[Q] Asus Player Gamepad on PC? - Nexus Player Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey
Got a Asus Gamepad of the Nexus and I'm trying to connect to my PC. I honestly like the feel more then my Xbox Controllers and would prefer to have it for my PC. Anyone managed to get it working on PC?

Sorry to say I didn't. The biggest problem is try putting "Asus Gamepad" into Google. There really isn't much noise about it. I think I'm going to try and sideload Limewire and try that but that really is just a work around. Win8 does pick it up but it's all weird. It might be Walmart brand PoS bluetooth USB doungle but I've got to work for PS4 controllers. *shurg*

Just wanted to chime in on this. I tried as well, pairing to a NUC running windows 10 and a generic POS broadcom controller. Windoze will let me pair the device and sees it's connected, but under gamepad settings it doesn't have anything populated for calibration, and no programs I've tried have detected it as a gamepad. I'll keep plugging away at it...there's gotta be some way to make this work with PC.

I don't have the gamepad but when you pair it to windows PC how does it show up in device manager? In device manager can you go into the device and get the deviceID? Maybe there is an Asus bluetooth PC gamepad that we can modify the inf and use that driver?

try out inputmapper, i use it with my DS4. Maybe it will help.

Im trying to connect my gamepad to my windows 8.1 pc but its asking for a bluetooth pair passcode.. i phoned asus if they now what the passcode is as it isnt the default 0000 has anyone here got a workaround for this?

Just leave it blank and hit next... But expect to be disappointed two minutes after. I haven't found a way to calibrate it either.

I am trying now

Solution
Hello guys!
I was also looking for any existing solution to use Nexus Player's Gamepad with my PC.
You can pair it with your Windows, but no any program would accept it as a gamepad.
So, I wrote the program that uses Nexus Plater's Gamepad to simulate XBox controller.
I will open the sources soon.
Now I'm able to play Super Meat Boy using my Nexus Player Gamepad!
Here is the instruction:
1) Download & install Microsoft XBox Controller drivers (remove all spaces in the link) - http : // www .microsoft. com/hardware/en-us/d/xbox-360-controller-for-windows
2) Download attached Virtual Bus Driver (this is used to create & simulate XBox controllers) - View attachment VirtualBusDriver.zip
3) Finally - download & unzip my program - View attachment NexusGamepad2PC.zip
4) Turn on your Nexus Gamepad & pair it with Windows
5) Run NexusGamepad2PC - it will create virtual XBox controller and will translate all gamepad actions to it, so the games would be able to use this virtual XBox controller.
6) PROFIT!
Have fun!

How about the joysticks? Does your software recognize the Nexus Gamepad joysticks and allow them to be operable within Windows? I haven;t tried out your software yet, and I willl soon, but the main issue I've had so far with pairing it with my PC has been getting the pc to recognize the gamepad joysticks' as directional input. All I've been able to use has been the D-pad and all other buttons/triggers so far. Hopefully your software will fix this problem.

Hi!
My application will simulate fully-functional XBox gamepad. Nexus Gamepad has all the same buttons as XBox gamepad, so it'll work as intended.

I know this program and it is really nice. A wireless webcam for ......
..... ok not freee but not such expensive. and it works fine after you have reached to set it up.
But great walkthrough...
gThx
yeah, I have tried this program ... and its kind of pointless ...
unless you have a hot girl taking a shower or changing at your apartment and you leave it in there in a corner..... besides that, its kind of pointless! hahahah
ahh but if you launch a vpn connection, then you can follow your phone anywhere.. e.g you let your girl borrow you phone or if you left it somewhere, you can "see" where you left it.
Yeah, it'll probably be at the bottom of her purse while she's getting it from some dude. \
But if you wanted to spy on someone, you should check out flexspy or something like that.
haha i dont know about all that spying but i used it because i dont have a Webcam for Windows Vista HAHAH
when you have an exgirlfriend like mine ... you need such as this ... including but not limited to GPS ankle bracelets, a contact in the CIA, FBI, NSA or any of these so you can track her with satellite..... etc...

And since then they are useing their phones
they are pleased with it really.. and i too dont have a webcam but i do have a Herald and im gonna use this program instead of my own pre-made program.
but oh well.. im not that much on MSN tho.. so....
But anyway.. Nice Program.. Keep up the good work..
Oh and BTW duprade.. i kinda regonize you from something.. did you were on the BBC one time..?

HTC Polaris
Hi there,
Thank you for this software. I just tried it on to my Polaris, and my screen stays black, whatever I tried or change in the panel menu...
Seems it doesn't work onto Polaris ? Or I maybe missed something ? (A bit difficult to fix it during the very short trial period)
How does it work with Vista?
Vista doesn't support activesync anymore (built in). On my Herald I have the program running and on my laptop the program is searching for a connection. My Herald is connected through USB.
Can anybody help me with this? Are there some preferences yet to choose?
No go on Polaris
My Polaris does not show anything either, it does not initiate any of the sources. Any ideas? Thank you.
Hello there! quick question here:
I have 2 ppc here (my old wizard and a hermes). I know that there is programs that makes your ppc turn into a webcam, but in case I want to go further in the spy (or whatever) thing... and want to broadcast the images made from the cam of one ppc (for exemple the wizard) into the other (the hermes). Is there such "webcam viewer" for ppc?
I used something similar to this at one point, maybe this exact thing. Its really nice and useful =]
video calling
Does anyone know how to use this program or any other one to enable video calling on PPC cell phones like on my Sprint HTC Mogul?
I put the trial version of this program on my Sprint HTC Mogul and it work well for webcam. The program also says it can turn phone into a microphone too. But I can't get any sound to transfer to the computer. I checked out all the setting in my computer and on my phone. The webcam program does not have any settings for sound other than checking the sound option under: Menu-->Source. Does anyone know what to do here to get my Mogul to send sound to my computer using this program? Thanks.

Using my phone as a wireless keyboard and mouse?

Hey all, I thought of buying this:
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/keyboards/keyboard/devices/3848&cl=gb,en
Then I got high and got the idea "Maybe someone could just turn a WM phone into this!"
I have the HTC wizard so the touch screen would be perfect for a touch pad and the keyboard for, well a keyboard. It could work over activesync connected via bluetooth and it would be awesome overall! Maybe media keys on the touch screen as well?
Has anyone done such a thing? If not, it would be amazing if someone did .
Cheers, Kyle.
+++
Wow, that would be awesome! I too have been looking at wireless keyboards and mouses since I have my computer hooked up to my TV. What a great idea to be able to use our phones to do that! Now, if only someone could make it happen.
BTW...I have never seen that logitech keyboard. I may look in to that.
yeah i looked around for software like that a while back and i remember coming across something. I'm pretty sure there is software like that for the iPhone, and something similar for the ppc. Don't remember what it was but what i do remember is it didn't work.
I believe there was a programs that turnes your PDA into a touch Pad, however it wasn't free...but I can't remember the name right now..
as for the wireless KB, there was another application that did the opposite, it took use of the PC keyboard, so you can type on your PDA while ActiveSync in on... I can't remember the name either , so there should be an app that will do it the other way around.
maybe someone else will help you more on this...
cheers

Most programs available seem to go in the opposite direction... controlling your PPC with your desktop keyboard / mouse.
But a search using Google does yield a few programs that have functionality you're looking for. Some are free, some are not. A couple probably do more than what you're looking for, similar to the Remote Desktop Connection already available in many ROM's. Here are a few you can look into.
Xronix Total Input
Salling Clicker
Remote Commander
PocketDrive
PPC Tablet Remote Control Suite
Enjoy!
Maybe this is what you are looking for. Its $16, but then again thats pretty cheap and how much is your time worth looking for a free replacement.

If only this worked with Windows Mobile 6.1 .
i got it to work on my kaiser.... and vista ultimate...
its okay, i do not like the button layouts for the remote...
not intuitive enough for me, and it looks like crap.
I might try and remap the buttons and make a new theme for it someday.
I like the functionality but really despise the implementation. Also i could not get the hard keyboard to actually work correctly (on screen of the VMC)
I agree. It definitely looks like crap. This could really be useful though for certain jobsites that I am required to bring a mouse and keyboard. It would really cut down on the bulk.
VNC is free...

Just a thought. If you main purpose is Home Theater PC (i.e. using that computer for playing video files) then you could consider the gyration remote. It's on clearance at Circuitcity right now for $36+tax.

Does a usb gamepad work in win8 tablet?

I have a Lenovo lynx win 8 tablet. I connect a usb gamepad. I see that it is recognized as usb generic gamepad (although in device manager I don't see a gamepad). The same gamepad work ok in nexus 7 tablet. Does anyone have a clue what is wrong? Perhaps I need some kind of drivers? In control panel I don't see "gamepad" or something like this, as I see in pc. Thanks,
It is this: http://www.e-shop.gr/product?id=PER.701667
Did your gamepad came with a driver CD? The gamepad should work with the tablet...after connecting the gamepad, open device manager & see if it shows any unrecognized devices

It didn't have a driver cd.. I go settings-change pc settings-devices , and when I connect it, it is recognized as" Generic usb joystick " without to have an option to change any settings or something..
If I go to control panel from desktop interface, I don't see any gamepad or joystick icon to click.. Is it the same for every tablet with win8 this or only mine?
Of course they work, your running full windows 8, its no different from your desktop or laptop if you have one. Even RT on the arm tablets has a degree of support for them (mainly the Xbox controller as 3rd party manufacturers aren't allowed to release drivers and windows itself has few drivers)
What make and model is the controller? It is most likely a driver issue or possibly user error (sure its not listed in with mice and keyboards on device manager).

I found out that every time I connecting it, in device manager, under human interface devices, it recognize it as usb input device... Probably I should change some drivers there? But haven't got anyone to try.. Perhaps any generic driver there for gamepad?

That means it has been recognised then. That should be the only entry.
Otherwise if its still not working in any games then you need to give us the make and model like I already asked. EDIT: Just noticed link in your post, hit google and can't find a single site not in Greek or any reference to that controller actually existing anywhere but Greek shops, certainly no info on drivers etc. If it doesn't work plug and play I think your best off getting a known brand controller (my personal preference is the wired Xbox 360 controller, play and charge kit for wireless controllers doesn't work btw, it has to be the wired one, Logitech also make a few popular models)
It is a cheap Chinese gamepad. It probably sell with different brand in many countries. The funny thing is that it is working perfectly in android without any driver (which I didn't expected, didn't bought for this), and is not working in the win tablet (for which was bought and expected to work)
Android does come with alot more drivers out of the box than windows does surprisingly, but at the same time its much harder install more.
Are you sure the gamepad doesn't work in any games because if its listed in device manager under HID's like it is then it should work. My 360 controller is only listed in HID's and in Xbox accessories (and of course your isn't an Xbox accessory).
Id go into a game and actually see does it recognise it.

I tried some. Also tried mame emulator. Can't set any key.. Is there any utility I can test to be sure? I remember in previous windows version, in control panel it had gamepad or something like this to test, change buttons etc. I don't see anything like this here.

You go into control panel>All items (sorry I dont know where it is on the new view, I always use the old style)>Devices And Printers. Should have a gamepad near the top, you right click it and it has "Game controller settings".
Something you can try for drivers is go back to device manager, find the gamepad, right click it and update driver software, see if windows just happens to find one online which matches.

[Q] Nook as a graphic tablet?

Is there an app which would change my NST into graphic tablet (mouse input for PC) using USB or Wifi?
I found some in google play (Slide Graphic Tablet, GfxTablet) but each one required at least android 4.0.
so, is there a way to do this on nook's rooted android 2.1 ?
thanks for the replies
When I have my Nook in USB host mode I can plug in my wireless mouse dongle.
(Of course this looks to the USB just like a wired mouse.)
The movements with the driver that's in my kernel just get translated to DPAD_RIGHT, etc chars.
I didn't try them, but maybe one of these will do the job:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=wsm.wifimousefree
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hungrybolo.remotemouseandroid
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.negusoft.ucontrol
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobilemouse.free
If you try them, please tell me how well they work on the nook.
I use "Valence" in conjuction with VNC server which will control a PC using the nook as mouse and keyboard.

[Q] Remote Desktop "Mouse Mode"

I am looking for a remote desktop solution, like LogMeIn or TeamViewer that doesn't require me to do any detailed configuration.
The problem is that LogMeIn, for example, won't treat my Note 3 phone as a tablet, so I can't use the mouse like a normal mouse. (The settings for mouse are "move mouse" and "move screen", but there is no direct mode available for phones to use a mouse like a regular mouse.)
My device is a Verizon Android 4.4 KitKat Samsung Note 3 phone (unfortunately rooting is not an option for me), and I am using it with the Note 2 dock with an external monitor and wireless usb keyboard/mouse. Everything works great except I can't find a good remote desktop solution that will allow me to work "normally" in terms of the mouse.
I also have Win 8 Home version on my desktop PC and do not want to configure port forwarding and a fixed ip to solve rotating external IP address assignments. (Please excuse me if I didn't say that correctly, but the point is that I really don't want to deal with those kinds of complexities.) Yes, I realize that I may have too many constraints - don't want configuration challenges (which I think rules out VNC or standard RDP), and also no rooting of the phone. But I am willing to pay a small monthly subscription, e.g. I looked at PocketCloud with $5/month, but that doesn't seem to support my requirement either from a quick look at the manual.
Is there anyone who can suggest a good solution for my needs?
Have you tried the google remote desktop? It's free. I've been pretty impressed with it.

Thanks for the suggestion. I hadn't thought about that because it was relatively new. But I may try it (after some more reading). Unfortunately, it doesn't look good for external mouse support. Here's one review...
Review from Jim Fox
Great, but no external mouse support I have been using Splashtop for a while now, but was super excited to use this when I saw it come on the play store. The problem I have is that when I take remote control of my computer, I use a bluetooth keyboard and mouse. The program works like a trackpad to control the remote mouse with touch, which is great when you don't have an external mouse, but makes it near impossible to control when you do. You have to hold the right mouse button down in order to move the remote mouse and then click with the left. Near impossible to use. Please fix.

On the other hand, the comments make me wonder if I should try LMI and TV again with an external trackpad instead of a mouse. I wonder if that behavior might be better?
