[GUIDE] Driver Installation (easy mode) - ONE General

Hello all. For those wanting to root your OPOs or other fun stuff, I wrote a very simply guide on the official forums which takes a minimalist approach.
It seems all the threads out there for this require you to download some driver files from various resources, however, this is not necessary.
Since the editor is so plain on xda, I posted a PDF version on Mediafire here:
The Minimalist OPO Driver Guide for Windows 7 and Above.pdf
Rep: I'm trying to establish some rep on the forums here, so please rate and upvote. I appreciate it greatly! :victory:

[Q] Modifying ROM .zip's

So I've found myself re-installing the Syndicate ROM several times in the last few days. Been fooling with things a lot, getting edumacated. My question is, I would like to include the Syndicate theme add-on (with battery %) in the ROM to begin with. In other words, I don't want to have to flash the stock Syndicate ROM, and then have to flash the theme separately.
I unzipped both the stock ROM and the theme and it seems to me all I would have to do for this to work is just write over the applicable stock ROM files with the ones from the add-on theme, re-zip the files, put on SD card, etc.
Would this work?
Also, if I wanted to remove say the ES File Explorer from the stock ROM and maybe replace the YouTube app with 1.6.19 and then re-zip, etc. Would that work as well?
this is reposted from jairomeo in nexus forums but this helped get me started:
[THEME] The Ultimate Android Themeing Guide - Updated 4/26
Since we know information for creating themes is spread out all over the place and sometimes hard to follow and understand, I have started compiling a guide using the information spread throughout XDA and other forums. Hopefully this can become a Sticky
I've sent this out to a few new themers and such and they have found the parts that are complete very helpful.
Initially I wanted to wait until it was complete before posting it anywhere, but I've hit a wall on being able to put my thoughts together. I am kind of busy and stressed out with work, therefore I am putting up this way users can review and other themers and maybe start compiling some of the missing information. I also hope for non themers to give feedback or post questions and ideas can be added and maybe get my creative juices flowing again.
The guide is a collaboration of information from many themers/users. I am making sure to provide credit for all individuals writings. I am writing it in word, but posted it in Google Docs to all can view.
If you are going to link to this, please link back to this thread and not the document, this way we can keep the conversation in one spot and work together as a community, to have a document that isn't tool and utility based, but one that teaches people how to edit themselves, and teach with potential of finding more things we can control.
I will update the copy on Google Docs until it's completion.

Add in some of the information from http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...04#post3385304
Add Beyond Compare as a software tool to get started with (recommended by bgill)
Add http://markcarson.com/markcarson/ColorCalc.html or another site that does color conversion codes
I'll add to the to do as things come in. If you want to ask questions or faster feedback, follow me on Twitter.
Since Google Docs screwed up some formatting, I am also putting the current copy in PDF on my site
The document in not complete so PLEASE don't distribute yet or put in other places. Wait until it's finished. I don't want copies floating around everywhere, if I see that, I will pull the PDF

Somehow the Mac version of fastboot and platform-tools's fastboot in Windows did not worked. It worked with a Windows version of fastboot for Ideos though.. I hate rebooting to Windows for fastboots
There's linux and mac versions of fastboot and adb, I guess I can include them too in fastboot+adb.zip.
Though it's starting to get fat, it's gonna be +30mb with 3 versions of fastboot + adb + venue/s5/s7 drivers
dell steak or viewsonic gtablet?
i dont want phone, i want good android tablet
Many thanks for publishing this guide, a great help for noobs like me who are just getting to grips with their streaks will be trying out a few of the roms on here though sorry to see that fards is taking a break on the gingerstreak project - it looks pretty good so far! Will try the streakin and simple roms probably and hope that I don't get too messed up as my skill level is quite low...be seeing you all in the forums!
Streakmod Source?
It seems Streakmod is key to several basic ops, but I have not been able to find a download link so far. Any clues?
TIA,

Custom Rom and Recovery List 8th link in OP
TheManii just oozes data... just kidding.. thanks for all your hard work.
dell devices at xda would not be the same without you
Unfortunately documentation is not as glamourous as making custom roms.
My plan is to document the venue, Streak 7, and Streak 10 to the same degree, but without the former two I cant actually test my guides. I must rely on unreliable user comments to fix them.
I would likely attempt to create a custom rom for the venue as it has none at all, but it's virtually impossible to dev for a device you dont own.
I would like to work with the new 'millenium' device as all the recent dell branded devices share a lot more then just their names. But I dont expect to ever recieve one.

Thanks, that does get me on the "right page" at least.
However, I am a bit confused since the "8th link" (of more than 30 linked zip files - quit counting after that), is listed as DJ-Steve's Streakdroid 1.2.0, and way down at the bottom of that page (30+ links) are 10 Streakmod versions with the last 2 having active links. Of those 2 the last one has "beta" in the zip file name, and the other one has "DoctorWfix" in the file name, so neither one sounds particularly obvious as the one to pick for basing everything else on.
Should I get the beta, 0.3.2.8? How would I install it? Make it a "update.zip" file on my SD card, and use the boot menu item for installing such files?
BTW, I have the "347" build ROM it seems - should I update that with the latest, 360 build?
TIA,
R
The 8th link refers to the post and not what's on the rom page.
Techinically all versions of streakmod are 'beta.' Dont let the name fool you though, there are no currently known issues with streak mod to date. It's more or less stable for everyday use.
If you are on 347 you are recommended to update to 360, you only need to download the 360 pkg and put it on the sdcard, then follow the directions on the wiki to do a stock update. You can skip the part of installing the matching recovery if you have not yet changed your recovery
TheManii, i'm not flattering, but thought that pressing "thanks" is not enough.
You guides are great, like 42 for Streakers You can't do much having a house without any documentation.
And looking at ROM deveolpment, do you really want to be one of the "ThereIFixedIt" guys?
I think you haven't made a ROM just because you'll think it's not good enough to release.
Sorry for offtopic/bad english.
I do make custom roms, every release of Streakdroid I end up customizing to the point that it may very well be considered a different rom.
I simply dont release my roms, they're all 'private' I guess. If you're on #dellstreak you'll see me mention that my roms are heavily customized versions of streakdroid with every known fix applied. I work rather closely with fards and dj_steve on various things, but it's all pretty much behind the scenes stuff and documentation.
Pretty much all streak roms can be broadly grouped under: "based on stock rom" or "based on streakdroid".
Unless you're actually compiling the kernel and apps themselves, making a custom rom by adding/removing files is relatively easy. I'd rather make a guide on how to customize your rom for yourself, with the sum of all the guide I created that's pretty much everything you need to do that actually, all it's missing is a page to link them up into a logical flow pattern.
Now that I think about it I might just go and make a guide on how to make a custom rom.

[Q] test roms on emulator

Hi,
I would like to test the roms I can find here, on an emulator.
for that, I will need something like the SDK for the Acer tablet A500.
(to build my AVD)
I can't find it. anyone have an idea where I can find it ?
thanks
Olivier
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=android+sdk
ah ah ah . so fun )
unfortunatly, it is not provided by google !
I know well the android SDK, I am talking about a small part which is sometime provided by constructor in order to help the developper to build application with android SDK.
for example, Sony provides the SDK part for some of its device. it has to be added to the android SDK.
I think it could comes from Acer, or developer who has it because they are working near or far from this (in the same way, the Leak comes from someone which is near from developer team)
I am still looking for that.
thanks
Olivier
Im totally confused as to what you are looking for.. If its reference sdk from acer . They have not provided this.. I think its something they provide to google then google adds it to the sdk. or acer will provide a repo to add to your sdk.
now here is what setup i have..
1 download the sdk tools from developer.android.com/sdk i think is the url (use search )
2. download eclipse (there is a link on the developer.android.com site)
3 download the correct FULL Java library abe sure to read the requirements on the version of eclipse you use for what jave version you need )
4 Read read READ .. Read the how to install sdk development environment in Eclipse for your EXACT OS . Pay close attention to every detail. like is is x86 x64 and so on.
5 Follow the instructions word for word on again the install and setup for android development platform for your OS Version.
This is what i use as well as CYGWIN (this is for advanced users) As well as there are other tools that make developing much easier. YES IM NEW TO all of this as well. But have learned alot over the last year.
The above only gets you ready. Once you get to this point . KEEP . WELL YOU KNOW THIS Part already KEEP READING.. in a few weeks you will on your way.
GOOD LUCK developer.android.com has everything your asking and beyond.
If any of the above is incorrect Blame it on developer.android.com or the mighty thor. god of the universe..

Android programmer newbie needs to know basics

Hi, so tomorrow is Sunday and I am in the mood to write some cool programs for android devices. Please tell me all the tools I require and some reverse engineering ones too for copy pasting some cool things thx.
Here's a google doc a user called autom8r from reddit posted.
It's pretty useful and he goes through why he used everything. Credits to him not me.

EDIT: Well seen as I have less than 10 posts I can't post the link...
EDIT: Here's the link all truncated: ht[REMOVETHIS]tps://[REMOVETHIS]docs.google.co[ANDALSOREMOVETHIS]m/spreadsheet/pub?key=0Aiakq5EFgZZTdGlmblFNMFZLN3huRnNUNzdkWDRoekE&output=html
Too many things to download ><" jdk eclipse adt blah blah no longer interested in android development
You just need Eclipse for JAVA developers, and Android SDK with ADT plugin. And if it you first application you must read the book like "Android development for 24 hours".
Can u please provide direct download links to those files. This eclipse has like 2820207328282626 versions and I get confused
On Android Developers there is a bundle package which contain sdk/eclipse/adt.
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
I Would not recommend you copying and pasting parts of other people's software. You will learn much more if you try to write it yourself.
For a lot of Android features there are open source libraries. Try them out, they may help you developing your app.

In response to post 95 [ROM][AOSP][LolliRock][v.1.4] thread

dweeze87 posted this request:
I am currently rooted with Chainfire but I can not understand how to flash Lollirock. I am not a newb but I can not understand how to install this on my player. Any chance someone can give me some assistance on how to install on my NP? Much appreciated and thanks in advance.!
I'm new to the Android world of rooting and custom roms, so some of the terminology used in "how to" guides has given me pause at times.
I have successfully installed LolliRock (v1.3) on my Nexus Player and I documented the steps I took, as I was performing them.
I'm also new to xda posting (this is my 2nd post), so I couldn't post a direct reply to dweeze87's [ROM][AOSP][LolliRock][v.1.4] #95 post. That's why I'm responding here.
Ive loaded my LolliRock Installation Google doc onto my Google Drive. Here is the share link to that doc:

note: again as an xda newbie, I can't post an actual link, so remove the spaces from "h t t p s : " above, before browsing to the linked doc.
