New to Samsung - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been a Sony user since 2011 and never tried other brands but now I switched to Galaxy S5 and I'm kinda feel noob now
The model number is "SM-G900F" and I noticed that there are other Galaxy S5 aside from this.
Is the CM12 on official nightlies "klte" is the same for all? or is there a specific baseband for each. I wanna try some kernel and AOSP based rom.
By the way my phone is still on 4.4.2. Ive heard there is 4.4.4 and 5.0.
Im used to doing modding on sony locking unlocking first bootloader before flashing kernel then flash rom. Is there a big difference when it comes to samsung? particularly Galaxy S5

First......DO NOT allow your phone to update to 5.0.0........It REALLY screws things up......
Second......research KNOX as this will have a direct bearing on whether you decide to go the whole custom route or simply just root, debloat, and customise your stock firmware.........

[Q] Any good ROMs for the Samsung Galaxy S5 (AT&T)?

Hello people! Im very new to rooting and flashing roms so could you also assist me on how to do it (like doing a custom recovery/unlock bootloader)? I have the Galaxy S5 ATNT variant and I wonder if you guys have any smooth roms for it. I heard that Cyanogenmod released a klte rom (nightly rom) which is for the Galaxy S5 LTE version and Im wondering if it could function well for my Galaxy S5 G900A. And what are AOSP roms? Are they like stock roms or something close to that? I need it to be less bloated (or not, but has to be faster than stock rom) and a smoother/faster ROM than the Touchwiz (Stock) ROM (And yes I know that it voids your warranty)

you require doing a root and installing safestrap. the at&t kernel/bootloader is locked and encrypted so you cannot flash custom kernels or recoverys. visit the at&t forum for information. i sold my at&t model and bought a sm-g900f because of this.

Rooting Galaxy S5 LTE-A G906K

Hi guys. Been a long time since I've rooted a phone. To be honest, I think the One-X was the last phone I rooted. Anyways, I'm having some trouble, well confused.
I'd like to root my phone, just root. No other ROMs or anything but cannot seem to find a thread to satisfies my phone.
I have a S5 LTE-A, G906K currently on Android 5.0.1 and running lrx22x.g906kktu1bog2 .
But I cannot seem to find anything that matches the lrx22x.g906kktu1bog2 or is this not required and I can just flash using ODIN?
If possible, could you post links thanks.

Rooted S5 on Kitkat, how to do factory reset on KitKat and reroot?

I have an ROOTED AT&T variant Galaxy S5 on Kitkat (4.4.2). Lately, the OS have been freezing up a lot. So I think, it might be best to do a reset/restore to factory default, while staying on KitKat (I would like to use Xposed still and I think it is still not fully working on lollipop). This is my first Android device, so I am unsure what can I do to reset/restore the OS to factory default and reroot it. Can someone give me some instructions?
Also, looking through the AT&T Galaxy S5 Android Development forum, I noticed there are a few custom roms for the AT&T Galaxy S5. Can someone suggest one that would not be as bloaty/freezes up as much as stock? I am looking at a few of the roms on that board and I don't know what to look for.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Active on 4.4.2

Hello,
I recently bought an S5 Active off of Ebay and I'm using the bring your own phone plan on cricket wireless. Currently my phone is on 4.4.2 kit kat, and I know that lollipop has been released for a while, but my phone tells me that it is up to date. Is there any way I can update? I'm completely new to the world of ROMS and all this other stuff, so any help would be appreciated!
I asked this question on toms hardware and got a response saying
"definitely do not upgrade your phone over the air if you have 4.4.2 and it is a galaxy s5.
s5's that are on 4.4.2 kitkat are not bootloader locked and are highly desireable in aftermarket sale. your best bet if you "want" lollipop is to root and do a custom rom like cyanogen 12/13. i think there is even a 6.0 marshmellow rom too.
otherwise if you upgrade to stock over the air 5.0+ you will be bootloader locked, unable to ever revert back to kitkat, and unable to root and do a custom rom. 9 months later and nobody has cracked the bootloader and at this point it is likely nobody ever will with 6.0 marshmellow around the corner.
because of that your phone is probably worth $50-100 more than a 5.0+ s5 for that reason... there are those out there that would love to get their hands on your phone and root it and will pay more since you are still on kitkat and fully unlocked."
Honestly, I have no idea what that means so if anybody could help me out I would greatly appreciate it!
