Configure IPTV on your FIre TV and watch Live TV - Fire TV General

The Free Trial Ended for NFPS on July 15th if you want to continue getting NFPS then make sure you are running KODI 15 RC2 or above and go here since they focus mostly on NFPS and Rocket private access
For those who arent aware you can watch live tv from a number of locations using something called IPTV, now normally this requires an IPTV Receiver (mag250, mag254 and avov) but using your current android device (yes this works for all the android boxes i have) and an application called STB Emulator you can achieve same service without needing to purchase additonal hardware.
Three methods to connect to IPTV Server
Method #1
Using STB Emulator it emulates the tv interface of a mag250 box.
Pros: Allows you to connect multiple iptv servers, Video on Demand works and you're able to view password protected channels (adult channels, If you have a paid iptv server this method might be the only method that works.
1. Download STB Emulator 0.5.22
Thanks to Psycon for STB Emulator Ver 0.6.01
2. If you want the ability to preview the channel before making it full screen use the VLC plugin method, Even though in my experience this crashes more often. Use External Player with MX PLayer for best results
If you want to choose external player download and install MX Player
If you use VLC plugin for media playback make sure to install VLC.
3. Follow my youtube video
4. I know in the video i said tv_ssytem_res for the resolution but choose 1280x720 so everything displays correctly on the Fire TV

Method #2
Main Thread of addon http://iptvtalk.org/showthread.php?1015-stalker-client-pvr-add-on
Pros: You dont need MX player since it uses KODI built-in player
1. Download pvr.stalker.client-android-arm-0.5.zip
2. Enable Live TV (Settings - Live TV - General - Enable)
3. Enabel Stalker Client PVR Addon and configure a MAC address
4. Restart Kodi and a TV option will appear
Method #3
Main Thread of addon http://iptvtalk.org/showthread.php?2514-stalker-any-plataform
Pros: Runs on older version of XBMC and KODI, Method #2 doesnt work on XBMC 13.2
1 - Download
2 - Open the Kodi
3 - Add-on -> Install from zip
4 - Go to config and set up what you want
5 - enjoy
Features
- Up to 3 Portals
- Force Clear Cache (Context menu on each portal)
- Channel groups
- Channel logos
- Parental lock (Default password 0000)
- VoD

Yep, looks like they are adding more channels. Try again in a couple of hours. It was working great earlier today. I'll take some video later today or tomorrow showing IPTV working on different paid servers.
Instead of TV if you go right and select videoclips you can watch their VOD service which is currently up.

Works great. the server is indeed not showing any live channels at the moment. they are replacing some hardware so it will be back up. VOD content still works though..
thanks for the share, I stopped following FTA and had no idea they are trying to move into the IPTV realm.

Thats exactly what happened.
1. First DirectTV cards were getting unlocked.
2. Dish Networks Nagravision 2 card was completely dumped than hacked into FTA boxes (This required people setting up Satellite Dishes)
3. Dish Network Moved to Nagravision 3 which forced people to switch over to something called IKS (Internet Key Sharing), this required FTA boxes with Internet connections.
4. Now there is word that Dish Network is switching over to Nagravision 4 which will kill IKS. So now everyone is setting up for IPTV.
Dont mean to bore people with the history of hacking Directtv or dishnetwork but its good to have an understanding why tons of these IPTV websites are coming up. Some IPTV services are legal (Dish Network is actually rumored to having a legal IPTV service) and some are not so legal.
http://cointelegraph.com/news/113259/dish-network-launching-iptv-service-payable-in-bitcoin

yeah, i was pretty into it back when fta was new. even made a a few pc based autoroll scripts that uploaded new keys to my box when charlie kept breaking true autoroll..
nfps was always pretty solid when it came to iks, happy its them pioneering this iptv stuff as the cost is going to be pretty low.
anyways, live tv back up on the test server and STB emulator 0.5.21 also runs well with the vlc plugin.
as far as the legality of streaming iptv, since there is no decrypting of signals done in peoples homes, its not illegal to watch a stream, in Canada anyways. its the same as watching shows on any streaming site like icefilms.. the server is the one bearing the risk, and nfps has been a great iks server that has been runining for a long time, if anyone can keep a service like this up, these guys can.

Are there any reliable free IPTV servers or ones that cost a reasonable price of say $5 a month?

i havent seen anything that low, the lowest ive seen is $12 a month but that was spanish content. i say the average price for these services will be in the $15-$20 a month range.

I have tried out a trial of another service with UK channels and it is hit and miss and most of the channels can be found for free on the vdubt xbmc addon anyway?
I don't think this is reliable enough to replace a cable or satellite setup yet...
Is there anyway to pull in the vdubt or other free iptv playlists into this Mag250 emulator?

well 1.iptvprivateserver.tv is free for now, but it is in testing phase. Once they are confident they can handle all the users and channels it will be going paid. and it will only be $108 a year... if your currently into FTA and have "donated" to nfps, then you will be grandfathered in for the remainder of your term (for anyone who purchased before feb 1).
This is not your grandfathers streaming sites, they are not simply going to be adding streams found on the net.. . I would check to see if it is legal in your country to access such a server.

Hello,
For your information we are planning to have the following lineup in the IPTV service:
- Charlie USA (Dish): All channels except Cinema PPV and internationals (at least at the beginning).
- BEV: Limited channels, but most of the popular ones like TSN are going to be available.
- Blue Sky: Most of the SD and HD channels except Sky Premiere (PPV).
- Red Point 50W: All channels including HDs.
- Media Networks 67W: All channels.
All PPVs movies channels are going to be excluded because of the VoD but we will open Sport PPV channels.
On the other hand we are trying to get some internationals channels but not sure if they are going to be available from the beginning.

Can somebody please share services with US channels? Doesn't matter free or payed.

Psycon... How do I sign up for this??

you cannot sign up. they are still in a trial phase..
however there are other servers currently up and running and being sold.
check out hxxp://dsspros.com/forum/other-type-discussions/
simple rules.. sign up to forum.. make at least 10 posts/replies to any subforum, then PM the seller asking for details, do not ask pricing on the forums themselves.

I couldn't get it to work with the VLC plugin or by selecting external player and then MXPlayer. I was able to get it working with the internal player though.
Mejdam, can you give any more info on the services from your two other screen shots?
I've never really considered IPTV services were actually a "thing." I figured they existed, but not much else. Can anyone give any links to other forums for more info on this sort of stuff?

aside from from the dsspros link i pasted above check out satfix.net. there is an iptv section offering services.

Hey Guys,
I'm trying to use the 0.5.18 , and the latest 0.5.21 - on a bunch of different devices, Nexus Player , Nexus 5, Galaxy Tab S and in each case if I try to use the VLC Plugin - it crashes back to the home screen - do I actually need to install VLC as well from the play store ?
Any idea ?

working gr8 on first try. most of the channels are working.
is there any other site?
thanks for the post.

1. You have to have a wireless router with either DLNA or UPnP enabled
2. Be on the same network
3. Fire up allshare and select from phone t other device
4. Select find media servers on the ps3 and select samsung phone.
5. Find the 720p video you want to stream and hit triangle and select copy
6. When that's done copying, hit play from xmb
Actually, I just tried this but I get unsupported data. Movies on my sd card work though.

Can you please help me to accomplish this? I tried the steps above with the results in my post. It's not working for me.
If the PS3 can connect directly to the epic then please explain these steps because I'd love to cut out the middle man so to speak.
Just Open allshare.
Look at your video/pictures/music menus on your PS3. Ta-da!
It's that easy.
The PS3 won't play your personal videos, though, so that sucks big time because it kind of defeats the purpose of why I want to use my PS3. If I want to watch movies through it, I'll just pop in the DVD.

After google searching, your router may not technically support it, but if it sees your PC, I don't see how it couldn't. Log into your router's settings. Select Administration. Select Management. You should see Web Access, Remote Access and UPnP. Make sure its enabled. If not, try a firmware update for the router and see if its visible after that. Careful with the firmware updates, usually, you can't roll back.
Well router UPnP is on:

Yeah. You won't be able to do anything with your PS3 on your Epic. It's a one way street. You can view some video formats on your phone through the PS3 but not the other way around.
That's all I'm trying to do. I have recorded some 720p videos with the epic and so far I haven't found a good and easy way to play them on my HD TV. I'm not trying to go the other way.

Well that won't work. You would need to send the video to the computer and have it transcoded to the ps3 cause it doesn't have the codec to view it. It pops up as unsupported data on the ps3. Windows media player will convert the video automatically (transcode) on the fly. Ill do a video for you on how to do both.

As promised, here is a tutorial on the allshare to ps3. You must be logged into the playstation network. UPnP said not supported when I setup my ps3 to my network. I'm not really sure why SinCity does what it does when trying to share the file, others have worked better in the past. I'm still looking for a transcoding program for windows. It appears that Windows media player no longer does this (sorry, had a mac for the past 2 years, just bought a new windows beast today).

Example of transcoding on a mac
The Epic and the PS3 go both ways. If you want to view pictures from the PS3 on your Epic. You have to turn on Media Server on PS3 and connect your Epic to the same network as your PS3. Turn on AllShare and select "Play File from server on my phone."
And then if you want to go from Epic to PS3, Click Play File from my phone on another player. And select the epic on the PS3....your done!

You've just described the exact same thing that a couple of other posts did. It's not working! I have my ps3 and my epic on the same wifi and the ps3 can see my windows pc just fine.
Please don't post unless you have something you can contribute. Posts like, "you just select allshare and it works" are useless. Read the thread, there are already posts like yours. We're looking for complete steps because for some of us its not just a matter of "finding" your epic on your ps3 media server search.

I thought you did in order to get media servers to work... maybe thats the issue? I wasn't 100% sure. I'll try signing out and reporting back... Please hold
Update: Nope, its finding my desktop's media server despite having an update now. Thats not your issue... My bet is on a router. Know anyone else with a PS3 you could try this with?
figured out how to transcode 720p to the ps3.
If your computer can communicate to the ps3 properly, then you're all set. What you do is:
1. fire up windows media place and select video library\
2. select the default file there if you haven't deleted it. Its Wildlife in HD. If you've deleted it, then just go to: Libraries\videos\sample videos-- skip 3
3. right click on the video and open folder
4. place your 720p recorded video in this folder
5. find your computer's media server on the ps3, select video-- all video-- and select your file. It should play shortly afterwards.
Basically, you could just create a shared folder somewhere on your computer and place the files in there and it should stream to the ps3.

HTC Desire's DLNA function

DLNA.
This function is new to me but not for the rest of the high tech world. I know
nobody yet have used this function on a DHD, but SGS users maybe know what to
expect. This thread mainly is gonna be about the functionality of the DLNA
function in the DHD.
- Suggestions on what TV/LCD/LED to get.
- Is the wireless streeming seemless.
- What options to change in the TV to get the function to work.
These and many more questions can be asked about DLNA.
This topic mainly is cuz i am going to buy that phone and any input is superb welcome, but this topic, yet has not been seen in the DHD General section.
Please, reply on what do you suggest and how do you se yourself using this function
on a daily bases.
Best regards

If you have a PS3 connected to your home network, then you connect your SGS/DHD to your home network via WiFi and turn on the DLNA app.
You'll see your SGS/DHD appear in the Video and Music menus of the XMB (you may have to scan for media servers on the PS3). Then you can browse the media folders on your SGS/DHD using the XMB.
Select a file, and it'll start playing on your TV. Simple.
That's how it works on my old Omnia II. Can't imagine it'll be any different with current handsets.

yeah ur right. but i've been wondering, will the format of videos have to be supported by both the DHD and the PS3? Does the ps3 actually decode the video file, or is that done on the DHD and simply streamed to the ps3?
for example, if i have an .avi file that works on my Desire hd, but assume this file type doesnt work on the ps3 natively, will it still be able to stream it?
This is a question that I'm very interested in finding out the answer too actually.
As I understand it, the advertised feature is that I can stream content (pictures, videos. music) to a DLNA device to display on my TV.
In my case, I have a PS3 and an Xbox360 which I assume will recognise my Desire HD and playback the content I have on it, which is fine.
I use my Xbox360 to play back content from my computer (which I believe is DLNA as well), so I am wondering if I can use my Desire HD to play back stuff from other devices. If so, then I can watch all my movies and listen to all my music via DLNA on my phone...
I really badly hope that this will work - MAJOR selling point for me!

The format of the video has to be supported by the PS3.
That used to be a problem with early PS3 Firmwares, but DivX/Xvid are natively supported by the PS3 these days...

Well, again, the DLNA app on the Omnia II allowed this, so I see no reason why this wouldn't work on the newer handsets.
Incidentally, if you connect to your home network via WiFi and use a File Manager that allows you to browse the local network (EStrongs File Explorer, for instance) - then you should be able to just share your PC's media folder and watch avi and mp3 files by browsing to them and opening them on your device. No DLNA needed.

There's no conversion done at all by either the PS3 or the DHD, DLNA is literally just a transport method, so you need to be streaming a file that is compatible on the receiving device. There are good media players available on Android to cover most filetypes though.
Of course, if you're trying to stream 1080p mkv files to your DHD, then you might struggle...

Useful to know! Thanks for that.
or just get one of these: http://www.expansys.com/hisense-108...our-downloaded-films-on-your-tv-in-hd-186127/
hisense has dlna and is brilliant bit of kit. youd just need a gaming relay wifi station / repeater or similar.
a wifi usb dongle should work too
bit cheaper here: http://www.redstore.com/HISSDC001
I have been using DLNA for a good few months now with both my Samsung GS & Acer Laptop which has DLNA onboard for streaming to my Samsung LED TV and find it worthwhile for both Music & Photo's. However, for Video you have to watch (pun not intended) what you are going to stream.
Any video file that has heavy encoding will make the buffer stream work overtime and often freeze or judder on the TV.
.MKV files are quite prone to this but DivX and MP4 files play quite well.
Even the phone's own camera if recorded at 720p will test your TV as it struggles to receive the data smoothly.
The first thing you will need to pick up the DLNA content from your phone is a media hub. This can either be a Laptop with DLNA, a PS3, or if you are lucky to have one of the recent LCD/LED TV's with DLNA built in you can stream the content direct to your TV.
In my setup I have a Samsung LED TV which is connected by Ethernet to my Router.
Whenever I want to stream data from the phone to the TV the first thing to do is on the phone run the DLNA App (on the SGS it is called AllShare).
P.S. There are other third-party DLNA titles available such as iMediashare Mobile and Twonky Mobile which will do the same job.
The next step is on the TV Remote use the 'Source' button and change it until you see on the TV your phone's name (mine again says Samsung Galaxy S).
Once you have selected the phone the TV's screen will now change to a Media Hub and give a menu system where you can then select Photo's, Music or Video.
Providing on your phone's DLNA App you have chosen to stream specific files these same files will then be available for displaying on your TV.
To control the content on your TV simply use the TV's Remote and Play/Pause/Stop/Back for previous/Fwd for next/etc.
At present we don't know anything on the App that will be on the DHD so it's going to be guesswork in exactly how data is selected for streaming.
Hope this helps.

One question, you seem to know about this stuff, is the DLNA menu in the TV different to every different DLNA application, or is the menu already in the TV itself?

Each DLNA receiver has it's own menu for browsing DLNA media that it has discovered. The menu is part of the software in the TV, PS3, XBox, HTC receiver, etc...
DLNA is a standard for the transmission and discovery of media, but once that connection has been made, you can stream/send all sorts - DivX, Mkv, WMV, Avi, MP3, Wav, Jpg, Bmp, etc, etc.
The receiving device will have it's own software, with it's own menu, and it's own supported filetypes and codecs.
If you have a DLNA TV, it may only be able to play DivX and MP3. Or maybe Mkv and Wav. It's up to the manufacturer and the software they've loaded...

The menu you see on the TV is what is built in on the TV.
So it does not matter what software you use on the phone it will always be the same on the TV.
As an example ~ Both my Laptop (which also transmit media data) & Phone show exactly the same menu on the TV.

This box is indeed tempting, hopefully (or probably) will get custom roms, I am in a country where the amazon services are limited so thats not of any interest to me. I use a generic RK3188 TV stick atm, its good but its cheapness is a drawback. Hopefully the build quality and performance of this box will be a worthwhile upgrade...
The mojo looks nice but is a bit too pricey, this amazon box hits the right price bracket for me
Sweet! I was heading here to post up this info and seen yours.
We need this thing rooted!! I have the Amazon store and all but what I bought through it is limited plus they don't always get all the games/apps.
Definitely going to need root.
The only thing I am wondering is if DTS pass through works.... not a deal breaker if not.
Also if I slap a harddrive in the USB port will it read it. I know that almost all revs of Android will but there are some instances that it doesn't.
This is definitely looking sweet. Just bought one! Getting it on Friday. If we're able to root, and it works better than the Roku 3, I'm selling the Roku pronto, along with my ChromeCast

Pass through is hardware dependent not software.
When pass through occurs the software simply streams the bits through to the end device (stereo) and it decodes, nothing happens to the data on the software end.
If the chips do not support this pass through node then the software will have to decode and pass that through to the end unit sometimes in PCM. In most cases this means the software will decode and down sample it to 2channel and out put it to the stereo through HDMI.
To date not many devices support HDMI pass through and usually when one is supported the other one is since the same node is used for both. A license is still required for the device playing the move even though it is simply passing the sound data on to another payer and this is where a lot of companies go south, they don't want to buy the license.
At any rate the Ouya(Tegra 3) has hardware support for pass through but took a few software revisions to allow the hardware to talk to the software.

So Koush ordered one!!
It can only get better from here!!!!!
I got mine earlier today. I enabled ADB debugging. It uses ADB network connections. Could I conceivably side-load APK's that aren't currently available on the Fire TV, or will they not work since they weren't developed for the device?
UPDATE: Yes, you can push APK's and run them, but the do not run correctly. The app that I tried (WWE Network) opened, but the display is sideways and magnified.

You could try installing Ultimate Rotation Control and forcing all apps to landscape view. I'm personally interested in side loading Airtight to Airplay audio from my devices so I can potentially replace my Apple TVs with these boxes.

HMMM very interesting!
I have the same deal with my Optimus G phone when I have it plugged into the TV.
The magnified is due to the resolution/DPI I'm guessing and may look good once you lock rotation.
Oh and with debug that means that the universal root tool may work! I am not saying try it because I'm not getting blamed if it bricks your device.

I was able to correct the orientation problem using that app, however the display is still magnified and the remote cannot navigate to touch buttons/menus.
My skill set is very limited when it comes to these types of things, so I'm sure we'll make more progress once someone more knowledgeable get's a hold of one.

The magnafication is the DPI more than likely.
Are all apps doing it?
Also the touch api is missing and may need to be added. You could try to use a BT mouse or USB mouse to see if the pointer shows up. I am guessing the remote is not an airmouse...
Can you test something for me really quick. Can the voice function open apps? Can you speak into it and say tunein or pandora and the app opens? Kinda curious.

Available TV Networks

For someone who does not have cable, what kind of content is available right out the box with the Nexus Player? Do networks have apps where I can browse their library?
Looks like there are apps for:
NBC
ABC
CBS
FOX
CW
Though, some of them require sign-in from a TV provider, so you might not get all the features and/or shows. Try them on your current phone or tablet.
Also obviously they'd have to make their app compatible with Android TV, but you could probably always sideload.
Do you mean live TV or on-Demand?

Besides the pre-installed apps that will be on it, I believe you can simply go to the Nexus Player website in order to get additional apps including ones for t.v. (I can't post links yet due to being new here) Currently they have close to 30 apps and counting, so you should be able to find something useful there, or if not then try checking on individual network sites to see if there's any new info regarding Nexus Player

Fire TV 2 Gaming Thread

I'm making this thread because there simply isn't enough info dedicated to gaming on the Fire TV 2. I can't be the only one with the frustration of the lack of proper USB support or gamepads not working correctly.
Some things I have found out
- You can install the OUYA launcher to this device and gain access to the Discover store but if you own OUYA games or plan to buy any, you will not have access to DRM. I will play around with transferring my DRM folder from a real OUYA but I'm waiting for a simpler rooting process.
- The OUYA Controller, while perfect on the old Fire TV, it is far from perfect on AFTV2
- PDP Rock Candy, wired XBox 360 controllers works in some games, not in others.
- Haven't found a way to get the Google Play Store to properly work yet... Putting that out there.
- For game streamers, the Google, OUYA and Amazon versions of Kainy do not work
- You don't always have to buy the Fire TV version of your Amazon games. Just transfer your purchased game from a phone or tablet to the AFTV2 and your Amazon account will give you proper access to the game on Fire TV2
Anyone else have any gaming related findings?

Wireless XBox 360 controllers used to work fine with Fire TV 1. My Fire TV 2 doesn't even find (recognise) them.
Thanks for the useful comments regarding the 360 controller. That saved me a lot of money buying gadgets that would have just sat in a cupboard.
Another thing would be streaming games via splashtop, remotr, kinoconsole or moonlight. I understand only nvidia supports hardware encoding for streaming which smooths out frame rates. So far I haven't had any luck getting anything to work. Splashtop crashes out, remotr hasn't been reliable and I haven't been able to try the other two yet but l will be trying out . I'll post my results on this tinkering.

If it is on you won't be able to use the USB port for anything other than ADB access.

Sorry I missed your post. For me, the OUYA launcher allows me to access games I've purchased from their store over the past two years. Additionally I use it for better organization of non-Amazon apps. It's VERY handy. You can also purchase additional games from their store but I will admit that some games have DRM issues and pictures within game pages rarely show in the store. Also, without a way to freeze the Fire TV home men upon opening the OUYA menu, some games will not have proper access to their pause menus and there is NO way to access the OUYA "home" menu. -P.M. Me for additional details on installing the OUYA menu. I wish Wonder Lee was around. His software controller modding skills would be helpful right now.
New question: Am I the only one using the following controller on the Fire TV 2/4K?

In case you don't know, these are the Rock Candy XBox 360 controllers made by PDP. They are the most common third party XBox 360 controller. For the most part these controllers work well but I seem to have major issues with some games not wanting to play nice with the analog triggers and right analog stick. Additionally Recast (the Dreamcast emulator) does not recognize the triggers at all and struggles with the d-pad. I've already sent a bug report to the Recast team. I really like these controllers from the lighthearted colors to the nice, long white cables. I just wish the software issues could be fixed.

I have Modern Combat 5 running on the 4K Fire TV. You will have to side load this game from the Google Play Store as this game is NOT available through Amazon's App Store. For those of you who are currently playing this game on other devices, connect your save files with your Facebook account FIRST. Because there is no proper "Google Play Games" support on the Fire TV, connecting your saves to your Facebook account will ensure access to your cloud save once you load MC5 on your fire TV. Have fun!
Dont want to double post but here is my latest video of my using OUYA resources on the AFTV2. I eve added some Modern Combat 5 play time so everyone can see how well the game plays on our device.

I found out that the Fire TV saves all internal apps to "/data/app" I tried doing a directory bind (using the app "Folder Mount") of that folder to my hard drive and I didn't go so well. The Fire TV immediately considered all apps in that folder as being the "wrong version". This **** is a pain in the ass! We can't do any serious gaming on this box until this storage problem is fixed!

Your copy of Fifa was probably made with a specific GPU in mind. If you're using an AFTV2, the GPU is a Power VR GX6250. -on AFTV1 it's Qualcomm Adreno 320. Your copy of Fifa is probably NOT an "all devices" version. Check the specs of the Android device you're copying from. If the graphic card isn't the same "type" as the one on your Fire TV then try looking for a version that matches your Fire TV's GPU.
