[Q] strangest wakelock can't figure it out? - Galaxy Tab 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i have the strangest wakelock i can't figure out why it is happening.
I have a samsung tab 4 7 inch and i use wakelock detector to work out what is causing my phone not to sleep. i charge my tablet on and off when needed and from time to time for some inexplicable reason it refuses to sleep after i unplug it from the charger (but not every single time! only once or after a second charge) i can't figure out the pattern, i charge it once and unplug (by unlocking screen first always then unplug to eliminate that wakelock) and it'll be fine, then maybe my second charge that day i'll unlock it after waking it up first and then it'll have a massive no sleep time all red on wakelock detector.. i can't figure it out?
i thought maybe the usb port may be slightly damaged but even when i use a different charger and samsung cable the waklock does not go away it's completely red almost. the only thing that seems to fix it annoyingly is restarting the phone and then using adb terminal services and using the wakelock detector instructions how to use it with kitkat (it requires adb terminal stuff), after that it sleeps perfectly but this is really annoying having to do it every day or so plugging it into a laptop and running adb services and terminal.
can anyone explain why this fixes it and what is happening?
i've tried several things which don't work which normally work on my other samusng devices, powering up in flight mode with wifi off then switching wifi on.. doesn't work. trying a different charger different cable. same issue.
the wakelock it says which is causing the issue is powermanagerservice.display
could it be the pins in my samsung cable that's doing it?
i did notice it happened once on my notepro 12.2 too with same wakelock.. maybe because once it's there no matter what cable i use it stays until i clear it, but like i said i can charge it again with same cable and charger and it'll be fine, but then if i do it a second time later or third the issue comes back.. inexplicable.

is it possible wakelock detector is actually causing the wakelock when it's unplugged from the charger.. sometimes i get sec-battery-monitor as a high wakelock.
i honestly dont know why running adb terminal services fixes the wakelock and let's the tablet sleep?
can anyone shed light on this? it's very annoying having to keep running adb terminal services to kill a wakwlock especially if i am out and about with my tablet, i purposely bought the tablet so i wouldn't need to bring my netbook anymore.
it's weird it'll show 98% awake then suddenly if i plug it into my netbook and run adb terminal services etc the thing is fixed and it's like 95% green asleep. im not sure whether if i just plug it into the pc it'll fix it when i unplug without adb services
but it doesn't make sense, if the cable is damaged or the pins etc surely it would happen every time. this must be the weirdest wakelock issue around, thank god i managed to find a fix by accident otherwise i would have a tablet which would never ever sleep no matter what i did, reboot, unlock screen before unplug, flight mode reboot, nothing works at all except plygging it in running adb services to get wakelock detector to work.

Is it possible that i have a loose connection or something? Im using an oem cable only i tried changing the cable to a different one and seems ok so far but then it popped up again not sure why.
It charges perfectly but could when i remove the cable it still thinks it's plugged in?
It happens so randomly i can't predict but nothing fixes it not a reboot not into flight mode reboot or plugging back in with different cable unlock screen then unlock it literally will not go away unless i plug it into my laptop amd run adb services to get wakelock detector to run.
Im worried it might be the usb port that's damaged somehow where it does not recognise when the cable is removed? Is this possible? It charges fine but even with a different cable oem it does not clear the wakelock once it's happened. Like i say only plugging into adb services and then it's fine so maybe it's not a damaged usb port or connection?

This is so baffling i tried the above to no avail. I try switching off wifi before discon ect same issue it seems to crop up every 2 days inexplicably and like i say the only thing which fixes it is if i go into adb terminal and following the instructions to setup wakelock detector whcih is very inconvenient.
Could the pins i the microusb port be damaged slightly that's causing the wakelock?
Like i say after charinging unplugging a few times after using adb there's no issue but when it crops up and i try to unplug the wakelock remains and it's majority red i try again still red i could try plugging and unplugging several times to test it but yet it does not go away
What could be going on?

[Q] Nook Simple Touch not responding?

This was what happened - my N2T went dead, and I charged it up to 100%. It has previously been rooted with TouchNooter, and since my market wouldn't open, I overrooted it with TouchSalsa. Or so I remember. It may be different. I just remember that I used 2 different roots over each other. Didn't think anything would happen...
Anyways, all was fine and dainty with the N2T till the day the battery's charge was depleted. Charged it to full - Battery Indicator went green - and then proceeded to unlock it.
It was still responding at the lock screen, but once I unlocked it, it went straight to my Android home screen, and it just hanged. It has been showing the Android homescreen for quite a while now (probably due to the static e-ink screen, I believe it has died for a long long time), and nothing I do will make it reboot. I thought about forcing the battery out, but it was not user removable.
n2T-recovery wouldn't work too, as I can't make it reboot.
Any answers as to how I could make it rebott and/or restore the firmware like how I could force an iDevice into DFU mode?
Any help would be appreciated, as I imported this device into my country and it is not possible for me to send it back .
If anyone has encountered this problem before, feel free to shout out here too. My Nook Simple Touch has died for around 2 weeks now. I was hoping that the battery would run out and I could charge it but.... the battery indicator STILL shows green when I plug it in.
Also, whenever I plug it into my computer, the connected sound that happens when you plug in a USB drive just sounds - followed immediately by the disconnect sound. This happens in a loop until I plug out the Nook.

Same issue, i already open the cover and remove battery, the screen still display screensaver. Then I plugged NT into wall charger , then removed (to try make it reboot). Plugged battery into again but , plugged charger . But nothing happened, still the same.
Any other solution?
Just a hint: It appears that the Nook won't boot without the battery in.
I don't know if it's an interlock with the temperature sensor on the battery.
The chip that does the power management is capable of powering a CPU with a dead/shorted/missing battery.
Guess no one had a similar issue?
It is the same with my NST. It was bricked when I root it back to factory restore. The battery light is green, do everything you did to the battery, still no respond. I am not in the US so I can not take my NST to the local B&N store.
I get my NST only 1 week...
PS:Finally I get my NST back following this thread

After root USB, disconnect/reconnect problem

I just rooted by phone with this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45692679
(basically replace a file g2_security on the sdcard and reboot)
After the root was complete and I'd rebooted the phone a couple times, my USB connection keeps getting lost. This started exactly after the root, so I assume it's somehow related. Has anyone else seen this problem?
So far my attempt to fix it has only included disabling usb debugging and changing the usb mode to charge only. Other suggestions welcomed.
Try changing USB cable

Did you have any luck resolving this?
I'm having this problem with one of my chargers, and when I plug the phone into a computer it says charging but the battery doesn't move at all.

Similar issue with mine after root. Regardless of what setting its on it will charge through the Aux but wont play music through apps like it did before in my car. Music will come out of the speakers but the car wont recognize the phone. Shows "AUX not recognized" Might go back to stock to see what it was.
I am having issues charging as well.
This morning the phone while showing the charge icon in the battery display only was at 55%. I noticed by accident that when the screen is off and I get a notification via text or mail that charging quits. The icon shows as if it charging but the red LED no longer is visible and if you have the screen on long enough the % begins to decrease. I have to unplug and plug again for the charging to take hold.
Would anyone else mind testing a text when the screen is off, charger on and see if this disables their charge?
My problem seemed to stop after a few hours.. I don't know what changed. The host computer didn't reboot, the phone did reboot maybe another time or two, the cable stayed the same. No idea what happened.

[Q] Not recognized by computer, Red dot of death

Ok so:
Had CM 10.2 nothing else crazy (unlocked/rooted)
One day wifi started acting up (kept dropping) and USB started not being recognized.
Decided that maybe software might be acting up, switched to PA 3.99RC2: FUll Wipe, reinstall
Next day riding out to a meeting phone starts rebooting randomly while running Google maps and music
Keeps locking up and rebooting
Getting really hot
Turn phone off, go to meeting
Phone will not turn back on (solid red dot by usb)
Go home
Recovery no go, phone will not charge on wall or USB charging at all.
Red dot comes on when plugged into wall then turns off after about 30min, plugging/unplugging turns the solid red dot on again.
Put on wireless charger, for an hour
Phone boots up, at 60% charge
USB only charges phone does not send any kind of signal that it is there, no windows sound, nothing in device manager
No charging light at all, but the icon shows as charging.
Have airdroid installed, might try stock google, but it looks like something hardware related.
Has anyone experienced something similar?
Since I don't have ADB working how do I return to stock? (I presume unpackage the distro, airdroid them over, and then install individually?)
I called Google and they say that if they deem that the phone works, not only will they keep the phone I sent them, but they will also charge me for another nexus 4, this is kinda BS and wiht the Nexus 5 around the corner it seems even more BS.
Not sure what to do, as I have about another 1.5 weeks of warranty left. The USB seems jacked up but I am not sure if there are other diagnostics to confirm.

Thanks for the tip, I was just wondering how this sort of malfunction happens. I never really used the USB port after I got wireless charging, so maybe some light dropping? I dunno

Issue with battery, device requiring charger in order to turn on, and USB port acting

Ok so I will try to list the symptoms as clear as possible. However, first is the back story. I bought a new, official oem N7, battery for my tablet. I installed it and it powered on perfectly. I did a factory reset, attached it to my Gmail account, downloaded and setup Torque (because I'm using the tablet to monitor my car's engine). The tablet worked flawlessly for about 1.5 hours. Then it suddenly turned off. The next thing I know it boots up and goes to a screen with a bunch of static. My main problem is that now the tablet will not power on unless it is plugged in. It's as if the battery is now DOA. When I plug the tablet in to my computer I hear the plug/unplug noise over and over and over and over again. It's as if I am plugging and unplugging the tablet over and over again.
I have already tried the battery connection fix. That does nothing to fix my issue.
Has anyone else ever had this kind of issue or have any advice?

Moisture In USB Port Warning

So yesterday my phone started freaking out. It started flashing the usb notification and sound as if I was plugging in the phone and unplugging it rapidly, even thought I was plugging nothing in. To see what happen if I actually did plug something in I tied pluggin in the power adaptor and I got the "Moisture In USB Port" warning. My phone has not come into contact with any moisture, and even it somehow had it has been nearly 24 hours and I still get the warning when I try to plug it in. The rapid usb notification happened once again this morning but hasn't happened again since. What is going on? I can't charge my phone unless I turn it off.
I just started getting the same message. No moisture at all.

Same situation here. I tried to put G6 in a rice over night, without help.
Also I put my device on a coffee machine several hours to get rid of "phantom moisture", without any results at all. I think it's now software related problem.
By the way i can't charge my battery over 50%, to charge it until 50% I need to restart device with attached USB. By the way notification with vibration effect every second is freaking me out.
If someone find any solution please share...

I took my phone to spain and it had loads of sand on it by the beach. I couldn't charge due to the moisture warning for 3 days. Eventually i found a solution. I loaded that sink with about 2/3rds water. I swilled only the port area in the sink. I then dried the phone as well as possible. I screwed a thin tissue paper up and dabbed round the port. I then found a rectangle piece of card (it was a clothes price tag) it was probably 1 millimetre thick and i pushed it in deep into the usb port to aid cleaning using the corners of the tag. It solved the issue and didnt break anything and cleaned out some of the deep sand and cotton that wasnt drying at 30 celicus heat this week. Saved me claiming on my insurance and the headache of installing all my apps etc. Try it, but be very careful with the card tag as you dont want to break any terminals in the usb slot.
I had the same issue as the original poster about a month ago. I have spent the last few weeks testing and found that for me changing developer settings back to "charging" from "file transfer" has worked. Not saying it will work for you but give it a try!
Having the same issue now. No reason to think much moisture got in. Sat it in rice, etc. Haven't tried washing the port. Anyway, I can charge if I turn on airplane mode then boot into safe mode holding volume down plus power. The moment I plug in, it powers on unless the battery is totally dead. And it never charges close to full even then without the above workaround. Planning on taking the phone in. It's annoying, and my battery life seems shorter with the constant almost-notifications (which started out looking like they came from a variety of apps). Hopefully there's an official solution.
i restarted the phone and it worked
I posted about this a while back and couldnt figure it out so i exchanged for a new one
I would say various kinds of debris could get in the charging port and have enough conductivity to be detected as water. I always hated USB port covers, but at least they prevent this problem.
Fix for moisture detected
The contacts in the usb c are loose and may be cross connecting. I fixed mine by taking the charge cable type c end and squeezing them lightly with needle nosed pliers so the flat sides were BARELY concave. This fixed the problem and I am able to use the original cable to fast charge again.

This kinda sorta is working for me. I can slowly move an unplugged USB cable in the port and trigger the notification pop up. As opposed to constantly this now happens intermittently. It started after getting my phone wet. 1 bowl of rice later and the moisture error is gone, but the USB debugging notification appears and disappears rapidly every so often.
Moisture issue, nothing is working?
Reboot with it already plugged in does not help. My phone will NOT stay off now? Every time I select "power off" it restarts as soon as I plug it in. I have no clue what to try now. Seeing if draining my battery will help. Light moisture contact days ago but nothing more than droplets.
For those who're still having issues, the following worked for me:
1. Power off the phone and then power it back on. (This alone should help but if you have power savings mode enabled, carry out step #2)
2. If you have power savings enabled, turn it off and then power the phone off and back on.
I've got the same message after swimming with G6, I've tried to toggle the usb connection port and try to charge it while off / shutdown.. And it works
I've had the same problem. Moisture warning while it's not the case. Lated 3 days and suddenly it was gone. Phone restarted also when trying to charge with power off. Sometimes after couple of restarts it would load. And connecting the cable very shortly helped also someone. It seems to me that it is a bug in the devices because we are not alone with this problem
At least you aren't alone
Same problem happened to me. It was a slow over a week process. First a flashing usb icon I had never seen before then every one in awhile the usb moisture warning started popping up here and there. Still I'm not alarmed. Flash forward to a week later (today) and not only can't I charge my phone passed 4% (after the airplane mode trick seemed to have worked but only briefly) I brought it to Verizon I tried wirelessly charging and using two other corded charges and nothing would make it less than 2 hrs and 30 mins charge time then it's turn on and just die again. Employee was familiar with the prob gave me the warranty # and ill have my new phone tomorrow. In the mean time I've discovered of the 5 places i tried to charge my phone including the Verizon store all power sources were ports or extension cords etc . I found that plugging it into the wall outlet works. Shocker right? Well I hope that the make sure its charger to outlet revelation for myself helps others as they wait for the new phones...
I plugged my phone into a computer USB port and switched the USB options to Charge Only and Always and the moisture warning went away.
Had this problem for more then month, and this is how I managed to get rid off that moisture message.
1: Go to Apps>Configure Apps (3 dots menu in upper right corner)>Special access>Modify system settings>Show system (3 dots menu in upper right corner)>LG System server - turn off "Allow write system settings"
2: Apps>Show system (3 dots menu in upper right corner)>LG System server - Turn on "Silent"
Of course, you must be 100% sure that is false message about moisture in USB port
