Alright, hey guys, i've stumbled upon something i'm curious about..
i just got my N9005 (UGNG1 uk unlocked version)
my old phone was a s2 skyrocket, and my old phone had 4g and it worked fine on straight talk in my area,
now knowing that there is straight talk 4 g in my area getting my new phone it doesn't seem to get 4g,
only H/H+ it seems odd to me that a phone by the same manufacturer wouldn't get the same service in
the same area, the note 3 seems to be capable of running both bands that my skyrocket had.
(band 17/700 band 4/1700-2100) why is it that i'm not getting nearly the same speed of internet on my note
3 versus my old gal s2 skyrocket?
Can you select LTE/WCDMA/GSM (auto) in Network settings > Network Mode?
Have you tried it with a newer SIM? Old SIMcards and new smartphones usually don't go well together.
Yes the sim is brand new it came in a straight talk bring your own phone GSM packet. it's a microsim that came with an adapter for the regular sized sim. Also GSM/WCDMA/LTE is selected it seems to me that the channel its operating on is not the same channel as well i cant access *#2263# to force the channel.
(Edit: one handed opertaion typo not used to that! Lol)

If you are on AT&T (or T-Mobile) - I believe there is a specific thread on that subject but I don't remember anybody fixing that one (but i could be wrong).
It seems like all the phones i buy have some kind of problem with the note 2 it was knoxx not letting me install any custom roms without safestrap that i literally couldnt do anything with.. with the skyrocket it was otterbox availability (apparently they discontinued the model) and the screens were extremely fragile and expensve. I swear the next phone i buy will be a motorola 8900x-2...
Also heres a speedtest of H+ at my house. Its not really even worth complaining about. It just seems odd to me that out of my 2 phones one says 4g and one doesnt. Ill get a screenie of my skyrocket later for comparison, and edit this post to include it if thats possible.

They must have just added this a day or two ago, because last time I checked, which was 2 days ago, that wasn't there
Can anyone else confirm this in their area?
Would you still have to unlock your phone like a sim unlock? Or do you just simply flash the metroPCS ROM and be on your merry way? Or do they do this in a store?
In store I would imagine. I called a bunch of retailers around here and almost all of them still said they couldn't do it, so I don't know why they have it on the metroflash site like that.
Jacksonville, FL - YES!! Its listed. yeppi.......
I wouldn't get my hopes up, no one around here can do it for me, but it may be different for you.
I am interested in metro mainly due to sprints latest tou adjustment. Them nickles and dimes are bleeding me. Anyone with metro chime in on network coverage, data speeds ect.
I have evo on cricket and its android plan. I have direct internet my speeds are 1.2 to 1.4 download speeds and up to .9 upload. Evo internet seems to be much faster than HD2 on tmobile
i did it and it was the best move i did i seen ads on craigslist for people doing it for 125 and they fix everything for you but i looked at the guides and thought i could do it becuase i did it on my droid so i paid 30$ and the did everything myself the root the diag drivers the cdma workshop the qpst even after that my mms and voicemail didnt work but i already fixed that the only problem im having is keeping my batter alive more than 2 and a half hours
Thanks for the heads up--I was able to find a metropcs dealer in my area (star cellular on fruitvale, oakland, ca: 510-336-3100). Got them to flash and add my esn. Now I'm poking around, figuring how to get internet/data working. Thx!
Damn, Metro's on the come up. LOL Gonna have to let my cuz know about this, he's been wanting an EVO on Metro for a minute.
What are the data speeds like on Metro? I am in SF bay area if it matters.
what r good roms
metro's network is 1x only except for dallas and detroit where its spotty. theyre skipping 3g and going directly to lte
Avoid Metro unless you are switching to their new 4G LTE service
The good: unlimited talk, unlimited text
The bad: Their data is only 1X, meaning it is very slow. Some picture messages end up undelivered when sending to friends on other cell networks. (Sprint, Verizon, TMobile)
If you are switching to Metro PCS's new 4G LTE service then yes, else avoid at all cost.
I can verify that regular metro branded phones are indeed running at 1x. For ****s and giggles I set up wireless tether and let someone use it. They said its definitely faster. Lol
They are advertising 4g in my area too but someone told me the only android that metro offers with 4g is the galaxy s. I wonder if LTE is as spotty and range limited as wimax. There's wimax in my area but you need to be very close to a tower to get connection and decent speed.
I've tried to look this up however so far I've seen mixed results.
Is the Verizon variant of the LG G2 AWS able to utilize the AWS spectrum which Verizon is beginning to activate across the USA?
I am trying to find out as well. Specs for the VZW version do not say this device supports band 4 which is where VZW has their AWS spectrum.
I have a family member who works in VZW and he's going to have his"Device Guy" check and let me know.
It may have it, since the GSM model does, and the suspected Nexus 5 passed through FCC with support for band 4, even though it didn't have 7 (VZW LTE)

If phonescoop is correct, it says it does have the ban IV 1700 just like the note 3 and the S4 have.

Yea, I saw that as well however it's the only website that mentions this. Even the specs on Verizon's website don't mention anything....
Is there a way to check the LTE bands on a phone via an app, (secret) menu or something?
from what I read is only those that are in the AWS area's like new york can check to find out. its the method the signal of the phone connects to the AWS tower. one guy posted that on his iphone that it changing as in the picture provided but I am not sure if about phone will give that level of detail about connection with a tower. see image

So we just need to find someone in the NYC area with a G2 and ask them?
Sounds easy enough....
yeah hopefully one see's this thread lol
Hello, dear XDA citizens.
I had been a happy user of my HTC Desire since July 2010 when I bought it. Unfortunately, it recently started randomly losing signal, with the same ROM version I’ve been using for a while, so that means it’s time for an upgrade.
The problem I find with current options, it’s that there are no longer phones anywhere!!! More specifically, I can only see 5"+ phablets (don’t call them phones, please, at that size they no longer start being just that), which are really not what I want. I want something I can comfortably hold in one hand when vertical, that is, 4.3" minimum, 4.7" maximum... or at least that’s what I thought, until I heard of the LG G2 one-hand operations option. I’m not sure yet this option is available to AOSP or any ROM that might currently be developed for the phone, but it makes a whole difference for me, so much that it makes me skip my self-imposed maximum-screen-size ban. You’ve gotta hand it to LG, they understand exactly this predicament.
As for other features, I’d like it with LTE; my operator in Colombia says they support Band 4 - AWS, and 1900MHz for HSPA+. I’ve been away quite a while, so I’m no longer savvy, but I’ve read some articles about LTE for my operator, and while they say AWS, they also say, for example, they acquired the 1700MHz/2100MHz spectrum, or that the Nokia Lumia 920 (model RM-820 only) works. Those are some details that perhaps can help you help me assert if my choice is right. Oh, 16GB or 32GB is alright for me. Never used more than 6GB myself.
Question is: do you know where can I buy one that fits those specifications? Please paste links that you trust and recommend. It doesn’t matter if I have to “import” it, since I have relatives living in United States which luckyly will come by new year’s eve, so hopefully I can just pay the phone itself and be done with it.
I think that’d be all.
Thanks again for your support!
My international D802 doesn't support band 4 as I read the box , see the attached photo.

Oh, man, I knew it.
Looks like I need a U.S.A. AT&T-compatible phone, which are the ones I see share the 1700/2100 frecuencies. Bummer. Question, for those in United States: can I buy an AT&T-bands-compatible phone without an actual plan? In Amazon looks like I can, but I want to be sure.
Thanks for the information!
PS: The company says something like:
HSPA+, 23/10/2011, Tigo commercially launched 4G service using HSPA+, with 4 Mbps average speed at 1900 Mhz band...

Since I would at least have HDSPA+, although it was implemented two years ago already, according to that, do you think I would still be able to squeeze the phone value two years from now at least? Thanks!
Hi Guys,
I just received my N910F, and I notice LTE does not display when it is connected to LTE signal. It displays 4G instead. That is fine with me, but the problem is I only get 1 bar whereas I get full bars with my 2 S4's. using the same sim cards (Starighttalk on AT&T) and same locations.
I tested WCDMA and GSM and the bars are full scale... only when I am on LTE I get just 1 bar...
Is there anyone else having the same problem???
Many thanks

I am experiencing the same issue. I would like to inform you that this is normal for all US carriers. All US carriers, including AT&T has programmed the RSSL cell tower computers to prioritize carrier-branded devices first before BYOD devices. Therefore, you will always experiencing weaker signals on BYOD/unlocked devices on any US carriers.

That's good to hear, at least I know it is not the phone being faulty. I have been fiddling with the phone since morning, master reset it three times, etc... but where did you get this info? Do you have a link ? Thanks
Here is a very long chat about Note 4's on the sprint network having the same problem as mine... I will update this thread as I find more.
https://community.sprint.com/baw/thread/177615?start=0&tstart=0
That's what AT&T Level 3 technician informed me of. I think this is just another method that carriers use to earn more money by forcing you to purchase phones from them.
Has anyone noticed their FI SIM roam when off of sprint and t-mobile coverage?
I have a Nexus 6, 6p and 5x. When my FI SIM is in the 6P and N6 and I'm in sprint mode/CDMA mode and there is no sprint coverage I have noticed that talk/text and 3g data work just fine on both the VZW and the US Cellular networks.
Also when in T-Mobile mode/ GSM mode and there is no T-Mobile coverage, both talk/text and LTE/HSPA/Edge data work just fine on AT&T. Also if on AT&T I actually have mobile data while on a phone call!!!??
But on my 5x I have no roaming at all doesn't matter what I do. It will not work at all on any network except Sprint and T-mobile.
All 3 of the phones have been tried on various ROMS and kernels and that don't seem to make a difference. Currently on Chroma/Franco on all 3.
I use FI Switch by @dwithereIl and Signal Check PRO to switch between CDMA and GSM mode and to know what provider I am currently on.
What has been you experience?

I have noticed the same. When there is absolutely no T-mo or Sprint coverage it will roam on ATT and US Cellular. This is super patchy however, seems like as soon as even the weakest Tmo/Sprint signal is detected it will latch on to that.
Overall I see a lot of switching between carriers which sometimes results in interruptions in service.

Sounds about right!! I do use this app a lot to assist with picking the carrier I most want to use. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cheekydevs.fiswitch
I use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mbmc.fiinfo because it lists your past connections in a nice easy to read list and only ever see Sprint and T-Mobile. To be fair though, most of the time I force the phone onto T-Mobile because Sprint is a pile a poo in my area.

That's what's so nice lol.. You pick.. I'm mostly working up and down a 100 mile stretch of interstate and T-Mobile only has 3 towers along the whole thing... Sprint has coverage on the whole stretch. So being able to pick and chose is great! Now with it roaming to the big red and the big yellow its really sweet!!
