Note 4 (N910F) & Whatsapp voice messages issue - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I've noticed that with each voice recording in whatsapp that I send, the first 3-4 seconds of the recording are weaker than the rest of the recording. This only happens with recordings from my device.
I'm running stock 4.4.4 and the latest version of WhatsApp (. 536)
Do you experience something similar?

What?
Anyway.. You're right. This happens only with your device. I don't have this sort of an issue with lollipop on sd805. (was equally good on kk)

Oh, god... I can't believe that I need to RMA it. Oh, god.. Oh, god... My weekend is now ruined!

[Q] Stock Android with couple of select Samsung apps, dream come true

Sorry, this is not a statement rather a wish.
Can anyone guide us noobs and un-initiated S4 owners on how to get stock android on the device and the best samsung apps like the dual camera shot etc working?
I am not a fan of the lag at all. I hate that samsung phones are so sluggish despite their claims of the fastest processors around.
NOTHING BEATS THE NEXUS 4 HANDS DOWN..
Perhaps we can achieve close to the Nexus 4 benchmarks with getting the S4 down to the bare minimum?
Any thoughts?

Benchmarks dont mean jack. If your after numbers go get a Nexus 4. Either use AOSP or a very refined TouchWiz ROM. Also, I must be the only person here in XDA that doesn't have a "laggy" Galaxy S4. My "last year" Note II doesn't even lag so I should see no problem with yours. Maybe its ther user than the phone? Turn S Voice off and make the animation scales all at 0.5x.
AOSP with Samsung wont go. It requires the Samsung framework

I'd like to keep the S4 thanks. The Nexus 4 benchmarks is not what I am after. What I am after is a fast OS which does not lag when moving from screen to screen or doing just the basic functions like going to the call or text app. Have you seen the time it takes to render the photos that the phone itself has taken?
Hit the home button, there is always a half a second lag no matter what.
All animations and S Voice turned off.
Yes, it seems like its the user not the phone in your case too. Have you ever owned a Nexus 4?

Erm, Im a dev for the Nexus 4. So yeah, I have.
Im running stock deodexed with root. Working well and fast

It is set at 0.5x.
Now what?

No lag for me too. Stock Rom. I normally root and start messing as soon as I get a phone but just ha dot felt the need so far, and I got it on launch day!

I also have no lag at all.
I have the device rooted, but I did not remove anything, actually.
I am quite surprised by the responses here.
Since no one has disputed the liquidity and smoothness of the Nexus 4, let me re-phrase my question.
How can we get the S4 to be as fast as the Nexus 4?
I would like to keep the S4 but I want to be as fast as the Nexus 4.
1. Fast fluid response to swiping home sceen
2. no lag when you press apps icon
3. no lag on swiping apps
4. no lag when you press home button
5. no lag in rendering photos in gallery (when you swipe to a new picture, it is blurry for a second or 2 while it renders and then shows full resolution)
6. no lag in phone and messaging apps
All animation fixes and S_voice already done but lag still experienced.
Please advise.

Why would he do that when the S4 has significantly higher results in all benchmarks?
Im confused as well I am sorry I do not understand why you would want the S4 to be like the Nexus when the S4 has no issues I have 3 S4s they are all smooth with no lag and run fast between screens going on the web all is well here..........I haven't even rooted my phone yet lol

I think you fail to realise that there is a significant lag in all S4s, you are immune to it because you don't know any better.
Can someone respond to the points I have made above ?

[Q] Odd sound......

A few times today I was showing people my new Note 3.
It is completely stock and running Touchwiz launcher.
However, after putting it back on the table it made a strange beeping sound as if it had a new notification.
I've not heard this sound before and haven't since.
There was nothing running only the home screen.
Anyone else experienced this?

I've never used NFC before so I'm not sure how that works (before the Note 3 I was using S2), but I know the S3 has NFC. Maybe Note 1 too. Coulda triggered something I suppose?
Bump your phones and see if it makes same sound.
I hear that sound too... like bird chirping (in whistle tone). 3-4 times in total of 5-6 minutes. But there was no notification at all.
And I don't not have any other devices near it... so no NFC issue possible.

Improvments after 4.3 update (i9505)

Hello!
What about camera after update ?
Does it focus faster?
For me, this phone's camera and touchwiz lags are the reasons to keep nexus 4 insted of using sgs 4.
Thank you
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
almost nothing changes!!
i tried it. but after see it's slow as always i installed a non-TW rom.
Me too... I play a lot with my sgs4 but every time I hold my nexus 4 in the hands I see how fast it is... its like the sgs is a year behind...

Yeah. But you should try Google edition I9505 rom. It is nearly as smooth as my Nexus 4. Just a bit slower. Way smoother than CM and Sammy's rom.
Samsung should really scrap touchwiz.its really horrible
nothing really changed, i bet it was just an update to destroy peoples root access.

Advice please

Hello Xda members, I currently have i9300 (S3) and willing to go for a high end phone, I am amazed with Note 3 specs and S-pen, but shocked about how people say both N9000 and N9005 lag and they drop frame while playing games, would like to know your opinions and recommendations for other phone to buy, thank you in advance.
No lag or dropped frames ever for me, only game I play is Dead Trigger 2 and it runs perfectly.
By the way, why are you posting here if you want a recommendation for a device that isn't going to be a Note 3??

No lag on my device.
Ever since I use it on MJ7 4.3 stock non-rooted, NB7 4.4.2 stock non-rooted and rooted, NC2 custom ROM. All no lagging, and to be frank eversince 4.4.2, the device even smoother.
The best phone in my opinion of all Samsung phone currently, in terms of smoothness and battery. You won't regret to buy. If your country have N9005 (LTE), you better by this one, as snapdragon has more support on this Note 3 forum, because more ppl use it compare to the exynos. But if your country only have N900, then no choice.
PS :
If you ever buy it, first thing that you have to do is download the multitouch test app from google play, and try to touch by 10 fingers (and try to move the 10 fingers around the screen. The 10 fingers should be still detected wherever you move them, then your screen is okay). If got problem, return it direct. This Note 3 device has issue with its multitouch screen, other than that, all are good. :good:
Cheers.
The note 3 camera has problems. The wi-fi and/or GPS interfere with it in normal light and mostly in low light conditions showing up as horizontal lines on screen and when you take the picture. I was expecting a much better camera on a 700€ phone and it has made me question if i'll ever buy a samsung product again.
My stylus has been used a total of maybe 3 times. Never touched it again.
The rest is all great.

Just to feedback, my camera doesn't have the problem you have mentioned earlier
My wifi is on, and GPS on all the times, just try to take picture on a low light conditions. No horizontal lines on screen nor on the pic taken.
Cheers.
No issues here whatsoever. Well worth it
Love the Spen, but then I'm a Wacom Intuos user so it's second nature to me to use a pen.

You pay 700 euro for the phone, not the camera. Do some basic research into sensor chips before you blather on about camera quality in smartphones. I've explained it numerous times.
I have problems with wifi and mobile network on at the same time! I also have problems with lines when taking a photo in low light! It's only a couple of months old could I address these problems if I root and use a custom rom? I love this phone I've had most galaxy's and I wanna keep it should I root?

Actually he has a point, picture quality aside the camera shouldn't have weird artifacts if WIFI or mobile data are on. That is clearly a build issue.

Clearly not, as I currently have Wifi, GPS, Mobile Data and NFC enabled, and experience no such issue on any camera app, including stock.
(Unless I point at a fluorescent lamp, which is something even my 1800 euro EOS 70D does.)

I think we both had a bit of miscommunication there. Most Note 3's had this issue, mine used to as well on 4.3. Since the update NB7 4.4.2 it's gone.

does the problem occured since D1 you use ?
If so, you should contacted samsung earlier before you root and KNOX it off.
But if only happen after u use custom ROM, perhaps you would like to change to others.

and if you are on 4.4.2 and still have the issue, and you haven't rooted, why don't go to the service center. claim from them, since some of us not experience it (especially after 4.4.2).
But u r on NB7 or later? or earlier? if earlier, try to update to NB7 first, and see how.
Sorry not sure what NB7 means does this help identify what I need to know

yes you are on NB7.
so I guess your choice is to go samsung and claim from them
or maybe wait for someone who knows better, because I have never experienced this thing since 4.3 MJ7.

[Q] Any launch day Note 3's running Lollipop? Issues?

Looking to update, wondering if there have been any issues with launch day notes like there were with the kitkat upgrade. I need Lollipop for Android Auto

Awesome to hear, any loss of signal? Can you tell me what you did to upgrade?

Signal is just as good as JB if not better for me. And to update I just odin stock 4.4.2 NC4 from sammobile then re root and update safestrap to 3.75. And if you need anymore help all the videos you need are on this page https://www.youtube.com/user/SurgRisesUrg?app=desktop

I have 2 day one note 3's. One was on JB rooted, mine on NC4 safestrapped. My signal was pretty bad, but my wife's was fine on JB. updated both to jasmine stock 5.0.1 rooted and her signal is just as good as it ever was, but mine improved IMMENSELY after the update. I have better signal, and 3g/4G handout is much smoother.
Awesome guys, thanks for the info. Looks like I need to upgrade...

success
Upgraded just fine, all is good so far. Thanks for the input guys!
I found 1 issue. May just be me since I use the VZW Note 3 on T-Mobile. When I'm talking to an automated system and it wants me to press a button, it will not recognize it if my speaker phone is on. If speaker phone is off, it works fine.
No direct access to microSD under Lollypop
Still no access to apps and games, no way to move photos and music onto microSD without connecting to PC.
Launch day Note 3 here. Upgraded from NK1 then did a factory reset. No obvious issues until the first week in. Phone is noticeably snappier.
1. Samsung keyboard occasionally force closes. Once a week roughly, and I restart my phone every 48 hours.
2. Google play services random force closes-rare.
3. This has only happened once, but YouTube displayed all green while the audio was normal. Both in landscape and portrait mode. During this time, Netflix wouldn't play anything. Samsung Video player would crash as would VLC. A reboot fixed this..
4. The phone seems to switch to 3g at around -110DB now instead of -120. Cool story! This means instead of 1 bar of LTE at work I get 3g. Great. I get a weak signal outside my office building anyway, so no surprise but..
I ran Lollipop for a few weeks then went back to 4.4.4 because of these bugs...and the HIDEOUS orange in the messages app. Yes, I know I could've used another SMS app. I'll go back to Lollipop if/when they straighten this out in the next build (which the note 3 may very well not see for months)
