8 hrs of Screen On Time On Nexus 6 - Nexus 6 General

Get 8 hours+ of Screen On Time  :good:

Enjoy !!

Haha! I would PAY for 8 hours of screen on time. Just not possible with this phone though.

Thanks for the video, but I think users need to realize you will never get the same amount of SOT as others do. We all use our phones differently with different setups and better or worse cell service quality. It is hard to compare SOT user to user.

lol, first xda post, of course..

Thanks for the effort but as others have said SOT varies on usage.

Stupid post.

Oppo Find 5 vs Nexus 5

I have the Oppo Find 5 (since int'l launch), just got my Nexus 5 as well
One major difference is the battery life
(If you search for battery life reviews of Nexus 5 online, people say it's a mixed bag: great idle battery life, so-so battery life when screen-on)
I agree with the above statement: my Nexus 5 is sipping battery when idle, find5 doesn't. still have to use it a little more to see screen-on usage
display wise, hard to tell in a normal room. Both are using a JDI-manufactured panel, same good viewing angles, looks great to me... some people complains about N5 being a little worse, i don't really see much difference
EDIT: at extreme angles, like almost completely eye-level, nexus 5 washes out... but it's definitely not noticeable unless you hold it at like 5 degrees... the Xperia Z that I've seen washes out way before (like 50 degrees)
EDIT2: oppo find5's display is definitely superior... but the nexus 5 doesn't distract me unless I put it on full brightness and look at it at a diagonal angleLMK other questions you have.. I'm still testing the nexus 5 for now, probably will sell my find 5
Try codefirex rom for the find 5 with the new kernel, youll be amazed with the battery life. For me enough reason not to switch to the nexus 5, besides camera and speaker which are better on the find 5. So my question is: why would you switch? The additional 10% performane?

I'm in the same position as you, paperWastage. Got my Find 5 in June and bought the Nexus 5 on the first day because I was too curious about it. Now I have two perfectly fine phones, and I can't decide which one to keep. My Find 5 never gave me any trouble, and with Maxwen's AOKP based ROM running it's a pleasure to use. The Nexus 5 on the other hand is much less heavy, and while it's a really nice phone as well I can't find a killer feature that makes me want to switch instantly.
So for now I'm using two phones - the Find 5 as my main phone, and the Nexus 5 for casual reading, navigation and geocaching. I hope I will have made by mind up during the next weeks about which phone has to go ...

I have been using maxwen's kernel (Undervolt + underclock)+ AOKP... still can't get decent idle battery usage
-overnight, 8 hours with the same settings (sync on with data, no wifi), nexus 5 dropped less than 4%. oppo find 5 will drop more than 12%
I don't really like the camera performance on the find 5. speaker, both are good enough for now
and my oppo find 5 is only 16GB (only 16GB available during launch), got a 32GB nexus 5
one major reason for me getting oppo find 5 was that I can use it on AT&T on medianet/without data. Now, I've switched to t-mobile, so I have more choices
let me try codefirex....
tl;dr
reason why I'm leaning towards nexus 5, that the find5 is lacking
better battery life technologies (snapdragon 800, power envelope, GRAM)
better dev community, which would lead to more stable releases
Does cfxe have the theme engine now? That was one of the things that turned me off. It was a little too aosp for me.

It has the theme engine, as for dev community i think you're more than right but I wouldnt dare saying the find 5 devs are just average. I'm curious, when using the n5 normally (wifi on, 3g etc) how many screen on hours do you get out of it?

haven't had it enough to estimate screen-on hours (other people say 4-7 hours?)
but a major difference to me is definitely idle life. the find5 sucks too much power during idle during the work day, so I only get 2 hours screen-on(+6-12 hours idle) before needing to charge
I'm talking about more nexus5 devs than find5 devs... you just get more choices (of ROMs, kernels) at the end of the process
I thought about changing after seeing the lack of dev support for the find5 and seeing how much the n4 got, but with the great work being done by maxwen/omni team/cfxc It's proving to be a great phone, but if they moved on, I guess I'd move on too.
played around enough to get an estimate about battery life
for screen-on, I feel the nexus 5 is roughly the same / slightly better... 300-700 mAh current draw (18-30%/hour) when browsing... so 3-5 hours screen-on for my usage, which is similar to the range I can get on the find 5. (some people can get 6-7 hours.. I assume they don't stress/demand the CPU as much as I do, keeping it around 200-300mAh, which would last 7 hours (300mAh * 7 = 2100~ battery size) <- If I just do plain video watching on nexus 5 at brightness level 2-3 out of 10, I use around 200-300mAh
the nexus 5 just outshines the find 5 for idle battery usage.
(each bulletpoint = independent data point about my usage after charging to 100%). GPS off, only using AGPS, brightness at 20%, sync on (4 gmail accounts) with data @ HSPA/+, NO wifi usage, google now running (but disable the hotword detection
10 hours since 100% charged, 45 minute screen on (~30 minutes browsing, 15 minutes watching video), I'm at 80% battery left.
30 hours since 100% charged, 2 hours screen on (~80% browsing, 20% videos/games/other), I'm at 30% battery. 10 of the 30 hours = me asleep, but still syncing on mobile data getting email updates
nexus 5: I predict I can go 24 hours with 3 hours screen-on time before hitting 0% with my usage patterns
not possible on the find 5.

The nexus 5 has that great soft touch. But the find 5 is amazingly built, unique design IMHO, and the speaker is the loudest I've ever heard. With viper4android of course lol.

Great phone

So I just picked up a Nexus 6 and so far I am loving it.. But what bothers me is looking at all the negative stuff people are saying about it. Battery life, size, stuttering/ lag and so on. As of this message I have 2:10 screen on time with 56% battery left since I took it off the charger around 3 this morning..Clean ROM and Faux kernel is my setup. Coming from an M8 this is acceptable.. Front speakers are loud and clear.. Lag?? What lag.. In my eyes this phone is damn near perfect.. Does anybody feel the same way?
The only time I experience lag is with battery saver mode (obviously) and sometimes when I plug the phone in when the battery is at around 20% or less. The phone is extremely fast for me, and I love it so far. I normally get at least 3 hours of screen time, and it can last me 2 full days. One time I turned battery saver on when I had about 70% battery, and it lasted 5 hours of screen time. That was with me using GPS and data like crazy to get around New York (visited my bro in NY). I've compared the screen and speakers to a friends M8 and he likes my screen more. My speakers go louder but his are a bit clearer. The camera is amazing, especially with HDR!
I am with you. I am happy with size, performance, and battery. Awesome phone, in my opinion. Not sure how it could be better.
I think its a great phone also... Completely stock, no root... I can easily get 2 days on 1 charge and over 2 hours on screen time. Real world performance is more important to me then how long the screen is on....

Some say they get stutter on unlock and recents on custom kernels.
No complaints here, love it and happy with the size. No issues thus far from my usage.
This IS a big phone. I thought the Note 3 was big when I had it but this one takes the cake..lol
I need to try stock for a while. The first thing I did was start flashing custom stuff. Didn't even give ole google a chance.

I'd say that depends on the kernel. Lean and Franco never get me any stutter on unlock, personally.

I'm on leankernel and it stutters every unlock, no issue with recent though.
I think the battery life is awesome on this phone. Currently at 75% after 12 hrs off charge & 1.5 hrs on screen. Usually, by the time I put it back on charge at 11pm, I'm at about 25% & 5.5-6hrs on screen. Can't complain about that.

That's my main issue on every custom kernel I've tried. They can be smoother than stock kernel in other areas, but all exhibit that damn unlock stutter.

No, I'm using cm12 & elementalx. But there's no real difference from stock for me as far as battery. I ran it bone stock for 3 weeks.
I've had the phone for almost 2 weeks now and am very happy with the performance of the phone. The phone is large and takes getting used to, but now every other phone seems like a toy compared to the nexus 6. I'm rooted on stock 5.0.1. Battery life is 4-5 on screen time, around 15-17 hours off the charger. Coming from a s4, camera is a big let down and that's about the only gripe I have with the Nexus 6. Overall still the best phone I've had in terms of the Android experience. Looking forward to future updates.
Coming from the Verizon Note 3 all I miss is the camera. The screen is not as good as the Note 4 but its not bad either. This is my first nexus device. The big screen and stock Android is what made me choose this device over the Note 4. I haven't encountered any issues. Loving the phone and all the Roms available. Its a flashaholics dream ☺
Quick question... OK.. This is my first Nexus device but I've been around since the froyo days with my Vibrant but I'm confused with the ROM choices... Aosp based and stock lollipop.. I thought stock android was Aosp. Just got the phone Monday so I really haven't had time to try out all the Roms seeing that is so many to choose from.
I'm happy with mine too. I was unsure about stepping up to a phone this large, but I've come to love the larger screen. I fractured my left wrist in October and even with the Nexus 5 certain operations proved difficult to complete one handed when it becomes mandatory. I knew going in this would be a two handed phone and I've adapted just fine. My only real complaint is ambient display needs work. I really like the concept, but after the first day I managed to place calls, perform searches and open web sites all without taking it out of my pocket. I don't particularly care for the placement of the buttons and the gradually increasing volume is a bit annoying. Battery life has been better than my Nexus 5 and worlds ahead of my 4. I love the speakers. The more serious complaints I've read I haven't personally experienced.
Best phone I've owned hands down.

[Video]Review of the OnePlus One in 2016!- Is it still worth it?

Hello Everyone! I have had my OnePlus One since the past 14 months. While I shifted to the Galaxy S6 last year, I still keep tinkering with the OnePlus One time and again. Recently, I started using it as my daily driver with the Darkabos Marshmallow ROM and I was thoroughly impressed by how great this device still performs, two years after its release. The battery life is still better than my S6 and on this ROM, I get close to around 5.5-6hrs of SoT with heavy usage. So here's my video taking a look at this amazing device 2 years after it was launched. Do let me know what do you think about the OPO and whether you are still using it as your primary device. Thanks
I've used the OPO for around one year, replacing my HTC One M7. My love for this phone has grown over the months. I'm also using Darkobas, and get at least 8 hours SOT per full charge. Sometimes going up to 10 hours. Still continues to run smoothly and meets my daily needs

Poor battery life - just the phone, or something else?

Hello,
My Nexus 6P, albeit a great phone, is starting to get a little slow and the battery life has suffered. My memory usage isn't high, around 2GB. I close all apps after using them. I haven't even used close to half of my 64GB storage.
I am a very heavy phone user, and I am having to recharge my 6P more than once every day. I cannot sustainably use max screen brightness as it drains the battery too quickly, a shame because maximum brightness on this phone is so beautiful!
From some testing, it is taking 2 minutes and 3 seconds to drop 1% in battery life at maximum screen brightness while watching YouTube. Round to two minutes, multiply by 100, and that gives you 200 minutes. 3 hours and 20 minutes.. that is silly, plus the battery drops off faster as the percentage decreases (I tested at 94%).
Realistically, I can get 2.5-3 hours on this phone at maximum brightness - is there something wrong, or is this just the phone? While writing this post in 5 minutes, I dropped another 3%...
It should be pretty obvious that a 2k screen at maximum (!) brightness can drain the battery faster.

Yes, but Techradar's test of a 90 minute video with adaptive brightness OFF (like me) takes battery down to 75%. That's 25% down in 1.5 hours, meaning the battery life of their test model would be 6 hours video playback, more than double what I get.
What gives?
Lower the brightness.

You're taking 1 instance of a test and multiplying it as it the variables within that instance will remain the same. Batteries drain faster the more they are used in an instance because of the heat. This type of test can be done with a flashlight. Turn it on for an extended period of time and then turn it off for a few seconds. Turn it on again and the brightness will be at max (for the batteries' capacity at the time), after about 5 seconds, the light will dim suddenly.
Same thing happens in phones. Manage your brightness.

So essentially, this is just the battery life of the 6P?
Seems a little weird to give a phone such a beautiful display but we are unable to use it to its full extent because it won't last.

I can't say that, but I can say there's no device that we can expect to just use that way. All devices (even outside of smartphones) are like that. If it runs on a battery expect not to be able to use it to its full capabilities for an extended period of time.
Cars are the same way. If you run it at max speed all the time (if there were no laws), you'll run out of gas extremely quickly, compared to 65mph. Same concept applies here. It sucks but that's the way it is.

The battery of this phone is poor, no doubt in that. However what I found is that my previous phone (which I had to RMA) lasted much longer than the current one. Around 1-1.5-2(barely)hr more SOT. Don't know how this could happen.
Yeah, 6P is not what I expected it to be.

Not saying you are wrong, but I feel like some say that about every phone. I will have to wait and see when mine gets here.
When the Note 5 came out there were so many people saying how terrible it was with battery life. Almost turned me away from getting it. Finally decided to take the plunge and guess what? It's pretty much the same as all the other phones I have had. The phone don't suck, our usage changes based on the device we have. I use my Note 5 more than I did my Note 4, battery still lasts me all day but needs to be charged about an hour after I get home. Note 4 made it until bedtime but I had a company phone to use all day.
I'm hoping the 6P can handle me all day. No pen to use so it should be fine.

I don't get why you're getting the 6P if you already have the Note 5. Like having two or more phones uh?
I got the 6P in place of the Note 5. I had a Note 4 before (it was defective I believe), it had terrible battery life (very rarely 4.5 to 5 hours SOT) and heats up to 75C very easily. Sure the 6P is cheaper, but I could've gotten the Note 5 if I wanted because this device is going to be there for at least 2 years. The thought of I can't bear anymore of TouchWiz was the only reason I got 6P. I thought the Note 5 would heat similarly and that 6P was better overall. But now I think I'm wrong, the Note 5 is a slightly better phone.
My 6P heats way too much (though not as much as my Note 4 did). Battery not upto expectation. Inconsistent camera (exposure problems). Throttling issues.

I actually don't mind touchwiz especially now that they have trimmed most of the fat and you can theme it now. Sad I'll miss out on AOSP/CM on it but I guess that's what the Nexus line is for. As far as the 6P being worse than the Note 5, I think it's based on usage patterns. The Note 5 has it's own slew of issues, radio especially for me, it does tend to heat up but not as bad as some other phones. Slippery as hell OMG!!! And that all glass thing is just absolutely nightmarish! It is still a fantastic device though and I will miss it greatly.
I'm getting it because of Project Fi. It will be cheaper for my wife and I compared to what we pay now for T-Mobile. We will be saving just over $60. That's date night once a month right there, Lol. I am actually getting rid of my Note 5, and unfortunately earlier today I dropped it on the road without a case on!!!!!!!!!!!:crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:

Maaan.. You could've just used a case! :
You do know that the 6P bends very easily without a case right (I got to know after I bought the device).
So you're getting the 6P as a replacement to your Note 5? I don't get why I see many people using the 6P after the Note 5. Is the 6P actually better?
Do let me know about your thoughts when you get your phone.
I've found that since a security patch update around February that my phones battery drops so much quicker. I used to be able to get 5 hours sot. I've seen a few people post on this issue and with it being a software issue I'm becoming extremely frustrated with android. I'm ashamed to say I'm considering selling the 6p and getting an Iphone

Sometimes I go bare with it because I'm always "careful" lol. I plan on having a case for the 6P for sure. I'll probably go bare off and on once I get used to the device and become comfortable.

I'm also a power user and I have to say I've gotten 8 hours SOT. When I got this phone I used the daylights out of it. Email social media, YouTube, web and couldn't kill this thing. I agree low light pics aren't good but I do like the camera otherwise. I would have liked to have seen the price around $500 seeing how great the Axon 7 is at $400.

Could you please tell me about the camera lens? I mean to ask about the tiny scratches on the camera lens after usage of a week or two, these scratches are only visible under the light when camera lens is facing the light source. please update about it.
WHY?!
Help me. I am almost sure that my battery drains so much after update to B138 and not physical battery defect. Please convince me. Am I right?

I'm also a power user and I have to say I've gotten 8 hours SOT. When I got this phone I used the daylights out of it. Email social media, YouTube, web and couldn't kill this thing. I agree low light pics aren't good but I do like the camera otherwise. I would have liked to have seen the price around $500 seeing how great the Axon 7 is at $400.

HI,
Im struggling to understand how one is able to attain a SOT of even more than 4 hours. Could the signal strength be a factor for SOT?
I dont have bluetooth turned on nor wifi with automatic screen brightness, i barely get passed 3 hours. Heck, i dont even have the facebook app on the phone.
Please enlighten me on how you have managed to get an SOT of 8 hours. Thanks!:cyclops:
Other than the lock screen issue, the other two are just nitpicking, in my opinion.

When I play a movie either on facebook or youtube and receive a phonecall, I can hear very loud in the headset at the same time the caller and the movie sound. It also happens with google maps. Does any of you have this issue?
was hoping this device would drop to 500. I just can't justify 600 for a huawei.

It was and will be again
Great video, disagree entirely with battery. This is the first phone EVER, that I do not have to charge before bedtime. Real life use. Everything else including the Samsungs will need a charge early evening at least. This one, never.
I agree about the screen... I'd have liked 2k.

That is so true even in my case. I use my phone like usual and I get 3-4 hours of SOT. Last night I went to bed, it was on 16%, so I put it on charge.
I am surprised when people around me talk about 6-7 hours of SOT. Makes me wonder, if my battery is bad, or perhaps I need to reset my phone and start again.
By the way, this is within a week of buying the mobile. I never saw more than 4 hours before last night.
I must say battery life is great . I am a heavy user too n I do not disable any stuffs except GPS ( enabled it only when needed). My MINIMUM SOT is consistently 9 hours . With greater usage of wi-fi 10-11 hours. Is quite similar to my other mi mix with higher capacity battery. These are similar SOT with Mate7, Mate8.
As comparison these are other SOT on my other phones I had used : s7e 6-7, one plus 3t 5-6, V20 5-6, iPhone 7+ usage 11-12

Camera at low light could improve further, it have some software issues.
If noticed that when battery low, the phone throttles graphics and cpu performance, i hope it will be resolved.
Also typing with swiftkey doesn't feel smooth as with my s7e, it has some delays, sometimes though it works fine.
