After screen replacement gps had stopped working.
First I thought it's a software issue so I flashed stock firmware, and still nothing.
I would like to know where the gps chip is located, and how can I fix it...
TIA
help plz?

Did you find more information about the GPS?
maybe you should check GPS antenna contaco on the top left corner (viewing the phone with screen down) put it off the back cover and see if the pins are making contact with the antenna on the back cover or not

Yep..
After the screen replacement somehow the anthena of the GPS , wasn't fully connected to the motherboard, so I had to make soldering between them.
That's all.

as you konw, S200 GPS is not easy to fix, let me tell you a simple method to fix this problem.
1. Turn off your S200, open rear cover, remove the battery, locate the gps antenna position.
refer to f1.jpg
2. Peel the black gps antenna carefully and turn over from left to right. use the multimeter to measure resistance between two electrodes and you'll find it's short-circuit status (~0 Ohms).
Look carefully at the root location of the antenna, there is a black transparent line, at the end of this line, you can find the short-circuit point, cut off this copper chips until the short-circuit point completely disconnected, then measure resistance between two electrodes to determine it is no longer short-circuit (Infinity ∞ Ohms).
refer to f2.jpg d1.jpg and modification diagram.jpg or this (surcart's pic).
recovery the antenna, turn on your S200 and test gps. Enjoy it !
refer to c1 and c2 pics (compare with HTC P3600, left is P3600, right is S200)
c1.jpg is before modify, c2.jpg is after .
btw, tracking speed is faster than before.
d1.jpg is a large pic
d2.jpg is the details after modified
maybe you can do it without peeling antenna off, try to cut the short-circuit position directly if you are not sure you can completely peel off. refer to d2.jpg or s200_p1.jpg(provided by wysxs, thx) or Victor79's pic .
Has someone tried it already?
of course, i‘ve finished this modification and tested, gps now is very fast to track
what do you mean with "confirm it's short-circuit status"?
but if this methode works, this would be great
Well, this would be excellent if it works as gps signal can be a pain in the ass to get on this phone. Can you explain in more detail and maybe a before and after-picture comparison on the removed "copper chips"? One that is more of a close up than the 2nd picture in your guide.
I'd like to know exactly what I'm doing before trying this out.
Thnx.
So can you make a video of this?
Yes a video would be fantastic
sorry for my english,
pls see these two pics (compare with HTC P3600, left is P3600, right is S200)

That's great but can you open your modified s200 and take a picture like the f2.jpg that shows how it should look after you have removed the copper chips ?
We would like a more detailed guide of how to do this.

Good for you. I just lift up the tape a bit in one edge and realized that the tape is actually the antenna. Haven't done the mod yet. I expected a chip beneath the tape. How bad was your reception before the mod? Could you get a signal at all or nothing?
This thing might need a little more research. I was about to try this mod and started to peel the antenna off. I started at the top and the antenna accidentally tore a bit as you can see in the picture. Above and a little to the right of the white spot in the picture you can see the torn part. It's not torn all the way across but it's there. Anyway. I got a bit freaked out thinking I had ****ed the antenna up beyond rescue so I put the battery back in and started the gps viewer. Lo and behold I now have a stronger gps signal than before. Putting my phone in the same spot as before the tare i now have 5-8 satellites instead of the 2-3 I had before.
pls see modification diagram.jpg in first post, understand how to.
Why you guys don't use some tape to seal this? I don't think Acer put it there with no use. Did you check radio reception? Maybe that's the reason being there.

what do you mean "radio reception" ? GPS radio reception or GSM radio reception? If it's GPS, pls see c1.jpg and c2.jpg in above to compare signal strength. if GSM, pls see GSM.jpg to find where is GSM antenna location. i just modify GPS antenna. i don't think the reason that Acer put it there is just to “reduce” the signal strength.
do you think S200 GPS signal strength and tracking speed are too bad? compare with my HTC P3600, i think yes, but after modified, i think no.
I meant FM radio reception. Does ti still work fine with no hands free?

FM works fine, listening now, no hands free.
Hi!
Isn't any other way to solve this problem of short-circuit without cutting things inside phone?
Something to isolate it, as freco said?
I wanted it to be reversable, you know, there must be a reason to acer build it that way, they aren't a bunch of incompetent that could not see this short...
PS: What tools did you use to cut it? Just a little stiletto would do it?

Thanks. Maybe I 'll give it a try on weekend.
Hello,
After a crash screen accident, I gave the broken phone to a repair shop to replace the screen and gave them my black housing in order to replace the white one.
They gave me back the phone. everything works, except gps: no detection. The shop told me it was due to my 'fake' housing but I suspect an antenna problem? how can I test that? someone could tell me where is that antenna?
another symptom: if in put the gps on, and try 'gps test', the gps icon appears and flashing (suggesting that gps is working), but no detection. The device becomes hot quickly and battery empties out quickly too....
thanks for your help
GPS antenna may be made out of ceramic, so depending on how bad your accident was it could be broken. My phone was run over, and even though I replaced the screen and digitizer myself the GPS is weak and the accelerometer is dead.
it's exactely what has happened to me.
there's another similar discussion on thread n. 6178625 (can't post link as a noob member)
and here's what I wrote:
after I replaced the housing, the gps died.
no way to fix the signal: the gps is on but it dosen't find any sat.
this is the service manual:
I was wondering: where the gps antenna is located? is it the same for the gsm/umts one (i.e. the plastic part in the bottom of the back)?
please keep this up, we must find a solution

Hi there
When opening the GPS viewer, status is "Searching com0", it can goes for ever. seems like GPS could not be detected ?
Any Ideas ?
Thanks,
Ran
Search in the forum, you will find amazing stuff ,like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=651886
...and even if the antenna's fix is done, GPS still may have not work properly if weather is worst (ionosphere causes this).
I've seen this post
But It seems that I do not advance to "acquiring..." stage.., seems like i can't even open the driver...i'll try to apply anyway..thanks...
I have same problem as rwainste. But I haven't this problem before than in the service changed display and vibration motor.
rwainste: Did you help apply antenna's fix?
just do it

Are you sure? Before I sent my acer to service to replace display, GPS fixed after 2-3 minute and worked good. But now after in service replace display, GPS doesn't work.
Apply antenna's fix = lose warranty or no?

If GPS dont work its better to speak with Acer, but if work and just take more time to fix its good idea to make the cut and after that you will lose the warranty
my acer neotouch s200's gps has been malfunctioning recently..
i dropped it once and i think it broke the gps attena... any ideas to fix it or check if its broken?
Read the same antenna modification thread to determine if the antenna is broken.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=651886
I don't think dropping will break the antenna, it sticks to the body quite well.
Hello, when I play landscape games (eg. class of clans) and cover the top of the phone WiFi disconnect immediately and Sim 1,2 received signal got weaker even if I am 30 cm from the router, is it a problem with only my phone, or all other Zuk phones have this death grab
Sent from my Z1 using XDA Free mobile app
General hardware issue (on all Z1), sorry but there's nothing to do about it :/
For me it's a drop yes but no disconnect!
At the top of the device the 2 black lines is the wifi antenna and at the bottom the other 2 black lines is for gsm singal/3g/4g internet. If i turn the phone upside down and rotate the screen 180 i have better 3g/4g signal for web broswing.
Is there any way to solve this issue? Like do something with the internals (reposition something?). Or is the only way of fixing this replacing the hardware?

Do you happen to know what's the issue? Is it the wifi antenna? (Which is the metal frame?)

Why you ask me instead of reading the whole thread. It's already been answered and, as I already mentioned, the same problem as "antenna gate". It's a design problem.
Hi Folks
I am having severe GPS issues with my S7 edge. It just takes a lot of time to see the satellites and use them for getting a fix. Could any of the following be the reason for this
1. Phone has moved from USA to India
2. Firmware of phone has change from 935V to 935U
3. Display/LCD of phone has been changed as the earlier one was cracked.
Could any of this have caused an issue ?
Folks any ideas, i am going crazy with this GPS issue. Will replacing the antenna help ? I have tried all the software solutions, its just not able to see any satellite or takes a good 2 minutes to even see one satellite (based of app GPS essentials)

Sounds like something is blocking the antenna or like you thought it's damaged don't happen to be using a metal case Do you?
No not using any case at all. Looks like i will have to open the back again to see if the antenna is placed properly or probably replace the antenna itself.

ok it's hardware related problem then!
hope you are still under warranty for the repair!!
I just went to Samsung Assistance and they directly ordered a new motherboard because I have had other issues some days ago plus no gps signal.. hope this fixes it entirely!
