Phone and Contacts open the same screen - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know how to fix the phone and contacts app? They have separate icons, but they both open to contacts. Thanks.
EDIT: Nevermind, 5.0 introduced a new icon

double contacts ???? mystified...

I am having trouble trying to get rid of double listings in my contacts when writing SMS, when I go to all people on the main screen all my contacts are fine just one of each but when I go to sms and go to add recipient I get 2 of all my contacts, my normal ones with pics then all my sim ones as well , I have gone to menu in all people then view and highlighted contacts but still have double listings when doing sms, I just can't figure it out any advice please, thanks.
anyone ??????
I had a similar problem after a hard reset. I re-synced with MyPhone and ended up with duplicate contacts. I deleted them via the MyPhone webpage and no further problems.
i had the same problem with myphone sync once before. just removed the duplicate from the myphone webpage as well.
Use the attached cab, it is a small program that i downloaded from somewhere and cannot remember where exactly.
It removes any exact duplicates from your contact list.
Very useful program.

Linking Google contacts with Facebook friends

Hey folks,
On the cupcake hero, you could get a nice overview of all the contacts you could link from google contacts and the facebook contacts (it was in one of the screens of the people app)
With the 2.1 update, I can't seem to find such an overview... is it available anywhere? I know you can get a notification per contact that it can be linked up, but other than that...
Thanks!
It linked it for me automatically (probably by email). If you want to link/unlink manualy, you have to open a contact in "people" and there will be "link" simbol in the right top corner. Click on it and link any contacts together, including multiple phone contacts.
That I'd discovered too, but there's no more handy list like in 1.5 :/
Bummer.

syncing gmail groups

I can not figure out how to just sync the 'My Contacts' group instead of ALL the gmail contacts. I have 3000 contacts and I don't want them all. I also can't figure out how to sync groups at all.
Anyone solve this problem yet?
the best I have seen is to check "only show contacts with phone numbers".
that's just not going to get it done....
I can't believe I am the only person who has this problem?
Nope, you're not the only one. I, too, have this issue and would love to get the original contacts app back (the one where I can select which group of contacts should be used from the list of contact groups defined on google)
I hate the new Contacts app..
I don't have a SGS, but if your rooted couldn't you remove the current contact.apk and grab the original one from a stock build an install it via ADB or such?
Just throwing out ideas to help.
You are not alone in missing this! I find this very annoying after creating a trim my contacts list in gmail and syncing that with the g1. Samsung better fix this oversight because I haaate scrolling through my hundreds of contacts!
Did you guys overlook, that you also cannot assign a ringtone to your contacts that were synced from G1 to Gmail to Vibrant? Cannot put your gmail contacts as groups. Also, the checkbock for send directly to voicemail is gone.
for now..
.. I installed aContacts from the market. It isn't great, but it makes life a bit easier.

Direct Dial widget not seeing Google contact

I'm trying to set up a direct dial shortcut, but it's not showing one of my (google) contacts in the list. If I open the Contacts app the contact is there however. I'm running stock ROM and contacts app, but Nova Launcher Prime.
Any ideas what might be causing this?

Unable to edit new contacts but old ones are fine

Using the stock contact app;
Any contact I added a week or so ago I can edit & everything is fine. Any contact I try and add today if I don't enter everything at the initial add I can no longer edit the contact.
If I go into a new contact instead of the pencil icon at the top right I only get the head+ icon which does nothing.
Contacts are not synced to google. Contact sync is disabled, Contacts are local to the device only.
If I use a 3rd party app then I can edit new and existing contacts just fine.
Any ideas?

Click to collapse
Same problem here, have you resolved it?
Yes - I found out what caused it - if you disable the system app 'Google contacts sync' this will cause the default contact app to not recognise where to store a contact - so presumes its not saved and won't let you edit it.
If however you use a 3rd party app to manage contacts (like exDialer) then you can edit contacts quite happily, but if you set the contact group to be 'My Contacts' then the default in-built contact manager will edit the contact as normal.
It's basically google getting upset I won't allow contact sync under any circumstance - rather than allow/work in another mode it just decides you cant edit the contact. - You should also check the contact(s) your trying to edit are actual phone contacts, not Whatsapp or Facebook or something 3rd party (Other people have reported the fact you cant edit those)
If you re-enable the sync app then the default contact editor will work again (for any new contact) for any broken contact update/check the group setting.
I don't need or want my contacts attaching to a google account - why can't the phone just accept that rather than desperately trying to upload everything to the GCloud when it feels like it...
