Can't Pair Nexus Player Remote - Nexus Player Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I I know this has been asked to death already.. I'm sorry.. But I can't seem to pair the remote! Nothing came up automatically as it did in Stock to pair. And home + back button isn't working. How can I enable it without another device? Any ideas? Thanks!
I've tried factory reset, no go. It won't even reset my OS. It'll be exactly the same. Straight to home screen, no prompt to set up.
I've tried using that remote app, but that requires the two devices be connected on the same network, which isn't something I can do. I have absolutely no control over the player.
The remote works. I can pair it to my S3 and it'll work nicely. I can't get the NP to appear as a Bluetooth device. I think that might be the issue. Help!
I just reflashed and got the same thing. Bluetooth doesn't seem to work.. Flashed stock and got remote access back. Flash custom, lose it completely.

[Q] Sixaxis Controller

Anyone had any luck pairing their sixaxis controller with the s5?
I've managed it twice with the sixaxis controller app but it is hit and miss, and more often than not it won't pair at all.
This is via bluetooth. I've turned visibility to never timeout in the bluetooth settings, and the sixaxis controller app starts, and goes into "listening for controllers" but never sees the controller.
Not sure why it worked twice before.

I've never used it with a phone before, but on my computer I always have to make sure to run sixpair (to set the bluetooth mac address). Maybe you forgot to do that?
Nope definitely not that as I used the PC tool to pair it first.
And also like I say, its worked twice on the same phone same ROM but even those two times I had to try pair pair pair twenty times to get the connection to work.

Might as well answer my own question. Finally got this working, had to install the Extremely Debloated ROM which is missing a lot of samsung software, and now it works perfectly.
Something in stock must be interfering with the bluetooth.
Oh well, happy days.
couldnt get mine working. i turned off smart network, synced the controller using sixaxis app. now it works everytime with smart network on or off. im using phoenix rom v2 on my canadian variant. not to sure if smart network affects it but it did fix it for me.

whats was to debloated rom you used and which variant are you?
I found a solution that works for me:I installed Xposed Installer and then downloaded the Bluetooth Unlock 1.1.1 module. Tick the "all files" option in the Bluetooth Unlock module. Next, select preferences/settings/general settings and tick the Auto Start option in the Sixaxis Controller app. Restart your device. Wait for the Sixaxis app to start. Open Sixaxis and Stop the driver (I don't know why you have to do this but you do). Now, start the Sixaxis driver again. Press the PS button on the previously paired controller. It SHOULD connect.
Remember that the Sixaxis app will keep your screen on, so auto start Is not ideal but it seems that there is some interplay between the Sixaxis app/Bluetooth Unlocker and the BT protocols on startup.

Looks to be working for me so far, thanks!
I had this same problem and solved it by flashing the XtreStoLite rom found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2732110
Now Sixaxis controller connects to PS3 controllers and recognizes the input.
I had the same issue with my att gs5 active. What I've found to work is reboot the phone. As soon as it boots go into the sixaxis app and hit start and hit the sync button on the controller. If it connects things are looking good but your not done yet. Wait about a minute or two and chances are the controller will disconnect. Then I hit stop and wait for it to finish (while your waiting hit the PS sync button on the controller) then as soon as you can hit start go ahead and hit it within a couple seconds. The controller should sync again and stay synced this time. I've even hit start then hit sync and that worked too. If you disconnect the app or do a step wrong you just have to restart and start over. I've played for an hour or two straight.
Also I bet with the solution above that installing xposed was just a coincidence. I don't think it's xposed per say making it work for you I think it's really just the restart of the phone then stop the sixaxis server then start it again like I'm doing that's making it work but ya never know not putting you down or anything but figured id post what's been working for me in case people want to try it first before installing more software.
You could be correct. Trying the simplest things first always makes sense.

Nexus Player WiFi and Bluetooth Dead?

BACKSTORY: So I just got my Nexus Player about three days ago. I used stock for all of a day and had no issues. I decided I would try Lollirock v2.1. It loaded with no issues and I was able to get it working. I don't have an OTG adapter so I used ADB to configure the wireless and then found ADBControl to control the device through ADB. I got it working but found that it really didn't align with my desires. I also began having Bluetooth issues with the remote. The remote would randomly drop pairing.
I came home from work the other day and found that the box was not responding over wireless. I just reset power to it and, upon recovery, the wireless and Bluetooth were no longer responding (icons gone from status bar too). I decided this was some sort of Lollirock flakiness. I flashed the device to stock LMY47V. The device recovered and it was apparent that Bluetooth didn't work. I couldn't pair the remote and the device wasn't visible when I pressed the button on the bottom. I was able to pair the remote to my phone so this ruled out a remote issue.
I reflashed Lollirock so I had USB debugging by default and attempted to research in a root shell. I was unable to activate wireless. I saw a random suggestion that wireless issues could have been caused by the Use Network Time setting so I disabled that on Lollirock with no better results.
PROBLEM: Wireless doesn't work at all. In a shell, netcfg is not showing a wlan0. I can't seem to make progress because of this. I assume Bluetooth is trashed because of the same problem as with the wireless. I tried flashing an older stock package with no luck. It seems dead, Jim. Any suggestions?

I never resolved the issue and ultimately replaced the device with a FireTV instead. I'm much happier with the Amazon device.

I have flashed probably 30 nexus players with lollirock never once had a problem! I wonder if you had the wrong file in folder or bad download. I left a root.img from nexus 6 in platform-tools and it booted but was acting crazy but remembered that it was for nexus 6 and reflashed was all good!
if you have access to a usb keyboard of some sort and an plug into your nexus player, find and download (sideload) an android terminal app. in the command prompt, enter:
su
service call bluetooth_manager 8
service call bluetooth_manager 6
i found that info here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-player/help/bluetooth-issues-sixaxis-app-t2987998
hope that helps.

Android TV Remote Control Can't Connect

Need some advice please...been trying to connect my LG G4 to my Nexus Player via the AndroidTV Remote app and haven't had any success.
I've tried connecting via WiFi and BT but neither work. I can see the device, but upon attempting to Connect via WiFi the screen pauses like it's trying to start a connection, but flickers back to the device list.
Trying via BT pairing I can connect my phone but the App won't launch (even with phone WiFi turned off).
Any suggestions here? The only thing I haven't tried doing is taking my old Logitech Revue off the network to see if there's perhaps some interference with the AndroidTV connector.
Doesn't look like anyone has experienced this issue, on the forums -- would definitely appreciate help as the Nexus Player on-screen keyboard is terribly slow!
Thanks.
Bump!
Same issue here with my Nexus 6p and Nexus player....
Please help!

Same glitch here. Changed batteries but no luck. Was on beta, then reverted back to stock N. But still same problem.

Yeah don't think I ever solved this one. Moved on to a Nvidia Shield TV, the Android TV remote app works reliably. Good luck!

bluetooth dead?

so my wife went to use one of the nexus players and the remote wouldnt connect, pushed the button on bottom and it would search, but never connect, tried new batteries, still nothing. tried other remotes (we have 3 NPs) nothing.
did a factory data/reset. cannot get passed the setup screen because it wont see the remotes. got the factory image and ran the .bat file and reset 100% stock. still no connection. if we leave it scanning long enough it comes up with "bluetooth has failed" or "bluetooth connection force closed" im sorry i cant recall the exact wording as last i messed with it was 2 weeks ago.
we've already replaced the player with another one, but i'd hate to toss this one out if its something i can fix in some way. does anyone have any ideas? is it possible the bluetooth chip is dead? I cannot recall if wifi was out to, but i want to say it was but i cant actually get into the OS to be able to double check.
since its back to factory image, then USB debugger is not enabled so im not sure if i can run ABD on it now, and im not sure how i would even connect a keyboard to it, ive tried a usb dongle cable thru the microusb port but either the cable is junk or it just couldnt recognize the keyboard or mouse.
We have 2 of these devices and the remotes stopped working and pairing with them around 7.0 or so.
Tried new batteries, swapping the remotes between devices with no luck.
Can still pair other devices like smartphones and controllers successfully, so it doesn't appear to be a Bluetooth stack issue...

sadly mine wont pair with anything. remotes, controllers, smartphone. and it was on a custom ROM pure nexus for the last 6 months or so
