Hi,
I've just purchased my D802 from a friend who said the screen was faulty.
When turned on, there are white ghosting lines behind text and light colours, but when it is something black there is no such issue.
After using it for a while, leaving screen on for 10 minutes or so and scrolling through images, the display seems to go more and more white until i turn off and turn it on, then it goes somewhat normal and happens again.
Is this an issue with the LCD itself? I've had a look inside, and it doesn't seem like it's ever had a screen replacement of any kind.
Thanks in advance.

You have not given sufficient details for someone to troubleshoot this issue.
1 Rooted?
2 Have Custom Recovery?
3. what ROM are you running?
If you answered YES to 1 and 2 just dowbload the correct kernel from this post then flash in RECOVERY (LINK White Lines Fix)
Hi,
I'm facing the same problem :/ and the problem gets worst when brightness is high.
Not rooted
No recovery

hey guys
for a long time i am having this issue with my screen.
it flickers sometimes, no pattern of times. but it does flickers almost all the time when i put it on automatic backlight, or if i set the brightness to lowest level, or 1-2 level more than lowest.
at first i thought the battery may be going bad, because i did have battery issues. but now that i have bought a new battery, it still happens.
i read that it might occur because of the s-view covers. but i have s-view covers for almost a year, and it only happens for about 3-4 months.
though i did buy a new s-view cover on august. could this be related? i think i did have flickering problems even earlier than august.
either way, i had removed the s-view cover from my phone, it does seem to flicker less. and weird thing, sometimes it just enters the s-view mode where all screen goes black except the window part... maybe the phone misses the cover
any way. what could be the problem? how can i solve it? maybe i should format the phone and install another rom? i have the latest Omega rom version right now.
thanks everybody.
anybody help?
no one?
I think I've found the best solution out there for most annoying screen flickering issues... Done a substential amount of digging and finally discovered the app "Twillight" works like a charm by enabling backlight control...Just try it out with similar issues and post your review and thank me...Cheers...
This is regarding a LG G2 with G3 cloudy ROM.
Hey guys. So my wife recently got stung by a bee, and subsequently threw her phone up in the air, and it landed nicely onto the driveway lol. Needless to say, the screen shattered. So i ordered a new screen online, and after installing it, it works fine upon power up, but as soon as i sleep the screen and turn it back on, the screen it all white with lines and is not functional. I also noticed that the ear speaker was not working.
I requested a replacement screen since i figured it was a defective screen, although the replacement is also doing the same thing. So i put on the original screen, and i am able to sleep the phone and awaken the phone, without any issues.
I read online somewhere that this could be an issue with the ROM? If that was the case, wouldnt it effect the original screen as well? This is not my video, but the phone does the same exact thing:
Apparently i cannot post any outside links. But basically the guy turns the phone on, everything works fine, as soon as it times out and he wakens the phone, everything is white with lines going up and down.
Any ideas what i can do to fix this? Quite frustrating!
thank you!
anyone?
That's a kernel issue. These phones are made with two different types of panels one is JDI and I don't remember the other. I had the same thing happen once. The newer kernels have an auto detect built in to flash the correct type. You didn't mention which version of Cloudy you're on, so I can't tell you exactly which kernel to flash. In recovery flash the Dorimanx kernel appropriate for your version KK or LP and it will fix the issue.

No, I've never seen that problem. I haven't heard of anyone having that issue either.
JDI display
I also have that problem.
I've tried the Panel Swap zip to change the panel to JDI, but it doesn't Work.
I also tried different kernels. If the screen goes to sleep the white lines reaper.
Please help.
So My S5 worked great for 2 months or so but then the screen started flickering at very low brightness. As time passed the flickers increased and now whenever the brightness goes below half, the screen shows yellow flickers. That's not even the biggest problem, when i lock my phone and then press the lock/home button to turn on the screen, it shows a flash on the screen and goes dark again. This takes around 15-20 tries everytime almost (sometimes even A LOT more) to turn back on.
There was no water or fall damage.
I've tried factory/hard resetting, disabling hardware acceleration, disabling google chrome (worked for some people on the internet) still not solved.
I don't have warranty, and i'm willing to pay for some repairs but can someone help me out here and tell me where exactly is the problem? Cause i really don't want to pay for a new LCD. It's kinda costly. Thank You

I have the exact same problem but only at the bottom of the screen...I am sure is not a software problem because I tried everything (from reinstaling soft with odin from4.4 to 5, with kies, to CM12/13). If you find which is the hardware please let me know.
Thank you. I also don't have warranty and i got this flicker from November.

I also have this problem. I did bring my S5 for repair under warranty (but have knox tripped) and they REFUSED to repair it,because they think the problem is caused by ME. I did go to a lawyer, and I am gonna sue them. Will update you if I have new info. I am sure it is NOT a Software problem caused by the user,I also tried changing OS,reinstalling Stock, nothing solved my problem.
any update dear as i have the same problem but for me it happened when there was low light means in darkness so when i un tick the auto brightness it will be okay no more flickering issue
Same here. Flickers, stays black. Tho I can fiddle around and it will pick up touches, and have gotten it to reboot.
It will work fine charging. Batt icon works. It only seems to be an issue while its running.
Happens on stock and cyanogen 14.
I have noticed it seems to happen more when cold.
Same problem here on cyanogen 13.0, tried factory reset to no avail. I'm about to try flashing another ROM, just need to figure ou what.
Just done wiping and reinstalling new ROM, bumped up to 7.1 and the problem is still the same.
- Screen has difficulty turning and flickers when the brightness setting is low.
I guess it must be a hardware issue.
My fix for the moment is to disable automatic brightness and never set the brightness too low, so as to avoid have trouble turning on the screen.
Same here. It's a typical problem.
Same...

I have a feeling that the problem is caused by overheating when charging. I fell asleep and woke up with the phone underneath me, it was blazing hot. It has been doing what the rest of you describe since then.
I am not 100% sure, but I've heard that it's due to the low voltage (brightness) being applied to the screen which is causing the flickering. Unsure why it's only the bottom half (Also happens on mine).
A work around for this is to install a screen-dimmer such as Darker, set the brightness on your phone to be above the flickering amount, then use Darker (or whatever app you use) to lower the brightness down.
Because Darker (or whatever app you use), is a filter, it won't change the voltage, thus no flickering.
do any of you have the always on feature enabled on the screen?
This problem is soooooooo often. Internet full of it.
Is AMOLED designed only to work for 2 years???
Anyone any information about that?
try downgrade firmware back to Android 4.0
Edit: nevermind, this didn't work
Perhaps AMOLED life time is short.
I will buy a LCD display next.
Same here only below the screen. It happened last month

How can we up to low brightness voltage? Is this possible?
It happens only at low temperatures. When you make your phone warmer, the flickering at low brightness stops.
Has anyone tried to check if some kind of cleaning the flex connector helps? I'm thinking about buying LCD sticker and give it a try.
I have the exact same problem and its related to temperature, I never face this problem in the summer.

Maybe your power button is broken?
I have yotaphone 2 from tinydeal germany. (I think they flash the ROM to change the language.)
The phone worked fine at first but now the e screen on the back is doing strange things, leaving images of previous pages showing through the current page. This means, for example, on the clock face the clock is faint on a grey background and as the fingers move they leave a black after-image. Pages that should be black look speckled grey. Any suggestions for cause and a fix?
Unfortunately this is how (older) EPD screens work. When updated they somtimes leave a ghost image behind. To eliminate this the screen needs to be flashed white/black/white before redrawing and with the low refresh frequency of EPD this results in a very flickering image. So there is nothing wrong with your screen, this is just how EPD screens work. See also here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_paper#Disadvantages
Thanks, but this ghosting or layered imaging is much more severe. I know someone else with the same phone where black is black and whilst there is very slight ghosting of things like clock fingers it is nothing like this current phone. The phone was fine when we got it, and the layered/grey imaging has started without me doing anything. I only mentioned flashing of the ROM because Tinydeal have told me that that is what they do to change the language on these phones.
So from the Wikipedia entry and your comments I now assume that the phone should automatically flash black/white between page changes but it isn't doing it.
The ghost images don't appear if you load something like chess or sudoko onto the rear display but appear again as soon as the regular Yotapanel or Yotacover is used.
I have the same problem, but only when the white theme in the Yotahub is turned off (so the dark theme is active) or when I use the Yota Mirror. The ghosting is terrible. When I use the white theme, it looks like it should look. I am not aware of any changes I made to my phone yesterday, but in the afternoon this problem started.
Does someone know how to check if the screen is flashing/refreshing correctly and if not, how to repair this?
Update: when I put a completely black screen on the back, it is spotty. The black is not black, but dark grey, and there are many lighter spots on the screen.
Update 2: the white theme has this problem too, but less visible. The white starts as real white, but because of ghosting becomes slightly grey. With black it is much more noticeable, because black does start as dark grey.
Well this may only turn out to be a temporary fix but I went through the Yotapanel pages repeatedly and very rapidly using the bottom of the page buttons.
I got all sorts of shades of grey and multiple overlying images but then the phone suddenly showed a clear black and white page with clock.
Ringing the phone from another phone produced a clear missed call message on the back of the phone and then after a minute the clear black and white clock page came back. I am leavng the phone without looking at all the othe Yotapanels or the Yotacover for the moment in the hope that something just got out of phase in the software and the phone might now settle down to correct operation again.
I have the same problem. It has started a few days ago and it gets worse every day.
Unfrtunately the problem has returned on my phone although I was able to get back to a black screen with the clock after three page changes using the bottom left arrow. This time a missed call message came up very clearly on the back of the phone but after the missed call message cleared the whole of the back of the phone was speckled grey with a very faint clock image. One question though: is this just the phones from Tinydeal where they have apparently flashed the ROM, or is it all phones?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lggfc.nookclearscreen
That's the app for Nook ereader to refresh its screen and get rid of ghosting. Works also on Yotaphone.
What always works for me to clear the screen when the ghosting annoys me is to switch to Android on the EPD screen (by holding the circle button and choosing the left option) and switch back right away using the same procedure. This always leaves me with a clean black back.
Thanks Keeper and VirtualL.
Tinydeal asked me to upload a video to demonstrate the fault, and no sooner than they did that the phone started behaving normally again!
So if it goes again the first thing I will try is that page sequence, and if it fails the App.
I have to say that these are really fantastic phones. I think that a lot of original reviewers completely overlooked the basic issue of not being able to see a phone screen in bright sunlight, but that the yotaphone overcomes this problem.
Resolved by switching the back to front screen views a couple of times. Getting the front screen to mirror on the back seems to give that hard black and white interscreen flash that clears previous images.

I don't know if you already use it but this widget makes it very easy to switch between mirror and back. Just one click on the widget.

Last week, I got a chinese version (YD206) through GearBest. I had the same problem what you mentioned. (Black was always Grey and was never black and lot of ghosting). Until yesterday, I used to think that's how the e-Ink display works so I was using White theme all the time.
After seeing your post, I tried using Nook cleaner software and it did not help. Then, I removed the screen protector which the phone came with. For the next 1 hour, I did not see any difference. I left it thinking it could be ROM issue.
But, after few hours, I noticed everything became normal. Now, the e-ink screen looks goergeous in BLACK.

This issue keeps coming back and I am not able to find a guaranteed solution to this.
Like you described, activating and deactivating Yota Mirror in quick succession clears the ghosting and makes the screen BLACK. At other times, it does not work at all.
I even try swapping to different Yota Panels, but it is a hit and miss. Is this issue specific to Chinese version of YD206?
How to solve this issue permanently?
If not possible, is there any known step which I can do to clear the ghosting?

I have the same problem with a GearBest YD206 running Android 4.4.3. Would updating the firmware change anything?
Hey Yotaphone Users!
I finally have a solution for this problem, that I received from the Yota Phone Support:
"If you see that ghosting is amplified, try to do some steps. Try to discharge the phone completely. Then leave it discharged for long periods of time, f.e. overnight. Then charge the phone to 100%."
For me that worked perfectly!
For me the discharge-recharge didn't work at all.
Discharged untill it switched off. Turned it on again untill switched off, untill phone wouldn't start up again. So: battery was flat.
What happened was: EPD turned black. Yohoo! Happy!
But: after one night discharged, i put it on charger again. Screen switched on, and ghosting was immediately back.
Disappointed. Very disappointed.
Anyone has a different solution?

Sad to hear that.
Did you remove the screen protector from the back side as in the post #14 the user said that after removing the epd screen became normal black again?
Has anyone heard and try heating with hairdryer the EPD screen for 2 minutes (not too hot) to eliminate ghosting?
Hello,
I have phone D802 , it didn't fall down or anything but since I turn it on today the screen turns just grey with points (like a tv without signal) or it boot's up normaly (Shoes normal bootanimation of RR without flickering) and than when it boots to system it's total crazy colors and flickering, I can't see anything, when I go to TWRP it flickers too so I think it's hardware problem? I have no more warranty... Anyone can help me please?
Mine got that problem too. I had to put some pretty thick (about 1mm) double-sided tape between both 2 display (I guess) connectors and plastic screwed shield.
It's my third day without flickering screen since the fix.
I hope it'll help
