[Q] bluetooth hands free - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi folks,
I do not have nexus 10, i have nexus 7 (2013) ... apparently nexus 10 has bluetooth hands free profile --> https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/6048862?hl=en-AU
what i understand is say if you have a phone and you connect to nexus 10 via bluetooth, then nexus 10 acts as bluetooth headset, and all the calls come directly to nexus 10.
is it true? does nexus 10 do that?
can anyone confirm it please.... and post a video pleaseeeeee
thanks,

anyone?

Never tried this. Maybe it does work.

Bluetooth Contacts Sync Problem

Please star this issue at http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=40198&colspec=ID Type Status Owner Summary Stars
I use Bluetooth in my car to make calls, the phone pairs OK with the car, and I can make and receive calls. However, my contacts don't sync, it just shows on my cars screen "Loading Phonebook" and sits there.
I get the message on my phone that my car wants to access my contacts and I select ok , but it repeats the message over and over. So I check "don't ask everytime" and click ok , but nothing happens and I just have the screen show "Loading Phonebook" on the car. I've let it sit for over an hour and reset my phone and every time it's the same problem.
With my Galaxy Nexus on 4.2 it syncs my contacts instantly, no problem.
Anyone face a similar problem with Bluetooth?

Here is the logcat when the phone is connected to the car. Seems like logcat goes crazy displaying the same message over and over again. No wonder my battery drained so fast when paired to my car.

For what it's worth, my Nexus 4 pairs, and syncs it's contacts with my Parrot MKI9200.
BUT, it didn't work the first time I tried to pair them, I'd get continual requests for a connection. Once I'd unpaired and tried again everything was fine.

I constantly get the request to access my contacts, that's my problem. I tried unpairing and repairing, and also did a factory reset, but it doesn't solve the problem.

This is a long shot but has worked for me before on older devices with similar issues.
1. Remove the pairing
2. Install https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.medieval.blueftp
3. Pair through the app.
If it works you should no longer need the app to use the pair.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it didn't work. I want to figure out if it's only my nexus 4 is having this problem or others..
If anyone is willing to come and test their nexus 4 that would be great. I live in Torrance, CA and I'll buy you lunch, and you get to test drive my M3 for an incentive.

No problem - thought it was a long shot. FWIW my N4 syncs beautifully with my Ibiza FR so it maybe a BMW kit specific issue?

I don't know, my galaxy nexus on 4.2 synced perfectly with my car.
Never heard of Seat Ibiza cars, I guess they don't sell them in the US.

Probably not. Ironically my GN was a total nightmare with my car kit.
Anyways - hope you get it sorted.
I've got the similar problem with my Parrot MKi9200; when I try to pair the phone with the parrot, the parrot stuck, does not respond well to the control and I have to turn off the car and back on to recover
Which device instigates the pair?
I've gone away and had a mess about.
My Nexus 4 as it turns out hates the pair being requested. It only behaves if its initiated the initial pair request.

The nexus 4 initiates the pairing request, as my car's Bluetooth kit can't initiate request, just receive them.

Same problem with my Galaxy Nexus running 4.2.1, in a 2007 BMW 530i. I have revised my contact lists, stopped syncing accounts, deleted call logging app, etc. None solve the problem. Before update to 4.2, no Bluetooth connectivity or contacts issues had manifested.
Oddly, my contacts have randomly appeared a few times, but they disappear within minutes. I even went so far as to delete the one contact that would always come up (mine had last name starting with "F" and first name starting with "H"), and now I get a different contact ("G", "T").
Any changes for you recently?

The only solution now requires root. Extract the Bluetooth apk from cyanogenmod ROM and copy it into your system/app directory and reboot. Make sure Bluetooth is off when you do this.
Here's the apk rename it Bluetooth.apk, http://www.mediafire.com/?nomkkcdpucjaxwr
A fix has been submitted to aosp, it's waiting approval. Hopefully in android 4.3 it'll be fixed.

Bluetooth very distorted?

I have a Bluetooth adapter for my speakers that works extremely well with my galaxy s2 and my Mac. However, when using it with my nexus 10, there is a lot of static. Anyone have similar issues?
No such issues pairing my N10 with a Jambox or my car stereo. Does your adapter have a factory reset button?
No. Its just strange that it is crystal clear with my other devices but crappy with my nexus
buzzing esterwas
It appears Bluetooth is more or less broken on Android 4.2 and up. Not limited to Nexus 10 but other devices as well
Since I'm a new user I can't post a link but google code google com bluetooth broken and you'll see the problem is very common. Hopefully Google will fix this in a near future.
BT works fine between my Nexus 10 and my car....no issues at all...

iCade Core and Nexus 7

Hi.
Has anyone on here managed to get an iCade Core working on a nexus 7? I've rooted and installed CM10.1 but still getting asked for a 6 digit pass code to pair it.
There are instructions on the bottom of the icade but they're just not working...it would seem I need a way to disable the passkey requirement for Bluetooth but can't find anything.
I'm dying to play mame on it with the icade so any help in the right direction would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Smiffy.

I have the same problem aparently is the version of th os 4.2.x
Can someone solve this Problem? Want to pair it with Nexus 7 (Android 4.3) and it doesn't work

Who doesn't have Bluetooth issues?

I am subscribed to a few Google group conversations about Bluetooth issues with the Nexus 4 and reading each complaint prompted me to ask. Does anybody out there with a Nexus 4 NOT have an issue with Bluetooth?
I am on my 2nd replacement Nexus from Google Play device support and a third is on the way. If this third device doesn't work, then I either can opt for a refund or wait for Android 4.3 to hopefully fix it, if the problem is software salvageable. So I'm just curious if anybody's N4 actually has no issue with Bluetooth and in what manner do you use Bluetooth and with what devices?

I got my N4 in the first batch from play store back in November
I have never had any issue with Bluetooth
Granted I don't use it often (once every couple weeks on average) but each time I have its never failed in any way.
I have used in my car for hands free and also to send pics to my GF's phone and a couple times to transfer files from my laptop
Started out stock and then last few months been on custom ROM's with no change
Day 1 N4 here too - never had bt problems. Pairs with my car, Motorola headset, and Moga Pro just fine. Fiancée's stock unrooted N4 pairs with her car and jawbone speakers fine. Hoping 4.3 brings LE bt support for my fitbit flex, but besides that haven't had to do anything but turn on bt and pair.
What problems are you having? Haven't heard of people really having issues...
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
To my knowledge from researching the problem myself people claim it's a hardware issue based on some of the responses they get back from google I guess? I knew right away it wasn't just me when someone else I know has a N4 as well and when I use my LG Tone with his while connected via WiFI it pulls a dubstep and drops.
Other than that it's the only issue I have with BT that I can replicate. Hands-free while connected via data works like it should.
No Bluetooth problem here.

Stock 4.2.2 doesn't work properly with my car (BMW E61 5-series). Basic phone works, but no contact sync due to bugs in the N4 bluetooth stack. Moved to CM10.1 which contains various fixes for this and it's worked perfectly since then.
Honest truth - if the first device didn't work and the second was the same, why on earth would you assume that this was a hardware problem and keep sending the phone back? Either request a refund, switch ROMs or put up with it!
Oh sure I guess I have heard people mention that... BT and both 2.4ghz and 5ghz wifi coexist just fine on both N4s here. I just wish it could take advantage of my ac router.

No Issues
Bought my N4 a month ago and I have used Bluetooth hands-free headset, transferred files from my old phone and from my netbook without any problems. Haven't tried stereo audio, though.
Got my N4 in the second batch of those available and have no issues pairing with my vehicle. I don't use Bluetooth for anything else, though
Bluetooth generally works, it only screws up from time to time for things like pairing with a new device. It's been more or less this way since JB and generally if you have a regular bluetooth setup of headset, in-car radio etc, it 9/10 works just fine.
Introduce some complications and it does wonk out sometimes. I've had plenty of times where it wouldn't want to pair right to my laptop or desktop after I factory reset my device. Sometimes it just won't get picked up either when BT is on, visible and another device is looking for it.
I believe I remember reading that there was a legit explanation for this regarding drivers and or some security thing but it's been long enough that I don't remember what the details were or where I even read it on XDA. May have even been the GN forums.
I've seen the exact problem indicated by the video on CM 10.1. I just restarted, wiped dalvik and all was well again.
Other than that my BT has been perfect. I use it daily in my car for audio streaming and phone. At home I pair it to my PC for audio streaming and it works perfectly.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I actually haven't run into many issues with Bluetooth. I use it mainly with Jawbones Jambox and it pairs up just fine. I think it may have dropped connection a couple times but less than a handful. I do run into problems when I miss a call from someone though. The audio quits playback though the devices remain paired.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I guess I have issues. I leave BT on all the time and only randomly does it automatically connect when I get in my car. I generally have to go in to the BT settings and click the device to pair with. It identifies the device, but doesn't connect automatically.
On stock 4.2.2, I had issues with BT not connecting at all and it would get stuck in an on/off post ion (it would never fully turn off or turn on when I toggled the switch). I would have to reboot to get it to work. I have yet to see this happen on cm10.1, I just have the automatic connect issue with cm10.1
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
I usually have no issues pairing and using. But I definitely have these two issues:
1. BT won't turn on at all (like in the video).
2. I notice my phone hot and draining battery. I look at the BT indicator and it is blue indicating a connection but I'm not connected at all. I only use BT in the car and I'm nowhere near my car. Yet the indicator is blue and my phone is hot.
Either is resolved with a quick reboot. I'm not troubled by it but is annoying at times.

ELM327 OBDII scanner bluetooth

I have this model: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...la-_-Diagnostic+&+Test+Tools-_-9SIA0WP08G3580
It paired with my Nexus 7 (2012) fine, but my new Nexus struggles to pair with it, and finally says it cannot communicate with it. Did they change the bluetooth stack? Is there a OBDII scanner that does pair?
Thanks.
Jim
I haven't had any issues with that unit on my n7, n7 2013, s3, or gnex.... What app are you using, I use torque. On a side note I just got the n7 2013 and I haven't let it update android yet so maybe its a 4.3 update thing.

the code for mine is 6789, strange, I'll try again on the way home
Maybe it has to do with the Bluetooth Smart implementation (?). Just a shot in the dark - I need to study up on the topic.
My nexus 7 actually pulled down two updates and the reader no longer works. It has to be the smart/low power Bluetooth, or maybe a compatibility issue with Bluetooth 4.0. After all these are cheap Chinese knockoffs. I'll just use my old galaxy tab 2 7 to leave in the car. They are cheap enough now I may just install it in the car for good. I was flirting with the idea of replacing my old double din head unit with it and run the speakers off my amp anyway...but I digress....
