Keyboard not showing up on Nook Simple Touch - Nook Touch General

Hi all,
I just gotten a new Nook simple touch & followed the instruction here (http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/hack-your-nook-simple-touch-into-a-super-e-reader-in-three-easy-steps/) to do a root for the device.
After rooting the device, i followed the instruction as stated here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086582) to install Google Playstore/Market.
Once i finish doing these 2 procedures, after the device boot up, the keyboard does not show up anymore.
Can anyone please help?
[Update: i just did a full reset of the device to restore it to factory setting. But the keybaord still does not show up]

Hmmm. Strange problem, but I can probably fix it.
Firstly, please go on your Nook, press the "n" button, open Settings, and then navigate to Social > Link to Facebook, Twitter, and Google > Link to Google. Then, long-press on one of the sign-in text boxes, and tap "Input method". Please tell me what comes up there.

Android boot loop...and can't revert!

...my effort to install Android on my new NOOK Color went smoothly until it started to boot and the boot screen just keeps spinning.
Read many posts appearing to address this issue but reverting to a stock reader seems to require various apps only for a PC. Being a Mac weenie this leaves me out in the cold.
...is there a Mac-centric reader here who can help me return my NOOK into the reader it originally was?
I'm a bit gun shy now of making the device both an Android tablet and a reader! Thanks much in advance.
...addendum!
...playing around with the NOOK I was able to raise a reboot option which, to my surprise, cured whatever fault was behind the boot loop. A couple of spins and CM7 in all its glory appeared.
...but now I can only reboot into CM7...seems to be no option to boot into the original B&N book/magazine reader.
What am I missing? What's the "open sesame" to choose the reader? Tnx again.

One thing your missing is giving us information regarding your setup and what you want and/or are expecting.
Is this a SD install of CM7? If so... when you power it up... press and hold "n" button to get the boot menu... selecting eMMC / Normal boot will boot into stock.

...thanks much for the quick response.
...yes, I did an SD install of CM7 with all the Google apps, etc.
My objective is to be able to toggle back and forth between the B&N reader and the Android tablet. If this isn't possible I'd like to go back to the reader.
Unfortunately I can't get the boot menu with the "n" button when I power up. Andoid mounts and a white screen offers only "power off" or "re-boot"...no other options.
...following the instructions I used from the web for installing CM7 I removed the SD card before I formatted, etc. Is this an issue?
Looping Problem
Okay so I think I may have the same problem hopefully someone can help. So first I install CM7 and then it gave me when I tried opening the market so I was like okay... so then I downloaded and install manuelnooker and now im boot looping .. So I insert the SD and turn it on but it doesnt boot up to recovery. I only see CM7 and then it boot loops into Nook Color With the big N on top and the small android bottom right corner. Can anyone help me out on what is the best way to get back into recovery. I know if I turn it on while holding the N its says CM7 and in the bottom it shows recovery but never goes to it. Much help please..
Okay so I finally got into CWR but now it gives me an error formatting data when I select mounts and storage and select format data? Im trying to revert back the nook color using nook complete restore 1.0.1. and I try doing it format data in the opening screen but I flash the zip and boot loops. any help is much appreciated.. Thanks
...some progress!
...less sleep but some progress.
...after several unsuccessful attempts I finally got the NOOK to restore to factory specs with the "8 interrupted boot" sequence [can't post the URL because I don't have eight posts yet :-( ].
Wasn't necessary to do the second step described in the post...NOOK automatically did the restore after zeroing the data and my B&N account can be accessed without more.
...but now I no longer have Android capability. Is there any way to install a simple toggle mechanism for both on the same tablet?

You never fully described what you did to begin with. Did you follow specific steps on a site? If so, let's have the URL.....

Nook Simple Touch Can't boot

I followed the instructions listed in the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1380400
I skipped the "Change the powered off screen image" step.
When I was editing db file list in the "Blocking OTA updates:" step,
I saw Nook Simple Touch was restarted.
After that, my nook simple touch didn't boot into system at all.
I tried fully hard reset yesterday, it didn't work.
Now it is stuck at the screen "nook by Barnes & Nobel" with five circles below.
After a long wait, it says "Application Settings (in process com.android.media) is not responding" etc.
Is it bricked ?
How can I get my nook simple touch work again ?
Solved now
Solved now? That's it?
How about sharing what you did.

Bricked Nook Color??

I rooted my nook color and then decided to unroot it. However, I was not smart enough to look up how to unroot the nook properly. I selected the wipe and restore option. Now when I turn on my nook, It won't let me sign into my account and proceed. It states, "sorry we're having trouble setting up your NOOK. Please shutdown the device and try again". I've done so several times for the past couple of days and had no luck. The nook color was running 1.4.3 and it is the 8gb model. I used the manual nooter 5.02.19 and clockwork 3.2.0.1 eyeballer for the original root. Is there any way to fix this? Thanks
Have you tried 8+1 reboots?
That's were you start to reboot the unit but as soon as you see something on the screen you hold down the power button and start the process over, (you are interrupting the boot process). You'll need to do that 8 times. If you miss and it reboots you'll have to start over. On the ninth time it will be pretty clear that things have changed but in the end you should see Kate as though you had turned the system on for the very first time.

I just did exactly that and it reinstalled the software and cleared the data. It looks different from before but it's still giving me the same error message. And then when I power off the nook, i can see the rooted android interface with the bottom taskbar. The card is out of the nook as well. Is the 8+1 reboot method the only way?
Are you able to connect to wifi? You have to be able to do that before it will let you log in to your account and set up.

Yeah, I connected to my wifi. Its the last step in the setup process that is giving me trouble which is signing into my bn.com account.

What is the exact model number as seen on the box?
ah ha...I can help you.
You have a nook that was probably not originally registered to you or has the original registration messed up somehow.
You need to skip the out-of-box experience. Misry, you know this...
When your girl Kate shows up, hold volume up, tap the bottom right corner of the screen and then the bottom left
A green box for the Factory Screen pops up. Select it.
hold volume up again and tap bottom right. Skip OOBE button comes up. Select it.
This will allow the Nook to run stock normally, w/o registration (even after reoot!)
You should be able to completely erase the original registration since you have wifi through the settings menu. Just go to factory reset from there.
Sweet, right? It was my saving grace when my wifi chip borked and no matter what wipes I did, the nook would crash when it tried to remember my saved network config. Only a true, complete factory reset loses that stuff (including the original registration stuff.)

"Setup assistent has been closed" loop after flashing gApps

Hey guys,
I flashed this ROM on my LG G2 (802) http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/development/rom-official-mokee-source-project-t3274849/page2. Everything has been okay so far.
In the Mokee thread I read installing gApps would work like this:
"you can go MokeeCenter after starting rom, there you can download the small gapps integrated into the system and have a lighter and clean rom."
Unfortunally for me there was no option to download gApps via "MokeeCenter". Of course I found Settings -> MokeeCenter.
So I decided to download open_gapps-arm-6.0 (has been the minimal version, I think) and flashed it.
After I rebooted into system, I now am stuck at a popup which immediately and continiously pops up, saying "setup assistent has been closed". So I cannot do anything else than pressing "ok ok ok ok ok ok"
Big problem for me now is, that for some unknown reason, I cannot boot into twrp recovery using one of the hardkey methods.
I usually was able to do it like this:
- Shut down.
- Press power + volume down until LG logo appears.
- Release only power button, then immediately press power button again (while still pressing volume down).
I think I now tried any of the other methods as well (power + volume up instead of down... or release power AND volume down, then press both again... and so on...)
None of them work for me.
I might have to mention, that after the first appear of the popup loop, I read something about flashing "bootstack-d802-CAF-signed" as part of a solution.
I did so, but it diddn't help. Instead of a solution this might be part of my problem, because since I was able to flash it I obvously must have been able to enter twrp before this step.
What should I do now?
By the way: Can some of you tell me, if the annoying crackle/hissing of my headphones is gone with Android M?
I want to know this, because this has been the ONLY reason for me to flash Android M, since I wasn't able to find a solution for Android Lollipop (CM12). I find it extremely (!) uncomfortable to talk to people using my bose qc25 headphones/headset since my Lollipop update, because everytime when a person speaks just a few words with longer pauses between the single words, I have sound errors and hissing/crackles and even some really wired kind of "distortion" at the beginning of each single word and often have to ask people to repeat what they said.
The headphones themselves sound absolutely okay, it's just with the LG G2 phone. (i.e. a friend's Samsung S5 works fine with the bose qc25)
If this bug isn't gone with Android M (or at least fixable) I think I will buy a new cellphone instead of trying to unbrick my LG G2 if unbricking will be a pain in the ass, so I am very interested in an answer regarding the sound bug as well.
Thank you for reading.
with best regards,
Milan
I now have been able to setup a guest account. Running the guest account, I can quit the popup by pressing "ok" once. It doesn't return and is followed by "Gallery stopped" which I am able to quit too. But as guest I cannot get root access to use a software based reboot to recovery, right?
follow these steps
1. go to settings and find applications menu
2. select find system applications from menu
3. find installiation wizard or something else (i am using my rom in Turkish "Kurulum Sihirbazı".
4. click on it and edit permissions
5. enable people and phone sections.
6. cheers

Problem was, I could not navigate because there has been this fu*** popup always on top.
I have been able to enable root access and advanced shutdown options by clicking almost 1000 times "ok" at the annoying popup while I used another finger to tap something at the screen as soon as possible. Scrolling was like stuck motion this way... So I have been able to enter twrp and flash another rom.
Nonetheless I tested calling a person with the guest account (by allowing phone calls for guests via the same "tapping-technique"... took me aboout 10 minutes) and found out, there are exactly the same hissing /crackling problems with Android M than with Android L. So I will try Android Kitkat now. This bug is very common. Is there someone who can tell me a working solution? I am pretty sure my phone did not have this bug when I bought it with Kitkat OS installed. So a kitkat rom is my last hope right now.

Milan

Nook Simple Touch Freeze at "NookManager loading..." screen, HELP IS FOR SCHOOL!!! :C

Nook Simple Touch Freeze at "NookManager loading..." screen, HELP IS FOR SCHOOL!!! :C
Ive just tried to root my Nook Simple Touch which is at 1.2.1 firmware, but when i insert the formatted microsd with the image mounted trhough win32image , it freeze at the screen of "NookManager, loading..." i have tried with everything, restart it with the power button, with de usb cable, format the nook, the SD and NOTHING!
PLEASE HELP! I need to read a lot for school and after buying the nook i was hoping it will help me with my sight.
Relax. Breathe. Let's do this step by step.
Does it boot without the SD card? What happens if it is removed and the nook restarted?
If it is unresponsive: Does pressing/holding the Power button do anything? If not press Power & right Up-button and hold - the nook should attempt to boot from SD. If we got this far, let's go deeper.
1. What kind of Nook is it - bought in UK or US?
2. Has it been registered? (If yes, question 1 is moot, if not: UK nooks can't be registered anymore and have to be flashed with the US ROM --> https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...ons-registering-uk-nook-simple-touch-t3461576)
3. If it has it been registered, did it work/boot normally?
4. What root package did you use, where did you get Nook Manager from? The right place would be here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2040351
5. Did you follow the steps in the Nook Manager thread? Try that again if you did'nt.
If you got it rooted, read the forums. READ. Much has changed, much does not work anymore, many threads reflect changes only very late, and many people who used to know stuff have disappeared.

After the freeze on "NookManager Loading..." screen, take off the SD and the hold the power button till it restart to a regular and normal use.
1. Bought used in US ebay
2. Yes, registered
3. Yes, it work normally
4. I followed the steps in your link (the forum.xda ones)
5. Ive tried those steps, one by one, not a pro on rooting, but ive followed this kinds of steps sucessfully on other devices.
Many thanks for caring and your time on this, really really appreciate it!
SOLVED!!!!!!
It results that the softwares has to be used estrictly on Windows 8.1 or lower, i was trying to on Windows 10 and when tried on a 8.1, it just took me 3 minutes to rooted, THANKS!!!
Thanks for documenting the answer to your problem.
