Unable to connect - Wifi w/ certificate, IEEE8021X, PEAP, MSCHAP

I can't connect to my corporate wifi. The following process worked on my Kindle Fire, and dozens of phones of others in the office:
Add a new connection with hidden SSID
EAP = PEAP
Phase 2 = MSCHAP (not MSCHAPv2)
CA Certificate (got it, installed it, not expired)
domain\usr
pwd
Run WiFi Advanced Configuration Editor
Key Mgmt, uncheck WPA-EAP (IEEE8021X checked)
Enterprise Configuration, re-enter pwd.
Turn WiFi off, back on.
Ignore the SSID secured with WEP.
Done.
This process does not work on my 8GB Nexus 7. I've done the process enough times on my KF and other people's phones to know I'm not doing it differently on the N7. Yet, it doesn't connect. Ever. I sit right across from the AP. Also, I had someone else who's done this a dozen times before also try. No dice there either.
Any idea why I can't get connected?

Are you in a domain and running through a proxy server? If so try just joining the network normally using your domain\uname letting the cert install automatically then long holding the wifi connection modify connection check advanced then add the proxy settings, worked for me...

The SSID is hidden. I have to start by manually adding the network. Considering that I can't get to connect to that network at all, I'm not sure how to go about "joining the network normally." I'll try it without specifying/bringing my own certificate, and see if one is installed automagically. IIRC, iPad users don't have to manually copy the cert onto their tablet.

I'm having the same issue connecting a Nexus 7" on Jelly Bean to our wifi using a cert. I'm using the exact same settings I use on my Droid Razr Maxx (running ICS) and it connects no problem. If I figure it out I'll post up, but I have a feeling it's a Jelly Bean issue. On ICS when I install a cert it no longer shows in storage, however on Jelly Bean after installing it leaves the cert in storage. Not sure if maybe its not installing it completely, or if that's just how Jelly Bean will do it on all devices. Another thing I noticed is it strips the name of cert, whereas in ICS it leaves the cert name assigned. I'm going to mess around with it now.

This has been discussed and determined to be most likely a jelly bean issue.

Lame answers from Google and ASUS
I tried to get the corporate network connectivity issue resolved through support at Google and ASUS. Google's response was to ask my IT guys to, "use mac filtering on the router". ASUS's response was to reset the tablet, when that did not work, Russell on their support line said that, "the Android OS does NOT support 802.1x EAP on the Nexus 7". This seems like a deal-breaker for the Nexus 7, buyer beware.

[Q] Able to connect to many different WiFi Networks except school ones

Hello all.
I can connect my Nexus 10 to my home wifi (password protected), my girlfriend's home wifi (password protected), and the wifi at public places (I've only tried ones without passwords so far). My only problem is when using my University's Wifi. They have one that you use with an account and password, and one that is free (though you need to sign in using an email via a website. Kinda like hotels).
This is surprising to me because I have a Galaxy Nexus running the same OS (4.2.1) and it can connect just fine. When my N10 tries to connect, it says "connecting" for a second or two, and then it just says "Saved" but never "connected" and it never shows a wifi connected symbol at the top right.
I have read multiple posts about wifi problems from 4.2 but couldn't find any specifically buggy wifi problems like this. Have any of you heard of this or a solution to it? Any help would be appreciated!

Have you tried a reboot? Also check to see if your frequency band is set to auto under advanced wifi settings.
Gotta love university security and logins... they can't leave stuff simple

Oh yes. I have rebooted many times and tried using auto, as well as both frequency bands separately.

Yes I am. Stock on both my Gnex and N10.

I wonder if using a third party wireless manager would help. Search the PlayStore and try one or two. Before you do that, go into your normal WiFi settings and click "forget this network" on the university one.

I work at a University in the midlands and had the same/similar problem. It's to do with certificate revocation in Jellybean (and also the latest ios my colleague tells me). For example on my Nexus 10 I was able to see the network and obtain an ip address but the webpage where you login wouldn't redirect or load. I don't know what Uni you go to but we are advising people to give the IT dept a call and give them your mac address and they can create a fixed profile.

Well that's why I mentioned my gnexus because they're the same android versions so if it works on one it should on the N10. I actually work for tech support at my university and my boss couldn't figure it out or suggest a process like you described. Thanks, though!

Oh yeah you did mention your Galaxy Nexus, my bad! let us know how you get on with the third party app. You could try giving your N10 a static or reserved IP if you have access, as a workaround!

Make sure you have the EAP set correctly and check if you need a phase 2 authentication. For example, here at UofM we use PEAP for eap and mchapv2 for the phase 2. If you don't have details like these, your tablet won't connect even if you have the proper login.
You will find them at the top of the page you use to login to a secure network.

I had a similar issue with my One XL. It was a frequency issue. I switched it from 5ghz to auto and all was good.
Settings/WiFi/advanced/WiFi frequency band/auto.

Okay so I found out that my N10 is able to connect to the exact same WiFi network when in another building. I believe there is just an issue connecting to the specific router used at a computer lab. Will update when/if a resolution arises for that lab.

Nexus 4 Wifi Connection Issue

Just got the phone today (upgraded from a Sensation 4G).
This phone connects to my home WIFI fine.....and then once it sleeps for around 10 minutes and I wake it up, the wifi connection is gray (instead of blue) and I cannot access anything on the internet. I have to disable WIFI on the phone and re-enable it and it's fully functional again.
What's going on? Fully stock, 4.2.2
I do notice the IP it's pulling is a 172.27.35.x.....whereas my network is configured as 192.168.0.x
What's going on here???

When I manually enter in my network settings (rather than DHCP) and set it as a 192.168.0.x value......everything is fine.
What's going on where it's pulling these 172 values? Never had an issue like this. Thanks!!!

Have you unlocked the Developer Options yet? If not, goto Settings -> About Phone then tap build number 10 times to unlock. Enable "Stay Awake" in the Developer Options and connect your phone via your PC. Observe your wifi connection and get back to me
EDIT: How complicated is your home network? Are you using your router as a straight forward access point?

Running DDWRT.....very straightforward. Nothing complicated. I have Kindle Fire HD's......HTPCs.....etc running without an issue. All DHCP. This Nexus 4 is the only thing that has ever had issues.
The thing that I'm not understanding.......why is it being thrown a 172 IP address unless I turn DHCP off on the phone? Cuz as soon as I set it static (to a 192) it works fine.

Hmm DD-WRT, I'm going to hazard at a guess and say you know what you're doing when it comes to networking so I won't insult your intelligence or anything. But, if you're willing, try playing around with your router's DHCP setup before doing anything else and see how your phone goes by trial and error.
Come to think of it, unless anyone on these forums has experienced this before, trial and error is the best way of understanding. My best guess is the issue resides within the code of 4.2.2 FW. Hypothetically and possibly inadvertantly it has already been debugged for use on a custom rom. Some of the apk's found on the app store may shed some light onto the issue. WIFI Fixer apk may be help

i too have an issue on my newly bought nexus 4, every device connected to our router except the n4 is working fine. tried flashing a kernel and the problem still persists.

Right, so surely it is an issue with the phone, which firmware are you using Roi? If it's 4.2.2, nandroid backup then flash a custom rom of your choice and see what happens with your wifi issue

hey bludred. I have stock, unlocked and rooted 4.2.2 running Franco's r111. I seem to connect to the Wi-Fi but the connection drop still persists.

If you are receiving IP address that's not defined by your router then you are getting it from somewhere else.

Do you have your "keep wifi on during sleep" setting at always? If you've already eliminated that as the issue, try wiping the delvik cache in CWM. I had a similar problem once when I used CM9.1, wiping delvik cache solved it.
If there's no joy, copy and post up a logcat or consider a custom rom like aokp 4.2.2 build 4 :good:

[Q] VPN issues

I am using a g900t with the AICP ROM 7.0 release and I am having some issues with VPN. I purchased VPN access from StrongVPN (If you know of a better provider please tell me who and why). I added my VPN credentials to the built VPN section of the ROM and it connects but randomly quits after awhile. I tried setting up the Always On VPN option but when it connects i have no internet access?
I am new to VPNs just trying to get something fast and reliable set up but feel i am stumbling around like a fool. Any help?

hi, I just got a Galaxy note 4, I can connect to wifi everwhere but not at work. I get error that password is incorrect, I have the same password so I know my password. My stepson has a galaxy s5 and has no problem connection. I actually just returned my first phone after trying 5 days to get it connect at work. Both Comcast box and firewall have been reset. So I am not sure where to go stepson suggest change to developer operating system. I have tried safe mode, soft reset and factory reset to no luck.
This is last resort - before I return and get a different brand/model phone

if you can connect everywhere except work its your work problem. some workplaces use cisco and proprietary protocols to login to wifi after connection. if your workplace does that you will not be able to connect. no phone will. ask your work wifi to use WPA2 with AES instead of some proprietary protocol for wifi. if your son has installed some non standard rom to get his s5 to connect you will need to buy an s5 and do the same.

It is very likely that your work uses wifi protected setup. You need access to router or access point to finish setup. Ask your IT guys to help you. It needs to be done once only.

Response from my IT guys - -they are very helpful since this is a personal phone and not company issued.
I don't have a good reason for this one device to have a problem connecting to this one network. I believe we have eliminated common errors such as mistyped or incorrect password, since you have personally been able to connect other devices without issue. This also eliminates the possibility of a 1-time setup or authorization requirement, as you did not need that for the other devices. I will need to look into whether there could be a technological incompatibility between the two devices.
We will look into this further and have to get back to you.

We have a WPA2. We have people come visit all the time and have them connect.
I am just wondering in there is something in this phone operating system that is more technological updated than the systems we are using and could be the problem

I still would try to use Wifi Protected Setup. It is software depended and Note 4 is capable of using WPS while many others not. It is possible that software in Note 4 sensing that access point has that feature and requesting it. Im not network specialist but I setup few laptops for my friends. They were using Dell Vostro laptops and by default they required using WPS to connect to home network. Once that feature was disabled they connected with no problem using user password.

not possible since i have connected to both WPA2-PSK AES and WPA2-EAP AES systems. EAP requires a username/password instead of just a password.
the only system i have not been able to connect to is a WPA-CKIP and WPA2-CKIP which is a cisco proprietary protocol.

Hi all,
My Phone has connected to the company wifi. I was searching for an infinity hot spot since I am an infinity customer and was scanning and then I am connected to the company wifi. Then it began to do all these updates and I did nothing to prompt this. (weird since it can connect at home and this did not happen) I have been in contact with Samsung and have been explaining my issue - part of their process is you need to enter model and serial number- is it possible for them to track my phone - I am wondering as when I have called HP for service they can find my laptop. Very weird, but I am happy, Hopefully it will continue to work like this and I can begin to use this phone to its full potential.

yes samsung and google can both track your phone.
