[Q] Samsung S5 changing body colour - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I currently have a Samsung S3 which is VERY slow. Lags a lot any has terrible battery life. Upgrade needed ASAP
I got given a Samsung S5, for free, however it's in gold. Out of the four colours, this is the worst, however I still appreciate it was for free.
For someone that cares a lot about looks of the phone, I think S5's are ugly anyway, and for it to be gold is even worse. It makes the phone look cheap, and gold only looks good on iPhones.
I also despise phone cases, I believe they ruin the feel of the phone, (and, well the look of it but the look of this phone is bad anyway because of the gold).
I also have warranty on it for another year.
My question is - is there anyway I can change the colour of it? Like I said I really want to upgrade but I absolutely DESPISE the golden colour. I'd rather stick with the S3. I need a way to change the colour without voiding the warranty. I know the back cases can easily be bought and changed however the sides of the phone are also gold, unlike the black and blue where the sides are both silver (so you can easily change the cases and have the different colours).
I intend using this until October, when the new iPhone comes out. I hate to say that I'm moving to iOS, but I've been on android for a good 3 years, I love it, but I'd like a change.
Thank you.

Pretty sure the easiest way would be to sell it and buy another in a different colour.

Hmm.. I did think of that, but I'd lose my warranty.

Actually I believe the electric blue is not a unique color since it's just a black s5 with a blue back cover(which you can buy online for $15 or less)

Yep... Unfortunately its not the same for the gold one, as the gold one actually has a gold body too. All the other ones have silver bodies. I really wanna use this S5.
Perhaps someone can suggest me a case that is very very very thin but hides the colour. Thank you.

yes comentar needed

BUMPpppp

Buy a case I own a Trident aegis and it's perfect

Q3 2006, they say...
some more info here : http://www.engadget.com/2006/03/09/hands-on-with-the-htc-hermes-t-mobile-mda-vario-ii/
the specs are nice, but I can't say I'm too fond of the Magician-esque buttons/layout. One of the main reasons I got the Wizard is that the buttons felt a lot more accessible and integrated, and have a larger area to push, than almost all competing products.
i like this design a lot. what i don't really like, is the pink color.
It's not actually pink - it looks pink because they had a pink light overhead. I don't know -why- they chose to take their pictures under that light, but it might be related to...
It's a T-Mobile branded version. That's why the UI is pink. Just don't get a T-Mobile one - or make sure to load a different Theme shortly after acquiring it
Ive seen it available on some sites but just to buy

I think that the pink is reflected light from somewhere.
http://www.infosyncworld.com/eu/mobility/communicator/t-mobile_mda_vario_ii.html
Looks nice here, I like what they have done with the keyboard / numbers
I had one in my hands the other day at the tmobile shop the manager is pally with me and took one out of the box and it is A: a lot lighter
b: very fast on 3g
c:nicer keyboard layout easier on the eye
d:a horrible colour
eddieitman, u sure it was lighter? T-Mobile's website says it's heavier that the MDA (176g vs 160g).
Either way looks like there are enough improvements to warrant getting it, when it's time for my upgrade...
Anyone know if it has the same crappy stylus design that becomes loose after a few months?
well to me it felt lighter maybe just the way it feals in your hand as it is smoother.
I can confirm that the stylus is exactly the same as the vario
Doesnt look like a drastic improvement though, I mean, theres nothing on there that would make me shell out another couple of hundred quid to upgrade
I wonder if it wobbles around on a table top like the Wizard does?

i tested one of the prototypes a few months ago, an i was very pleased with the feel en touch of this one. for me it's worth upgrading when final version is here, but if i had to pay for it, i'm not sure if i'd buy it.
probarly i would, as a gadgetlover

Debating Selling my HTC One for an S4

Hi guys,
I'm a newbie to the world of Android, coming from several years of iPhone ownership. I can't say that I am convinced yet that Android is a better OS and I do find quite a lot of irritations that I never experienced with the iPhone. That said, I'm on a corporate tariff so can buy and sell my phone whenever. I'm in the UK by the way and am on a Vodafone tariff. I see a few S4s on eBay, selling new for around £400 unlocked, which is about the going rate for a used HTC One.
I really want to give Android a good year to see how I get on with it and have splashed out on an HTC One two weeks ago. I can't say I entirely love the device - mostly from a cosmetic angle - and am contemplating ebaying it and picking up an S4 instead.
Thoughts? What made you go S4 over the One? Am I daft?
Go on then, grab the S4, guvnah.
It's awesome ^^ I had the One but didn't like it so I exchanged it for an S4. Awesome camera in this one.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
If you ignore the cosmetic difference. S4, I would say, blows the One out of the water in almost all the other areas. You couldn't go wrong with an S4
I have an S4 and love it. So does my wife, and she's a technophobe. Removable battery and SD card sealed it for me. If you like to tinker, great OS. Heck, if you want it to look like iOS, I'm sure there's a mod for it. Have fun.

You're in the S4 section so for sure you'll get people here convincing you to get the s4.
My friend was looking to get an xperia z, but I showed him my s4, and compared it side by side with an xz in the mall. Guess what, he immediately changed his mind!
If you do get the S4, though, get the i9505 (Qualcomm+LTE) instead of the i9500 (exynos octa) if you're interested in AOSP.

There's a way you can have the bootloader locked as if it was never unlocked at all, and the tampered sign gone. It's called revone and it doesn't require root nor an unlocked bootloader.

What is it that makes you unhappy about the HTC One? Do you think the S4 is better in those ways? You are used to IOS and switching anything you are used to can be painful. Why do you want an android phone? I love my S4, but I'm used to android.
I'll try to give you an unbiased summary between the One and S4:
One:
32GB internal memory standard
Better speakers and brighter display.
People seem to prefer the look
Better camera in low light
More polished software
Blinkfeed
S4:
Removable battery
MicroSD storage
Better contrast in display due to true blacks
Better camera excluding low light
Software is lacking polish (must trust updates will fix these issues)
Lots of bells and whistles (fun to try and show off, but most people ultimately turn these off)
If you decide S4, this might help you decide which S4.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42230741#post42230741
Adding one more thing to the One vs S4 list. One has onscreen buttons as opposed to actual buttons on the S4, many people (I sure do) find that to be an advantage for the S4.

Hi. I think I'm going to stick with the HTC. I gave my wife my iPhone 5 and took HTC One on contract (hers) instead. At the time I preferred the look of the HTC, but now I prefer the curvy white lines of the S4 - though it does seem somewhat cheap feeling. I fear that I'll miss the brightness of the HTC out doors (I already feel it's not bright enough).
I personally think that the S4 looks better, and like the fact that I could use it case-less without worrying about scratching the back, it's replaceable.
The HTC on the other hand I can't use naked because the seams between the front speaker covers aren't a perfect fit to the body, there's a very slight edge to them which my fingers instantly find and get botherer about, so it lives in a Poetic case. I guess they both have pros and cons but are also very similar.
I could agonise over this all night.

Personally, if the only thing is the look, I would stick with the HTC. Functionally if you are happy, then stick with it. It's a really great phone.
Is there any way you could try the s4 out, via a friend or walk in phone shop maybe? You should know straight away if you want to sell the HTC One for it or not

Anker Glaze Minimalistic Case

I just wanted to make a quick post to show some pictures of the new case that I got in today. I just couldn't find a whole lot of post about cases and none about this one specifically.
I'll use it for a few days to go into further detail about day to day use.
First impressions are great due to the overall look and feel of the case.
It has an awesome texture that feels like very fine sandpaper that's been used and is now smooth if that makes any sense. It also fits perfectly with a very durable and tight fit. It doesn't feel like its going to fall off or wear and lose form but only time will tell.
It also has an open top and bottom which I love simply because I can use my Audio Technica headphones again without having to take my case off every time I want to listen to music. I would love to have a closed top and bottom that also fits the headohone jack but that wishful thinking as I've yet to come across one that does.
The color is great but not the same as the picture on Amazon. It's much darker in person which isn't a bad thing just not what I expected. Even still I'm glad that I got to get a colorful case as I missed out on the Cyber Monday Moto Maker deal and had to settle for a woven white TMO Moto X. Not complaining, just kind of bummed I didn't get my custom paint job. This case is a nice alternative.
I also like that the Anker branding on the back isn't tacky and huge. Most case makers need to take a note and not slap their ugly logo or lame name all over the case and if they want too then at least make it small like Anker did. Keep it simple.
That's all I can really say at this point but will update later after a few days of use.
Here's the link in case you want to snag on for yourself:

Yeah the color looks nothing like yours. I have a case just like it but mine is from bear motion. It had more colors to choose from. I bought a gray and red/brown. I will probably get a green one soon. Very nice cases.
Yeah, I saw the Bear Motion cases after I had already placed my order. No big deal though because I love the blue color of the Anker. How have the cases held up over time? They seem really durable.

Just got my black BearMotion case which is pretty much the same thing as this, and the feel is great. I have a White Woven back and it was hella slippery. This case helps a ton, is very minimal, thin, and feels great in the hands.

I actually just got them yesterday, so unsure how they will hold up. The blue looks great, I will probably purchase one in that color too. Well as long as my wife lets me. lol
These are available on ebay with no branding. I've got a black one it's nice. There's also a frosted clear case, with same form factor, which is the best case ever. Love how slim these are, and how they don't interfere with front of phone at all. Do wish they covered top and bottom though.

New Galaxy S6 Edge Renders

looks much better in black than in white, not sure about the protruding home button and camera though

This one looks way better than the white one we've seen so far!
As for the camera and homebutton ... this is a piece you shouldn't carry around without a case, so that will be no problem to me.

kind of like those people that buy those cases like otter box,etc that increase the phone size by 3-5 times. i can understand if you work in construction and the like, but most people aren't construction workers.
only good thing about these kind of users is they preserve it for the person that buys them used lol.. they never really get to enjoy the full glorious phone. on my S4 i have a spigen neo hybrid, that's as far as i will go with a case, and i often go through periods where i remove the case just to really enjoy the phone's feel. typically i am pretty careful with my gadgets, but there are MANY dumb careless users like those that put their phone in their back pocket and crack the screen on day 1.
wait for release day, i guarantee there will be multiple threads how cheap the phone is because they either dropped it or sat on it.

I have an HTC One M7 and while for the most part I don't use a case every once in a while I do just throw one on. It's normally one of those snap on jobs that just covers the back. I don't know if people who use cases more always have a case on? I guess if you want to protect it in case you want to sell it on later?
The thing that worries me most with cameras that stick out is the glass getting scratched

Questioning my purchase...hand discomfort.

Hey everyone...
I love just about everything with my new S6 Edge...but I have to say that the narrow metal band around the sides starts to dig into my hands after using it for a while, and gets uncomfortable. I am kind of wishing I went with the regular S6 now...
I guess I could get a case to help with this...?? I usually hate cases and would want something absolutely minimal..maybe even just a bumper case.
Thoughts or recommendations?
That sucks...I hope I don't have this issue. Also, why not go exchange it?
having same issue with me though is weneva i type n use one hand n say i get to the other side of the keyboard i smash into another letter...I believe a case will help i just ordered mine.

Which cases did you go for?
The Edge is so think and slippery it's probably a bad idea to carry it naked. I have big hands and it does feel awkward to hold. I'm debating if I won't to go get the clear T-Mobile case at cost or save a few more bucks on Amazon. I just want something now. As far as going with the S6 I just like the look of the Edge a lot better.
I went for the spigen neo hybrid it provides not only a nice grip but also protection it also comes with a free screen protector. Should look into it
Same issue here. I was already going to send mine back because of scratches, but the more I use the edge, I'm thinking I'd be happier with a regular one. I'm torn because I think the regular one looks awful, where as the edge looks gorgeous. The digging into awful, I could probably get used to it, but I'm just running into little usability things here and there making it tricky for me to use. I use my phone a lot one handed in landscape mode, I barely ever use portrait view. I'm finding it's hard to grip one handed in landscape comfortably, and the screen ends up registering my fingers that are holding onto the phone since I need them to be a bit more tight and on the screen when im doing one handed. If it had a little more side to it , I dont think this would be an issue, and wouldnt dig into my fingers. Also it's a ***** getting off a flat table. I love the bubble effect the edge has on video though, really makes it pop. I'm afraid I'll be sacrificing too many positives for comfort and functionality.
This is the only thing that has me at a crossroads between both phones grr,
I'v read a lot about the S6 Edge being sharp after continuous use and talk about the color problems with a pinkish discoloration that only effects the S6 Edge. However the price is probably justified, I mean how many phones look this sleek and eye catching? Probably saves me from spending it on other random **** so might as well invest, plus developers will be working on tonnes of additional features for the Edge's capability, I think the stock features are just the start of great ideas.
However the cons about the regular S6 make me look back to the Edge ha it's a roundabout, I'll admit when I went into O2 UK and experienced the phone first hand I loved it, I own a Iphone 6+ and comparing it with the regular S6 minus the screen difference I found it hard to differentiate the two afar, the beveled edges and design positioning (speakers, power input etc).
The Edge gives a remarkable & memorable first glance I WANT IT feeling however the recent user reviews are wavering my urge to preorder the phone or purchase on-release. I'm not sure how the sharp edge where the glass meets metal will effect the user? I don't want to buy a phone that hurts ha i'm not buying a phone to experience pain after 20 minutes of use in one-hand, or isn't it as bad as first put?
I would hate regretting my decision in buying the Edge, I'm not a hate on apple person I have an Iphone and have owned many android devices mainly HTC and wanted to try out an Apple product, but I find it hard to tell the regular S6 apart from a IP6 apart from specifications.
In the end I'll probably go with my gut and purchase the Edge, the emerald color looks magnificent but there's been no answer on which carrier will stock it or when, hints on end of July but I can't wait that long ha, the black/navy looks amazing, black in the dark but a great navy hue in light is amazing, the fingerprint problem isn't a biggie, quick wipe on your shirt and it's sorted?
Any Edge users comment on the sharp issue or have experienced any discomfort in using the device?
--- I want it ))))
Yea its discomfort but a case should solve the problem. Its hard getting use to this phone as the screen pops out instead of the back. Also headphone jack on the bottom is weird to me. Other than that phone is a beast picture quality is amazing.
I use to have this problem with my note edge. Once you put a thin case on the phone it's feels amazing, almost like Samsung built the phone with the intentions of having a case on
Sent from my SM-N915V
I had a similar problem. The metallic edges I didntnfind were to sharp...but The thinness of the phone + a flat back + slipperiness made it kind of awkward to hold.
I have a spigen case that definitely made it more comfortable to hold. The edges are thicker and softer as well.
I was going to go caseless but I didn't want to take any chances. Once I put the below case on it its even better. I think it's perfect. Good Grip and minimal bulk.

Stupid Question about the case, It doesn't effect the usability of the Edge (screen) does it? I.E Swiping from the right/left
Thanks
Have any of you bought the bumper case by spigen? I am thinking about picking it up.
Other than the sharp sides, I don't really have anything bad to say about the phone. It looks stunning, has been nice and peppy, and battery life has been fine for me.

No issues what so ever with the case and the screen. Fits perfect.
OP, i warned people before the phone ever came out.. i posted what you're experience here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/general/s6-s6-edge-t3043748/post59649530#post59649530
i kind of got trolled and glad to see i was right...
guess all you can do is get a case to cover up those razor sharp edges :cyclops:
Man, this post kinda bothers me now about the Edge. I normally like to rock my phones naked, because I like showing off the beauty of my phones. Now I've got some thinking to do before making my purchase... I did order the slim case from Spigen, and it just came in today, but every single time I do put a case on my phones they only last a week before I can't stand them any more... Sigh...

My advice is to feel the phone for a few days and then return it if it's too bad. I know it doesn't sound practical, but not everyone will have the same experience. I hope it feels good for you!
yes better to try out both in person, me personally i loved holding the edge i didnt want to put it back on display haha
Worst case scenario, if you can't return it or exchange it, you get a slim case to improve comfort and grip on the edges. Best part is you don't lose the benefits of the curved screen, whether it's software features or just the look and feel of the curved edges. I'm really happy with my case.
