I used to use Automatica Autotether to turn on my S5 Hotspot when my phone connected to the bluetooth of my car. Unfortunately, since the lollipop update - that app no longer works. I tried to set up a tasker solution for it as well, but for some reason I can't get tasker to turn on the hotspot either.
Does anyone know of another app or tasker script that would enable the hotspot when bluetooth connects?
Has anyone figured this out yet? I think tasker might be my best option..

I think Llama would do the same as tasker if tasker is too complicated.
It's not that Tasker is too difficult - it's that it physically can't turn on the hotspot.. even with Secure Settings. I tried Llama just now and it has the same issues as tasker and AutoTether. Samsung changed something between KK and Lollipop that keeps us from turning it on.
Is there anyway to sniff what the activity name is once it starts? I maybe could write a specific action from tasker if I can find out the action name inside the activity. I have a feeling that they just renamed it with Lollipop update.
No Google Maps audio through vehicle speakers
Having similar issue with Bluetooth since the latest Verizon update on my GS5 - I'm no longer getting audio cues from Google Maps through my Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Shame on me for trusting these people with improving the user experience.
Please post solution if anyone figures this out. I have the same problem with my note 3.

Dear XDA folks,
a bit of a story about what the problem is exactly, and how I want to fix it:
I'm a happy owner of an HTC desire with froyo on it, which works like a charm.
There's one small problem though, my car stereo seems to be a bit picky when connecting.
My bluetooth is on, I start the car, and the phone tells me it has connected to a headset, the stereo tells me nothing is connected.
Same happens with the A2DP function, phone says it is connected, stereo doesn't detect it.
After a bit of messing around with it, I found a way to work around this, after connecting, disable and enable the bluetooth profiles (called media and handsfree in android) once, and they both work like a charm.
----
What I want to do, is make an app which checks if the device is connected to the stereo (which shouldn't be much of a problem), and then switch both of the audio profiles off for a moment (one at a time) and then back on.
Problem is, how do I switch them from my app? I've been looking at the documentation for hours, but I can't seem to find out.
The bluetoothchat sample is a great start to build a BT program I think, but I'm pretty much stuck here.
Is there someone who can point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance
Nobody? I succeeded with making an app that displays the paired devices (after a bit of borowing from the BTchat sample), so that pointed me in the right direction.
Still, I'm stuck with the problem of switching the profiles/services on and off, and I'm sure one of you can help me
Thanks
Hey I'm no expert but you may want to check out the app called tasker in the market, you could look into the app's codes cause from what I experienced, I see a state there that says 'if bluetooth connected...' Then you can add an event to trigger after that.it's an awesome automater app. Base the codes from there.

Great thanks for the idea, will try that right away.
Will let you know how it turned out.
-edit-
DARN can't find options to enable/disable a2dp and handsfree in tasker, maybe I'm missing it, but so far I don't think it is there.
Thanks for the suggestion though
Help?! Can't believe noone knows how to do this?
Heeeeeeelp! Still stuck with it
I have an android tablet installed in my car running Torque, and it's worked well for the months I've had it in my car.
Now though, I want to utilize my phone wifi tether to allow the tablet to pretty seamlessly do navigation as well since I don't have the 3g version of the n7.
I already have a tasker profile set up to kill Torque and launch maps when I am connected to my phones hotspot. Problem 1 solved. The things I need now is a way to activate google voice search remotely. The way the tablet is installed it sits flat on the upper dash when not in use and pops up when in use, which puts it just outside of comfortable arm reach when in use to activate voice search.
Now, I could set up a tasker profile to launch voice search when it connects to the correct wifi, however the timing is never consistant as to how long it takes from hotspot activation to voice search, and as well it only activates once when it connects to wifi. If I miss the window to speak or need to get it search again I have to either poke at the screen or turn off the hotspot and turn it back on. Less than ideal.
Any ideas are welcome. Bluetooth remote control isn't my first option since Torque uses my bluetooth connection to connect to the OBD sensor. Ideally it would by a one button widget from my hotspot phone I could hit once the tablet is connected to push a command to activate voice search to the tablet.

You could try set up a nfc tag or something similar so that when you move it near the tab it activates the voice search. But I don't know how practical it would be for your install...

I've been using the Belkin Bluetooth Car Hands-Free Kit for the last year with my Nexus 4.
http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Bluetooth-Hands-Free-BlackBerry-Smartphones/dp/B004CLYJ2I
For the most part it has worked great. However, my new Note 3 will not connect automatically to the device, I always have to turn the screen on and select the bluetooth device to connect to it. My Nexus 4 would simply connect to it automatically if the bluetooth was switched on.
Any ideas?

I had similar issues with my bluetooth headset. When I would press the connect button on my bluetooth it wouldn't automatically connect, and the only solution I found was re-arranging my quick toggles in the notification bar so when I pull it down I can quickly access bluetooth settings and devices.
Yep am having problems with note 3 bluetooth. For a top of range phone, this bluetooth is crap. 2 headsets works when it wants and 6 works wagons only works in some! Am surprised no one else as commented on the bluetooth

I had the same issue that my N3 didn't connect automatically to my BT-devices. I stumbled over a thread where I found some one else having the same issue who recommended the app "Bluetooth auto connect". I downloaded the app and now it just works. If you have the BT-scan dialog enabled, you see how it switches between the different paired devices in the list until it locks on to the one that's in range.
If you don't like that dialog, you can disable it using wanam (I think). Hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll give it a try. Does this app have any affect on your battery life?

Not for me. But I may not be the average user. I'm getting 3 days of battery life out of my N3. I only turn wireless (3g / wifi) on when I need it and do the same with BT. But I found it really inconvenient to have to select my connected BT device. For switching BT on and off, I use tasker. I have a setting that checks for the music app of my choice, and when I start it and have no headphones connected, tasker turns on BT.
Iv done some reading and am still a little confused as to if I can use something like Trigger or something like Trigger to turn off toggles etc. when my phone is removed from a NFC Tag. Currently I use Trigger to turn on BT and Turn off Wifi etc.. when I place my phone on a NFC tag when I get into my car and that works great. But when I get out of my car and remove my phone from said NFC Tag I would like to turn off BT etc.. Can this be done?
I have a Verizon Galaxy S5 running NE9.
Thanks,
~SomeGuy2008
It can be done but you'll have to set up another trigger to disable them. So one trigger is turning on BT/ off Wifi when you touch it the first time. The second trigger would be the opposite BT off/ wifi on but you can't just remove it from the NFC tag, you have to tap it again
Thanks for the idea. I found that I was over engineering the whole idea between Tasker and Trigger. After reading your reply I figured I would only use Trigger. I had to create 2 Tasks in Trigger. When I get into my car I put my phone into the phones car dock (which has a NFC Tag on it) . 1 triggers via NFC which turns on BT and connects to my Cars BT,disables wifi, enables Mobile Data and opens Waze or whatever navigation app I want. The other Task does the reverse when disconnecting from my Cars BT (aka getting out of my car and taking my phone with me). After various tests its about 99.99999% accurate. And I works with only 1 initial NFC tap.
Thanks again for the idea.

I have the GS5 Dev and when a call comes in or I place a voice call through my 2012 Jeep (Uconnect) it disconnects the bluetooth but the call is still connected. Can switch to handset and call is fine but cannot use bluetooth in car for any call. I've read on other forums about this is an issue with bluetooth in the car sending a "connection status acknowledgement" but the GS5 doesn't respond so the car disconnects. Has anyone worked out a fix for this? I've read this is an issue with Android 4.x but can't confirm that. I have multiple headsets and they all work and connect but most people tell me it's over modulated. Seems bluetooth has many issues. Just looking for answers, I know I'm not the only one with these issues.

try to go to settings / applications and clear data cache for bluetooth test bluetooth share and uninstall Uconnect® Access app
if you dont have Uconnect® Access app try grabbing that from google play and see if that helps
u may try some enabler disabler apps like Bluetooth Service
teja.mobi - October 7, 2013 appstore app
i wouldnt know without trying and retrying multiple apps to see if anything works

My Uconnect is the first version which the app won't work with. It works fine with my other phones that are 4.3 and before. I've tried a few bluetooth apps with no luck. I'm thinking this might have to become an Xposed module.
