AT&T's inability to send me the desktop dock on time has me with --- just a phone. That being said there are a few things like and dislike.
***Like
- Call quality has been crystal clear for me. Everything is loud enough etc.
- The screen while not very vivid, is very accurate for me. Flesh tones look great.
- Flash finally plays flawlessly
- Added security of a finger print scan has been pretty good
***Cons
- Camera is flat out horrible. No excuse for this. Compared to the iPhone, its a webcam... Compared to the captivate its also a piece of junk.
- The power button is NOT very convenient for waking the phone up. They need to give the ability to use the volume rocker to wake it from sleep. There is an app on the store that does this, but you have to pay for it and its pretty quirky with the finger scanner.
- The UI animations are flat out brutal. You cant run any 3D animation dock without severe slowdown. You also cant run live wallpaper without a huge fps hit which on a dual core phone is unacceptable.
- Battery life calculated by 10% so you can never really gauge your battery life on the fly. This was probably to cover their tracks because the phone is a battery hog.
- added hacker security means no custom kernels. Which is a shame because XDA makes far better kernels than any company out there. The phone could be so much, but Moto decided to make it so little.
---------
Summary - the phone is great at porn and phone calls... Pretty much sucks at everything else. Contemplating returning it depending how much I like the dock.
I've owned the Note for about one and a half day now, and thought I'd share my opinions which can be useful for those looking to get this phone. Feel free to ask me any questions, and if you want me to try some game(paid or free) I'll give it a shot as long as the game is worth it. I love buying games, bought like 5 new ones today .
I gotta say, I knew this was gonna be big but it turned out to be bigger than I ever imagined. It really cannot be used with a single hand without the risk of dropping it, but it feels great using it with two hands. I love it's big screen and it has a good amount of real estate for all kinds of app needs. It definitely fits comfortably in my pocket. The screen quality is great, the pixel density is enough for me to not notice any pixels and the color reproduction is great.
I was kind of disappointing with the build quality of Galaxy S, but this feels quite better. The metal casing on the edges and the rubbery back case feels really good and solid in hands, the weight is about right as well.
The S-Pen is a nice addition and it's quite accurate. Even the handwriting recognition is actually useful, it's able to recognize my handwriting fairly accurately with enough speed to be a suitable alternative for typing in. The quick memo and gestures make for a nice addition, I suck at drawing but my sister could draw a decent scenery out of it. So it's a fun addition. Other S Choice apps use the pen quite nicely and the ability to draw on screenshots and pictures is a very fun and useful addition.
I gotta say, it's not all lagless. But the lag isn't that annoying, most of the time it's during transitions. Browser is smooth on most of the websites but does redraw quite frequently on big websites, although it redraws quick. I feel that this is due to not taking advantage of the hardware properly and mostly due to software, the case which is with most Samsung's phones until they release fixes for it so I'm not too worried about that.
The hardware is amazing, it sports one of the(if not the) fastest SoC in Android world and it shows when gaming. Not only did any game I threw at it ran fine, even Tegra HD games running through Chainfire 3D looked and ran buttery smooth. Games like Shadowgun, Dungeon Defenders, Galaxy On Fire 2 THD, Samurai 2 THD had no problems.
The camera seems quite great, it is more or less like the SGS2, the video recording is quite good as well. For anyone who's curious, 1080p at superfine records at 18mbps. GPS seems good as well although I haven't tried it while driving, it did fix awfully fast(I had a fix before Maps completed the transition and was opened).
I'll keep updating this thread with new findings/experiences. I still have to try GPS properly, office use, continuous high end gaming, observe battery life, and other stuff I'm missing.
UPDATE :
Game's MSAA with Chainfire 3D comparison
Okay, you can find pictures of Shadowgun and Samurai II : Vengeance(Both THD) in my flickr set here. As the filename suggests, auto is set to automatic MSAA, 4x is 4xMSAA and 16x is 16xMSAA. I can't really see noticible improvement in both the games as the PPI is quite a lot, but I guess on tablets it can make a good difference. While 4xMSAA was not being taxing, 16xMSAA made Shadowgun and Samurai II lag quite a lot. Let me know if you guys want any more game's comparisons.
My take on Note's Audio
I tested audio with 320kbps MP3s and a pair of decent ~80$ earbuds, I'm no audiophile but I love an occasional song or so. I'd say that Note can be a decent daily MP3 player, but it's nothing out of the ordinary, the Galaxy S sounds a bit better in my opinion with same MP3 and earbuds but it's nothing earth shattering. All in all, it's a fairly nice package and unless you're very serious about top notch audio it shouldn't cause any problems.
Some S-Note demos
Thought these can be beneficial for those who are looking to buy Note for it's notemaking capabilities. Sorry for my absolutely crappy handwriting, plus I'm not very used to writing on the note.
You can view it here
I'm big on games to, how does the extra resolution look compared to the older galaxy?
Quite great, it feels much better. Plus Note is able to handle some very high end games that don't work properly on Galaxy S. Presuming the games scale well, I had some that didn't and that kinda sucked.
Could you download Zynga Poker from the market & trill me off all buttons look normal....screen scaling. I used to own a Dell Streak & some apps didn't work will with the big screen.
I'm quite interested in this device, however there are 2 major points for me, which will make me pass on this one.
1. How is that useful as a real note taking. I know I can draw stuff with it but let's say I've got to copy a half of A4 page containing text and some schematics.
Now I know it would be impossible to fit it on one s-memo page, so is there anything to create additional page and link/organize it? I don't want to look for the necessary contents longer than necessary.
2. Is it enough to serve as a MP3 player despite having infamous Yamaha DAC? I'm not audiophile and I don't want to be one, however I like to listen to music from time to time.

1. It takes some getting used to, there is a bit of delay when the software actually recognizes your stroke which can be a bit annoying plus it takes a bit of practice to avoid hitting the back button. But it's accurate enough to serve as a real notepad. You can create additional pages from within the memo and it groups them together as a pile. Although they are not organizable from what I could tell. Evernote comes free with this(I think) and it may have more advanced note making capabilities.
2. From what I could tell, it's sound quality is good enough even in the loudspeaker. I'm no audiophile and I can't be one but it sounded decent enough for everyday usage.
The sound quality with the earbuds, how do you think is it?there is a thread here on this forum which doesnt seem to like it.Thats the only thing which is stoping me from getting it.
I should mention that my Galaxy tab 10.1 has a great sound quality so I dont know why shouldnt this as well.

Are you rooted? does 4xMSAA or 16xMSAA work on Chainfire 3d?
Yes I'm rooted and it seems to work.
Would u be so kind to post screenshots of gaming with normal, 4xMSAA, and 16xMSAA.. Like so http://www.jayceooi.com/tag/opengl/
Okay, I'll try to do that tomorrow.
I would like to ask u few questions if u dont mind : p and im sorry if some of them been asked before but im just a skeptic guy haha
1// Hows the Sound of the phone? is it Loud? Clear? Crispy/No Noise? and how bout using the headphones? u could say im an audiophile and music is a big part of my life so it matters alot to me
2// Hows The Camera? is it Better than S2 ? or at least like S2? hows the video too? The Voice Recorder? and does that lag happen alot? did it bother u for any moment? Oh and Hows the Wifi signal/ Workin on it?
Thanks!
and what about battery life?, is it true what engadget writes of 9 hours playing video??????? (http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/28/samsung-galaxy-note-review/)

You have to root your phone first, then install chainfire 3d on your phone. If you need more information look it up on google.
Disclaimer! Rooting your phone will void your warranty.
Note got the same sound hardware like a SGSII.
So the sound is perfect....but all Samsungs got bad headphones! !!!! U need to change it for sure...
I got senheiser cx55 and it gives me perfect sound.
Best regards.
Sold my N5 (too big for me + build quality issues). Got a 16GB Moto G instead. Used it for 24 hours. Some quick findings so far:
- Screen: size is excellent for me. Just a bit smaller than my old GNEX. Screen is sharp and reasonably bright.
- Performance: of course it's not as fast as my N5 was, but I have to say it's impressive for this price. Multitasking with social apps, browser, Gmail, etc is no problem at all. Most of the time I don't even notice I'm down to 1GB RAM again. Can't really tell for heavy gaming, since I don't do that on my phone.
- Camera: definitely the weakest part in my opinion. Pics are under-saturated and not very sharp, especially indoors. The module make a rattle sound too when you activate it, giving it an awkward and cheap feel. No shutter soft key but a tap on the screen will take a pic (weird). Flash is nice and bright on the other hand. Let's say it will suffice.
- Stock ROM: good. Clean. Fast. Close to Nexus experience. The Motorola assistant app is a nice addon which I actually use. Built in sound effects & equalizer is also a nice touch. Two gripes: 1) the Motorola employee responsible for putting the non-removable carrier name in the status bar (aligned left, taking up most of the space for notification icons) must have been on drugs while he made that decision. It offers no benefit and annoys the hell out of people. Solve by rooting the device, installing Xposed framework and getting the MoDaCo toolkit module that allows you to get rid of it. 2) the stock AOSP keyboard won't let you download additional languages for text correction/prediction. Minor issue, solve by downloading the Google Keyboard from the Play Store.
- Battery: only one run so far, but I've been using Ti backup for restoring apps and have been configuring/playing with it for most of my 4 hour commute today plus normal usage (Whatsapp, social, news, etc). Still one third left in the tank.
- Speaker: no complaints here, but I have to admit I don't really care much for 'beats audio' and such on a phone speaker. It has to ring, and it has to ring loud enough. It does.
- Audio playback via headphones (tested with Sennheiser HD515): not bad at all. Playing with the sound effect settings pays off. No problems here unless you're an audiophile.
Overall: like most reviews out there state this phone offers very good value for money. I have to agree, €200 for this phone is a bargain. Would have gladly paid 50 or so more for a better camera though.

It would be good to collect initial impressions of the tablet from the early adopters. Please let us know your thoughts.

Fast. Light. Slim. Fantastic screen and stereo speakers.
I thought the original tablet couldn't get much better, but it did!
Just waiting for my noise cancelling headset to arrive this morning so I can test it at work today!

There's an issue with the Xperia Live Wallpaper. With it active, the homescreen micro lags, but then again, it also happens on my Z Ultra so evidently a wallpaper issue.
With a static wallpaper there is a noticeable difference in the operation of the device. Pinch to zoom in Chrome is perfect, I experience micro lags with animations on the Z which aren't apparent on the Z2.
Early indications on the battery life are positive and GTA SA plays flawlessly on full settings with the Z2, but it stutters immensely on the Z.
The design feels even more premium in the hand. Sony has rounded off the edges slightly and given it's weight and thickness, is alot more comfortable to hold for long durations.
Software feels well rounded. There are a few tweaks such as the separate notification tray and quick settings that make it feel more like a tablet (rather than the ugly tray on the Z from 4.2.2+), you can now "Cose All" from the recent apps tray, with multiple small apps open there is an additional option called "Grid" which positions them randomly on the screen, smart back light control and noise cancellation, plus the new lockscreen. Swipe up from the home button there is now "What New" alongside Google Now which is a well designed app which gives you top music, video, apps and games.
The additional of the vibrator for haptic feedback is also pleasing.
Huge improvement with the camera too.

Thanks a lot for your very thorough review. If you don't mind a question, how is the performance in Chrome when scrolling through a image heavy website (something like Google Image search or one of the news sites with lots of pictures)?
Thanks!

I just did a Google search for the word "Google" - the Z2 doesn't stutter, even when the images are loading or haven't fully loaded.
The Z stuttered only when the images where loading. When all images where loaded, both devices where smooth
The Z2 definably has the upper hand.
As another example of the speed. If I open the Play Store and immediately swipe right to bring out the navigation tray. The Z2 is instant and the animation is smooth. The Z lagged and instead of showing the tray, it just appeared out of thin air.
Could you do a system dump for us all? PM me if you need any tutorials and can't find one (it's pretty easy, but you might need help). Just app, priv-app and framework folders needed.

There weren't any headphones in the box. I ordered the Noise Cancelling headphones from Handtec but they didn't show today as expected so it'll be Monday.
@Felimenta97 Not at a PC currently, but I don't see why it would differ from the leaked Z2 dump.

Bah. My pre-order is delayed because I ordered the damn case with it.
Wanted it to be protected from the get-go, but it seems if I want the tablet, I could have it this week, but the whole order, with the case, means it's all on back order.
Bggrit.
Man I was all set to order this and just surfing around found a Ipad mini 2 64gb $400. Brand new full warranty no refurbished. My kids have apply stuff not me. I never even looked at Ipad. For ME this little thing has the best battery life of any Android I have ever had. The only reason I got it was I could jailbrake it. Got the 7.06 on it just before they put out 7.1. Why they dont let people just theme and ad widgets I have no clue.
I do have another android (kinda older). Its just I was looking at $499 16 vs $400 64. I can still sell this and make money. I miss the live wall paper yet I always turned it off thinking its sucking battery lol. Then I find out some of the games that had those extra effects that only Nvidia could run. The ipad mini retina has all those effects. Hmm I bet that 801 chip would have no problems running any nvidia THD game.
If the Sony was just cheaper I would have got that. Not here to sell anything. I would rather have the Sony.. just love Android. But just wanted to share....I love this site.
Just got mine.
Initial impressions:
It's so thin and light , it's almost uncanny.
Build quality is OK but the use of plastic feels a bit cheap for a device in this price range.
Way to many useless and unremovable apps for my taste (Facebook and Google+ first come to mind)
Tap does not always register. I often have to tap twice. This is a deal breaker. Does anyone experience the same thing?
The covers for the SD and USB ports look weak.
It also could have used a rotation lock switch .
This is me *****ing otherwise it looks like a great devices except for the part where touch doesn't always register (faulty unit?)
I'll make a system dump (non root) and post it in he development thread this afternoon.

The touch issues could be related to a faulty unit or maybe a not so perfect FW. If it is related to that, could be fixed. I think the first fw of the Tablet Z had the other way around: Too sensitive screen. And really, REALLY thanks about the system dump

I just got mine yesterday, and thought I had a few times with it not registering touches, but upon further testing, I think I was just missing the navigation buttons. I enabled the show touches option in the developer options and they seem to all register for me unless I'm on the very edge, overlapping the bezel. It does seem like the target areas for the navigation buttons are pretty small though and black navigation buttons blend right into the bezel. I'm confident this can all be addressed in firmware/software updates. Hopefully yours is too.
Overall I'm loving it - it's so light! The screen is a fingerprint magnet, but I can live with that since it looks great. The sound is great too - really everything I expected. I didn't order any accessories, but am now thinking the charging dock will be much more convenient than fiddling with the flaps to charge it. I am glad it is waterproof though, so I don't really have to worry about dropping it in the tub or pool.

I'm torn between the Galaxy tab pro 10.1 and the Z2
Can anyone post about their battery life? How is build quality? Any lag moving around the interface?
I agree on that screen issue. It seems like the navigation buttons only work if you completely hit them. If you miss them by a small margin they don't register. That's probably a software thing though. Apart from that.... Wow what a tablet, it's so thin and light. I really really like mine so far.

After playing a bit with it, I have the exact same impressions: the navigation buttons are easily missed. The dead zone around the bezel is too large, and for some reason I often touch a few pixels away from my target. It's definitively not hardware related. But it bugs me, if it stills bugs me a week from now it'll go straight back to Sony.
About the battery life , I charged it to full yesterday afternoon, played with it for about 4 hours in the evening, mostly web and HD vids, It got 70% battery life left. It discharged 1% overnight . Too early to tell but looking good so far.
It feels very snappy. I did have one severe slowdown (once just opening a new tab in Firefox the whole tablet froze for like 10 seconds ) , it never happened since and it running butter smooth.
It's so slim and light that it's quite hard to hold actually. I struggled a bit to find an easy was to hold it with one hand whereas my old Iconia A500 (twice as thick and almost twice as heavy) feels more natural although more straining. Even with two hands the square edges are not comfortable.
I put the Z2 in my Iconia case for the time being, it does not fit perfectly but is much easier to hold.
Aside from the unremovable apps, as always, I'm quite positively surprised with the Sony ROM, it's very pleasant to use.
Nice touches: multi color notification led, front speakers are loud and clear, IR blaster (although the app sucks)
Now all I really want is root access...
Awesome!
They should arrive in Australia next week, looks like I'll have to get one
Please keep dropping thoughts on it when you feel the need!
I'm sure the touch issue will be resolved with an update.
CM11 would be freaking amazing on this!
Review and benchmarking
A Polish site has published a review. Though I don't understand Polish the benchmarking results look very good; this tablet scores top in most, but not in the SunSpider Javascript benchmark where it is outperformed by others. Playing a HD-movie at 55% brightness gave a battery life of 12,5h. For normal usage the battery lasted about 3 days:

hello people, would like to ask if you guys recommend this phone? It seems this device has one of the best audio quality Amp and DAC, best speakers on a device until now, OLED and I'm satisfied with the performance. How's the battery, and the sound recording? Good device for a regular user? Almost no intel for this device  greets

It seems this device has one of the best audio quality Amp and DAC, best speakers on a device until now, OLED and I'm satisfied with the performance. How's the battery, and the sound recording? Good device for a regular user? Almost no intel for this device  greets

It really depends on what you are looking for.
Audio quality is outstanding. The Amp and DAC are some of the best you can get in a phone. The speakers are by far the best I ever heard in a phone.
The display is amazing as well. Great sharpness, strong colors, dark blacks, good brightness.
Performance really depends on what you do with it. For messaging, browsing reddit and similar everyday tasks it performs just fine.
If you want to play 3D games (or even very demanding 2D games) on it you won't be happy with it though.
Battery life seems about average. I usually get 2-3 days out of it, but I am not a heavy user. From all I have read people seem to rate it as 'average' in general.
It should be noted that quick charge works well, so you get short charging times.
Get this phone for:
- audio quality
- display
- metal case
- overall build quality
Do not get this phone for:
- performance
- included software (the UI that comes with it is not very good, I suggest using something like Nova or Arrow)
- camera (it's ok, but there are way better ones available)
Misc:
- no experience with update support yet. Got one update since I bought the phone. Don't know how good ZTE's long term support is
- you can pick between using dual sim or single sim + micro SD
- WLAN connectivity can be a bit weak, LTE is very strong though
- hardware buttons for volume and lock have a nice clicky response
For me personally this phone is ideal. I do not care too much about performance and it gives me all the features I care for.
I bought the phone for the screen, audio, metal case and SD card support.
