Exynos Always Listening - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys. I 'm looking to buy the Note 4 and I have some quick questions .
1)I remember when it first came out, that the Snapdragon version had the option in Google Now, for "Always On" listening, even when the screen is off. Is this option still available? Does the Exynos Version of the Note 4 supports this function?
2)Which version is more stable and has the best support here on xda, not so much on the regard of custom roms, but on the regard of mods etc?
Thanks a lot

1. Idk
2. About custom rom snap better
About mod all same

1) It works. Open google settings activate Always On. Now an assistant starts for downloading FPSV background accoustic model. Download it and follow all further steps. To start google now instead of s-voice you could use xposed module HiGoogle.

I don't have the device yet but I'm planning on buying it. Without root, it doesn't open google now out of the box as it used to?

No need to root, there's S for Switch Voice in the playstore. It's working perfectly without root. Using it instead of xposed HiGoogle, too.

Great. Do you have the Exynos version?

[Q] Buy Nexus 10?

I'm interested in purchasing the Nexus 10 32GB tablet for £389 on Google Play Store but have few questions I want to ask before buying as I never owned a tablet before,
1. I heard the Nexus 10 has a locked bootloader, is it easy to unlock it to root and install custom ROM?
2. Is it easy to root the tablet?
3. I want to stay as stock as possible, is there any custom ROM out there that is based on the original 4.4.2 firmware with few performance tweaks and deodexed apps?
4. Does this tablet have alot of wakelocks which stops it from deep sleep which will drain the battery?
5. Any problems with this tablet I should know?

I'm very surprised none has answer this... Here's my answer to the best of my knowledge:
1.- yes it comes with a lock bootloader , it's unlocks super easy I used Wug's root tool:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2015467
2.- Wug's root toolkit does it for you too!
3.- Sure Here's one example of a Odex or deodex Rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2529492
4.- Wakelocks not more than the next tablet or cellphone all have a solution if any exist.. so many tutorials all over XDA how to handle wakelock.
5.- ONLY real problem I see with these tablet is the lack of a SD card slot.. other than that I love the screen, it handles very well just about any game.

I've wakelocks on my Galaxy S4 which I use Greenify to hibernate the apps but it uses XPosed which I've a game which doesn't run if it detects XPosed is installed due to cheating or something like that, but probably will use Titanium Backup to freeze Google Play Store and Service if not needed at that time

I agree but I'll be getting the 32GB version so I hope there's plenty of space for me since the 16GB is out of stock
Also what advantages or features is there between CM (Manta) and stock 4.4.2?

I got 32gb and that cover enough to rarely need more plus with rooting and otg cable you can use USB storage. I use a 500gb NTFS drive works with stickmount and selinux mode changer

Just some heads up this tablet is pretty good with only one account but when you add multiple users it starts to slow down. I have 3 on mine and I have to reboot whenever switching from one to another now or it'll lag because of ram used by other account. If you only use one it'll be great though. It's still great for me either way though I wouldn't mind an upgrade

yea google will no longer stock the nexus 10 i read that a few days back... some think because nexus 10 2 is coming soon.
Yea I got the 32GB as well.. u get like 27GB for storage the rest it's for system and stuff, but yea u have more than enough but it's always nice to have the option..
CM,AOKP,Paranoid,Pac-man, OMNI, they all have special features and are very different from any stock Rom, I would tell you but what fun would that be lol ... get it, root it and flash on and see for yourself.. I'm sure u will find something u will enjoy
BTW Greenify doesn't require Xposed Framework, unless u want to activate a few extra options or if u have the donate version, I have it on my phone and I don't have Xposed.

I was going to wait for the Nexus 10 2nd Gen but since there's no actual release date, it could be ages away and isn't made by Samsung as it wasn't mentioned in CES yesterday

Yeah, I've the donate version which allows me to greenify GCM apps but still get notifications which requires XPosed for the extra features

AppOps (privacy control) on the Note 4

Hey everyone!
Just wondering (for those who have root) if they are able to get AppOps working at all?
I'm talking about this app specifically but if you use another one, I'm interested to know: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=droidmate.appopsinstallerpro
I know it works on some other KitKat devices such as the Nexus 5 but I'm curious if it works on the Note 4.
Thanks a lot.

On my Note 3 KitKat (4.4.2) I still can launch the Stock App Ops without root. I'm not sure how about 4.4.4 on Note 4.
You can give it a try.

Interesting to know.
I don't have the Note 4 yet. I was considering purchasing one but was just doing a little research into different things first. If I could still launch AppOps somehow, it's just one little thing crossed off the list.
Thanks.
Hey, I have a snapdragon Note 4 running 4.4.4, I haven't rooted it yet
But I have tried a few app ops/permission managers
(not the one you were requesting as it requires root) and unfortunately
they crash, I'm guessing root would fix that but I want to make sure the gear vr
works first on the rooted device. It is a great phone but going from
A Sony Z2 it feels like It needs a good bloatware clean, app ops
would help a lot too. This phone ultimately feels like it could fly,
If it wasn't shackled to the ground, for safety of course.

Any Differences Between The Note 4's

Has anyone got the Snapdragon & the Exynos Note 4?
I wondered if there where any main differences?
Does the Exynos have 4g?
Which is better for music playback through earphones
Any other things?
I have the Snap dragon atm & was looking at an Exynos to go with it.
Exynos is 8 core version, and it does have 4g!

I got the N910C (Exynos) specifically because it has Wolfson DAC and the Snapdragon doesn't. Sounds great on my Sennheisers - so much so, I sold my treasured Sony Walkman
So what have you guys got on yours KK Or Lollipop?
Lollipop. Upgraded the day I bought it and never looked back. Did a factory reset before setting it all up, just to be on the safe side. Getting 6+ hours screen on time. Runs very smoothly - just minor lag when pressing the recent apps button, but that's rumored to be fixed in 5.1.1.

Cheers.
Does the Exynos get the updates same time as snapdragon or is it pot luck?
Sorry, not 100% sure of the answer to that, but I would expect there will be some difference as they are different internals/architectures. No idea which would get priority.

Ok Cheers,
I see you are running >>>Currently using: Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (N910C), 5.0.1 BOC3<<<
How is it on Lollipop? Before I rooted my snapdragon N4 it was awful on LP.
As I said above, it's fine. I have had absolutely no problems, and can't think of anything to complain about. Haven't rooted, and haven't found anything I wanted to do that I couldn't. YMMV of course, and a lot can depend on what apps you have installed. I disabled a lot of the bloatware, like Facebook, Flipboard etc. I haven't found the need to use Power Saving mode yet, and run with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on all day.

I guess it's a bit greedy having 2 Note 4's but oh well. be nice to see if the differences in day to day usage.
Which countries stock rom do you use eg: DBT BTU?
Had a look on sammobile & cannot find UK BTU for the exynos.
Cheers
Mine is Hungarian, got it SIM free and unlocked from Handtec - don't think there is UK specific ROM for the N910C. However, mine works fine on EE 4G.

Cool. That's good to know. I have downloaded a Poland Rom, That should be ok, yes?
Ta
Yes, as far as I know - I have read of others using the Poland ROM. But you don't have to download a ROM, you should get the Lollipop update OTA or by plugging into Kies (or Smart Switch or whatever it's called now).
I'm running Lollipop since day one, everything running great, about a week ago I rooted, awesome. And just yesterday I flash the INFINITY ROM, and is faster than ever and battery is running 5 to 6 hours using the cellphone all day long

CyanogenMod Forum → Device Req Samsung Galaxy Tab S2

We know there are work in progress to port CM 12 on T810 and T710 but none for T815 and T715
So those like me with T815 or T715 or ... that are looking for CM for their device can post their request in CyanogenMod Forum request page
http://forum.cyanogenmod.org/topic/116361-samsung-galaxy-tab-s2/
Yes; even without phone fuctions is ok for start. I see note 4 exynos got decent cm13 now; I hope no impossible to give it for tab s2 lte. Would be great
Hey, I'm new to this, but I want to give it a shot to try a port for the T715.
I think it should be no problem to make a build without modem support.
So my plan would be to use the source of the T710, if @CTXz allows me to use his sources.
Next I want to try to integrate the modem/ RIL sources, but don't expect too much! I'm completely new to android development and this will be my first project doing myself.
Just did some compilings and ports, but never to new unsupported devices. Maybe with some help it will be possible for me.

It seems the main issue is battery and camera (quality).
i think i messed my t817v. i rooted using odin, and cannot figure out what to do next. it tries to install but gives error message, also my tab wont charge, and when hooked into odin it keeps "adding then removed" over and over again... now i have a tablet that does not work.
any help on this would be awesome.

I would love that!
I also posted a device request at the CyanogenMod Forum.
What you always lose with CM is Bluetooth aptX support for higher quality Bluetooth audio, since they have no licence. And since now there is official MM for the S2 and it - with enough free storage and 3 GM of RAM and root available - really doesn't profit any more from a "slim" ROM than earlier devices did, can anybody point me to a real advantage of CM?
For me CM was never about storage, but about control. As far as possible (for I am no programmer) I want to decide about the rights apps have and don't. It starts with being able to delete them and goes on with being able to restrict their access rights. As far as I remember such privacy guard things are much more easier to accomplish with CM.

My TAB s2 is my first Samsung device.... ( other android devices being nexus 7, xperia z2 / z3, moto g 4G ) ...... I love the tablet but I must say the draw of a supported CM ROM would be the look / feel of stock android and the way the system behaves. Whilst with a rooted device you can remove bloatware, the system itself does not change. All of my other devices have been stock or only lightly skinned....and basically stock once you swap out the launcher.... so I have come to like that. I do find touchwiz to be a little in my face and I do notice the system intrusions a little...... a personal thing of course and I am not complaining as I made the decision to buy it knowing full well what Touchwiz was... but the hardware in the tablet and the price was the draw-card (got the WiFi version here in Aus the first month on sale for $540 ... in comparison, the Nexus 9 was circa $700 and the Ipad Air 2 64gb was $730). My nexus 7 2013 runs MM with less and smoother than the TAB s2 runs LP. I could only imagine what it could do with an ASOP ROM once the bugs were fixed.
Could it be due to a defect usb-port?

Do u know the difference between WIndows Phone/iPhone and Android, that's the kind of comparison u can use between Stock and CM.
Stock is the cute "little" thing with mostly everything that u may need ready to go.
CM is the smaller in size, much faster and with options to do almost anything u could think in a device.

Go ahead and read the forum of Exynos. Try to understand what you want to do before you proceed, take risks and learn.
Hundreds of ppl here have done the same, it's no shame to it.
It's the best way to get your answers right.
Have a nice year, you'll need it.
PS: yes, it takes time, not everything in life is at the touch of a button
Best ROM is always stock ROM.
100 percent stable and everything works.
Use MagiSK if you want easy root / xposed.
Currently Refined Nougat, made under the XDA username Ananjaser1211
Its features:
—A fully ported Nougat ROM (7.0) with Samsung Experience v8.1
—+1 to +3 hours of SOT (Screen On Time) with edited kernel settings
—Everything that every Samsung phone offers (Edge Screen, Samsung Themes, etc.)
—Great Performance
—Root with either SuperSU or Magisk (I'm biased with the latter)
—Support for extended batteries
Some of Its Bugs and Fixes:
•Samsung Camera can't record videos—use other camera apps like Footej or Google Camera from APKMirror (the latest arm7 version only)
•Echo during calls—there's a fix for that on the first page, use that and use your earphones 'cause the fix will disable Loud Speaker mode
•No Blue Light Filter and AOD—use this at your own risk; for Blue Light Filter, use 3rd party apps like Twilight
•No fingerprint unlock—no hope on fixing that as its development stopped last month
•Broken RIL at N10U—no hope on fixing that
Been using this since August, and I'm not going back to Marshmallow ever again, because this gave life to my Note 4 from its rotten update. And despite of its bugs, they're so few that I can say that it is a stable ROM for the Note 4. Try it, and you won't regret it.

It was. But then Anan changed his mind in the last minute, so, alas, he abandoned it and has never released it sadly. (Check the Refined Nougat Telegram group, and scroll your way up for verification.)
Update: Upon further checking, it's on the way. He just needs to fix audio, video recording, NFC, and RIL, then it should be good to go.
