Hello! New to the LG G2 (801 version). I'm a noob and been reading all about the different ROMs, but it's getting overwhelming. I just want something simple...
stable
great battery
WIFI working
GPS working
possibly Knock code (but not 100% necessary)
I can adjust to anything else. I'm having a lot of trouble trying to figure out the differences between CloudyFa's releases. Practical day to day differences? Bug differences? CloudyG3 vs Cloudyflex vs Cloudystock?
Thanks in advance!

CloudyG3 is a G3 Port with extra features.
CloudyFlex is a G Flex Port with extra features.
CloudyStock is based on Stock Android with extra features.
You'll notice that CloudyG3, CloudyFlex and CloudyStock are all STABLE releases and provide all of your prerequisites.
My recommendation? Try them all.. use one ROM each week for 3 weeks and decide which one you liked the most, or which ROM caused you the least amount of trouble. Just because you don't know a lot about ROMs in general doesn't mean you should just stick your hand up and be told what to do to your phone. Experiment with different ROMs and find what YOU are happy with.

Totally agree cloudy is the most stable and fastest rom out there +1

Hello all,
I've recently bought a LG G2 (D802). I've seen that there are a few ROMs which have been adapted from the G3 model to the G2: Cloudy G3, Optimus G3 and Lam Hoang G3. I have had a look to this last one and there are still some issues with the ROM.
I wonder whether it's really worth it to install one of these ROMs or it would be enough just installing G2 Exposed and changing the theme to look like the G3 one?
Obviously there are some other differences like some new applications. However since they are both based on Android 4.4.2 I don't see how much difference there could be if I use Xposed.
Here are some of the pros and cons I can see:
G3 ROMs over stock:
Camera
Keyboard
UI (G2 can be adapted to look almost the same as G3 (Tweaks box + G3 theme) though)
Less bloatware as custom ROMs get rid of them in most cases
Smart notice (is it good?)
G2 stock over G3 ROMs:
Most stable software
Less risk of virus in your phone (if you install a custom ROM you don't really know if the person who built it put some spyware in it)
Official updates (I guess official G3 ROMs won't get official updates)
Are there any new applications/features apart from above which make worth it installing these ROMs? Maybe performance benefits?
*This is not a thread to discuss whether it's good or not making custom ROMs. In fact, I want to say thanks to all those developers who spend hours trying to bring something better to our phones.
Thanks,
Javier
I too am interested in hearing responses to this. I previously came from a galaxy s3 (d2spr) and I thought many roms were worth installing on that device as many actually improved either functionality, battery life, or performance. But with my g2, I'm really content with the stock kk. I've heard the camera on the g3 roms is pretty awesome, but I've also heard of issues with hdr not working. Can't wait to hear responses.
I'm on stock, rooted rom, g2 tweaksbox, g3 theme and the camera tweak which adds some features.
It's a great way to go, everything works like a charm.

You won't find a single rom that doesn't have someone complaining of issues. So far though CloudyG3 1.2 has been exceptionally stable and pretty much fully functional. Even stock has its quirks in terms of issues.
I use Cloudy G3 1.2, and after a few tweaks, it runs pretty damn smooth. I like it over stock!
Using OptimusG3 and everything is smooth as butter!
I like to add one more candidate for a G3 rom: lamhoang G3 FINAL
https://translate.googleusercontent....4358/&usg=ALkJrhiaba6cK0mY2Vsbrcc3aGQFUPvzdg
The 1st fully deodexed art compatible rom, its very snappy and i find it the best of the G3 ports so far.
I think lamhoang rom eats battery very much

No, i getting excellent battery life on the Lamhong roms.
8+ hours screen on my 802 and 6+ hours on the 320k
OptimusG3 V1.2
Hi,
I'm running OptimusG3 v1.2. In the beginning tried CloudyG3.
I started experimenting with G3 ROMs since it's G3 has nicer interface than G2 ROMs. It has G3 camera and keyboard. It has also G2 FM Radio apk. CloudG3 has G3 FM radio apk that crashes.
Overall good ROM but battery live could be better when you use it, In stand by is OK.
I tried the G3 rom for a few days but ultimately went back to stock rooted. The flatter, minimal theme of the G3 looks great, but that was about it. I have the VS980 which isn't fully supported for the G3 rom (yet) so I had minor data/mms issues and poorer battery life. Plus, I think the camera on the G3 is a downgrade compared to the G2 - less features/options, and pictures seemed to look a little worse.
For now, I use Nova with a G3 theme, and G2 Xposed/Tweakbox to mimic some other aspects of the interface (notification toggles, status bar tint, etc)
I'm running CloudyG3 and i'm really enjoying it so far, the new 1.2 update added all the missing things so now im super happy

Depends. Roms can be built from modded stock roms. It could be argued that removing bloat will result in a more stable rom.
Less risk of virus in your phone (if you install a custom ROM you don't really know if the person who built put some spyware in it)
Well, we KNOW of carriers that add spyware to our phones. Also, many devs post their source, so there's that...
Official updates (I guess official G3 ROMs won't get official updates)
Does this even matter when you can just update the custom ROM? You want the latest carrier update that bad, you'd only have to wait a couple hours.
G2 can be adapted to look almost the same as G3 (Tweaks box + G3 theme)
This is more a lack of a con than a plus.
Are there any new applications/features apart from above which make worth it installing these ROMs? Maybe performance benefits?
Thanks,

For Camera, you can install xdabbeb's camera. I read a couple of days ago that there will be an update and that his camera will be available in apk.
For the Keyboard, you can install the LG G3 keyboard as an apk http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2793602

Does the camera launch directly from the volume down button when using the shortcut?
I mean does it turn the screen on too, so you can snap a picture?

my eyes hurt... ever heard of punctuation?
i think lg did a good job with g3 stock but apart from the interface which looks more flat, you don't get too much over stock g2.
Hi everyone,
i'm thinking about buying a LG G2, i've read many topics about it but i still have some questions:
currently i have a galaxy S3 with a rooted stock room, and using powersaving mode and greenify to reduce battery usage
i am attracted by the G2 because of its specs and battery life, but it seems to have a lot of problems with kitkat update... ?
I didn't find any stock kitkat rom for G2 without bug, am i right ?
how about the cloudyG3 rom ? I don't want to flash and test many roms, in fact i just would like an updated rom with acceptable features and a very good battery life,
So i need your help my friends
thanks in advance

I don't know if there has been that many problems with KitKat and G2. The one that has affected me was the sound bug - hissing and weird noices when using headphones. That bug wasn't noticable to most users - it seemed to only affect or being noticed by them that used certain headphones (in my case AKG K551). The irritating thing with that one was that LG didn't seem to be able to fix it. They released new versions that made it a bit better but not good so to speak. I switched to using custom ROMs and Kernels because of it and got rid of the problem that way.
There are some very good ROMs out here. I've tried Cloudy Stock, Cloudy Flex and Pardus HD sensation and they were all good. I kind of liked Cludy Flex and Pardus HD Sensation best because they use a black color background to the screens. I've also tried both Cloudy and Optimus G3 ROMS, but my thought is that they are made for a different set of hardware and needs to be ported to G2 and that makes them a bit more suspicious to having bugs. so if you don't desperately want the G3 interface I would stick to one that is more specific to G2. I'm sure some one else will ha another opinion.
I've used Dorimanx's kernel more or less all the time. No sound bug there!
The G2 is a great phone with fantastic battery time - I truly recommend it!
thanks for your reply,
how about the battery life ? did you see any improvement with those custom roms ?
and finnaly how can i find the last and the best stock rom ? (i am afraid about the sound bug and the battery drain)
thanks a lot
I'm not sure were you got the problem with battery drain from. The battery time is great on the G2 (compared to most other phones). I can't say that I've noticed any differences in that aspect between the different ROMs. It's more a matter of what you choose to activate on your phone(as usual). High performance location service, WIFI, Google Now etc. So the more you activate the faster the battery will run out. The custom ROM:s also allow the use of tuning between performance and battery time.
If you want the most stock like experience I suggest using Clody Stock or Pardus Classic ROM. Both can be combined with the Dorimanx kernel.
G2 plus Cloudy's G3 rom has been amazing. Throw in G3 tweakbox and hold on!
thanks i will try it,
have you seen any bugs or battery drain with those roms ?
U can grab the whole info here :-

If you want to keep the mst stable and stock possible debloated with perfect battery life, then sotmax 9+ stock rom is the perfect choice combined with bruce kernel

No real KitKat problems here. Take a look at the specs, view some reviews on youtube and choose it... or not.
If you trust an guy who says "Flash a G3 rom" then buy a G3... But get a phone just for to use a ported ROM doesnt makes any sense to me. Even tho "G3 roms are best" isnt even a valid reason, read thru the G3 port threads and see the bugs etc. I prefer to use a Stock based ROM (Bruce, pardus or even pure stock rooted) and read into the threads (we all have done it - even me, i have my G2 for around 5-6 months now and i finally found my prefered ROM > BruceROM with his own kernel, so it might take some time to find your prefered ROM because there are plenty of choices, but if you are stock lover, just try the stock ones). With ported ROM's you always take the risk of bugs and the current builds are bugged, believe it or not. LG did a GREAT job on stock and 20F is almost perfect (at least for me). If you're a AOSP lover, there are good choices aswell, but i highly prefer a Nexus device if you are a hardcore AOSP user tho.
And dont take arguments like "G3 Roms are best because of UI" too serious, because i dont choose a Phone cuz of its UI...
Thanks everybody for your advices, @kewkie: thank you specially, that's exactly what i was looking for, i will look for the 20F,
in fact i would prefer the nexus 5, but the 3000mAh battery of the G2 makes me prefer the G2
Hey there guys, I will be quite simple with this one
I love the design of this phone and also the battery + camera (those are my main reasons)
I'm getting my G2 on friday! and I normally go with custom roms (although with htc one m7 I stayed in stock because the camera quality loss (due to no libs) was huge)
does this happen also with LG G2?
Is there a considerable quality loss of taking pictures when you move to a custom rom?
What about the excellent battery? does it gets even better on custom rom?
Thanks for your answers!

There might be a little tiny bit, but with the 13mp, you have to zoom in quite a bit more to see noise or blurriness than with the M7. I use PA rom and i have no problem with cameraquality.
I'm new here too, there are 2 kinds of most used roms, stock roms and AOSP or CM roms I can tell you that if you want a good camera use stock custom roms, because AOSP rom's camera doesn't have all Lg features, but if you want better battery maybe the double of screen on time, use AOSP roms, for stock roms I recommend you the Cloudy ones for example, and for AOSP, Mahdi Rom is the one I use when I'm not on stock rom, try them out and decide by yourself,

i know flex has a darker theme, but bar that. is there any features that make you want one over or the other or all mainly the same?

Basically:
CloudyStock = Optimized LG Stock ROM (Plain vanilla and optimized LG Rom)
Cloudy G Pro2 = Optimized G Pro 2 ROM (some stock apps and functions not present on other LG roms)
Cloudy Flex = Optimized LG Flex ROM (It has a dark interface due to the fact that the Flex has an AMOLED screen which benefits from a dark UI). * my favourite ROM *
Theres actually a third installment called Cloudy G3 which is basically an LG G3 ROM port.
Cheers!

LG stock roms are awesome in general, but there's always room for improvement, starting from the de-bloating of carrier specific stuff and other optimizations throughout.
Quite honestly I recommend you to flash them all and try them for yourself. I don't recall the specific differences, but I did try them all, including CloudyG3, and found CloudyFlex the best of them.
Cheers!

Hi, im looking for a fastest ROM for our G2, i want to have ~5h SOT and good stability. Anybody know what is the best?
Many opinions here, in terms of speed stock LP is the slowest for me and aosp nougat the fastest. I definitely recommend aospextended3 and you can flash a custom kernel of you want more options specifically to save battery.
AOSP Extended v3.0 for sure!
I have G2 for almost one year, and still didn't flashed any custom ROM. But its rooted and have custom recovery.
I would like to try something at least 6.x+
What do you suggest guys?
I want stable, as much as possible bug free ROM. I do NOT need all the world customization options, or things like that. I will be fine with some basic stuff, yeah.
I wanted to give a try to Exodus ROM, but I waited for them to fix WIFI connect from list bug, but that will never happen, as they are stopped developing MM.
Camera and back led is not my main concerns, but I would like to have normal sound in Calls, Hotspot, NFC, Radio, Bluetooth and IR if possible And OK battery -> ~4 SOT like on this stock LP. Does I want too much?
Thank you.
I would recommend linage os 14.1. im using this rom very stable i dont find any issue for now. Sorry for my bad english.
