screen still sluggish/laggy? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I'm thinking about either getting a Samsung Nexus or the Nexus 4. According to this video and one can even see it, the screen is somewhat unresponsive. Does this issue persist with newer Android versions? At the beginning he even says one has to type moderately to not skip letters.
httqs://youtube.com/watch?v=-SCJG9JMnlY&t=11m55s Nexus 4 vs Galaxy Nexus

The nexus 4 is still a good device I use mine as a backup but I have no doubt that I could use it as a main phone, stay far away from the gnex it was a good device in its day its just to slow even for basic tasks I had one it eventually died

The unresponsive screen was fixed in an update I think. I never have to press a letter twice when writing messages, im on kitkat.

[Q] Lag not IO Related

I just purchased an 8 Gig C70 Nexus 7, I have had a few cases of the device really lagging between home screens and touch interaction. A reboot fixes it. My write speeds are around 6 Meg. Has anyone else experienced this? It has happened right out of the box still at 4.1 and also after the 4.1.1 update. I am completely stock not rooted. So far it has only happened 3 times and I am thinking it may be app related I will try to keep a better eye on what I am doing next time it happens. I have over 5 Gig still of free space and have only loaded a hand full of games and apps. When it's working the way it should I really am loving this tablet compared to my larger ASUS TF101. Thanks.

Nexus 4 or ?

first thanks for giving me some of your time to share you experience
second i am getting my 1st android phone soon -isa-
so i suggested nexus 4 as i my android experince i trued alot of phones xperia arc s - SGY - Tablets running ICS - SG Ace + etc
my father suggested note 2 but i guess nexus 4 is more powerful in gaming (hardcore gaming) then i read about alot of CONs like lack of 4g which didn't matter of the non expanable memory which also didn't matter the camera isn't really good i tried to ignore it but the problem of the phone heat is what matters so Nexus 4 or Suggect a phone in the range of price the note 2 and the nexus 4 (the note 2 here costs about 535$ )
Go for it.

If it'll be your first Android phone, I'd recommend the Nexus 4. You'll get the stock Android experience, have loads of customization and modding choices available, and get future Android updates first. Best part (imo) is that you can get the Nexus 4 for a reasonable price, up-front, and be carrier unlocked (usually carriers will either make you pay for the phone + $200 or so, or you'll pay an extra $100 or so over the course of a 2-year agreement plan; this is of course only the case if you can't get the phone straight from the manufacturer).
With any other non-Nexus device, you'll either have:
- OEM Skinned interface (usually lacking customization, and can even be more resource-hungry/battery draining)
- Slower or no updates (it's not unheard of for phones to release and never get updates to newer minor or major Android upgrades, or get them months later)
- Locked down environment (either carrier locked or bootloader locked, not be able to use any app you want (with T-Mobile for example, their branded phones can't use Google Wallet via legit means))
But non-Nexus devices aren't always bad either. OEM accessories are usually more plentiful on non-Nexus devices (take the Nexus 10 for example; we get a cover flap accessory months later after release, and that's it for official accessories; whereas Samsung probably has plenty of accessories for their actual Galaxy Tab lineup).
As for the Nexus 4's camera, I'm very impressed with it. To be fair though, I haven't really owned any "decent" camera prior to the Nexus 4 (had some webcams basically lol). The heat isn't really an issue either afaik (might be more of an issue with a completely stock device, but custom kernels allow you to undervolt and/or underclock).

It all depends on what type of games you are trying to play. If you play games like Modern Combat, Batman, NOVA, and etc. Then more screen size would be ideal, even though the nexus 4 can handle those games with ease, it might just feel hotter because of the glass. Whereas, the Note 2 and 99.9% have either plastic or aluminum backs. A TPU case can help with the heat or any case at that. Just don't try to play the games for 2-3 hours with the GPU overclocked +100Mhz, that will not be wise.

i don't know any thing about overclocking and i just now that n4 won't need overclocking or downclocking (or what ever it's callled ) except in saving battery and if the heat doesn't damage the hard ware i don't care so doesn't it damage the hardware and as u are a nexus 4 user would u call it The Superb Phone even over Samsung G Note 2 ?
Wait until the 15th to make a decision, google will make announcements. Just my 2 cents.
The N4 with it's S4 Pro is indeed more smoother than the Samsung S4 with a S600. Why because the OS is better optimised.
Whatever phone you get is down to you, I've been through phones with Sense and TouchWiz but once you go stock Android it's hard to use a skinned version. Nexus devices will always be up to date software wise compared to Non Nexus devices and they will have much longer support from Google and Devs for future releases.
Your money, your call, whatever phone you get you'll enjoy it.

I had the Note 2 and it suffered tinting issues and had crappy Pentile screen so I returned it. Don't get me wrong it's a lovely phone. Depends what you want with Nexus devices you have the latest stock software some find it boring some love it. With skinned versions you get extra features like airview etc on TouchWiz, however it takes longer for them to release newer versions of Android.
Battery is fine I run custom kernels and lasts me a whole day on WiFi can get over 5 hours screen on time playing some basic games and such.
It's fast and smooth hardly any lag, great development.
Only thing I dislike is the camera other than that I love it.

really thanks so i guess i will buy nexus 4 cause a camera better than my e71 or asha 311 is fare enough for Me
and finally thanks for your time
I live in India as well and I purchased the Nexus 4 about 2 weeks ago - *just* missed the 303K revision and I got the 301K without the little feet added to the back to raise it up ever so slightly (check the S/N i.e. Serial Number). Apart from LTE (barely useful in 3 cities across India) and 32GB storage (depends on yours usage - 16GB with 12.95GB usable is enough for me) there haven't been rumours of other STOP-DON'T-BUY updates to it. If you can wait till next week, by all means, do that, otherwise the Nexus 4 is a great buy for now and a while to come.
On a side note: Personally I'm loving the phone, however 3G signal is a bit poor while roaming and that causes my battery to really drain, so I'm using a toggle to turn it on when I want. Though, I want to find a way to make a gesture do that instead, let's see.

what about your opinion i would really care of it as you are a note 2 and a nexus 4 user and i can't try any one of them cause i buy them online and my father need me to choose so i can get it when i travel to him
I love my Nexus 4 and I don't suffer from any of the problems that some people suffer from. Some people expect the PERFECT phone but It all depends on how anal you are about your stuff. I've played plenty of games and I haven't had any problems.
No problems with my N4 just pure fun Had it since November.
iam just saying that i can wait for another 3 or even 6 months if the New nexus 5 will be launched !
so do u think it 'll be launched before the end of this year
If you wait you'll always be waiting for the next best thing. New phones due out this year, new LG phone, Sony with a big camera, rumoured Motorola X Phone, Nexus 5, iPhone 5s, Galaxy Note 3, probably HTC One+ or HTC 5" screen, the you have the Chinese brands, Oppo, ZTE, Huawei. Probably what I've listed next new big things.
If your happy with your current phone wait until you are ready to buy otherwise if you want something now Nexus 4 at its price is a very good phone simply for stock Android and software updates.
The day you buy a new phone it becomes old and a successor or new beast will always be on its way.
The Note 2 was good but a little too big for my small hands, the camera is better on the Note than Nexus. Nexus wins purely for software updates, excellent development, and it's the smoothest Android phone I've ever had, running custom rom and kernel.

Can't decide between new Nexus 7 and Note 8.0

I've owned a N7 2012 for about a year, and I have a buyer for my old one, so I'm looking at upgrading. I haven't used a stylus device in years, but I used to love them: precision text editing, sketches to supplement an explanation, and unambiguous link clicking in the browser.
I expect longevity from my devices, and my previous experience has been that the charging connector breaks first on every mobile device I've had. This gives the N7 the serious advantage with the Qi inductive charging.
OTOH, the Note's performance is more future-proof: a 96GB Note (thanks SD-card expansion) will stay useful longer with a 32GB N7, and the benchmarks also come out clearly in favour of the Note: (Slashgear Note 6900 http://cdn.slashgear.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/quadrant_gnote8_attwtmk.jpg vs N7 5600 http://cdn.slashgear.com/wp-content...enshot_2013-07-25-13-17-52-google-nexus-7.jpg ).
But the performance doesn't count for all that much, since my main use for my current N7 has been reading: PDFs, e-books and websites. I use it mostly around the house, and my phone when I'm out and about.
Can anyone suggest something I haven't considered that may be relevant? The price isn't going to sway me much one way or the other.
Thanks
I prefer note 8 due to larger size and I won't mind carrying a slightly bigger one. Was coming from 7.7. I would have taken if it's nexus 8.
Happy user of note 8.

I don't know what I can add except my reason for buying a Note 8.0--the pen. I bought my Note for school to replace everything in my bookbag--no more notebooks, no more laptop, no more text books. So far I'm very happy with my decision. I was also considering the new Nexus but because I wanted the ability to take notes, the lack of a wacom pen was off-putting. The Note was well worth the extra money for me.
I'm split between these two devices also. The new Nexus has the 1080p screen and prompt updates in its favor. The Note 8, suprisingly has a very good screen despite being 1280*800, but don't expect to get any updates for this. I mean you can always go AOSP or AOKP but that defeats the purpuse of even buying a Note. So if being stuck at Android 4.1.2 forever doesn't bother you the Note is a good choice.

why should we not expect updates for the note 8.0? I thought they were already working on e 4.2.2 build. in fact a quick search suggests thats its already available
I had the nexus 7.2 for a week and a half, the 16Gb version and it had a very nice screen fast processor but returned it due to frequent reboots, apparently it only happens on the 16Gb version. Got the note 8 instead. Am very satisfied with it.
I'd recommend you get the Nexus 7.2 first use it for a week then return and get the Note 8, that way you can see the strength and weakness of both and then decide which one is more useful to you. I am glad I did that, the Nexus 7.2 was how to say this not to hurt anyones feelings -plain vanilla- which is not bad, but you can't really compare the two because of the S pen feature on the Note 8. The Note 8 screen is not bad at all, but the 7.2 beats it, and I find that I do use the S pen more often than I thought I would. Also I'm a long time Samsung user and I like their products. I gave the Nexus 7.2 a try but am more comfortable with the Note 8, also love the S pen, for that alone it was worth it to me.
So as I mentioned get one use it as is for a week or two then return it and get the other one. Test both, but in my opinion you can't really pin the two tablets against each other. They are both good just depends what you are going to use it for, if you're a big game player get the Nexus, if you going to use the tablet for other things get the Note 8

I've owned more than a few Samsung devices, I currently own a two SGS 3, AT&T and Sprint. Neither are on 4.2.2, which is why i'm on CM10.1.2. I'd be pretty happy with a TouchWiz 4.3, but I know Samsung is pretty lame at updates that's why I made that statement, if the Note does get the 4.2.2 update, that's great, but I don't think they will go past that.
Hopefully Samsung is doing an overhaul on TouchWiz all together, I may stick with Samsung devices, otherwise my next device will be a Nexus. I've given up hope for the skin based phones and updates.
It really comes down to how much you value the s-pen....i thought I'd get much more use out of it (i do a lot of handwritten note taking, but at meetings i typically type in notepad) and never did so I just put my Note8 up for sale because the extra $100 wasn't worth it because it was still faster/easier for me to jot something quick on a post it than to take out the spen, launch the note app, scribbe something, save it....
however when I was in school the ability to take down quick notes and write on-screen on pdfs/ppt was *very critical* and I loved my W7 tablet with ntrig (this is all pre-tablets so it just depends on your use case
With OTG usb, you can still use microsd on the Nexus7, althought it's a bit more work and takes up the charging port..not sure if the new N7 has that yet (you had to be rooted on the old N7 to use it)
screenwise, the new N7 quality is much better, but I find the slightly larger note 8 to actually be easier to read on and use
I'm close to making my final decision because I refuse to keep the Note 8.0 and the N7 (2013) that I currently have.
The N7 is super nice. The display keeps drawing me back over and over. I like the fact that I can watch Netflix on it and not accidentally press the back button like I tend to do on the Note 8.0. I love the crisp text in my ebooks. And who doesn't love stock?
The Note 8.0 is better from a productivity standpoint for me, and it's why it currently leads. Outside of holding it in landscape and pressing buttons accidentally, I actually prefer the feel of the Note 8.0 more than the new N7. The display isn't nearly as bad as some would have you believe either. Sure if you have it side by side the N7, you'll see it, but in my opinion it looks real good.
Also a sidenote for comic book readers. I use Comixology, and I'm not a fan of the panel to panel view unless I'm forced to use it due to something being very small. It's easier for me to read comics on the Note 8.0 compared to the N7. Probably because of the extra inch of real estate.
Probably the reason I still go back and forth is because I know I can expect updates and a vibrant dev community on the N7, but probably not so much with the Note 8.0. Heck, I have the AT&T LTE variant, and I sadly can't even root that yet. Good luck with your decision.
I went ahead and ordered the 32GB Nexus 7.2. I figure I can always sell it for about what I paid for it if I decide not to keep it.
I got the previous Nexus 7 as a gift, but actually ended up selling it (and keeping the more lowly spec'd Tab 2 7" I already had) because the Nexus was just so flaky. Apparently it was a great device prior to 4.1, but I only got onboard after that. Plus the speakers were PATHETIC (unacceptable for a device that screams multimedia consumption.) I'm hoping those are better this go-round as I use mine for backgound music/video quite a bit.
There's pros to being on the bleeding edge of updates I guess. But I almost view it like you're being an unofficial beta tester. Samsung may not always have the latest official Android version on all its flagship devices, but all my experiences with them to-date have been outstanding. There's a reason (beyond just marketing) that they're the most dominant OEM in the Android world.
If the primary purpose is reading as OP has posted, I would suggest note 8 to be better choice.
My primary reason for buying note 8.0 was reading (PDF's as well as comics) and considering that almost 38 GB of my external 64 Gig card is occupied by books i would say i am more than pleased by my choice.
The extra screen size does matter here though both share similar 16:10 aspect ratio , which is quite ok,
another surprise feature, the reading mode that samsung built into this is amazing (though it might appear strange at first) but now I just can't imagine reading without that , it's easier on eyes, less stress and for me makes for much better concentration. add a good reader app (I absolutely love the free perfect viewer app for pdf and comics)
The secondary thing for me was the s-pen. since i have been using wacom tablets on pc since late 90's I found this quite adequate. My N-5100 costed me around $530 USD) which is surely definitely on the costlier side of things however I would still consider it worth that extra dough.
I also primarily use this at home and mine is still unrooted (haven't found a need or reason to root it yet).
Gotta decide what's your most important feature.
For me tablets can have two distinct purposes, media consumption device or productivity device. As a media consumption device there isn't much use to me for a tablet because honestly, most things are just more convenient to do on my phone since I always have it, and it has a data connection.
Now as a productivity device, there are a couple things the note 8 excels at. PDF and textbook portability/editing, handwritten notes, and remote desktop control. The spen takes this device to a higher level of productivity because there is no device with a comparable stylus. But for anything else like word document editing, media production, music/picture editing, tablets in general fall short because laptops/desktops are just better.
So if you want a media consumption device, the new Nexus 7 is probably better or even the iPad for that matter. But for productivity the spen will make up for the other shortcomings like lower screen pixel density, less frequent operating system updates, etc.
MobileTechReview posted her review, comparing the two tablets. Everything she said is exactly the same thought I have between the two tablets. I currently have both. I'm more tempted to return the Nexus, but don't know yet.

She doesn't mention bugs, but the Nexus has its own bugs too... such as apps crashing or becoming unresponsive to touches. I have seen the GPS crash several times using a GPS testing app.
It took me ages to decide between the N7 and note 8, and I decided on the note 8. But now I realise, that as I'm going university next year, I'll probably need a laptop, and I'm confused all over again

Agree with almost everything she said as well. I disagree with her assessment of the speakers and volume though. While this year's Nexus finally has proper speakers they're still not as loud as the Note 8's. The quality is a bit better as far as separation/bass goes, but not as loud.
I'm probably going to stick with the Note 8. It's just hard to go back to 7" display no matter what the resolution. It's great that the text is clear, but it's tiny - and the saturation isn't as good. And I've already experienced the Nexus bugginess (unresponsive to touches) several times as well.

I own the original nexus 7...
I currently own an ipad 4 (so I'm used to looking at retina display), I've had the note 10.1, nexus 10, etc....
Honestly I think 8" is the sweet spot. I want to love thenew nexus 7 so bad but I feel like 7" is just a tad too small. The extra screen area from an 8" tablet seems sooo much larger and more usable when browsing websites. Am I crazy? I feel like I keep reading about screen clarity vs spen vs whatever ... but to me the real battle is do you prefer 7" vs 8" - I'm probably going to get both and then return the one I dont' like. As I said, I'm used to the retina screen as well as the beautiful screen on my htc one; however just playing around with the note in the store, the screen honestly isn't that bad and colors are quite quite good.
That said, the nexus 7 screen is by far superior BUT I still think the larger size provides so much better screen real estate and thus ease of use.
Anyone not get the nexus 7 simply because they don't like a 7" tablet?

[Q] Pls help me decide to buy Note 4

Hi guys,
I've been reading and watching alot of videos on youtube regarding the Note series...
I would like your very honest answer with in regards to previous experiences with Note devices, specifically Note 3, as I need to make a decision to buy the Note 4.
A) Does it start lagging after a while? I've heard many reports that it does. I'm coming from iPhone 4s (which I've been using for 3 years) and get annoyed with any lag, which I've almost never experienced with the 4s.
B) Is it possible to get rid of lag, if indeed the Note 3 does lag after a while?
C) Does the battery start dying after a while as well? I know it can be replaced easily but I would rather not spend money on it if I can help it.
Thanks alot guys. Anything you can offer to help me make the right decision will help. And I apologize if there was a thread like this before...
I have owned all the notes till note 3 (note 4 is not out yet here) and I can tell u I've been quite happy with all 3 and never had any real issues with lag (i think occasionally it does but not that bothersome to me) and the batteries have always been excellent no problem with them (but I did buy a spare one for the note 3)
I still don't know what do to myself. I want it but it's not available in my country and since i am using Tab S 8.4 LTE i am not even sure do i need huge phone like that next to Tab S.
I used Note 3 for almost half year and my experience with it was great. But reading about display problems and that metal frame and how easy it gets damaged and scratched made me think better and i am not sure should i buy it or skip N4 and wait for S6 maybe.
And as i said it's still not available to buy in my country, i can't believe how Samsung messed it up, it's been 2 months since announcement and still nothing, this never happened before with Samsung devices. And new iPhones are coming in 2-3 days. Such a shame.
If it's too expensive when it becomes available i am not getting it, but i would really like to try it even 5 minutes.

Its way too soon to say about all your questions. My note 3 hasnt had any decrease with time, but that doesnt mean the note 4 wont. Battery is also the same as it has always been on my note 3, but again it doesnt mean that is the same for the note 4.
I had the Note 4, now I have the Note 3 (little issue with my note 4, so its at the repair shop to be declared DOA), and I notice a few things:
Note 3 feels a lot slower
Pen on the Note 3 is far less usable in terms of merely navigating the phone, and FAR less useful. On my Note 4 i took the pen out almost all the time, because its just such a sweet feature, even if i wasnt planning on using it for anything real, but just to browse the phone with.
Screen isnt as good
It feels less sweet in hand
So thats just my little input on all of this.

I have a Tab S 8.4 and I still appreciate having a large screen phone too. So buying the Note 4 was easy for me. I have come from owning a Note 3 for the past 12 months too. I thought at first I may be wasting my money and that it wasn't going to be a major upgrade. I was wrong. It feels very much like a totally new phone. The way it feels in your hand is outstanding and the screen is amazing.
I don't really remember lag being an issue on my Note 3 and on the Note 4 it is too early to say but so far so good. I have never had an issue with batteries either. They aren't that expensive to replace anyway.
The Note 4 is the best phone I have ever owned (and see my sig, I have owned a lot!)
I've had my Note4 since Sat the 25th. I haven't experienced any lag at all, just a one second delay on the recent apps capacitive button, but it being a multi function button is normal. The glass is on straight so the "gap" issue is not present. I'm getting 19.5 hours of battery life with 5.0 Hours of screen on time. Very good screen with no color changing effects from any viewing angle..

the last 6 months I was switching frequently between I phone 5s and Samsung s5, till I received my I phone 6 plus last month, which is still with me , ...... and now I am a note 4 user, my input:
I had very good stability with the note , lag is at minimum but not zero
screen is super good
battery life on bar with iPhone 6 plus, probably 1 hour more or less depend on your usage
feeling in hand is great especially compare to iPhone 6 plus ( less slippery, and feels smaller somehow)
camera is very good and actually i prefer it over the Samsung s5 and 6 +
no over heat no crash no freeze which i had about four times on my 6+ and more often on my s5 but never on iphone 5s or note 4
s pen is very very useful and for my surprise i found my self using more than expected
conclusion is note 4 is full of features and the fact is almost a PC replacement ( in term of productivity) doesn't come without a price which is ( very occasion lag)
but again remember no phone is perfect, but the note is so far the best what I have used so far
very happy with my purchase so far
but it being a multi function button is normal

Now youre just rationalizing. Theres no reason the delay should be there. If it was merely that its a multifunction button, why isnt it the same on the backbutton? Why wasnt this the case with the Note 3, who has a multifunctionbutton in its place? Why does the recent apps on the Note 3 pop up instantly?
Nah, this is merely shoddy implementation, which I hope they will fix with a patch soon.
Other than that, its the best phone Ive used for my use, and the functions of the device are stellar. Just a great improvement over my Note 3.

Maybe.. But it's a non issue for me really. I've never been a nit picker, if that's the only issue this phone has... Like I said.. Non issue. Jmho

Eh, its a bit annoying for me, coming from the Note 3 where it pops up fast. And I regularly pop between apps, even with multiwindow and windowed mode options, so Id really appreciate it being sped up a lot. But yes, I dont find it a dealbreaker or anything like that, even with this flaw its still the best phone available for me, without question.

My little input. I haven't read all posts yet so I might be writing something that has been mentioned already.
A)Samsung phones always have lags. If you decide to stay on touchwiz (Samsung launcher) which brings us to question B.
B). You can remove lag for the most part and speed up your note by simply doing a few tweaks that you can find on YouTube. or if you wanna do a little heavier tweaking depending on your carrier you can root(jailbreak) your phone, from there the possibilities are endless especially if you have an unlocked bootloader.
C) Even if your batter dies eventually, for my galaxy S4 I bought two zero lemon batteries and a charger for 10$ on Amazon. One battery lasted me a year and to this day its still good!the fast charger works amazing! And worth buying extra batteries all day! Just my opinion.

What lag have you seen on your Note 4? Lets say we ignore the recent apps thing, it clearly has some kind of bug there, but that has nothing to do with the launcher.

The recent apps lag is clearly a bug as you said. Hopefully they'll fix it in Lollipop. I've also noticed there is some lag when applications are being installed through the Play Store and you attempt to use the phone for other things. Coming from Nexus 5, I can confirm that this used to happen to a much lesser degree on the Nexus 5. Except with the Note 4, these lags and microstutters seems to be exemplified. Other than that, I haven't noticed any lag at all.
Ive seen some stuttering myself in the Chrome Beta browser on certain websites as Im zipping up and down a website, but thats not launcherrelated at all. Other than that, I havent seen any stuttering or lag myself.
If you want random strangers to convince you to buy any phone then this phone is not for you. You should buy it because you like it be a leader not a follower
If we were leaders wed make our own damn phones and wouldn't be the consumers we are. A follower with delusions of grandeur is still a follower.
Nothing wrong with asking for input. After all, we are pack animals. Even leaders take their cues from the pack.
All phones lag at some point or another when they do multitask
I been using note2 and now note 4
Is this an issue absolutely not
Battery life in note was always better than anything else and note 4 is not exemption no only that you can buy a spare battery and be cover for a long time until they star to wear of like all bateries
If you been all this time happy with a phone like 4s i don't know what to say. I would struggle to even the most basic operation like sms with a toy like that. The big screen is like travel in economy and being upgrade to first class again i would don't know if this is the phone for you
I know note is good for me and i would not be happy for a second with a puny phone llke the one you been using
Go to the shop try it and see if you are ready
also a phone is a phone and a tablet is a tablet when im away i carry my phone when im home i use my tab even though the phone is nice size i would use my tab rather than this
I hope it helps
I'm coming from an Iphone4s myself so can't comment on previous Notes sorry but I can say my iphone freezes and lags all the time. Admittedly I'm a heavy user and have been mostly satisfied with the phone (it was even replaced for free under warranty once so kudos to Apple) but to say iphone's don't lag themselves isn't true.
I've used the Note 4 for a few weeks now - on lag issue, experienced some lag after phone being continously on for more than a week (left it on when charging too) but problem was resolved after restarting the phone. Think this is acceptable?
Also on the Note 4, have needed to retrain my usage as you can switch between apps directly without having to go back to desktop to access shortcuts (with side key panel, you can access app drawer directly too)

Yes I find the performance acceptable. TouchWiz may have its bugs but the Note 4 is coming off a launch with many varients.
Sumsungs devs are probably overworked and focused 100% on lollipop due in just a few weeks time.
When lollipop hits and if these bugs are still present then I will be disappointed for sure

[Q] Stylus Lag on Nexus 10

Hi,
I'm trying to use DioNote and similar handwriting apps on my Nexus 10, but am finding that the stylus tracking is so laggy that my writing looks awful. The app works great on my LG G3, however, but that device is a bit too small for most of my note taking.
I've tried several ROMs on the Nexus 10 to eliminate the stylus lag, but so far none have had any impact.
Does anyone know how the lag can be significantly reduced?
Thanks,
Jeff

Does anyone know how the lag can be significantly reduced? I have one of this basic pen. Ones and it registers just like my finger. But honestly if you want hand note taking get yourselfa note 10.1 2014. Theyre on sale right now and no stylus can compare to the s pen right now
Thanks,
Jeff

What stylus are you using?
Sent from my VS980 4G
Unfortunately, I don't believe that the problem is with the stylus. I've tried the Musemee Notier V2, AmPen, ButterFox and others. Regardless of the stylus used, the screen lags by about 0.25 seconds or so, making it difficult to write quickly, especially for characters that require a more than one stroke.
The problem is almost surely the firmware / digitizer on the Nexus 10. I am hopeful that this gets better with 5.0, as I'd rather not purchase a new device.
Thanks,
Jeff
I had the same problem with my nexus 10 on kitkat, today I flashed the factory image of lollipop and the lag is definitely gone at least with InNote

Yep, I flashed 5.0 stock today as well. Although my favorite, DioNote is not yet working with 5.0, the lag is significantly reduced to the point that the Note 10.1 (2014) is no longer on my "must have" list. By the way, 2 things are killer functionalities for DioNote: (1) Sync with Evernote (2) full text search on handwriting. Can't wait for them to fix it to work with 5.0.
