in a yogurt bowl last week but, after cleaning it, it has been working normally this much time!
(Hope) someone else had a similar experience and worked it out...
Thanks,
jim
Original cable that came with my Note 3 has broken wire inside from new, I need to move it around few times just to get it connect inside and charge phone, Note 3 itself works fine with usb2 cables, or usb3 cable from my back up HDD, so I strongly suspect one of the wires inside your cable broke or has poor connection as well, but here it's data line, not power like in mine. Solution is very simple, use another usb3 cable, that should give you fast charge, or even usb 2, but here probably charge will be slower. You can find inexpensive cables online, also I don't think cables have full 1 yr warranty, like phones do but you may as well try warranty claim. BTW there is nothing special about Samsung charging cable as far as I know and at least in my case any USB3 cable will charge my phone at full speed, just like original cable as long as charger is original.

yes, Kies 3 has been installed since the beginning with the drivers. And as long as the phone is recognised through another cable, the drivers are definitly installed! Thanks again!

As long as I have the backup cable, I just leave the OEM in the wall charger and everything is fine. There is the fact that my Knox is 0x1, but I can just try the warranty with the cable and the receipt
Thanks again!

Galaxy s5 won't charge, please help urgent!

Phone had been acting up since Monday night . At first it wouldn't charge with the original charger on the wall outlet so I plugged in the USB to my PC and it was charging perfectly fine. Then all was good until yesterday night when it stopped charging on the wall. It started giving me some error about using a sharing cable (wtf?!) Then I figured OK maybe I should connect it to my PC. So I connect it and it wouldn't charge at first but then it did. Then I started looking up for a solution because I need my phone to work ASAP and it charges way to slowly on my laptop. Everyone was saying do a factory reset, remove the battery put bit back in, maybe charging port is faulty . Then I tried using another cable , I used my sisters s4 USB 2.0, connected it to the wall and it sort of gave it power for like 50 seconds then stopped. Now I'm losing patience here, I go back and forth between cables and wall to PC etc I gave up and turned my.phone off for the night. Wake up , plugged in the wire to my PC and the charging icon with the bolt in it comes on for 5 seconds then turns back off and comes back on . This repeats itself and doesn't stop. This happens when the phone is off and is connected to either the wall or my laptop.
https://youtu.be/wy-_i4Tl_7g
Tldr: phone doesn't charge at all. But when turned off, charging logo appears for 5 seconds then comes off and back on and repeats this cycle over and over. Still not gaining charge

Did you try buying a new cable and plug, also what Rom are you on.
Well right now I'm using a different cable and charger block , I'm using this very very small USB 2.0 cablebi had from a old Nokia and my nexus 7 charger block . And it's still not working. And I'm on stock Lollipop , updated my phone on Monday night ! Had the problem a bit before and exactly after the update to 5.0 !

It's your phone indeed, Is your lollipop rom modified in any way or rooted?
It actually WAS rooted before the update! I had it rooted through towelrooot but i unrooted it via supersu so i could install the 5.0 update
So your counter is still 0x0, if so I say take it back to t-mobile or whatever company you bought or you can try buying a wireless charger

SO i have to take it back to my carrier? What if my usb charger COVER fell off? you know the thing that you have to open to plug your usb in and you close when youre done, yeah well that thing fell off the other day and i didnt bring it in contact with water or anything so idk what to do right now
You can find those on amazon for pennies on the dollar
Try cleaning the battery pins on the back of your phone or the battery itself... I experienced the same thing... All I did was file the pins 1 or 2 times and it got fixed. Or maybe try cleaning the USB port of your phone... Base on what you're saying I can say it's just a connection issue that needs cleaning.

I got it to charge in my PC using an unofficial 2.0 cable but its connected to my PC.
I'll give the filing a true hopefully that work
Yeah do what @Riyal said I should have thought of that myself
@GuyananV Hey haven't from you what's the situation with your s5?

Nexus 6p charging: original cable only when cable inserted in one particular way

It is hard to describe, but I am desperate about this issue as Google/Huawei and Dealer say things that I cannot understand.
With the Nexus 6p I got 2 cables: USB-C-to-UCB-C (similar, symmetric ends) and USB-C-to-USB-2/3 (for the MAC/PC, not similar ends).
I am pretty sure that the issue started since one of the OTA updates, but take it as speculation.
The issue: if I connect the phone to a MAC it starts charging no matter how I insert the USB-C end into the phone itself (let's say the C end has two surfaces - I am talking about ONE end of the cable) BUT when I connect the phone to the wall charger via USB-C-USB-C cable it starts charging only in one particular position of the cable and does not start if I insert the cable while turning one end upside-down (surface 1 - there is charging, surface 2 of the same end does not charge in the same upward position)! The issue appears even if swipe the ends.
If the USB port in the phone was faulty - I would expect the issue to appear with both cables, but the issue appears only with C-C cable. Moreover, I went to the store where I bought the phone and they used THEIR C-C cable with the same issue
They say me: "charge the phone in this position only"! But the idea of USB-C is symmetry, thus I do not understand what the issue is.
Could someone suggest any technical explanation??
is it the wall brick that came with the phone? if so, I would say the brick is bad.
charging works fine here with usb c to usb c and wall brick regardless of how either end is plugged in, even swapping which end is plugged into the brick makes no difference.

thanks for the answer, Unfortunately... the issue is still there with another charger (power bank)... so I am still confused.
Unfortunately, if you have tried every possible combination of cables and chargers and the issue persists, then there must be something wrong with your phone. The only thing I might suggest is to do a factory reset. And if that doesn't work, you'll have to contact support for a replacement. They'll likely request that you try a factory reset before they'd replace it anyhow.

I did factory reset - the charging issue is still persisting. If I understand it correctly only Huawei can check and fix the device. I am so sad I should send the device to them... %( I do not have any replacement at the moment...

I was reading your original post again and I agree that it seems unlikely that it's an issue with the usb port if the problem isn't there when you charge with a PC. Have you tried a non Google charger or maybe a custom ROM? It's just a shot in the dark but I would cover all bases before sending it back.

The phone is under warranty this is why I won't try custom roms etc. I tried power bank and the issue persisted. For me it is very strange - how the PC cable can provide power no matter how I insert C-end, and the USB-C-USB-C cable works only in one particular way (as I described)...
I am afraid that if I send to phone to Huawei they will not check it (will not turn the cable upside down) and will return it as is...

Trying a custom ROM won't affect your warranty. If it doesn't work you can always flash the stock Google image and relock your bootloader before sending it back.

I am desperate... I've got another C-C cable - the issue persists on 2 chargers while connecting the phone (the original and power bank). The power bank charges itself while connected to the original charger via C-C cable (in any combination of connections) , thus nor cable, not original charger are faulty.
What I fail to understand, WHY USB-2/3-to-USB-C charging is working no matter how I insert USB-C end.
In my understanding there is something with usb C-C charging and phone together %(
I do not know what to do... I am sure if I send the phone to Huawei it will come back as "no faults found"...
Finally, I sent the phone to the manufacturer and they found the charging port was faulty - they repaired it and the phone is on its way back.
Thanks for the update

[Help] USB not Recognized! and Phone Charging is very very slow.

I have been facing the issue of slow charging from 3 days now. It takes 9-10 hrs to charge completely. Interestingly I just plugged my phone to my PC and USB not recognized pops up every time. I tried changing USB Cables and Chargers , nothing helped. I think these two issues are closely related and some chip is blown up inside. Any idea if what could be causing this?
Use custom kernels
you find the solution ???? please help me if u can !!!
Same issue happened with me when actually Imy phone was bricked,I changed and used other usb cable, then I got solved my issue, then after 3 months, tht cable stopped to work only for my mobile (works in other mobiles still),so I have to keep changing cord n adaptor for fast charging, now iam currently using Moto turbo charging,n from 6 months it's working properly,n never use phone while charging
if pc says that the last usb you plugged is malfunction... than thats the problem with me also.. i guess phone usb port is damage some how... coz my phone also takes 5hrs to charge and pc plug say usb malfunction
You need to get your motherboard change if usb charging board is not seperate. i experienced the sam eissue on my zenfone 5, i did a thourough check, even bought its psu and relaced it. turns out its motherboard was buggy and a slight water drop on the cable mouth caused this issue. better get it replaced if its still in warranty else you will have to buy a new mobo.

I have same problem you have to change mobile usb charger connector i.e. charging port of mobile. then it will be solved.
Dude do these 3 :
1.check with another adaptor, along with ampere app make sure charging is 2A
2. Change the usb configuration, dont charge from pc it chaarges slow bcoz its DC
3. Change your rom, use custom ones or reflash whatever u r on.
