"This special localization chip enables the Galaxy S6 to collect and compute data from Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS modules on one single chip which results into far less battery drain."
"The Galaxy S6 indeed touts Broadcom BCM4773 and estimates that compared to existing solutions this chip provides power efficiency of up to 80 percent. This will go a long way in ensuring that the 2550mAh battery in Samsung’s latest smartphone can last even longer."
Great news!

Was the S4 known for its battery life? I didn't experience good performance on mine. I got nervous every time it went below 50%.

My bosses are due for an upgrade and i have been reading everything under the sun about which smartphone has the best battery life... problem is, every website has different results if any on battery life. I realize that big screens and quad-core are all the buzz, but the HTC inspire that one of my bosses has, is a battery hog. We have tried everything to get more life out of the phone, new batteries, multiple batteries and nothing seems to help. The one with the HTC is a power user. Texting and calling around the clock. I would like to get him another HTC with the same screen size because he is used to it. Any ideas/websites would be appreciated. I have read too many reviews and battery life seems to be an afterthought with most reviewers. I like to see test results and comparasions on battery life but so far i have not seen any good ones.
thanks in advance!
I'd recommend looking for a phone where and extended battery is an option - or having multiple batteries to switch in and out (or, following that, multiple extended batteries to switch in and out).
I don't think any phone out there really has abnormally good battery life - if you're a power user you need to find another solution like an extended battery or power pack or something.
I've gone with multiple stock-size batteries for myself. I feel like it's reasonable for the device to not last all day - there's a lot to power there so I don't mind the one minute or so that it takes to exchange for a fresh battery - and the spent one can charge while the next one is being used so that you don't even need to plug the phone itself into a wall.
The Samsung Galaxy Note II has been getting very good feedback from a battery life standpoint.

Looking for a phone that has a battery that has the biggest Ah spec is a good starting point. Also, most android phone reviews include a battery test, but you should only compare reviews of different phones on the same site, as each site probably uses a different testing method to see how long the battery lasts. I don't know if there are any phones that have a lithium-polymer battery instead of a lithium-ion, but li-po batteries have higher energy densities (that should reflect itself in the Ah spec).
GSMArena has set up their own standard for testing battery life. For the average they include 1h of calling, browsing and video playback (all separate and the rest of the time is on standby) if I remember correctly, that way they get fair testing conditions for different phones (some are better for browsing, some for calling, diffrent platforms etc). They also include battery life for browsing, video and some other activities seperately. To me their tests are quite nicely standardized and thought through.
Searching from the biggest capacities is also a great idea, GSMArena has a new search field, which lets you to search according to battery capacity.
I'm not totally sure if they have a certain page for maintaining their battery test or if they have them somewhere on the phones info page, but I would start looking for them through the search or from the blog part of their webpage!
Best of luck!
Thanks for the replies i appreciate them.
I will check out GSMArena

No problem. Glad I could help! Only thing that I would like to find are the overall rankings of their endurance test result. AFAIK it doesnt't excist, but hopefully Iäm just blind
Also sent them a letter that it would be good for something like that to excist, but haven't gotten an answer so far, doubt I'll get one.
S3
Just get a Samsung Galaxy SIII with a ZeroLemon 7,000mAh battery for 3 days of use. They're out of stock on Amazon atm, but they should be getting some in stock soon they told me. For any phone your boss gets, go for a Gorilla gadgets extended battery.
Some years ago, phones used to have a battery life that lasted days even when under heavy text and calling activity. Nowadays, those little devices have been increasing their capabilities beyond the advances in battery technology.
I don't choose my phones thinking on battery life, I'm ready with USB cables and charges at home, my car and soon enough on my bike!
The phone with the best battery life is the Motorola RAZR MAXX (on ICS or later) by a long shot. It beats all the competitors by far.
The Motorola RAZR MAXX has old specifications, but it's not too bad. It's still better than my iPhone 4s; and you could argue the iPhone 5 too. The Motorola will still handle all your daily tasks no problem.
Here is a battery test on the RAZR MAXX: http://blog.gsmarena.com/motorola-razr-maxx-battery-life-is-complete-makes-chargers-feel-lonely/
For all the speculation/rumour/claims that the i9500 would be more efficient than the i9505, I can't find any reports supporting or disproving this now that they're both out there.
Has anyone had the opportunity to side-by-side test battery life on both versions of the S4? (regardless of what AndreiLux says about the premature firmware).
I'm very interested in this information as well with the current setup of the devices.
I'm about to buy a i9500 due to the claimed better battery life over the i9505 as I don't care about LTE, but I have been unable to find out any information about if its actually better.
If the battery life is about the same, then I would get the version with LTE in case I decide in the future to switch networks and use it.
Anyone got any links to a review on battery life between the 2 models?
they have the same screen so they also therefore have ROUGHLY the same screen on time. standby time will be spectacular on both due to the 2600mah battery.
both seem really good though
There was a marginal difference in my tests...
Started from a factory reset
Both devices on 100% (recd the fully charged msg)
Did the same benchmarks on both for about 40 mins (edited to much less in the video)
By the end of the video the Quad (I9505) was about 1% lower (87% compared to 88% on the Octa)
Isn't really the best of tests but would give you a picture
The recording quality in the sound recorder on both devices is also very different... check the video to hear samples

LTE eats more battery period.

Thanks for that Ashwin - 1% means a lot of fuss over little difference! The sound quality seems more natural on the i9505, and louder/hollower on the i9500.

Yes, regardless of what that thread says, I wanted to know what people are seeing in actual usage, with firmware/chipset/ROM/etc in their current state.
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s4_i9500_vs_i9505-review-930p3.php
Looks like the i9505 is quite a lot better with the battery currently. Plus wouldn't you rather take the chipset that is better with sharing source code for drivers for custom roms
I just got new S4 in black and i am loving it. I really feel for the first time that iphone has a real competition now, as the user experienced is very much improved.
Any how we all know S4 is the best, but it is very bad with battery time. I previously had a note2 device you and it usually last more than 2 days on my average use (despite of its much bigger screen size). To make S4 last longer i have turned off every extra feature (i.e air view, smart scroll and all such stuff) but still battery is draining very fast. So this is what i wanted to know...
WHICH IS THE BEST KERNEL THAT CAN HELP IN BOOSTING THE BATTERY TIME OF S4?
when i had a S2 i used Siyah, and it almost doubled my battery time, 2 days even with data on. It was crazy. I am expecting something similar. Please guide me.
And thank you all in advance
what version do you have 505 or 500

Hi guys.
I'm making a decision between this and the Samsung galaxy tab s 10.5 .
It seems that the battery life on the sony is actually much better than the samsung despite the samsung having a greater capacity. Could somebody please post up some stats from the real world usage of the sony? I'm thinking total screen on time, total battery life, time between charges.
Thanks!
Mark

I will not have less than 5% battery till 2 days or so. But I can tell you for now that watching movies, a full charge last 11 hours.

Look in the tweak for more battery time thread a few down from this one. I posted mine in detail.
Considering the capacity of the battery, the battery life is outstanding. For example when the tablet is idle it uses virtually no battery, games and movies will see it drop but not at a fast rate, it would defo see you through a day of hard labour. This is why sony stuck with the quad core, and the very beautiful screen. Having looked at the samsung galaxy s with their superior resolution and octa core, Im glad I went with sony, as looking at the threads over on xda people are not happy with battery life, and they are complaining about lag in games, I guess the octa core era has not been totally settled
Hell. 4 cores is more than you need really! Especially in Android. It's not even really used fully in a much more complex os like windows!
BS. 4 cores is saying nothing about the capability of a device.
There are plenty of laggy, slow phones and tablets with 4 cores out there.
I think that the number of cores is less important than the actual day-to-day handling of a device.
I am trying to make a decision between the two best devices here, and the Samsung has double the number of cores. This is irrelvent if software and hardware implementation means a slower actual experience than a device with half the processor cores.
Or indeed a longer-lasting device with a ~30% smaller battery capacity.
I've seen the battery thread mentioned in the reply above- thanks for that.
Can anyone else post their screen-on time or general impressions of battery duration?
Thanks

My point wasn't that because a device has 4 cores it must be good. I have two Rockchip 4 core devices that are not fast! My point was that octa core is complete overkill as even with 4 cores they are barely ever all used.
On an additional note: I know that the point of the Samsung octa cores is that they can run on the lower freq cores for low Intensity processes for improved battery life, but our 2.3ghz cores can also run at a lower speed when more is not needed and although this may be slightly less efficient than the Samsung 1.3ghz cores, I would still choose the Sony any day on cpu alone!

Hey all. It is my 2nd G4 device and 6 months old (first one died). Recently i realized that battery drains a lot on normal usage. I also disabled useless functions to avoid battery draining. But nothing helped. So, i decided to download an app called AccuBattery from play store. I've used this app for 3 days in order to be sure of the result. Here it is. Estimated battery capacity is 2500mAh. 500 mAh drop for just 6 months.
This is very unlikely. I have it for about 6 months now and I noticed that battery life is fluctuating. What you are getting is an estimation based on whatever Android is supplying. I've had 2 days between 2 charges for a few times when Android or any of the Google Apps did not go wild on it. I have a second battery (the one that comes with official LG battery kit) and I did not have significant lower battery time with this one (it has 2900 mAh). If your G4 is international and you are not afraid of the bootloop, then unlock the bootloader, install Imperium (or Genisys) and enjoy far better and constant battery life. I've had enough Android devices to not blame the hardware (even a Nexus). I have always had significant battery life with a well made custom Rom than with the official one.

I have installed SimpleGX kernel that based on battery and overall speed improvements which is awesome. Also did not see any terrible kind of lag or freeze on this kernel compare to the stock one. Anyways
You can always get better results with a custom kernel. I think only the S6 is a little better at managing apps, but my work S6 does only have work email and Ingress running at all times.

Do not take these as granted. As I said , that app cannot know exactly how many mAh the battery has. It estimates this based on information found in the system.

Yeah it estimates. But the fact is that we can not say it estimates wrongly. It gives approximate results
