I just had a really crazy idea... no doubt I'm not the first but I havnt ready about this anywhere.
Before I go on I am NOT a programmer at all. I know nothing about that sort of thing but I was researching PCs thinking about buying a new computer and came across the HP TouchSmart PC. Basically you get a PC with a large touchscreen monitor and a full suite of aps modded to make it work well with touching the screen instead of using a mouse. Much like what we do with out phones.
Now, would it not be possible AND cool to just have a simple HTC Cube like program running on a standard PC. It would be really handy if you had a touch PC for sure but playing around on here and just using a mouse that in itself would be handy too. Being able to hold down say, the right finger mouse button and drag your mouse up quickly would bring up a cube like shortcut seen on the HTC Touch phones. Customizable of course so that it has shortcuts to whatever we would want. I can't imagine that this would be hard to do. Probably alot easier then it was to make Cube aps for other touchscreen phones. Swipping the mouse across the screen left or right could get you to other cube sides. Again, like on our phones.
This may seem completly assinine and useless but I just think it would be a cool little feature to have on a PC. I'm sure if someone who has knowledge of programming could make something like that. I dont know how difficult it would be but. Hey thats just my two cents.
I do realize that this thread isnt really about phones so it may be out of place, but the idea has come from our phones so I thought I would put it out and see what sort of responce I could get. See if anyone would be in fact interested in making something like this!
Aaron
Nice idea but i guess you're wrong here with the topic. You should ask in a PC Forum wether it's possible to do that
I understood it was the wrong forum. But seeing as pretty much anyone reading this thread would understand what the HTC Cube is, thought Id test the waters. I'm not a member or any PC Forums really either. Like I said I dont really know a thing about programming but I can assume that it's sort of like riding a bike. Whether that be a basic one speed bike compared to a 12 speed. As long as you understand the main principles (ie balance) you should be able to ride most anything. So from an ignorant understanding of programming.... well programming a application for a Windows based phone or Windows based PC would sort of be like.. comparing apples with apples no? Again.. please dont flame me here for my thoughts.. Like I said.. Ignorant understanding of the computer programming world!

Something like this?
Sorry: new software is this.
probably not helping when saying this, but the newer Ubuntu Linux distros come preinstalled with a program called Compiz-Fusion, which gives linux its cube effects. I dont know if XP or Vista has any programs out there. They probably do if you google it.
good luck to you!

Linux is the closest you will get. The XP software doesn't run nearly as well as linux because XP never really figured in workspaces where as it's completely integrated with managers like Gnome for linux. So the compiz fusion is the closest to a true cube you will get. Also, ubuntu is not the only linux distro with compiz. Any distro that can run gnome or KDE can run compiz; it's just a matter of with how much work.
To me the closest thing to a cube on the XDA phones is the cube animation in ultimate launch. But then again I love that program so I am biased
I did see that Linux based cube before but what that does is rotate to different desktops. I was thinking of a cube that is basically the same thing the HTC cube is... shortcuts. So pretty much similar to the start menu except it would be way more snazy looking and have 9 or however many shortcuts you wanted in it. 3 on each side.. you get the idea.

im thinking about switcing back to ubuntu as well, now that i know how to cook roms on it. ive also been looking at mandriva 2008.1 as well, and its easy support for wm6. ive also heard that it has the most stable compizfusion ever, which is a plus because compiz always crashes on my comp after a few days of usage.
anyway, i do believe that linuxis your best bet, althoug compiz-fusion is not very stable yet, so if you do make the switch to ubuntu, i would just make sure that you use the pre-installed effects to satisfy your needs, and not download a package caled compizconfig-settings or something like that.
as far as a shortct menu goes, im not aware of any, but i agree that it would be very convenient/cool for laptops with touchscreens...
Thanks...I'm fairly new to Linux so I'm sure there will be a slight learning curve.
u can use uBuntu (Linux)...I think it's the way, if u want to have the cube for ur dekstop...Or u can search only the transformations pack xp to ubuntu or vista to ubuntu...U can search by google...
The idea was to have a shortcut cube.... like the HTC Cube.... not a cube that rotates between different "desktops" like the linux one everyone here is discussing

I'll admit Ubuntu Linux took me a while to grasp. and with an older computer, I had to do a lot of research to get my wifi working, and the cube working as well. But now i use it almost all the time, only going back to XP on my dual-boot laptop to flash a new ROM or backup my contacts.
I've been wondering if i should check out Mandriva 2008 also. The downside of linux is that Windows Mobile is not heavily supported.

Hi guys..
I'm looking for a videolan-remote.. or a remote application which makes it possible to control videolan..
i did search this forum (videolan and vlc) but didn't find anything.. and i googled, found a java-application.. but it doesn't seem to work for me.
anyone got some software for that?
thanks in advance
martin
You can check out "Salling Clicker". A software that let you connect your computer via bluetooth or WLAN. You can then add plugins like remote winamp remote, vlc remote, powerpoint etc!
heyhey
thanks for your reply and sorry for my late answer..
that looks good, will try it.. but there's nothing like that as freeware, or is there?
Try this : http://www.1800pocketpc.com/2009/03...ntrol-vlc-player-via-your-windows-mobile.html
hi how does this work?
ip?
port?
I know its not the same as the program specific stuff listed above, but if you want the swiss army knife of pc control....
check out some of the many remote desktop solutions. I like Remote Touch most, has tons of advantages over VNC protocol. If you want to use a standard vnc setup i recommend mocha vnc. Remote touch is an easy setup, and runs a lot faster. It was developed here on XDA...

REQUEST "Language button"
Hi there,
I love this app, no more 20 remote controls in the bed! If somebody already digged in or knows how to do a language button with the xml file?
I tried around with the vlc HTTP orders, but it seems the languge function has to be programmed to use it in the gui later?
How much donation is expected for the language function to be programmed?
Thanx!
Hi,
does anyone know if there are any active development done on the VLC Remote software?
I was thinking of taking the existing code and make some changes but I need to get in touch with the creator to make sure it is ok...
Two main things I was planning to do is:
* Change the browse screen to use Sense UI. I have to look into if you can get the mp3 tags needed to display Artists via VLC http interface.
* Add ability to have multiple VLCs defined, so that you can control different zones in your house.
Next step I would like is to make it possible to link different zones together so that one VLC is master and one or more VLC players just plays what the master streams... a little bit like Sonos system....
Anyone interested in any of these additions?
Cheers
Jonas
Yeah, sure i'd be interested, this proggie could use some UI treatment Making another buttons pix wont be so hard, but some additional features would be interesting.

Dont know if anybody is familiar with XMBC but what iam looking for, well found but for iphone is a remote control app. There are some out there but i really like the look of http://remote.collect3.com.au/ . Its the GUi i like. Any body know of something similar for WM
Cheers
Take look here. This is working on MY tp2.
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?t=68330
And here are the latest SVN's for the old XBOX.
http://t3ch.yi.se/
@purple8:
There's quite a few out there; also one called XMOTE. Pinged the dev and he informs me that he's working on a update which will also support the Apple iPad - suggest dropping him a note indicating your interest ... might motivate him further.
@mike2nl:
Have you tested this on a Gen1 XBOX with XBMC (ex: XBMC-SVN_2010-08-31_rev30587-T3CH) with a large audio library?
Keep us posted on the developments of this ... awesome find!
Been looking for an XBMC Remote for quite some time which would allow full control of XBMC without having to be in front of a screen. The Web GUI is fine but lacks much functionality - primarily because no one has really put time into improving it.
Cheers,

I think GRemote Pro has XBMC support. The free version might have it too, not sure. It also works with VLC, WMP, WinAmp, Boxee, and more. The GUI has options for gyroscopic mouse control, trackpad control, keyboard control, number-pad control, media remote control, joypad control etc. The Pro version isn't freeware, and the GUI is different, but it's a sweet app. Connects over WiFi or BlueTooth. There's a client that goes on your WM or Android phone, and a server that gets run on your home computer. Hope the info helps.
Hi, I just installed my netbook without realising it cant run metro apps. As per title, does anyone know a way that i could make them work on the native 1024*600 resolution..
I know theres a resolution hack workaround.. but my netbook runs on amd c-50 processor hd6250 gpu.. the reso hack does not work with mine..
Anyone knows any alternative methods?

Which netbook do you have? Are you running 32-bit or 64-bit Windows? Aside from an external monitor, the answer is dependent on the hardware & driver combination, from what I understand. Have you used AMD's Mobility Radeon Driver Verification Tool to see what latest driver it recommends or tried installing the latest Catalyst (12.10) which just came out recently? How about the latest beta (12.11 Beta)?
By hack your referencing regedit value change right? If so, then the driver is probably your best hope.

Thanks for the reply.. by hack i mean registry change yea..
I installed the latest catalyst driver, but havent tried the beta version though.. might give it a try but dont think it would work either, did lots of googling and most of them relates to registry hack

I cannot be held responsible if this melts your netbook, but you could try the Custom Resolution Utility. I'm sure there are plenty of other Windows 8 netbook users, who cannot get the "typical" registry hack found scattered around the internet to work, who would love to know if this worked for you.

Hi, i tried the program, I was able to set the resolution to 1024×768, but after the computer is unusable, the bottom of the screen is not visible ... Too bad
I'm curious about what happens when you can't run "metro apps" on a low-res screen. What doesn't work? Can you not launch anything besides Desktop and desktop apps on the start screen? Do you get a start screen at all or just desktop?

Everything works, except the apps meters that if you start a message appears informing you that the resolution is too low
I mostly use my Nexus 7 at work to VNC into the Cinema Projectors to do all my film programming and scheduling....
It's a damn sight easier than using a clunky old computer as it means I can actually be down on in the foyer of the Cinema working rather than hidden up in the Projection room.
It's been all well and good until we had a new piece of kit installed called RosettaBridge Theatre Management System (or TMS for short).
With the new system, in order to work remotely, I need to able to use Java which I do know that Android doesn't play nicely with.
Now, for me, this leaves only one option... I have installed the Multiboot from the Original Development forum, and am dualbooting between Paranoid Android 2.99 Beta 3 and Ubuntu 12.10. Ubuntu can play nicely with Java, however has anyone actually attempted to install Java onto Ubuntu on the Nexus? Or am I just barking up the wrong tree.....?
