I think you must be referring to this:
http://www.zifnab06.net/2010/05/possible-root-exploit/
Sounds like there is some potential there, but we will have to see if anyone can turn the overflow into something useful.
I just took that update yesterday too...lol
Problem is this news is three days old and nothing new has come of it. I'm skeptical that he ran into a roadblock.

"IF i can learn arm assembly, then this shouldn’t be too hard."
Maybe he's working on that.
Anything new is a small glimmer of hope for me...lol
If hope is what you need then you should join us in irc.

Same, not idling right now though. Break time at work.
This is my favorite thread title ever.
What update should we not go passed, I took the update for the exchange server fix, i am currently on 2.1-update1.
How do we stop taking updates? the last one went automatically for me

Not sure about this 'opportunity' but that update included a recovery update which could have patch a yet unknown/released bug.
I hate to give bad news, but I'm about 99% sure that the exploit is for the Droid Eris. He mentions leaks (there have been 3 leaks for the Eris) and this was first posted by Zifnab on the Eris forum the other day.
This MAY have provide some insight into a possible root method for the incredible, but, personally, I am not optimistic considering all of the time between releases, the newer kernel, etc.
Sorry everyone.
he does seem to be working mainly on the eris but the main reason i posted it was because he says in this thread that it should work on any HTC device that uses fastboot.
while i know squat about the area, i figured it was worth linking to.
This looks interesting and useful, even if the information is for the Eris the post says it would work on all HTC devices with fastboot.
All HTC devices come with fastboot so if this is real its most credible post to hit the forums for the incredible.
1Way
Head over to the XDA Eris section and talk to him about what he's doing.
I know this we will never have an "Official Froyo Update" but like Zen said, lets let HTC knows what we want...
So Post your Answer Here...

Yay. Thanks for the heads-up.
Just figure it'll put some at rest finally that the turbo is a legit device and that lollipop is coming

i just signed up today after having realized this soak test was commencing
Are you serious about this post? I have done soak test in the past and if you read the very not so small fine print it says DONT MENTION ANYTHING ABOUT SOAK TEST IN PUBLIC FORUMS. I won't be surprised this test gets canceled for post like this.
If it gets canceled we know who to blame
Lol I removed the info relax. I forgot Motorola gets so upset over things.
It wasn't direct toward you. Some people don't realize Motorola takes this seriously. I see noobs laughing about my comments. I seen soak test canceled because of post bringing up about soak test.
hahaha funny how fast this thread got deleted for everyone being scared of getting the soak test revoked. who cared we in the long run will get the big update. i got all the patience in the world. and i am no noob whatsoever. let motorola be themselves.
The news is already out on places like Droid-Life. Motorola isn't going to cancel the soak test. Info of every soak test in the past has been leaked and those haven't been canceled

Any Moto Maxx users get the SOAK invite as well?

When have you seen a soak test canceled because of that? Everytime Motorola releases a soak test, it gets shared on multiple forums and posted on like 10 different websites. I've never seen them cancel anything because someone posted about a soak test.

I subscribed to MFN the week I got moto maxx but no invite yet
So through an internet friend, I've come across a file for the soak test for the US Moto X, XT1053 (Tmobile/unlocked). I have no way of verifying if its legit. I don't want to test it because I don't want unofficial software on my phone, I prefer stability. However, should I post it for those of you adventurers out there? Is that allowed here?
Again, I have no way of verifying its validity. I won't release my source either.

Since the Brazilian version is being passed along on XDA, I don't see why you shouldn't share the xt1053 version. It's not you who signed the nondisclosure agreement any way.
Just my interpretation.
If you were invited to the Test (soak, beta, or whatever Moto wants to call it) via the Moto Feedback Network, then I would not post it. When one agreed to the invite, they agreed to what amounts to an Non-Disclosure Agreement. Posting the file would violate that.

I never signed an NDA though. My friend gave it to me, and said I could post it if I wanted to. I might.

Ok, well "your friend" did. so.. either way... someone did.
Why ask if you are going to do it anyway?

I wasn't sure if I should or not. I guess since other ROMs are being leaked, there's really no harm in leaking this one.

It's guys like your friend that put the soak test program in jeopardy and it could end for good.
You should not post it. Users who are not enrolled in the test program will get stuck in a broken state as other upgrades are released within MFN.
Hey everyone i heard that today Motorola released oero update for all devices ??

I don't wanna be the skeptic one, but it seems more of the same
That website uses as a source the same australian website that gave that news yesterday
On lenovo's forum the thread about this was closed, claimed by one of moto's moderator to be a fake
On reddit the same, thousands of users claiming to be a fake
Seriously, lets move on guys.
If at last all this news is fake then why all different site spreading this fake news
Hello everyone this the last time I'm writing on this topic
Techdroider just mention this on there blog
Yesterday, we saw many websites reporting the news that Motorola is rolling out Oreo to a large number of devices including the Moto X4, Moto Z and Z2 Series, Moto G5, Moto G5s Plus, and Moto G4 Plus. Well, the news is quite misleading as the Official Press Release from Motorola only says that the Moto X4 is getting the Oreo update in Australia starting today and the eligible devices for Oreo includes Moto Z and Z2 Series, Moto G5, Moto G5s Plus, and Moto G4 Plus. That said, Don't get spun by Internet rumors.
Complete details click here :-https://www.techdroider.com/2018/02/motorola-posts-february-2018-release-notes-moto-z-z2-play-force.html?m=1
Yeah, it is weird that an almost unknown forum hot the press information, while the rest of the important sites didn't get any information..
It's legit

Hi, editor for Ausdroid here. The information pertaining to the launch of Oreo for this list of phones came from the PR company representing Motorola in Australia. We have double checked with them and they confirmed that Oreo is indeed coming to these devices. The initial launch is in Australia and New Zealand. The rest of the world will follow.
