[Q] What is IMSLogger+? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was rummaging around in the installed applications list looking for stuff to uninstall when I stumbled upon something called IMSLogger+ that apparently has every permission in the history of Android along with an icon that just screams "suspicious".
http://imgur.com/a/X2aA9
Never seen it before today, it might or might not have been part of the Malaysian BOA2 firmware update.
Googling around doesn't turn anything concrete up aside from some allusions to possible malware delivered OTA to the Note 4.
Does anyone have any ideas what it could be and whether it is safe to freeze and uninstall with Titanium Backup?

It's the application that's listens to your microphone to gI've you ad's based on what it picks up.

[Q] Issues downloading apps from marketplace after firmware upgrade

HI all, this past weekend Kies popped up with a notification that there was a firmware upgrade for my Galaxy S. I immediately downloaded and installed it, I guess a newbie mistake. When completed I found that all my apps vanished and my settings went back to out of the box state. Though annoying I spent much of Saturday morning trying to get my phone back to where I had it before the update. The issue now though is that when I log into the market I find I am unable to download certain apps, I get to the install button on the phone then I get an error message "file not found". This is troublesome as there are a few apps that I had before the upgrade that I can no longer install, including paid apps, (examples Pandora, Pure Calendar) nor am I able to install certain new apps. I read that the market will no longer display protected content after this upgrade. I spoke to Samsung who told me to take the phone back to the Bell store. Bell told me to call Samsung as it is a firmware issue
Has anyone else experienced this, and does anyone know of a solution to the problem.
Thank you

Some people suffered market problems after upgrading to the UK-released JM1 last week. Apparently Samsung has to notify Google that they released an official update, so that Google allows access to paid and copy protected apps for that firmware. It took a couple of days for everyone to see everything over here. Maybe you just have to wait a bit (?)
Same happened here in Australia.. It was fixed the next day. I called Samsung to complain about it (when it was still happening) and was told that there was nothing they could do (which seemed like rubbish to me)..
If you are updating to a unsupported (beta) fw, make sure you install a rom or replace your build.prop file with a supported fw file.
Hi my phone is a month old now, everything is stock..no mods so far..I am having multiple problems with my phone.
- I cannot download anything from Market..it starts download and then 'download unsuccessful'
- FM radio never worked for me, not even after manually tuning it.
- I am not able to use wifi..it just says 'obtaining address...'
I did a factory reset yesterday and after that I was able to download 2~3 apps from Market..but today I am facing the same issue again.
Please help me guys..
Thanks guys for the help, it turns out that the issue was exactly what you said, but maybe more to the point, my own impatience.
Thanks again

I am on the Captivate running the beta I897UCJH2 firmware. I have market issue with some apps (e.g., Asphalt 5 HD, Fandango, and G4Tv) not showing up. I tried your method of copying over the build.prop file from the official I897UCJF6 firmware release. Even rebooted after doing that. The missing apps never showed up, so I reverted back to the JH2 build.prop file. Any other suggestions to fix my issue?
P.S. - Spoke too soon. This does work. Someone suggested clearing Market cache, followed by reboot, and then installing and reinstalling a couple of apps. And that did the trick.
from what i can gather it seems to be related to a location issue, as in certain apps will not show up for some countries and other apps will, etc.
so if you load firmwares from different geographic location the market is filtering what it allows/not allows bassed on the rom firmware location.
it'll be great if we can remove that filter and have it show everything online.
the work around that i do is find and download the apps via browser, instead of market
also avoid the barcode scanner downloads, which just launches the market app

Are you saying there a site where I can get the all the apks for these missing apps downloaded by bypassing the market? I have never run across it so far. Every one of the solutions so far has the phone launching the market app at some point, which fails, as the apps are not listed or downloadable there. The apps I am talking about are all free and should be legally able to be sideloaded, but how?

[NO-ROOT] Unimpressed by Lollipop Memory management? Frequent app crashes? Look here!

No, this is NOT the Xposed "Fix Memory Leak" install that fixes nothing, because Sony already patched that in to their 5.0.2 release. If you have it installed now, you can uninstall it because it is literally doing nothing but taking up free space on your device; and is another hook you don't need in your install process. That also requires root to be installed, and this is a no-root situation
After a week of battling with XZDR and [NUT] starting to hate me, I decided to just bite the bullet, and FTF flash the stock, unrooted firmware, and see what it was like without root and if I could live. Most of the apps, not all of them though, can be disabled completely from within Android app manager, so things like TiBu are not really needed. I don't use Facebook or Twitter apps so having the "Xperia for Facebook" apps, which can't be frozen/disabled, was a pain in the ass, but they don't have any login information so everything's safe there.
I was very unimpressed with the way certain apps loaded. As an example, using Disa for my messaging solution was great, but SwiftKey was being a jerk. I'd press on the text input field and the keyboard would show up and then disappear right away. It would sometimes take up to 3 minutes of constant press *hides* press *hides* press *hides* just to be able to type a "K" message to someone. Not happy. Then, I'd load up Clash of Clans, do what I needed to do, then close it, then load up Family Guy, and it would crash because CoC was in the background. I'd have to completely reboot my phone in order to go from one game to the other. Very unhappy.
I found the app "Android System WebView", and not knowing what it was, tried to disable it. I uninstalled updates and disabled the system package, but it wouldn't let me disable it, only remove and replace with stock, and I thought that that was good enough. Rebooted my phone, and blamo.. phone performance increased by at least 3 orders of magnitude!
I've yet to have the SwiftKey hiding issue, and as I typed this, I finished the gold mine upgrade and went to see if Peter was doing Shipoopiing, and all was well.
Great thing is, if this doesn't fix your issue - you can update it right back to normal from Google Play.

For me? i don't find any issues with the memory management by Lollipop as of today (from the first release). In fact, my phone runs faster and smoother compared to KK. Battery is so good that i don't need to recharge at night after the whole day usage. I use also the google keyboard (the VERY first version) which i dont find any problems at all. I just make my phone as simple as possible. No root done and i just disable some bloatwares and un-installing some gapps. I also ask myself, what's the use of Android System Webview? i do some couple of search and i found that, it does not affect the performance of my phone, so i just keep it update.

Hi Bro,
Wrong thread. please direct you're question to Samsung Thread. maybe they can helped you in there. This is a Sony Xperia Z1 thread. But since you're here, Try to factory reset your phone or wipe dalvik and cache.

Use the built-in Android uninstaller - don't use TiBu if you're rooted or completely uninstall it. Android interface won't let you uninstall it entirely, just remove the updates and return it to stock factory settings.
It's currently working perfect for me - no issues or slowdowns or crashes all day today. I've used Chrome, the key program that this app is designed for, and it still works fine, along with a few other select programs that utilize it. All is well.
I don't know about stability issues if you're rooted and you completely uninstall it - so proceed at your own risk..

As interesting as this solution seems, I think I found why you don't have an issue I used to have a lot of launcher redraws and slow downs every now and then. So I froze a bunch of apps using ROM Toolbox and boom, no more redraws or slow downs. Worked like a charm. I think freezing or uninstalling bloat was the reason your memory issue was fixed. Cause I didn't uninstall the web view or make any changes with regard to it.
Uninstall or freeze bloat, and it should fix it immediately
ROM Toolbox requires root.
Freezing and Uninstalling bloat also requires root.
My fix doesn't require root.
It dosnt fix it ? % but atleast better, i saw an article before mentioning that android webview cause lag problems idr where
I will test that! I also suspected that component to be a memory hog... Thanks for sharing, I will test and see what happens!
Security issue
Please be aware that you are opening yourself up to security issues by uninstalling these updates. This webview component is the part of Android used for displaying webpages inside of other apps. Since it is a full HTML renderer, it is susceptible to the same security issues that regularly get fixed in your Chrome installation. But previously, (pre-lollipop) this component was part of your ROM and could only be updated by firmware updates. Since lollipop, Google separated this component into an updateable Android package. I sincerely wonder if your ¨fix¨ was due to the uninstallation of these updates. You have, however, already missed 4 security updates.
Proceed with caution...

"...because Sony already patched that in to their 5.0.2 release." <- I reported that already.
About the WebView. If you think that WebView is responsible for your device not working properly then you definitely don't know what WebView is and when it's even being used. You don't just go and disable any system app you don't recognize. Those advices are worthless.
All you need is a stable ROM. I'm using my own custom ROM, have the latest Play services, Play Store and WebView embedded into the ROM. The ROM works perfectly and normaly has 700-800 free RAM.

Your attitude towards root does not make a lot of sense: your system apps have root regardless of rooting status. Your android runs as root without asking for permission. So, your phone IS rooted by default. The only one who does not have root access is you. Having root for you means having an app that alerts you and asks for your permission when there is a request for root by other apps. That prevents malicious script execution. Let me give you an example: your web browser sits in system partition which has automatic root access. Suppose, you visit a site thay silently executes a java script and takes over your browser. Now, it has root permission without any notice to you: it can download anything to your system and take over your phone. And there is nothing you can do to stop this unless you have root. Also, think about oem and google updates: they all can run silently, unless you have root.
So, in short, having no root equals no security at all...

As few peoples pointed out, by NOT installing Android System WebView update, your phone might have some security risk.
I would really not recommend using this "FIX" , My Z1 doesn't have this sort of problem anyway.
Webview IS security risk, because it is an html renderer with web connection abilities. There is no legitimate reason for a user to have this app, which purpose is to provide an advertising vehicle for corrupt developers (I call corrupt those devs who use ads in their "free" apps). It is better to just uninstall this app than constantly update it where updates are always behind bugs, malware and other security vulnerabilities. Only your web browser, e-mail client and internet messaging apps should be allowed to connect to the internet for security reasons and battery/performance sake. So, while I don't agree with OP's attitude towards root, I support him when he gets rid of another bloat/malware/security risk...
As far as deleting the app, if your rom does not provide for system app removal, just use a file manager (root required) and erase the app from the system...
For anyone who cares:
Webview is part of android. Not updating it is a bad idea as others have stated. There was an update about two weeks ago that had some bugs and was eating battery and causing some apps to crash. Google fixed it quickly and the current one in the play store is fine again. No battery drain and plays nice with all apps.
It's funny that if Google didn't release a buggy update, nobody would have even known or cared it was there. They would have just updated it.
As others have stated it was always there, only now they are updating it regularly through the play store instead of having to wait for an OTA. If you don't update it, that's fine, it is your choice.
It should be updated considering there are security and performance fixes in the updates. Giving others erroneous information and telling them to remove it completely when you don't even know what it is, is not a good idea.
A simple Google search when the buggy update dropped would have revealed that it was just that, a buggy update. Solution was, uninstall just the update UNTIL Google released a fixed one. Personally I have noticed better battery since the newest update.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Free mobile app
No matter the solution, this new Lollipop release is really bug when it comes to memory management. I can't listen to a podcast without the app being killed ten times an hour... It never happened to me before. My smartwatch is constantly disconnected because the Wear app is killed every time I receive a message and so on (while there are still at least 400 MB free in memory).

I´m sorry, this really is just bad advise: you are breaking apps (legitimate apps, not the adviews you refer to) by removing this app. Again: this is not an app, it is a system component that Google made updateable via the play store. It is not meant to be removed without breaking apps.

Name one app (that is no malware/bug/ad) broken because one removes webview...
Just because an app sits in the system does not make it a legitimate one. Any app, if it wants to display an internet page, can use stock browser. There is simply no reason to have an extra layer (webview) that exposes you to security risks. This is, by the way, what Google does: to make sure that your device is wide open to commercial/spying interests. But luckily, because of open source, one can remove most of this garbage...

Tablet freezing and crashing after appearance of an app called "baby angel"

Hi all,
My model SM T330 has begun periodically freezing with whatever app I try to run eventually crashing about 30-60 seconds in. At its best the app simply crashes and dumps me back to the home screen (which often fails to load my shortcuts and widgets). At its worst it will completely freeze when I try to transition to a new app or otherwise try to navigate the UI. I would chalk this up to it getting old but I got lucky and managed to get the home screen to load only to find that an app called "baby angel" had suddenly appeared there (it uses the Android system app icon). I was able to get the applications manager to last long enough to find that this app wasn't listed anywhere (even under "all"). I don't see how it could be an actual system app because I haven't updated my OS (version 5.1.1) in a while (unless it updated itself even after I told it not to) and I couldn't find any reference online to a system app of that name (just a bunch of live wallpapers that I definitely don't have).
At this point I assumed I'd been infected with malware so I ran a full scan with McAfee but it came up with nothing. I find this hard to believe but I'm not sure how to proceed or if the two events are even related. Right now I'm just keeping the Wi-Fi off in case it's being accessed remotely somehow (did I mention my tech literacy is mediocre at best?)
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. If I've left out some important piece of information feel free to ask.
Flash the stock firmware with Odin.

S Planner notifications came back from the dead

Hello all. I was disabling a few apps on my SM-T280 (no root). A little while ago I purchased a font via Samsung and was introduced to "Samsung Billing" app. After that I noticed "Samsung Music" received an update. I don't want to use it, so I uninstalled updates and cleared its data. It kept coming back, so I found out I could disable "Galaxy Apps" to fix that. So far, so good.
Storage space is at a premium on this 8GB device, so I went looking for ways to cut corners. I disabled:
Galaxy Essentials Widget
Samsung Billing
Samsung Galaxy
Samsung Push Service
S Planner
according to a detailed forum post (not for this device) on which apps can be safely disabled.
Now all my Google Calendar items are being called out by S Planner, and I can't make them stop. I've tried re-enabling the original S Planner app and clearing its data then rebooting.
A few questions:
Are there supposed to be two S Planner apps listed? One can be disabled and uncheck notifications. The other cannot.
or did Android somehow reinstall it to a new instance?
If there is a solution, do I need root? I'm willing to try again, after failing last time. I think I need to decrypt the device first.
will rooting cause me to be forever unable to get official Samsung updates? (such as a patch [hopes] for the WPA2 KRACK exploit) I did have trouble checking for updates, as "the device has been modified" or something, but all I had to do was get rid of TWRP.
This app actually woke me up in bed, so I need to kill it. Hopefully without losing all my apps & data...
I do realize that disabling those apps doesn't save any space, but keeping "Samsung Music" from updating saved quite a bit, so I went down the list, just to be thorough, potentially free up resources.
well that was quick. I figured it out... for *some* reason, I had to go into S Planner and disable notifications. yeah obvious... but I don't think I ever had to do that before... so for some reason, disabling the app caused this problem to start, so I'll leave it disabled now.
feel free to delete this thread, if it's not useful to anyone else.

Is it possible to have more details please? Like how to use a deloater, how did you find it? Seems pretty serious. And is the custom rom also affected? Thank you
With the Malwarebytes app, it says "no malware found" when I scan my S8, so I can't recognize that problem.
You don't even tell us how you found the claimed spyware, very bad post! learn to inform better in detail before posting. Claims like that must be documented properly.
How to check/remove system apps

I want to draw attention of all the users of Elephone that the stock ROM is bloated with a spyware com.adups.fota
I found this on my phone today. It transmits every details of your phone and it can remotely access all your documents.
Be careful. Check your phone and run debloater on it.

This is a serious accusation, the OP should include concrete evidence and more details.
Here is my research:
Adups is a Chinese provider of FOTA (firmware over-the-air) update services to a number of OEMs including Elephone. In 2016, there was this news about spyware in some of BLU devices. Here is a good read: https://android.gadgethacks.com/new...be-affected-by-adups-chinese-spyware-0175014/
Here are official Adups' responses: http://www.adups.com/article/article.php?id=113
Sounds to me like that thing happened to some BLU devices and then Adups updated the OTA app to remove that thing. And, I checked our OTA app is newer than that of the BLU in the news.
Anyway, for those who want to check or remove the app in question, below is how.
If you don't know how to use ADB, then you should probably just skip the rest of my comment.
The following commands don't require root to work.
To check:
>adb shell
>pm list packages -f|grep adups
On stock ROM, I see 2 packages of Adups.
package:/system/app/AdupsFotaReboot/AdupsFotaReboot.apk=com.adups.fota.sysoper
package:/system/app/AdupsFota/AdupsFota.apk=com.adups.fota
To remove, enter the 2 commands below. Before doing so, you should know these 2 system apps are put there by Elephone for reasons. If removed, you are responsible for your own action. For one thing, obviously you will not get Firmware update via OTA.
>pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.adups.fota
>pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.adups.fota.sysoper
Thanks anox but, according to kryptowire, and despite adups' claims to the contrary, adups spyware problems continued in 2017. These include enabling adups to run any software they like on your phone at any time. Not only that, but the backdoor uses unsecured comms protocols that could potentially be exploited by ... well, anyone.
Apparently the eragon rom doesn't include any adups vulnerabilities. Of course you have to root and install it, but anyone buying a cheap handset without intending to run a custom rom on it might possibly be out of their depth ...
Thanks Plowmanx for the information. Right, Adups spyware problems continued and spyware can do lots of things. According to this: https://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/kryptowire-adups-news/ in December 2017, mobile security researchers found that 43 manufacturers contained similar spyware. Funny that Elephone is not on the list. Maybe, they didn't test it or whatever. Anyway, my previous comment asked for evidence & details so that we can protect ourselves accordingly.
Obviously, any custom rom will not include Adups' FOTA app, because its OTA function simply will not work. OEM Firmware update won't even work on a rooted rom. My previous comment also shows how relatively easy it is to disable a system app without root. With root, of course, one can do all sorts of things even without a custom room. On my rooted stock rom, I got rid of a bunch of pre-installed packages including MTKLogger, just because I don't like its name. Even when I use a custom rom, I usually still have to remove some pre-installed packages, anyway.
In general, spyware/virus problems will certainly continue. One thing we as consumers can do is to find out the truth about them and try to protect ourselves one way or another.
Thanks anox. Agreed across the board. The S8 will be my first new phone since my trusty oneplus one. I enjoyed the availability of alternative roms there, which is why I thought of eragon in this case. But, if I understand correctly, eragon is now unmaintained, and because Elephone hasn't published its source code no one is producing any other alternatives at this time.
So the only way to go might be, as you suggest, to give up OTA updates by removing adups.fota plus anything else that seems suspect. Keyloggers most especially. Hopefully elephone will come to the party when (if?) they push out Oreo for the S8. Really, there's absolutely no advantage for them in keeping the source closed. Look at what a huge strategic benefit it was to oneplus to make it open!
debloater
I loaded up debloater and it would only show one apk loaded. Depending on what i enabled or disabled on the phone, i could get it to show different apk's as disabled. I disabled Wireless Update on the phone, re-ran debloater and it showed adups.fota as disabled.
I went in via adb shell and removed com.adups.fota.sysoper as well. No idea if that's bad or good, but I figure I can always factory-reset. Anyway the phone seems to work fine. Better than fine - seems like battery life just got a real shot in the arm!

Are you sure about that ? You just received your s8 a day ago. How could you know battery improvement?

I don't. Maybe the battery just gets better over time. I'm only telling you what I did and what happened for me.
It came preinstalled in my Nokia C31, I uninstalled it via the adb method
