Hey everyone so I had the turbo ballistic edition when it was released. After two months I started to get problems from it and have tried all the ways possible to fix it. I did fdr, art mode, reboot, updates and it still had weird heating issues for normal light use with the cooling down would take forever. The capacitive buttons would not work every so often a day. I then last week talked with a Verizon rep and ended up getting a certified like new turbo and those problems have do away completely resulting in a much better battery life and everything else.
Can you go into some more depth about the issues you were facing? Sometimes my capacitive buttons don't work and I have to random scroll or press buttons on the screen to get it working again. Not sure if I have the heating/battery life issue, could you describe what you were seeing?

I was facing two issues. One of which was that issue of the capacitive button, I too had that issue tough have been encountering. The other tissue was that my phone would heat up quickly just by surfing the web and social media. Alongside the cooling down would take a great amount of time. Now with this certifified like new replacement it has all been gone now. Capacitive buttons used to fail me twice a day and now I haven't encountered no problem whatsoever alongside there isn't so much heating anymore plus the cooling down is so quick now thankfully.
Sometimes my capacitive buttons don't work either.

I just cracked my screen the other day and my replacement is coming in Tuesday/Wednesday. So hopefully it doesn't have any problems.

What a bummer those turn of events happened to your screen. Hopefully the new replacement doesn't give you problems and I have one suggestion when you get the replacement. As soon as you set it up without installing apps, put it on art mode with the charge it has then drain the battery until it shuts off while play store is restoring device. Art mode has significant increased my battery life to where I get 5 hours of sot with still 40-45 of battery left.
I have the same issue with the capacitive buttons. Sometimes they stop working and I have to touch the screen or scroll a bit for them to respond again. Not sure i want to go through a replacement just for that though.

Your right there isn't much need for that issue to get a replacement. I had weird heating issue hence why I had to get one.
I was given a DROID TURBO but how can I know if it is "CERTIFIED Like New" or "completely new - unused".
Thank You

I am more concern about the touch screen problem. Not the Multitouch one, but the one about the touch screen goes crazzzy (seriously a phone that is operate completely by touch screen and the touch screen is not reliable??? what the heck is Google/HTC thinking?). That is the main thing that is keeping me from this phone.

I'd be curious to see the actual number of people suffering from this problem since so few people are complaining about it. Mine doesn't have this issue.
My screen goes crazy.
Every day or so ill turn the phone on where the top half of the screen wil be fine, but the bottom half will be out of calibration by about an inch. I'll feel the vibrate from the Buttons at the bottom when im clearly about an inch about them. Reboot fixes

i must be one of the few people who are lucky as well. I don't have the screen calibration error. Every blue moon the wrong spot will light up but i just have to press it again, no need to exit out of app or reset. I've only had my n1 for a 1 1/2 months, i was not one of the early adopters, if that means anything.
Also, no screen calibration issues. Hope the new OTA opens up the rest of the N1 Ram!

Get your palms off the side of the screen and it'll work fine.

The only screen issue I have is when I am using the phone via BlueTooth and need to Mute the phone.. when I hit the Mute button, it presses the 0 button instead. I just have to hit power to turn off the screen for a few seconds and turn it on and it works as expected again.

Look like my comment fired up a storm. According to Google help forum, there are about 2000 posts, some are just back and fore, but even then it still come to a sizable #, most of them done like 4 -5 exchanges and still have the problem. I have 1 more month until I pull a trigger on this phone, hoping to see improvement.

I have issues with touchscreen stuff all the time. When I type fast I'll get all kinds of errors... I also have the issue when sometimes no matter where I click on the screen it only hits the home button... I really hope this gets cleared up.
Well I must have very bad luck because this is my second N1 with the problem.Return the first one 00 because the screen craziness and receive a new one 01 (different badge) and also has the problem. But I'm keeping this one, anyway is rooted already and notices is better way better, but the problem still here, but just ,put it to sleep and wake-up and fix it.I don't know the cause of this if software or hardware but definitely not everybody has it.I downloaded a drawing app from the market and I can see that when the problem I touch someplace near the middle of the screen and it recognized the touch as a straight line all the way to the bottom.

And I always make sure I'm not making contact with the screen with the palm or anything else.
it arrived yesterday at htc repair and ive been watching the repair tracking site. i had some pixel problems, like a quarter of my screen was darkened grey.
Keep in mind my phones bootloader unlocked, rooted, haha and i sent it in as is running the latest miui. Why? idno.
Anyways. I just checked the repair site and it says:
Ticket Information
Status: We are repairing your phone.
Service Type: Repair
Issue Description: top screen is darker that the rest of the device
I havent approved to pay for any repairs for an out of warranty phone. So i guess im off the hook right? I think im about to prove that htc repair people dont give a F***!
THought id share..
Uhhh, we have known this for a year now. It has been proven time and time again that HTC will warranty repair hardware defects, despite an unlocked bootloader.
This is nothing new or surprising.
Did someone has problems with the multi-touch screen: lags, do not respond or random reactions ...even when having a call ?
the solution for now is to push "shutdown button" and it seems to reinitialize the sensors for the screen ... isn't it weird ? It occurs 40% of the time ...
The menu for reinitialize sensors/calibration do not exist (for HTC Legend/Hero you can re-calibrate the sensors).
Do you have same problems ?
I will send it for repair soon...
im having the same problem, ive had it for a long time now, ive gone threw 20 Roms. so i know its not software related, or is it something the devs are over looking??
weird thing ....do Googlers have same problem when demonstrating navigation/goggles/phone calls/voice recognitions .....or do we fall on bad series ???
definitely hardware problem or something no-one has been aware of ....?

Sometimes it's worse than others, I think if the phone is running something pretty intense it happens more often. Otherwise, no, there's no calibration. Calibration doesn't make sense on a capacitive screen.
The touch screen issues have been known since the beginning, and the solution of quickly turning the screen off and on has been known for just as long.
It's part of the hardware, and most if not all Nexus owners experience it once in a while.
Getting a warranty replacement for that will not fix anything, it is a flaw in the hardware design.
Good thing to know that...but really weird for such a device...they probably think about it when starting/choosing next nexus.... ;-)

I'm curious whether they'll return it with a relocked bootloader and stock ROM
i've noticed that the only time i have touchscreen response issues is when i use my N1 without a case on it and it seems to be because some of my fingers touch or get near the edges of the screen glass. i have a silicone slip on case and when its on the phone it prevents me from touching the glass accidentally at the edges and i never experience any response problems when its on the phone. just my 2c.

yeah that would annoy the crap outta me as well, glad mine does not exhibit this problem.
i'd love to guesstimate how old mine is but i'm the second owner, it might be possible that they fixed this hardware issue in later build revisions or it could just be a random problem with the touchscreen/module, some do it and some don't idk.

was it amoled or slcd though lol
i have to make the call when i get up. today my usb port was gone from the phone when i went to plug it in tonight. i never used to have the screen issue, it slowly started happening and now it happens all the time, i lay it flat in my hand and i hit a button on screen and my menu pops up etc.
nice to see a recent time frame though, i'm dreading going without my phone and having a dumbphone replacement. would love to know if it was amoled or slcd you got back though, thats my one worry
I've noticed that on my NS, I don't have to actually touch the screen to tap keys. I can keep my finger slightly hovering over the glass and it still recognizes my input. Sometimes it actually causes me to mistype at a higher rate than other phones.
Are you guys seeing this too?

Glad to see I'm not the only one who's experienced this....I thought I was going crazy. It's sporadic at best, but when it happens it is annoying. I can't say for sure what causes it, but I'd love to hear other people's opinions.
I've been getting this as well.
same here. Guess they have the capacitance set a bit too high.....
yup, me too. infact. my home button gets phatom long pressed and the light is off on it...have to power it off/ turn the screen off and on muliple times. that insanity has occured about 4 times thought.
Thanks for the replies. I went back into Best Buy and tried their demo phone. So either it's supposed to be this way or they messed up a whole batch of phones. I wish I could remember whether the vibrant did this or not, but it's not standing out.
Sometimes touchscreen nonresponsive too. This is not relating to partial outer border touching either.

I believe Engadget did mention did this during their review @ http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/10/nexus-s-review/.
Their exact quote: "One other thing of note -- we noticed a few missed or latent presses on the touchscreen which occasionally led to stuttery behavior or an opened item that we didn't mean to tap. It's hard to say if this was a software or hardware issue (and we know that sometimes Android devices can be particularly finicky when syncing). It wasn't a deal-breaker by any means, but we saw the issue rear its head a handful of times, and felt it was worth mentioning."
it's nothing ,, the Samsung galaxy S does that too D:
that happens due to the static on your finger.
Hi
I opened a thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=879872) because I definitely have a problem on the back capacitive button, just wondering how many people are affected?
In fact I have seen this in four devices now, it looks that there is a batch of defective Nexus S phones out there affected by this problem?
It's normal. My Nexus One is like that too. It's magic.
So, it is normal to have un-responsive back button after some times?
Damn ... this is bad. I hope I can cope with it. I really hate hardware problem.
And still could not understand why Google cannot fix it.

And now from Samsung ...

There's a thread for the back button, that's a real issue. Some people have the Back button issue, some the Home button issue. Both of those buttons are on the outer edge of the phone, so something may be messed up when the phone was being assembled.
Hi,
I've got some weird problems with my N1. I searched around but couldn't find the solution.
I've tried CM7 stable 7.0.3 and Nighties 87 builds, and this problem happens to both.
1. When I'm running an app, such as "plants vs zombies", or typing with keyboard, when I touch a spot, it thinks I touch another spot. For example, when I touch key "D", it may give me a "space". When I try to place a plant on the left side, it puts it on the right side.
2. When I'm watching videos with MoboPlayer, the screen is locked sometimes (maybe this is a setting that I don't know, how do I turn this feature off?). When I press the "menu" button, it was supposed to unlock the screen, but it actually unlocks and locks back and forth continuely, and the phone keeps vibrating.
All the problems will be gone if I just lock the phone and unlock again. However, it will come back after a while.
Please help and thank you very much!

I see. Thanks.
Just turn off the screen then back on, it clears this bug and only takes a second.
All nexus ones have this issue.
I traveled from Singapore to the States for about 2 weeks in May and I suddenly had this issue too. I never had it for the 16 months I owned it back here in Singapore. And when I got back after my 2 weeks trip, the problem never occurred at all again.
I'm guessing that it has to do with either the temperature or humidity levels.

I agree with you. I think it has to do with humidity specifically because it happens only when I just left from the bathroom (taking a shower) and there is a vapor, then the touch gets crazy!

Iv'e only had it a few times in about 16 months. But, it's very dry here in Vegas wih very low humidity!
I've had this issue from day one with the nexus one. For me atleast it triggers everytime I have the phone plugged in and I'm using the phone at a 90 degree angle, like sideways in bed, very strange.

I have similar problems as mentioned irregularly, but sometimes switching the screen off and on doesn't fix it at all. It's not very humid where I live (except when it's raining). Has anyone else considered replacing the digitizer (the touchscreen panel) of the phone, and if this would fix the problem?

I sent my N1 back to HTC for warranty repair because of this issue. They did something and sent it back saying all good now. The issue occurs less frequently now but it is there.
I suspect there is something in the trackball area that generates EMF of certain qualities (frequency?) and it interferes with the screen circuitry due to poor shielding and close proximiy.

this is definitely a design flaw of N1, the touchscreen controller chip just SUCKS
hey guys, does anyone have issues with the screen becoming unresponsive when warm ? I first noticed after leaving the unit on charge in the sunlight, screen up. basically the screen needs more than a touch, sometimes it doesn't respond without a firm hand. after playing with a few different kernels this is definately an issue for me. even on stock if i play a game for long enough, heat will lead to the screen becoming unresponsive ??? stock rom and kernel is where I'm at right now and the issue is still present ? any thoughts guys ?

I have the problem where the screen will become less responsive after using it for a while, but not completely unresponsive. It's hard to notice at times, I have "show touches" enabled to help me see it. Cycling the screen off then back on fixes it. I've been hoping that someone would be able to definitively say if it's an individual hardware defect or a software bug. Seems like a lot of people have this issue.
It's especially annoying when playing a touch game that requires fast, accurate inputs.

Are we 100% sure it's hardware? I find it odd locking/unlocking really quick would remedy a hardware issue.
I'm thinking the problem may be more widespread than it seems. It's easy to not notice it. I only noticed when I had problems controlling a few precision input, fast-paced games.
