How to upgrade just the bootloader of a phone?
There is no official 3.4 kernel for RAZR M XT905 (Australian), so i tried to flash fxz of XT907 (.15 version)
I flashed all the files except system, modem and partition. Then I installed KKBL TWRP and it did worked. But it was not letting me install the new KKBL ROMS due to different value return in ro.secure.hardware, so I had to remove this line from updater-script.
The new rom installed and booted, but what showing System UI has stopped working constantly, this was solved by updating the modem as well. But the XT907 modem doesnot supports XT905 properly (very low signal strength, no network registration).
I hit the wall there, anyone else knows the proper way to achieve this? Can we mod the modem or firmware? Or can the Lollipop firmware be compiled for old kernel.? Are sbl1,sbl2,sbl3 only necessary bootloader files. What is the function of other files.
P.S Now BlissPop i sshowing Setup Wizard has stopped working. Any way out?
Well i just installed BlissPop nightly for JBBL and it is working
Yes, the bootloader has to be compatible with the modem and that's why you won't be able to use a JB modem with a KK bootloader in most cases.
But the KitKat rollout for the Aussie XT925 (Razr HD) has just started this week (it's 180.46.127) and since both phones' software is very similar, I guess KitKat for XT905 is just around the corner.

Yesterday I've tried to switch ROMs from Cyanogenmod nightly (camera was crashing) to AOSP 4.4.2. AOSP ROM had some problem with CWM 6.0.4.7 (Status 7 error) and when I reverted to Cyanogenmod I had no gsm service. Flashing modem from newest samsung firmware available resulted in working GSM, but I've lost all sound!.
Then I've found out that for older bootloaders I should flash other modem file and I've managed to get sound to work. Now I'm back on Cyanogenmod 11 Nightly and suprisingly, camera works! I suspect that newer modem file I've flashed with Odin fixed camera/cyanogenmod problems.
My first question is:
Should I try to find newest knox-free bootloader and update to it? Is it possible that new ROMs will be working better with newer bootloader?
If so, can you point me to the latest knox-free bootloader?
Second question:
My is taken from firmware for "Open Europe". Since I live in Poland, will I benefit in any way from switching to XEO modem (firmware for Poland)?
Hi Guys. I recently sold my HTC One M7 for an LG G2 and never looked back, so I'm hoping some of you guys/gals could help ease the transition. I got this phone already rooted and since then have installed the latest build of CM12 Lollipop. I want to flash a new kernel but have read that certain kernels have to have certain modems and/or bootloaders. So my questions are :
How do I find out which bootloader i'm running
Which modem should I be running with CM12
Which bootloader do I need
To fill in the rest of the blanks, I'm running an AT&T D800 and would like to flash the Render Kernel onto CM12 Lollipop. I'm also currently running a KK Modem, is this correct? Lastly, I do not know the method the original owner used to root. Thanks in advance!!
i need to unlock lte 1800 band (as available in xt905), so i need modded xt905 Aussie NON-HLOS to flash on my xt907 (cm11 kk bootloader)
can any one please share it... existing dropbox and google drive links are not working...
I wouldn't try this as it will brick the phone. Reason: different Trustzone signatures. There are / were peoples attempting to flash different NON-HLOS modem BIOS for the particular RAZR M (for example, XT907 NON-HLOS onto XT901. The result is pretty obvious: dead as a doornail). I am researching on RAZR M unbricking and I can pretty much tell you mucking around with the BIOS (bootloader) is a big NO-NO.
I guess you can flash the complete XT905 firmware on the XT907. It did work for me and even the modem does work for GSM (no idea about LTE or CDMA though). It's just, that there is still no KitKat available, so a CM jbbl version would be needed.
I suppose you can - just have to have some confirmation so you can be sure you won't brick the phone you spent the hard-earned money on.

thanks alot,
is this the version that i should flash? and since im currently running cm 11 on kitkatbootloader does it support downgrade to this stock?
9.8.2Q_SMUIRD-7_SEMEAUnlk_USAXT90501TLSTRAE1019.0R_SMJBLTEAURETAIL_P008_A014_1FF_fb.xml
I don't know about the version number. I was on the first VZW KitKat (*.10) and flashed the latest available Aussie firmware which still is 98.21.7 (Build 9.8.2Q_SMUIRD-7) dated Jan 9, 2013.
As long as you have an unlocked bootloader, you can downgrade to JB. There are just some lines in the XML that have to be removed (GPT, TZ, and maybe something else if it fails - the usual procedure for downgrading).
Here are the official CM11 builds for JB bootloader, most likely there won't be any for CM12.
Edit: I was wrong about CM12 for JBBL. Obviously there will be builds for this older bootloader too.
Hello all, I was hoping someone could clear up a few things regarding the transition to LP sources on some of the custom roms. While it doesn't matter atm, I am currently on cloudystock 2.5 with a D800 and have been eagerly following the development of 5.1 roms (especially Bliss and RR). I belive I am still on the JB bootloader and using KK baseband on android 4.4.2 with blastgator's twrp 2.8.6.1. The new roms now require the flashing of the device's corresponding Lollipop bootstack in order to make everything work correctly. I have downloaded this from the bliss link in that thread in preparation for switching roms.
I understand that the bootloader and modem are replaced by flashing this bootstack with the newest ones for my D800. Is there anything else that this file flashes that I need to know about? (I'm seeing a list of aboot, dbi, laf, modem, persist, rpm, sbl1, and tz image files inside the zip).
According to this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-g2/development/bootloader-flash-jb-kk-bootloader-t2965755 the JB bootloader supports loki'd and bump'd roms while the KK bootloader only supports bump. He even states that the LP bootloader is not exploitable. Is the LP bootloader in the bootstack zip also bump'd? Or is it at least a modified one? Will I still retain the ability to flash roms to my heart's content with the new LP bootloader? Though even I think it's silly to question the advice of literally every dev on this forum of installing this bootstack, I've yet to find any documentation surrounding it.
As i understand it whats happening is the old kitkat bootloader is being flashed with parts of the lollipop updates. Thus giving us a bootloader that can use the bump exploit but also the updated partitions list and modem for lollipop. For the d802 people are flashing one update that uses the latest kitkat bootloader along with the lollipop parts required with no user intervention required.

Ty for the advice...
Hi,
I'm currently having a problem with m N910G Note 4. The baseband version is Unknown. This happened after flashing Norma N7 V12 and different bootloaders and modems for Marshmallow (can't find the G1 BL recommended for the ROM). I had a backup for my Lollipop rooted stock ROM, except data. It has Modem and EFS backed up as well so I restored all.
However, I'm stuck with my phone freezing and rebooting (mainly due to baseband issue). I tried loading different bootloaders and modems available for N910G Lollipop but to no avail.
If anyone knows where I can get the COI1 BL and CP, that'd be great so I can still use my backed up ROM. Else, I might have to stick with upgrading to Marshmallow (since that's the only available free firmware on Sammobile). I'm avoiding upgrading the firmware though due to eMMC issues that mostly occured on Marshmallow.
Thanks,
Vin
Flashed RR 6.0.0 Android 8.1. ROM recognizes the bootloader and modem so no more rebooting. I guess the TouchWiz ROM has to match with the bootloader and modem; else it'd keep on rebooting. I'd have to find the bootloader and modem for Norma N7 though, so I hope someone could still reply here. Thanks a lot XDA peeps!
