SAVED $50 from buying from Sprint and using it on Verizon - Nexus 6 General

If you buy the phone on a payment plan with Sprint they only charge you $600 for the phone.. not $650. I got the phone on Tuesday by singing up with Sprint and just paying the sales tax on the phone. Today I paid what I owe on the phone which was $600.00 through the Sprint online customer chat. An hour later I called and canceled my services and the phone showed paid in full. If you do this within a 3 day period you do NOT get charged an activation fee of $35.
So maybe I screwed Sprint out of $50 bucks.. or maybe I didn't. I'll have to see if I ever get some sort of bill.

Flaw in t-mobile and N1 phone?

Im planning to sign up for t-mobile contract and pay 179 for the N1. Once I get the phone, i will cancel the contract on the first day and pay $150 to google. T-mobile should charge me anything because I cancel within the 14 days period. My total cost to obtain the phone is only 329 compared to 529. Anyone see a flaw in this strategy?
Yeah...
If you sign up with T-mo the phone comes locked to T-mo.
PLEASE DO IT!!!!!!!!
Than search google and find this site >>> http://gizmodo.com/5446146/canceling-a-nexus-one-contract-costs-more-than-a-nexus-one
And on another google search (use it, its very useful)
You'll have to pay an Early Termination Fee to both your carrier, and Google.
While your carrier's ETF may vary ($200 for T-Mobile), Google's is equal to the full price of the Nexus One, minus the service plan and the $180 you paid upon signing up. This ETF only applies if you cancel your line within the first 120 days of service. It appears to be set up to make the idea of scamming carriers for cheap phones even less attractive.
Should of told him it was a great idea...

There is more to it than that. If you cancel inside the grace period, you just send back the N1 and pay for days used.
If you do what you want, keep the phone, you also pay T-Mobile a handset recovery fee of $200. So, you would end up paying 529, plus tax, plus proration and your N1 would be locked to T-Mobile.
Sounds like a very flawed logic.
Yeah I was tempted lol
This would work because tmo wont charge an etf if you cancel within 14 days and google will only charge $150 if you keep the nexus.
I was under the assumption that the T-Mobile ETF is only charged after the 14 days?

Exactly. I thought google only charge you 150 for ETF instead of 350. Didnt goodle change the EFT from 350 to 150 couple weeks ago?

Even so, that puts you at $530 (which seems logical but your not gonna make anything and have a lot of extra work)
How did you get 530?. You pay $179 for the phone and 150 for google ETF. Unless t-mobile charge you 200 for ETF but this wouldnt happen because you cancel it within 14days period.

Sorry I put the whole T-Mobile etf...so it comes out too $380 with the $50 T-Mobile etf
You people think found found a loophole in a collaboration between two mega corporations?
T-mobile requires notification from Google that you send the phone back if you wish to cancel your contract.
this is the internet, the land where your good idea was somebody else's idea weeks or months ago...
You guys don't seem to understand...
If you keep the phone after canceling you pay:
$180: Phone
$150: Google ETF
$200: T-Mobile un-returned equipment fee
$?: Prorated usage
Add that up, you get $530, plus the proration, and you have a locked Nexus One.
Now, if you decide you don't like the phone and take advantage of the 14 day return/cancel window and return the phone you pay:
$?: Proration
You don't get any ETF's, or equipment charges(assuming the phone is in like new condition). But you also don't get to keep the phone, and google can charge you a restocking fee (which I think they do, but am not certain, if they do that is another $45 for testing out the phone for a couple days)
Big surprise, Google and T-Mobile are smart enough to prevent you from gaming them. Crazy thought, I know!

I didn't know T-Mobile charged any "un-returned equipment fee". Not that I would try to do anything like this anyway but why would they charge "un-returned equipment fee" if you didn't buy equipment from them? Seems about as shady as somebody buying a subsidized phone just to cancel.

how can u get free activation on htc evo 4GEEEE!

how can i get free activation for the htc evo 4Geee!
any advice guys
or how much is it going to cost or it depends on the store ...........
or is it mandatory they activate it at the store or can u just doit ur self and do it free of charge
Act fee is $36 for new lines and $18 for upgrades... As of now, no corporate Sprint store will sell a "cold" Evo... When you buy, it will be activated in store at time of purchase. The only time there is no activation fee is if you purchase at full retail price.
i called sprint to ask them about adding another line ,and if they would waved the activation fee??we already have 3 lines and 1 airave ,,just renewed 3 lines in march for the hero but now i want the evo?so i told them i just wanted the evo and that was the reason for adding the line, and i wasnt even gon use it,well the rep said that starting july 5th theres a rule that no activation fee would be waved,so i told him to please put a note on my account and he did,,so just call and tell them u want to add another line just for the evo and ur not planing to use it u just want the phone,,,and how great their service is ,,,it worked for me,,,,by the way i ve been with sprint for 6yrs
or if you have a corp discount that has no activation fees.
Credit Union member discount waives act fees, upgrade fees, and is a 10% discount. For new accounts, start with that. Then, after a couple weeks, switch to your larger employer discount (if one applies). If you already have a corp discount larger than 10% on an existing account, dont switch. Not worth it in the long run. However, if your corp discount is 10%, switch to credit union for added savings.
oh ok i see so lets say i preorder at best buy or schack none of them are charging them correct its sprint thats chargeing me right and i get 25% of my bill and phones that i had activated all fees been waived hopefully mine will ima call sprint right now
even if u have a corp account i get the 25% off my bill too and have managed to get activation fees waved but by calling not automatically...
guys i just call sprint and they said i would get free activation so i got that question of mind
did u asked for it ,to be noted in ur account some reps just say yeyes to wathever and than when u call for the credit theres no note and how u track the rep??????so ask for it to be noted and than call later and check...

I'm gonna be signing on with Sprint for the first time when Evo is released. I'll be doing the entire process with Best Buy because that is where is pre-ordered. I called Sprint and I will be getting %17 discount. Do you think Best Buy will be able to apply that for me + waive the activation fee?

The 17% discount is to your bill, not the phone's cost and will be applied to your sprint account. They cannot waive the activation fee either.
Sprint phone rep told me that if you order from the website that there wouldn't be any activation fees. But that means you'd have to actually wait for them to sell it on the website which I guess won't be til the 4th...

Yeah I know that the discount wouldn't go towards to phone. Read from couple of accounts that people got their activation fee's waived because they have a corporate discount. But I know that Sprint is waiving the fee when we deal with them either online or in person.

Fulll 199.99 or into payments?

I just found out last night Radioshack charges the fulll 199.99 for the phone, well in my case 149.99 because I got the $50 gift certicate. My question is, they can't break it down into payments? Or do I have to buy from Sprint? Ive been approved already for Sprint, so what should I do? Go to Sprint and get the phone or go through radioshack? What should I do about this $50 gift certificate which is non refundable?
any place is going to make you pay the outright price for the phone. There's no payment plans. Maybe if you sign up for a RS credit card you can pay it over a couple months, but then you'll be paying interest on it.
What are you? 12? You need to make payments on 149.99? Work a little harder at your lemonade stand this summer and buy one in September or something, Jesus.
If you can't afford the phone now, you probably shouldn't buy one.

Well, seeing as you already paid $50 for the gift card, I'd go with RadioShack. Anywhere you go, you are going to end up paying for the phone outright, unless you can get a RadioShack credit line.
Not my business what your situation is, that you need to break up $149 into payments, but it kind of reminds me of those people who buy expensive cars, yet live in dumpy houses, and can't afford the insurance or gas.

Wirefly, no activation fee, 8/23 only.

For the rest of the day you get no activation fee ($36) when you buy the Epic 4G.
They only charge $239 for the phone to begin with. Given that I live in CA my savings were:
Tax: $28
Activation Fee: $36
Discount: $10
Total: $74 saved
Also I am not sure if I will get it but entering code WIREFLYBLUE22 should give you a free Bluetooth headset. People are reporting a 83% success rate on the site I found the code listed.

the only good thing i see on wirefly is the MIR(or at least they say about it), with sprint you still gotta go thru that annoying process.
anybody know if you can use wirefly to UPGRADE your phone?
Im due for an upgrade with Sprint, but i want to get this price from wirefly.

what should I expect on the release date if I get my phone from sprint? 349.00 then 100.00 MIR? I'm trying to conclude if the wirefly way is a smarter way to go.

Yup, thats going to be your out the door price. You could always try Best Buy or radio Shack to get the instant rebate at the counter
Tax with sprint or any other store at that will charge tax off of the base price not the discounted price I believe, thats over 40 bucks in CA.
So look for no taxes, if you are worried about that.

I bit the bullet with Wirefly. My advice for anyone else considering this option is make sure you understand exactly what they are doing with your Sprint account. Somehow the call center ppl put the wrong plan after I had told them many many times how I wasn't looking to change the plans on my account at all.
Has anyone else had good experiences with this company? They seem like a lot of frustration
Wirefly is sketch. They have this bull**** 6 month rule when you cancel your new contract within 6 months with any of the carriers, then they bill you $300 for "equipment recovery fee". So, for Verizon, I got hit with $375 from Verizon for ETF and $300 from Wirefly for a ****ing Droid 1 that I bought for $189. Do the math. They ****ing tried to rape me. AND, on top of that, they charged $300 to the same debit card I used to do the original transaction about EIGHT MONTHS after I originally did business with Wirefly. They did that illegally without my permission. They had paper billed me for it and I was telling myself "no way they're getting $300 when the phone was only worth $449".. then a $300 charge from "Simplexity" shows up on my bank statement.
Hate Wirefly. And, their "discounts" aren't even ****ing discounts. $10 off a phone? Give me a break.
I got the phone from Wirefly. I knew going into it the 6 month rule and I do not plan on making any changes or cancelling in that time. Also they have a 30 day satisfaction guarantee, so I can return in 30 days without issue.
I know they have a bad rep, but here is why I got it from them anyway.
No tax in California
Amazon only does new contracts
A free bluetooth headset(see OP)
Ships on the 31st
No rebate to deal with, $239.99 was exactly what they charged.

I'm not sure how long it will take, they had a overnight, 2 day, and free shipping options. I went with free. I did notice Amazon says "Ships in 7-8 days" so they are not even shipping on the 31st.
Good luck everyone who went this route. I chickened out and decided to not go with wirefly. I'm glad I didn't, they are sketch and I don't like dealing with online chats and outsourced call centers for "customer support"
Pretty nice feature.

Who else pre orderd from sprint?

Did anyone pre order from sprint? I did mine this morning and i was wondering how much it cost everyone. I was half asleep when i did mine and i just kept clicking next on every page lol. It came out to i think 235 dollars. So im guessing the extra 30ish bucks was an activation fee or something?
I ordered from Sprint as well. Device cost me $199.00, no tax as I'm in DE. But I did an early up grade that cost me $95, then they gave ma a trade credit for my OG of $100, So now I'm at $195. Now take off for the Sprint BB's I traded as well and I'm at $100 for the New EVO. Have not seen it cheaper yet. Think I did alright on this one.
mine came out to be $ 238.74
mine came out to be 217 after taxes, I had an AP exam right when the pre order went up so I couldn't be first
activation/upgrade fee isn't calculated into the purchasing cost, its added to your next bill after you activate it (it comes unactivated) as does the 14 day grace period if anyone was wondering
Mine was 200 and some change.

I used telesales... $217.77
She tried to charge me shipping of $18 (I think it was)
I told her that I didn't want to pay that because when I do the checkout process online shipping is waived.
She waived it.
My sero plan she said incurres no activation fee.
She said the $17.77 was tax.
Interesting...I called this morning and the telesales person was awful. Ended up not ordering.
I called this afternoon and telesales said they couldn't preorder (I'm on SERO) and to do it online.
Couldn't preorder online this morning, could this afternoon, but it indicated I had a $36 activation. Guess I'll try to waive that when I activate.
Mine was $421 I got 2 of them
