I got an Atrix last month, I'm new to Android and haven't really had time to figure out rooting, sideloading, tethering, roms (odexed/deoxexed), etc...
My question is this - what am I really missing out because the Atrix has a signed bootloader?
It seems that custom ROMS are available for the Atrix and other motorola devices with a signed/locked bootloader. What practical limitations does not being able to install a custom kernel impose?
Ability to run stock versions of new Android versions might be one limitation... but I've heard that unless there's an official update, hardware acceleration doesn't work.
Also, can anyone point me to a primer about Android hacking/development concepts?
I am also interested to know definitively as well.
signed bootloader will prevent us from install any unsigned kernel.
so mainly, if motorola will not give us a android 2.4 update, no way that we can install any custom 2.4 system.
locked and signed are different. locked bootloader is easy/possible to unlocked.
but signed bootloader hardly can be solved.
like moto droid, the bootloader also been signed, few custom roms. but moto milestone, the international version of droid, the bootloader had only been locked, alot of custom roms there.

That gives me a lot of hope the Canadian Atrix might have a locked but unsigned bootloader... Will find out next week, I guess.
opposite the droid has closed bootloader and have it signed landmark.
The Roms are for the milestone are based on the kernel of motorola!
todo lo contrario el droid tiene el bootloader cerrado y el hito lo tiene firmado.
Las Roms que hay para el hito son basadas en el kernel de motorola!
PS: Sorry for my English

the thing is. the canadian atrix is almost 99% sure the same as the US version. so if the canadian one will not have unsigned bootloader, then the US version of the phone will be do the chicken dance.
even though. i think from now on, most if not all companies will have a signed bootloader.
No company wants you to keep your old phone. with karnels and stuff more and more people find almost no reason to upgrade.
"if my phone can have the same software as a new phone, why would i upgrade ? "
they keep talking about CPU and GPU. yet there are not enough games to justify the GPU graphics update and buy a new phone. at the end of the day, this is a phone with ability to play games. not a gaming handheld with the ability to make a call.
Now you can unlock your ZTE Blade B03 & B04 by IMEI for only 1 €.

hi,
My Galaxy S8 is the SM-G950F (Exynos variant), i bought it full price from AT&T Mexico, It´s not SIM Unlocked (although i could go to a store and unlock it) and has a "branded" ROM
I wouldnt care if it wasnt because it has never received a freaking update, it came with the April security patch and that´s it. Is the a way to sideload the unbranded rom and receive updates directly from samsung? When i had the Moto X i remember i could do this but not sure if this is possible with samsung devices.
Someone pointed me to updato.com but there´s no unbranded ROM for my country so i dont know which one to load and not loose anything as in 4G or warranty
Has anyone from Mexico has already done this?
Thanks!

Hello guys, I just got the global version of this phone a few days ago, also I have updated to Oreo (Jan 1st update). I can't get 4G network connection with a service provider called Movistar and/or Virginmobile (they are using the band 2), but with AT&T (band 4) the LTE signal is working. Seems like this phone is working only with two service providers here in Mexico, Telcel and AT&T only. Do you know if there is a way to make this phone really useful with all the service providers? Thanks!
*Note: Unefon (using AT&T network) and FreedoomPop (using Telcel network) are providing LTE service too.

Aparentemente lo que dicen en los foros de MIUI es que el telefono no soporta la banda 2 y es por eso que los que tenemos movistar tristemente no podremos usar el LTE
Bro,Xiaomi currently only support the AWS band, not the PCS band
So a quick one here, I have the SM-G975U1 Unlocked Galaxy S10+, and I flashed it to the SM-G975U TMB firmware. So far its ok - the t-mo advanced messaging and voice calling works, but it does say the "your current software version isn't supported. Visit a service center". I did some searching, and I saw there is a SM-G975U1 TMB version as well.
I am a bit confused by this - I thought all unlocked firmware was U1, and carrier branded firmware is U. Has anyone flashed this U1 TMB and got all the carrier features? What is this version?
And a side note, is there no difference between flashing U or U1 firmware between phones, or is it better practice to flash the U1 firmware on U1 devices?
Thanks!
There is no difference in hardware. U1 will lose some of the tmobile stuff for sure. I have U1 and there is no VoLTE so far. I tried to get virtual vm to work and there is no way. There is no U1 TMB, it's just SIM provisioning. if you want tmobile stuff, you can go ahead and flash their firmware. where do you get this error you mentioned? "your current software version isn't supported. Visit a service center"

Volte works outta the box for u1 on tmobile, you won't find an option but it is working, you can check by making a call and it'll be on lte if you have volte, and visual voicemail you can't get integrated into dialer but you can use the stand alone app, only difference is the TMobile bloat bewtween the firmwares and the u1 has the native scam caller

So, do you get the HD icon next to the caller's name? I have tried to native visual vm didn't work... Did you get yours to work? if so, what is your app version?

You won't get the hd icon because that's a tmo firmware thing, doesn't mean volte isn't working, if your lte icon doesnt go away during a call you have volte, as for the VM app just download from playstore
^this! Good call!
U1 supports VoWifi and VoLTE. No VVM nor Video Calling. The VoLTE indicator is missing, yes, but U1 models have supported it on TMO since S8. RCS is likely not supported by the stock Messenger app.
Unlike the TMO var, U1 has Hiya built in. And of course there's no SIM unlock code.

I got this when I went to conduct a software update.
However I guess no one has any insight on the original question regarding if there is an actual TMB U1 firmware as indicated on SamFirm?
Question for anyone who wants to answer. I have a SM-977U Verizon S10 5G Model. If I flash it using Oden to firmware version SM-975U1 will it affect the network performance and speed of the phone? Has anyone Don this yet?

Are you sure you actually get better signal, or is it just visual adjustments which Carriers have been known to do?
https://wccftech.com/android-p-will-let-carriers-tweak-how-signal-bars-are-shown/
And if it is signal, is it possible to flash U1 with the t-mobile modem?
So can we flash tmobile rom on Verizon s10+ been out of the game so long

The signal definitely improved a lot. With U1 I use to have one bar or no signal inside my office at work. Now, I have about 3 bars inside my office. In regard to mixing firmware, I believe it's not possible
so the U1 is on June update with Night mode available? or is it still on May?
