[Q] Really Annoying Sound in Android Browser and Find on Page Function - Galaxy Tab 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I use the find on page function quite often when reading articles on the Internet. For instance, on one search, my search term was found 29 times. Each time in thestock Android browser, I tapped the down arrow to find the next instance of the term, I got a really annoying sound, saying, for instance "3 of 29." Couldn't get rid of this stupid feature by pressing the sound bar on top of my tab. Don't get the sound while in Firefox and using the find function. Only way to get rid of sound is to turn off sounds in accessibility settings, which then means my Youtube sounds are turned off. For some reason the touch function on the down arrow works better in Android browser than Firefox browser otherwise I would just use Firefox.
I am simply amazed that the Tab Browser would have such a goofy function that overrides the sound bar on the outside of the Tab. Am hoping I can turn off the sound without turning off sound I want such as Youtube videos. Any help would be appreciated.

R6-- Thanks for your help. I have an older Galaxy Tab 2 that I will try to root. If I get that right, I will consider rooting the Tab 4.

[App Req] Hardware Zoom In/Out

Hi,
by now we all know that we aint getting any multitouch, but the necessity of multitouch still remains. If you are using default browser/skyfire then you have to find a spot in the website to click (where there are no links), then the Zoom In/Out comes up. If you are using Opera, then if you double tap it zooms out to a default value (nope, you cant change the zoom out level).
Both of the above methods are not that great. I was wondering if it is possible to make an app that would use the volume button to zoom in/out. So when you are in browser or map or pic viewer, you press the volume button, it zooms in/out.
I think this app would be awesome
The only problem is I dont know how to make it
So can any dev work on this PLEASE. I am pretty sure lot of us and also people with other phones could use this app.
Thanks in advance
Bikram
PS: Non devs pls back me up in this (might bring some attn)
I'd be interested in an app like that.
EDIT: Not a dev, but I see a problem with that...wouldn't that mean an entire browser needs to be made? (Unless SkyFire or Opera made an update for their browsers)
EDIT2: Another thought, do any of the Android browsers support add-ons? I'm going to figure this out tomorrow
it could be possible though you need the source code of one of the apps weather it be skyfire or opera.
I think the devs have the source code for the default browser. Right??
Hi,
there are APIs for Creating Browsers (its not very hard actually) but i dont know if the same APIs allow adjusting of zoom level, if so, the second question is if we can get the events of the Volume buttons.
Lets see
I am not sure what you are talking about, but I am sure there are API's for volume. Even if not then we might be able to find it in the decrypted ROM.
What im saying is that i dont know if it is possible to block Volume Adjusting and instead use it for Zooming.
My guess is yes though.

App idea: Volume button used to take pictures (HTC Evo)

i'm not a developer but i had an idea for a tweak/app that would be useful to me and hopefully a lot of other people. I just came home from a vacation and took a ton of pictures with my Evo and grew frustrated by the lack of a dedicated camera button. i was wondering if it would be possible to make one of the volume buttons take the picture. I would want this only when the camera app is open of course. I know the volume buttons can be re-routed because of how they are used to scroll up and down through web pages in the Dolphin HD browser. Can anyone tell me if this would be possible or if its already been done? i've done some research into this and didn't come up with anything. I thought i would ask the great group of developers we have here at PPCG. Thanks everyone!!! (HTC Evo)
+1 Was just looking for something like this.
Searching everywhere for this. Alot of people would appreciate it!
This is a great idea! I'm surprised it hasn't been done on the EVO yet. At least I haven't seen any App/hack that can make the EVO do this. I hope it's possible and I hope someone can make it happen. Fingers crossed.
I like the idea...but have a slightly different motive. I'm on an X which has a dedicated camera button, however, when I'm using it as an audioplayer in my pocket, while it's possible for me to turn the volume up and down with the rocker, I can't actually pause the audio...so I plan to find a way to re-route one of the buttons somehow to be a play/pause button...

PLEASE developers! evo users would love this!
Sounds Good To ME!
This would make things easier. Sometimes you feel you didnt touch the screen right or hard enough, this would take care of that. +1
Count me in... This is the only thing that prevents me from using the evo as a point and shoot
This is already available via the Camera Zoom FX app on the market. Not free, but is there. However I have found that it is buggy as hell.
Bugs I have noticed:
1. Pictures won't save. It's like they are stored in the cache. You take a picture, go to gallery to view it and it won't be there. If you reboot the phone it will be.
2. The "FX" don't always work. There are several effects that come stock with the app. They frequently don't do what they are supposed to or won't load at all. I have found that you can exit the program via the back buttons and then start it again to get the FX to load, but even that has stopped working.
3. It actually asks you to download Task Killer the first time you open the app. Going on about camera apps using memory and all. So in other words it has a memory leak and instead of fixing it they want you to manually kill the task.
It does what some in this thread are asking for. However I wouldn't suggest you buy it.

[Q] Airview on default messaging and music player

Hi folks,
I just registered here but I have been lurking in this forum for a few months now. ( I laughed hard at the terms and conditions video btw)
Anyway, I just got myself a new i9500.
One quick question, I find that the airview works perfectly well on the gallery, calendar, and when viewing videos. However, when I'm trying to hover messages in the default messaging app (i'm using chomp sms by the way) I find that it doesnt work on all conversations. I mean, it would only show previews for some specific conversations. Also in the default music player, when I browse for music in folder view, I find that airview doesnt work on the very top folder. Everything else, I can get a preview on.
I've tried restarting the phone, turning off and on air gesture and everything, but its still the same. To me, it looks like a software issue. Has someone observed the same thing in their phones?
Thanks!
you will only be able to use air view when the message lenth is bigger small messages which is seen completly without hovering wont be using airview feature hope that helps

you said you are on default, but then say you are using chomp? im confused.
so does air view work on chomp sms??
Sorry, I got you confused there. I meant I'm now using chomp sms. Anyway I figured it out now, it will only work when the text message is actually longer than what the screen can display.

Enable built in music channel(ROOT)

if you have root you can enable the music channel by editing the default.xml. Using a file explorer navigate through system/customize/aac to default xml and incase your rom doesn't use default.xml, edit the one with your cid, scroll right to the bottom of the default .xml, in that area you will see a line, support_music_channel">false ...change it to true, save, reboot. In settings there should be an option for music channel, now, I donot know if it works without harmon kardon so some feedback would be good from someone using stock adsp.img with boomsound, I cant see why it wont work. Give a try and post your results. Play a song in any music app (supposedly), if music channel is enabled there will be a notification pop up, open the notification draw and tap music channel, you will have access to visualizations and gracenote and an update function for music lryics, I actually think its awesome and don't know why its been disabled.
Thanks for the tip! Just got this working on mt ATT One M8 running nV Rom. It took me a while to get the default.xml to actually save my edits, but what I ended up doing was rebooting to TWRP recovery, mounting /system and using the console to pull up vi and edit the file. Was a bit of a pain, but it looks awesome!
Works great thanks! It was very easy to do. I just edited the file with x-plore and then I changed the permissions back, rebooted and it worked. Btw it worked with BoomSound!
Cool ...nice to hear it works for boomsound aswell, why HTC disabled it is beyond me, the option itself works fine, its gracenotes database that seems to be a bit dodgy, they don't have enough information for lryics, seems its just the most popular albums/tracks, most of the stuff I listen to cant get the lryics, like metric and feedme, think its mainly charts.
Tty and hearing aid enhancement also works ....just enable in default.XML, there's loads of features turned off, these 2 modes are very much needed, well. I can say for sure hearing aid enhancement would be much needed by ppl.

I have this 'ACC' folder not system/customize/aac... is it the same?
EDIT: NVM got it...
cheers for that, why that isnt there by default is beyond me, awesome. im running stock aswell
So what is music channel and what does it do for me. I enabled it and don't see any difference so far. Thanks though.

Play some music, if its working properly an icon will pop up in notification draw, open the draw click on music channel and see. It suppsed to detect any music player but I expect theres limitations, works on googleplay and stock ...not tried any other, htc's music player as got a cropped down version of the music channel tied only the that app, this one should be global.
Now that I'm back stock (but still S-Off), can i get this to work?
Before stock, i tried Viper Rom, and this Rom has the channel enabled...
This is rad! Such a fail on their part for having this defaulted to off. I tried it with Google play music and spotify and it worked no problem. I used root explorer to change everything needed and took two seconds. Thank you soooo much!!!!

Yes, will work on stock, its part of htc's rom, its installed because there music app uses it, but htc disabled the global use.
Just enabled it for ARHD 10.2. Fantastic! Thank you!
i have a line for "support_music_ringtone", another line in the same area for "support_outdoor_mode"... nothing that says "support_music_channel" though... any ideas?
For people who cannot get the Lyrics to work it is due to Gracenote country restrictions.
If you cannot get lyrics for music , download any VPN app and browse as a US user.
I personally prefer Tunnelbear.
then after you turn it on go to the music channel , click the menu button then update lyrics..wait a couple of seconds and your lyrics will be there.
I only needed to do this once..it is working now even after i turned VPN off.

This feature is already there just no such special dedicate button popup at notification.
During playback of song, scroll to right at main music player (from now playing to visualizer) and you will get the exact same thing.

Htc's music visualizer's not global/system wide, as wrote above, its in the htc music app but htc disabled it for use on other music apps, It also has its own play/stop/skip buttons in full screen plus, I think it enables a few more visuals but not 100% on that as I never looked in the music app, if someone wants to look before they enable it and give feedback ..that would be great.

Oh others music apps. That I didn't use others apps.
But for HTC own apps, it is there.
I'm using it now with Amazon Prime. Is there a way to turn off the lyrics and just have the visualizations?

Disable camera shutter sound

Hi, I have rooted my phone and used a File explorer (Root Explorer) and proceeded to rename all the camera related audio files located at /system/media/audio/ui to .old
After a reboot I tried to see if the sound is gone but it is still there.
Following some old guide I found here I tried to find system/csc/feature.xml but it does not exist at all (nor the file nor the folder CSC)
I know a work around is to use a bixby routine to enable DND as long as the camera is open but considering that I am rooted I wanted to find a solution (not a work around)
I tried using Magisk Modules but they don't work either.
I am using Android 10

Hi!
Ummm there's a setting for shutter sounds right within camera settings. See attached photo. Unless yours is different because Exynos. Mine is US Snapdragon on Android 10.

Hi! thank you for replying this thread. I thought it would be obvious but the option is not there for me (I have Exynos)! Not everybody has the option to do it and that is why I rooted my phone, tried a few methods (described in my post) but none of them work... damn shutter sound is still there
I have not found a solution either, right now just using some bixby action to put the phone in silent mode when the camera app is open

I feel like there should be some ADB command to activate the option in camera settings, but not sure what it would be.

Hi....well, it is not necessary to put the whole device into silent mode because of the camera shutter sound .... Bixby Routine does that part great....

I feel the same! the option it is there (hidden) we just gotta figure out how to make it visible. Was hoping somebody here would have the answer.... I guess the big fishes are busy
You could always just turn the system volume sound to 0
You still have notifications, ringtone, media and bixby sounds.

But nobody knows if the option is hidden or removed by default because of the obvious people trying to take inappropriate or illegal photos without consent. Just like recording phone calls, the option isn't available by system only 3rd party apps. Even though in my State its legal to record without consent any phone call in which i am a party to. Under the surveillance and devices act 1999. Yet Google decided to just kill the option globally.
I'm using an app from GG Play store to mute the camera app. It works just fine
