My LG G2 can only enter download mode - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, I was trying to install a custom ROM on my G2 and screwed up. Now I have no recovery to boot into and can't access fastboot to flash a recovery (not even sure if its possible). I have tried to flash the stock android .kdz files using the LG Flash Tool, but haven't had any success in that area either. I'm not really sure to go from here.
If anyone has any ideas that I might go about fixing this mess, they would be most welcome.

Elaborate please. Why haven't you had any success? What have you tried? What problem(s) are you encountering?

Thus far I've been trying to load the stock ROM back onto the phone but haven't had any luck as the process keeps stopping at the software update stage. It either says the server can't connect or it fails at 2%. I have the phone driver and I'm pretty sure I have the right .kdz file.
Throughout all this the phone doesn't actually begin the 'update'. The phone is on the Firmware Update Screen and stays at 0%.

So I actually did manage to fix this in the end. Just screwed around with the files and flash tools till it eventually worked.

[Q] G2 d800 with d802 rom/firmware bad flash

I bought a broken AT&T G2 that the buyer did a bad flash or something with. Doing some playing around on the phone I see that the phone is d800/ AT&T G2, with what to appears to be a d802 firmware in it. Phone turns on and boots up to main screen but touch screen doesn't respond well and it reboots after maybe 1 min or two.
I have tried lg flash tool but get failed because it reads the phone as d802 and the dll/tot file are for the d800 and doesn't give me an option to proceed. Also tried LGMLauncher but doesn't download the software, gets stuck at 11%.
Any other help will be appreciated, if not I'll resell this phone.

Going give this a try again. But the issue is if my pc has enough time to sync with the phone before the phone reboots.
I've tried something along those lines but to no avail. My phone doesn't show up on my computer in its current status. How can I get map to recognize my phone I have the drives installed and lg upgrade tool can see it so I know it can kinda see it. When I ran Adb devices nothing comes up on the ASB command prompt

don't think that's going to work for my situation but I'll give it a try in a bit. So I would get a d800 rom and load d802 .dll? I think once the program sees the .dll file and the firmware, it will fail.

[Q] [REQ] DLL for flashing D805 10B TOT file through LG Flash Tool 1.6 - Please help

Guys, I really need to find the LG DLL file database for flashing .TOT files.
The DLL file I need is for the LG G2 D80510B_00 or LG G2 D80510A_00 TOT file firmwares, to be used on 1.6 LGFlashTool, for Brazil unbranded variant of the phone. I believe it will work for all D805 models.
The .TOT file I intend to use is LGD805AT-00-V10a-724-05-AUG-23-2013-16G+0.tot
I have scoured the internet for over a week and found none other than in a chinese LG G2 forum, the link -- http://bbs.gaodi.net/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=662769&extra=page=1&filter=typeid&typeid=2381 -- and the file was no longer available for download. I registered on their forum, but the file was showing an error even after proper registration.
I have not found this DLL anywhere, is there a database for it? How did people come up with the AT&T and Vzn DLL versions? I haven't been able to extract it from the KDZ files either, and the DLLs generated from the KDZ during UpdateTool does not work.
I had bricked the phone originally by trying to use Scott's Clean Rom on it, and it bricked into fastboot mode. I flashed something wrong on fastboot, I can't even remeber what, and rebooted, and fastboot was no longer accessible...
I can get into download mode, and factory reset from stock recovery, no custom recovery available, it is gone. I try to flash KDZ files, many versions besides my D805 one, just for the sake of trying, but all of them get stuck on the 49% point. I have set up port 41, disabled modem, reset phone before trying, selected many different language combinations besides my own Portuguese one. Nothing works.
On LGFlashTool 1.6 it seems like it can work, but it errors at 1%, when I use the DLLs for D800 or D802. I need the DLL for D805. I even managed to find the proper TOT file.
I have also searched for about two days on how to reenter fastboot mode from where I currently am stuck.I even did a DIY Factory Cable on an micro USB I had lying around, soldered it all right, but it did not work, and the cable got very hot. I think these cables will not get G2 into fastboot mode, like it seems to do on Kindle fire and Motorola devices. Maybe my DIY was not that good, but I think it should have worked, I made sure the soldure was set and good.
I am downloading Android SDK to try to get back into fastbood mode from there, if there is a way, as it seems to be. I would try to reflash boot and other partitions in an attempt to fix my phone... Is there a way, or another faster path back into Fastboot?
Download mode does not show the version of the firmware on the phone in the box that displays information in the bottom while fdlashng KDZ files. It leaves a blank line where it should be. I believe it is part of my problem, that LGFlashTool does not see a version on the phone at some point, and fails. Or the phone rejects the PC pushes.
I am almost going to the tech support guy with a flash box downtown, but that would be my last resot, and then official LG support, if all else fails. I don't want to go to LG yet because download mode shows ROOTED in red, and they would see it probably, and my warranty become void.
Thanks for any ideas, guidance or help... Cheers guys.
Read this carefully may help you
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2477595
Yeah, that was the guide I used when I landed on fastboot after a bad flash from CleanROM... I flashed some boot.img and recovery.img that didnt work out well.
After I flashed these I rebooted and fastboot mode was no longer loading, instead, I am now on bootloop of the LG logo, with no animation, just the first logo that shows on boot, and I can access stock recovery to factory wipe and also access download mode. My download mode shows rooted warning, and while I am flashing a KDZ, does not show the firmware version I currently have in the middle of the box - before I flashed those .IMGs, it did show the version.
I now a, after a .DLL for D805 10A .TOT file, and I cannot find it. I think the flash method from LGFlashTools 1.6 will work, with .DLL and .TOT files, where the LGFlashTools 1.0.5 did not work for me, with .KDZ.
Or if anyone knows of a way to get into the fastboot mode for G2, pelase let me know. Then I could reflash some .IMG files and hopefully get my phone back online...
Try to flash other version even this is 802 or internetional version. At least you can proof your phone completly brick or not.
I only have all TOT file link of F320 and D802 if you need to try.

Turns out there's already a thread explaining how to do it.

It had to download, so I did it at a friend's who had 50Mbps internet house, to fix this.
I am sorry that I could not manage to do it offline. I even had the KDZ file to flash, but it was only possible through this option in LG Support Tool...
Best of luck to all in any similar problem, I know I was kinda without hope at some points. I spent 2 weeks trying to fix the phone.

Thanks to all that tried to help me! I appreciate it a lot! Thank you so much!
My only solution was to try short the capacitors following this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/general/lg-g2-unbrickable-fix-real-hard-brick-t2904404
Thanks God I don't need to mess with the board!
My problem was that I tried this ROM LineageOS 17.1 with latest version of TWRP Blastgator. Everything was running fine until I flashed Magisk and installed some Mods, then the device rebooted and I get stuck at logo!
No System and no Recovery access, only Download mode! :crying:
Then I followed this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476
I used to install some custom ROMs like Cloudy G2, LineageOS, Resurretion Remix and AOSPX Pie and tried to this new one. I never had any problems!
This time I realized that my device was forever bricked, my last hope was to short the capacitors but I tried all ways to back to Stock because in Downlaod Mode my device was recognized by Windows.
I tried this in Windows 10 x64 but no success, then I formatted an old HD with Windows 7 x64 to try again!
Old Flash Tool get me stuck at 2% or 4%... no success in both system with all LG drivers available... NO SUCCESS!
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53313255&postcount=5400
LGUp only gives Unknow Device and never start but it's seens the device on port 41 - that I changed following the tutorial.
My last hope was New Flash Tool but I needed TOT file for my Device - D805 not D802 and the correct DLL. initially I didn't find anywhere... Like this guy:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2583851
I give a lot of tries... a lot of different files, DLLs, tried .KDZ and .DZ, only errors and errors... a lot of "Failed to Load()"...
I'm getting frustrated until I see this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142
And found this mine of gold of Downloads:
http://downloads.codefi.re/autoprime/LG/LG_G2/
And again, thanks to all, there is a hope in the D805 folder!
I get the TOT File: BIN_LGD805AT-00-V10a-724-05-AUG-23-2013-16G.zip and tried the LG Firmware Extractor (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2600575) to get a new DLL (LGUP8974.dll).
And voilà, like a charm that WORKED!!!!!!!!! :fingers-crossed::highfive:
It installed Jelly Bean the with the Official LG Updater I installed Kitkat and finally Lollipop.
Later I'll try this LineageOS Rom again!
I hope I can help someone in need like me!!
I thank this forum a lot!!
And please excuse my English!
Thank you so much!

[Q] LG G2 bricked and can't flash stock firmware!

So I'm really into Android developing, I'm always flashing and installing etc, but I got a problem now.
Phone information
LG G2 D802
Rooted
TWRP Recovery 2.7.0.0
Was running 4.4.2, found a kdz file on the internet and flashed it (no regular update from my phone)
What happenedI actually did something stupid, I received an application update from the LG Download Center (or whatever it's called) on my phone and clicked on it. I was planning on flashing Android 4.4.2 again because my firmware was not stable, and I thought this update could help me.
But no, after it finished downloading, I automatically booted into recovery.
What I didSo I tried to reboot and enter my OS, but unfortunately, I was stuck in recovery.
I did everything I could, wiping (Dalvik) cache, factory reset, flashed a new rom, restored Nandroid backup, but no, every time I booted, I got back into recovery again.
I only saw 1 option left, booting into download mode and flashing a new firmware.
I found the Netherlands 16GB kdz file for Android 4.4.2 (because I had a French one first), the one I was looking for.
Looked all over the internet, and all guides pointed me to this guide.
Tried it, but I got multiple errors, one of them was that my phone was not connected while I was at 15% of the flash process.
What happenedAfter that first flashing process, I booted up, but got a Security Error. After the Security Error was showing for 5 seconds, my phone shut down. This is happening every time I try to boot up.
I couldn't access my recovery anymore, nothing. Edit: I can access my recovery right now, and I tried this, but when I boot up I get the Security Error again.
The big problem right now is the Security Error! How do I bypass that?
So can someone please help me out!
Several phones/tablets of mine bricked and I always found a way to get out of it, but not this time, unfortunately...

Yes, I actually have. Didn't mention it, but after I did that I booted and got an LG logo and below it was a text that said 'Security Error' After like 5 seconds the security error goes away and my phone shuts down. I can only enter download mode right now.
I'll edit my first post with this info.
Thanks for the help though!
Edit: I find a way to access my recovery again because at first I couldn't but I figured out that the code in the thread you linked was a bit different than the code I entered at first.
So I used the code you gave me, but now I get the Security Error again!
Hi mate, just like you i downloaded that damn OTA today and messed up my phone, but in my case was because i had totally forgotten it was rooted and had custom recovery installed :silly::silly::silly::silly:
I followed this tutorial to fix the boot secure error http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142 and it worked like a charm except for download mode wasn't working at all.
After doing some research i found this post http://forums.androidcentral.com/ge...ricked-lg-g2-stuck-twrp-no-download-mode.html and got download mode (apparently) working again but Windows didn't recognize it at all so i couldn't use it to flash the .kdz stock firmware.
In the end i just flashed a custom aosp rom and got my phone back to life but the download mode issue it's still there and it's bothering me quite a lot.
Any suggestion is welcome.
EDIT: Don't download the recovery from the post, instead look for the latest version (2.7.0.0) because the one posted there (2.6.3.2) might corrupt your partitions

Thanks! But does my internal storage get whiped? Will all my pictures etc. be gone?
And the first thred removes the security error right? And after that I can just boot into recovery mode (I can boot in recovery btw) and flash a new rom? Just wanted to know this so I don't go through all that trouble for nothing
Edit: You know I can enter both download and recovery mode right?

Nope internal SD remains intact, basically what you'll be doing is pushing the right files into the system partitions and yes, in theory you should be able to flash a new rom.
Even if you can boot into recovery you should do it if you're getting that error, and after that you can just push a ROM file to flash (i'll assume you know how to do it) and btw let me know if you decide to flash a stock based rom instead of an aosp like i did.
Good luck with that :good:

Bricked LG G6

Hello everyone!
To make my problem short I tried to update my LG G6 on Oreo but in the middle of update process phone shut down(I didn't know why-probably battery?) And after that phone is bootlooping and I tried to flash stock rom using uppercut and LGUP but without success I manage to start flash process and when it reaches about 50% phone just reboots and flash tool gives error message. Now phone is bricked. I don't now if there are any solutions. Any help is appreciated! Thank you guys! :fingers-crossed:
Keep on charging..
See some post how to enter in download mode (within fraction of second).. use LGUP and flash PROPER ROM..
(I see it was bootlooping.. that it must be charging)
Huge thanks for your reply, well I manage to get to download mode without problem, PC can detect phone as well and I can start flashing process, however with all firmwares I have found I cannot "refurbish" because "refurbished is not supported by that firmware" so I can only select upgrade in LG up. When I start process it goes all the way up to about 50% and phone just reboots back to download mode, after that LG UP moves a few % further reaching about 55% and gives error " invalid response code". I think if I can somehow use that refurbish option to clean flash stock rom , maybe that will be the fix. Thanks again.
I also forgot to mention that when I failed to install stock room with LG up my phone cannot escape download mode, when I force reboot it phone goes again directly to download mode. Probably because there is no OS installed?
Are you sure to using right firmwares for your model?
Thanks for reply. Pretty sure I did use good firmware I found links here on XDA forums and downloaded "H8710d_00_OPEN_EU_OP_0327.kdz" but if I somehow found .tot file would that make a difference and let me to use that "refurbish" option. Thanks everyone for help, very appreciated!

Hi Ray, can you provide me the link of the tot file? I have the same problem
Unfortunately, I think there are no tot files that support refurbish. But after I replaced motherboard regular kdz update flash worked perfectly. I haven't found solution to that problem.
I would suggest you to try your luck if you have unlocked bootloader and try to flash TWRP to get phone back.

HELP!! Back to Stock (I've Read Other Threads)

So im on VS995, trying to get back to stock. Seems pretty simple...except I cant put my phone into download mode. Every time I try, it goes static screen and cant be recognized by computer.
Ive been reading threads for hours and hours now and cant find a solution. I even tried flashify and chasinsu app, but those were dead ends too.
Someone posted to flash the kdz file with fastboot. But i couldnt find any instructions on how to do that.
I only have one day left to return the phone. so im almost out of time.
I know this question has been asked a million times. I really did go through a ton of threads trying to find and answer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First time I have heard of a static screen in download mode, but curious you also state the phone isn't recognized by the pc. Have you tried different usb cables and ports on the pc?
Sent from my LG-H910 using XDA Labs
Search for KDZ extractor and extract the VS995 KDZ for the firmware version you are running. If you can't find a KDZ for the version you are running, you will need to flash a LOT more than this, do NOT flash only these partitions unless it is the exact version...
Once extracted, get into fastboot mode. With the phone off hold vol down and plug in the USB cable.
fastboot flash recovery.image recovery
fastboot flash boot.image boot
fastboot flash system.image system
Reboot your phone. You will still get a warning for now, but you need to make sure your phone boots. If it does, get back into fastboot mode.
fastboot flash aboot.image aboot
Now your phone is back to stock.

it cant be recognized by comp because of the static screen. Ive tried different cables and different computers. I even tried flashing a different rom and kernel just to see if that would make a difference, but still it goes to a static screen 2 seconds after being in download mode.

ill give it a try and see what happens. thanks. But to be clear. i know it came with 10b. But when i rooted and added custom roms, did that change? Do i still need to use the 10b kdz file? Or any KDZ file? The one i downloaded is 14b

Then if runningnak3d's suggestion doesn't work, you probably have a hardware issue

Just so odd. It boots up fine. Just threw on Alpha Rom and flashed custom kernel. No static boot. Its only when i go into download mode.
You get static because download mode uses a kernel that doesn't have the screen init patch that the kernels you can flash have.
Even though you have static, your phone IS in download mode -- trust me, the H910 is the same way (or was on older firmware).
If your phone isn't recognized by LG UP in download mode, then you have a driver issue, or a cable / port issue, and you might not want to use fastboot, because fastboot may recognize your phone, but it has NO error correction, so if you flash with a bad cable, you can brick your phone.
You say you flashed Alpha ROM. Go into settings / about phone / software and determine what version you are on. THAT is the KDZ you need to download. However, I would try to get LG UP to recognize your phone first and just flash the KDZ. Going that route, it can be ANY VS995 KDZ.

If you absolutely can not get LG UP to recognize your phone, post a link to the KDZ that you want to flash, and I will create you a zip that you can flash in TWRP that will take you back to 100% stock.
I really don't want to see you brick your phone.

Thanks. really appreciate it. And I apologize for the late reply. New house. been painting all damn day. I know its way late now, so I understand if I missed my window for getting the zip file from you. Truth be told, I need to return the phone by noon tomorrow. And since its unrealistic (nor do i expect) that you are seeing this message immediately and have time to do the zip file tonight. Chances are, I wont be returning it and just have to throw it up on ebay and hope someone wants to buy a unlocked/rooted v20.
But to answer you...
I know it was on 10b when i first got it. now its showing 1CA.
Even when the comp does recognize it, LGUP gives me an error "cant load the model".
Does it matter what kdz file? 12A is pretty popular, it seems. here is a link for that https://lg-firmwares.com/downloads-file/4889/VS99512A_06_1114_ARB00.kdz.
Turning it into a zip file. Flash in twrp and then what? Use fastboot to relock bootloader?
